“Tonight’s guests have just taken their seats in our studio here at Sukira. I think the whole atmosphere has become both happier and brighter by their presence. And I think I know why: Our guests had their comeback stage today on Music Bank, and on the same stage, they won first price for song of the week. I guess all our listeners know who our guests are, right? Please welcome, the return of the fighters; currently the leader in girl power who have come back with a stronger and y image; no girl-group is tougher than these ladies; please welcome, 5 Pieces!”

“Pieces of one,” Emelia starts off and the girls says out in chorus at KBS radio program; “hello everyone, we are 5 Pieces!”

They cheer and applauses, everyone being in a great mood. The DJ’s are Super Junior’s Sungmin and Ryeowook. “First of all, congratulations on your win,” Sungmin tells the girls and starts to clap his hands, followed by Ryeowook. After letting the girls do individual greetings they continuing to talk.

“How did it feel to take on the stage again with five members?” Ryeowook asks them; making Carolina laugh by the way he says ‘take on’ excitedly. “How long has it been since your last comeback?”

“It’s been … fourteen months since we released our second album last year, and it has been nine months since we came out with [Switch],” Maria is kindly answering, but she gets excited by the memory; “it is weird how we feel that we somehow have been active the whole year, but at the same time we are feeling energized to the top because this is our official comeback of the years with all five members. We have been pumped up the whole day about the comeback.”

“It’s been fourteen months since you came out with [I Love You]?” Sungmin can’t seem to believe it, and the girls can’t seem to believe it either. “So are you all happy and satisfied with your comeback performance today? It is the first comeback stage in quite some time.”

“I do think we could’ve done better, we always think that, but our fans were really on fire during our performance so I think we are still very satisfied with it,” Carolina is answering and she is glancing at her members when talking to see if they agree or not. Hannah is nodding, listening to them all coming in with answers.

“Puzzle seems to have looked forward to our comeback just as we have,” Julia adds happily.

“For your new album…” Ryeowook starts and glances at his papers, “Could you explain the concept and introduce the album for our listeners?”

“The album [Black & White] is 5 Pieces’ third album,” Carolina starts to answer, “it consists of twelve amazing songs that we think will differently reach the heart of our fans and those listening. The album is filled with confidence, consoling and love, so no matter what kind of song you are looking for, I think you can find it in this album. It’s really good. We are going for a charismatic concept, with a little iness too, which I think we are pulling off pretty well.”

“We pull off the charismatic concept pretty well, the y thing only works for me and Hannah,” Maria corrects and she is fast to tell the other girls to not say against as they know it is right when the protest starts to get heard. Sungmin and Ryeowook laughs, and when it has calmed down you can hear Sungmin say it feels good to have them there.

“Who is y?” Ryeowook seems to not have caught that.

“Hannah and I,” Maria answers but Emelia is shaking her head – since it is a radio, Ryeowook tells for the listeners that Emelia doesn’t seem to agree.

“Hannah is mostly known as the y member even if she is the youngest,” Emelia starts to explain, “but Maria is just weird.”

“Ya, you are weirder,” Maria butts in.

“5 Pieces have never tried a y concept before, so along with this fighter concept we have for the album, we added a bit of iness to try it on,” Emelia continues to explain. “And though we try to be y, only Hannah manages to pull it of well for some reason. But she doesn’t even try, she just is. So the rest of us just need to be charismatic.”

“What…?” Hannah wonders. She knows her members always say she is the y member, but why are they talking about that now? While they are trying to clear things up – listeners will probably just hear their voices and make out a few words in the mess – Hannah starts to laugh. It has been such a long time since 5 Pieces were on radio together, beside from the goodbye special on Carolina’s radio back in July.

“So to sum up the concept, 5 Pieces is trying to pull off being tough fighters with a slight iness?” Sungmin ends up saying when he and Ryeowook have managed to calm down the guests.

“Yes.” – “Kind of.” The girls answers differently again, and instead of letting them start talking about it over again the DJs are fast to ask about the title song for this comeback.

