“Hi dad.” Ariel sat down in front of the grave and laid a bouquet of white lilies underneath his name. “If you were still here, we would probably be arguing about who knows what.” Ariel chuckled to herself, knowing it would happen. She took a glance at the morning sky and inhaled deeply. “I miss you, a lot.”
Ariel laid her hands on her lap as she stared at the grave in front her. “I know we didn’t have the best father daughter relationship…” She bit her lip to think of the words to say.
“We never got the chance to repair what was left of our relationship. I hated you. You hated me. Or at least that’s what it seemed like by the way we spoke to each other.” She half heartedly chuckled at her own sentence. “Someone told me, ‘it’s better to let go with a smile than to hold on to the anger.’ And I’m willing to let go of everything. You’re always going to be my dad. I’m sorry for everything. You’re probably just as sorry as I am. I forgive you.”
Ariel paused as she thought about someone. “I’m dating Park Chanyeol.” A smile grew on Ariel’s face just pronouncing his name. “I love him a lot. I haven’t seen him in awhile because of our schedules but we’re happy together. He calls me after his schedule ends. Sometimes it’s way past midnight when I’m sleeping but I don’t care, I answer his call even if it’s four in the morning.”
A breeze flew by, causing Ariel’s hair to sway with the wind.
“I’m guessing you approve of him?”
Another breeze hit Ariel, giving her the goosebumps.
“I take that as a yes.” Ariel chuckled at the signs her father sent her. She dug through her bag and took a few albums to sit by his stone. “Sojin and I won a few music shows. I just released another single. It’s called Wifey.” She set both mini albums down next to the bouquet she brought. Ariel checked the time on her wristwatch that Chanyeol gave her when he was in China a few days ago. “I have to visit one more person. I’ll visit you again dad.” She stood up on her feet and waved goodbye to the grave. “I love you to the moon and back.”
Holding on to the other bouquet in her hands, Ariel proceeded to visit another deceased family member. Ariel sighed when she found the gravestone, she knelt down and placed the same bouquet underneath her mother’s name. “Hi mom.”
“I found the answer to the question you asked in my dream.”
“What makes my heart content?” Ariel repeated, smiling as she thought back to the question. “A lot of things what make me happy. Right now, one person makes me happy and I’m content with that.”
Ariel sighed as she glanced around the graveyard. There were a few people here to visit deceased family just like her.
“His name is Park Chanyeol. You never got the chance to meet him. You would’ve loved him anyway. We separated for a long time but we’re back together. He makes me happy. I make him happy.” Ariel checked her watch again. “I wish I had more time to talk but I have to do something. Something special. It’s a surprise.” Ariel stood up and brushed the grass on her legs. “I love you to the moon and back.”
“Does my makeup look okay?”
“Yes Ariel.”
“How about my hair?”