Maria starts off; “For this album we actually have two songs that we are promoting at the same time, which is a new challenge for us. The first song is named [Black and White], which was written and produced by Melissa Allen. It is a pop dance track with a lot of fun technique and sound, and if you look at the choreography it would be fun to follow along to it. The other song is actually a genre we haven’t really tried before but are excited to perform as it has a lot of deep emotions and it has a story in it. That song is named [-erase you-], written and produced by Jo Insuk, and is an upbeat R&B dance song, so please check out both the songs.”

“Two songs,” Sungmin sounds impressed. “And who did you say worked with you for [Black & White]?”

“Melissa Allen. She is really great and amazing and it was so fun working with her and her team,” Maria is fast to answer. “She actually says she is a fan of 5 Pieces, so whenever she gets the chance she will give us a call or even come to Korea.”

“I know Siwon has talked to her,” Ryeowook mentions. “And he says that Melissa Allen is a big fan of 5 Pieces.”

“She is!” the girls laughs.

“Whenever we meet she will tell us how great we are and when she came by a while ago to listen to the songs we have recorded, she kept saying that she wants to work more together in the future,” Carolina is excitedly revealing. “So we are looking forward to work more in the future.”

“So do you all think [Black & White] matches 5 Pieces’ image?” Ryeowook wonders, resting his elbow on the table and he looks at the girls on both of his side. “5 Pieces do have a tough image, but, as you all said before, this song is a little ier than what you have tried before, do you still think it matches 5 Pieces? The song and choreography and concept, all of it?”

Hannah looks at Maria who looks around at the members. They all seem to agree on the same thing. “I think we all agree that … um, that though it is different from the concept we are used too, I think this song really speaks right for us,” Maria answers.

“Because we are all twenty now,” Carolina cheerfully fills in and they laugh.

“You are all twenty years old and should add the iness in your image?” Ryeowook asks and Carolina says it is right. “Before we continue to talk to 5 Pieces, we will listen to their title track: here is 5 Pieces’ [Black & White] everyone.”

While listening to the song, they chat a little and dance along to the song, and when starting the chat again they move on another topic.

“5 Pieces is back with their third album [Black & White] after being away for nine month. For most time of this year, you have had solo activities. Was it weird having so many different activities away from each toher?” Sungmin wonders.

“The weirdest thing must’ve been that Emelia was in Japan a lot,” Julia calmly says, “she had a drama and released her own single there, so it got very empty for the rest of us.”

“How do you think it was for me then?” Emelia chuckles when hearing Julia mention they were lonely.

“So how was it for Emelia in Japan? Did you miss the members, did you feel lonely… how was it being in Japan without your members?”

“At first I enjoyed the time in Japan, having my own schedule and meeting new people and getting to perform on my own, but after a while it got a little lonely as I couldn’t talk to anyone the way I talk to the ladies. But also when I came back to Korea between my schedules in Japan, the other members were so busy that we barely got to see each other anyway. By the time I was filming for the drama, I kept getting text messages from the ladies every single day, so I guessed their schedules had calmed down by then and they realised I wasn’t in Korea,” Emelia answers in a very simple voice, but Hannah knows she expects a good response from her way to joke about the girls not noticing she wasn’t around.

“For Hannah who is the member who has had solo activities before, did the two of you communicate more than the others? Like did you ask for advice or something?” Sungmin wonders, pointing from Emelia to Hannah.

“She only called me when she was starting her drama,” Hannah admits and Maria gives out a sudden laugh, talking for herself when mentioning Hannah hasn’t spoken since they did their introductions. Everyone laughs at that comment and Hannah smiles, waiting for them to ask her to continue. “Emelia called me when she was confirmed for the Japanese drama, but it wasn’t to ask for advice, it was to brag.”

“Hannah is a fan of Kamenashi Kazuya who acted in the drama with Emelia,” Maria is fast to add, “so Emelia has spent the whole summer bragging about it, showing off pictures and tell Hannah all kind of things to make her jealous.”

“Ah, really?!” the DJs laughs.

“I asked for advice too,” Emelia calmly says, “because I haven’t taken many acting classes, and Hannah had already done a drama in both Korea and Japan, she was the member I turned to whenever there was something I couldn’t ask the staff in Japan.”

“What kind of advice did she give you that you find helpful?”

“Whenever I asked for help she would just tell me to not ask her,” Emelia complains, “she told me she also needs help when acting, so I should ask someone who can give advices.”

“But Hannah is a really good actress?” Sungmin looks confused. “Your crying scenes keep popping up as hot topic everywhere!”

“I tell her that too!” Maria joins in the complaining.

“But Emelia never once had a crying scene,” Hannah tries to defend herself. “Her role in the drama was an emotionless bike rider.”

They laugh at her defending herself, simply her words means that she can cry but not be emotionless. So what Emelia asked advice for was something Hannah didn’t know. Sungmin continues; “Hannah and Emelia had some acting in your recent music video too, right? How was that?”

“It was really fun,” Emelia shines up. “I got to do fighting scenes and Hannah had to sit and cry most of the time. I learnt a lot doing those scenes.” They laugh at how she sums up the video by saying she fought and Hannah cried.

“The music video for [-erase you-] is really a hot topic. It is a great video actually,” Ryeowook mentions.

“And EXO-K’s Chanyeol was the stalker in it,” Maria quickly adds before they have to move on.

“What song are you going to sing for us?” Ryeowook wonders. 5 Pieces have gotten up on their feet and are standing up; three on one side and two on the other, preparing to sing a live song. Hannah keeps her microphone on the stand, standing next to Emelia while the other three are standing on the other side of the tables.

“We are going to sing a song from our album called [Diamond]. It is a fun song, so please enjoy it,” Carolina answers. A few seconds later, after that Sungmin has repeated in a smooth voice what song they will perform, the music starts. Carolina starts to sing right away:

5 Pieces is clearly seen having fun in the song, almost unable to keep still and even the staff and DJs are smiling and moving along. The radio has a live TV on the website, so cameras filming had been charmed by the girls who are well aware of the cameras and they know how to act in front of it when singing. When the song ends it is a commercial, so the girls have time to calm down when taking their seats before the show starts again.

“It’s the kind of song you just can’t be still when hearing,” Sungmin mentions about the song. “Our listeners seem to think the same. Kim Hyerim has sent in a message that says ‘5 Pieces is filled with energy, I keep jumping and running around listening to your live!’ and Moon Minkyung writes ‘definitely the power of pieces, flawless live and of course it is the best song! Congratulations on your win, you deserve it!’”

They move on to a segment after reading some of the comments where they will answer some random questions sent in by listeners. The first question is asked to Maria; which member in 5 Pieces is first in terms of looks?

“Me,” she answers without a second thought. “Who would ask that kind of question? Of course I am.”

“Hannah is nodding,” Carolina laughs, pointing over at Hannah who sinks down in her seat. She thinks she has a habit of nodding when listening to others talking.

“Do the other members agree?”

“Every member has her own charm,” Carolina sweetly answers but the others just tell her it is cheesy.

“For this comeback, I look the best,” Emelia says and she hits Hannah on the arm when the girl giggles.

“Then who is the most conscious of her look? Who hugs the mirror?” Ryeowook asks as the girls can’t seem to agree on who looks the best.

“Maria loves the mirror the most, but that is just to love herself more, not to care how she looks,” Emelia answers and smirks when Maria gives her a glare. But Maria still agrees, saying it is true.

“Maria is still the most,” Hannah says half a meaning, “she hates when a lock of her hair isn’t right.”

“Ah, then maybe she is…” Emelia concludes, uncertain.

“Okay! Moving on with the next question; 5 Pieces’ got a kitten from their fans at their 3-year-anniversary, how is the kitten doing?”

“He is doing well~” the girls sings brightly.

“I have seen him,” Ryeowook says randomly, smiling when realising how weird it sounded. “Is he doing well with your activities?”

“He sleeps most of the time,” Maria says, “I think he is a lot like us. He likes to sleep and eat and at times gets really playful.”

“Is there someone he likes or listen to more than the others?” Sungmin wonders.

“He really likes Hannah, always following her around at the apartment, but he listen the most to Maria,” Julia reveals. “Hannah locks him out of her room, so I think he doesn’t listen to her because of that.”

“That’s not true,” Hannah pouts.

“Hannah is afraid of cats, so whenever she is going to sleep she closes the door so he can’t come in,” Emelia tells while Hannah gives out a whining sound, saying she thinks she is doing well. “Ah, don’t misunderstand Puzzle; Hannah and Ace are really close, it is just that she is strange.”

“He is doing very well, Puzzle, we are giving him a lot of love,” Carolina informs the fans listening.

“Next question… is familiar to the one before; which member is the most interested in make-up?”

It gets quiet. The girls are talking in low voices, not really knowing who it is, “You guys aren’t very feminine after all …” mention Sungmin and the girls’ laughs before they protest a little by his statement. They don’t hug the mirror and they don’t care about make-up, a weird girl-group.

“The only member who knew anything about make-up before coming to Korea is Hannah; she wore make-up before, while the rest of us only started to wear for the schedule. Now I think…” Maria tries to fix up the misunderstanding. “Julia. Maybe.”

“What about me then?” Emelia asks, pointing at her make-up where her eyes are at focus.

“Emelia is addictive to eyeliner, while Julia is recently interested in learning more about make-up,” Maria finishes up, making them laugh at her “addictive” comment.

“Then none of you can do your own make-up?”

“Oppa,” Maria raises her eyebrows at Sungmin, having her diva tone; “it’s been four years. Of course we know how to do our own make-up.”

“The last question is about 5 Pieces’ morning habits?” Ryeowook looks a little confused when looking at the question. “There are actually a lot of people asking who wakes up first, who wakes up last and if there are some troubles in the morning?”

“Maria or Carolina are always the latest to wake up,” Hannah and Julia both confesses, laughing when realising they answer at the same time. “Emelia is also always up the first, and when asking when she woke up she will say she has been awake for a long time. No matter what time it is, she always answer that.”

“Why do you do that?” Ryeowook asks and they laugh because he seems really interested in the subject.

“I don’t keep the time when I wake up. If I wake up early or late, I know I still won’t be the last member being ready, so I don’t look at the clock when I wake up, so it is easier to say I have been awake for a while,” Emelia easy answers.

“Then is there a member who you just don’t want to wake up in the morning?”

“I would choose Maria. She kicks and hits you when you try to wake her up,” Julia answers, “but for some reason she never does that to Hannah.”

“Hannah knows me well,” Maria straightens her back to talk about it, “she knows how to wake me up well.”

“I wouldn’t want to wake Hannah up in the morning…” Carolina quietly says.

“Have you ever woken me up before?” Hannah laughs lightly and the others agree, laughing too. Carolina is the latest to get up, so she has probably never had to bother waking anyone up.

“No, but in the mornings, Hannah doesn’t talk,” Carolina says, shaking her hand and looking at the DJs as if she is telling something scary. “She walks around like a zombie, and even when being in the van she won’t say anything.”

“And then, Carolina isn’t awake right when Hannah leaves her room,” Julia laughs, “when Hannah and I shared room before, every single morning she would get out of bed and go to the bathroom without a word. When I ask her what time it is, she just mumbles and leaves. I don’t think her brain is working when she has woken up, it’s just her body moving.”

Hannah laughs in the background, hiding behind her hands. Julia continues; “she even plans before going to bed by checking the next day’s schedule, when she should wake up, how many hours she will get to sleep and she prepares for the morning too. Then she has like two hours in the morning to get ready before we will leave, and during all that time she is a zombie!”

“No, the thing is, I like to plan things,” Hannah starts to explain and she hushes at the others to be quiet as they are all reminded of their morning, “and it is really hard for me to clearly wake up in the morning. I need a lot of time to wake up, so I wake up early to get to my senses before our schedule starts, but the weird thing is that Emelia is always up before me.”

“Are you competing of who wakes up the earliest?” Sungmin can’t help but to ask, receiving laughter.

“Sleep is precious,” Emelia simply answers on that question.
