Chapter 60 - A Metaphoric Confession

"I knew it. She's as pretty as you."

Luna smiles as she stares at her twin sister who is lying and sleeping on the hospital bed. They arrived in the hospital at six in the evening, and they have been there for thirty minutes already.Lucy was awake thirty minutes ago when they arrived, and of course, she was surprised and happy to see Sungmin. Luna introduced Sungmin as her boyfriend, and Lucy was very happy to know about their relationship. Sungmin said a lot of things to Lucy, things like, 'you need to get well soon' and 'you need to take a rest.' They were a lot appreciated, and Sungmin felt happy that he was able to make her smile. Lucy couldn't ask further however, about how they met and how they started dating because she was too tired. Luna told her to sleep and take a rest, and her sister complied.

Luna fixes her blanket and her pillow so that Lucy can be more comfortable.

"Lucy is prettier than I am," Luna says. "I wish I could see her lively face more often. Thanks, oppa."

"Don't mention it," Sungmin waves his hand. "Anyway," he sits on the couch near the private room's wall. "I am very sorry about what happened earlier."

"Mr. Cho... is he originally like that?" Luna asks. "I meant no offense, oppa."

Sungmin looks away. "He was, but rather than being originally like that, I would prefer to say he has changed back to once he was for... I don't know. I don't actually know why."

"Are you enemies? Or did you fight prior to our meeting?" Luna asks further as she approaches Sungmin and sits on the couch.

Sungmin smiles awkwardly at Luna. "I really don't understand why he is like that. When we're together, we're okay. But when we're with other people, he... he suddenly changes. I didn't even know what made him that upset."

Luna looks away. "B-By any chance, does Kyuhyun like someone already?"

Sungmin freezes at that question. Kyuhyun said that he was, but could not freely do so because of his brother. "He said he was," he replies.

Luna clasps her hands and puts them on her lap as she looks at them. "I see. Maybe... just maybe, he likes someone who likes you, that is why whenever you're with that someone, he becomes like that?"

Sungmin turns to Luna. She might be right. But who can possibly be that person? The only person who is common to both of them is...

...Donghae.

"O-Oh, maybe," Sungmin feels a little awkward and hurt with that idea. Donghae likes him, but Kyuhyun likes Donghae, and maybe that is why he can't confess because he's his bestfriend? And that is, probably, why Kyuhyun can't ask his help to find his brother. He snaps his fingers in that realization. "Maybe you're right! Do you think I can confront him with that?"

"H-huh? B-but..."

"Don't worry, Luna. I won't tell it's you who helped me to realize that," Sungmin grins and stands. "Oh well, see you tomorrow. Goodnight!"

Sungmin leaves. Luna sighs.

"I want to know the truth. Do you like Donghae?"

Sungmin paces in front of Kyuhyun's house. He keeps on practicing that question before finally knocking on Kyuhyun's gate.

"Aish! Why do I even want to know!? Don't be too curious or you'll get hurt!"

He stops and looks at the gate. Yes, he might get hurt to know if Kyuhyun finally admits that he likes Donghae, but somehow, he thinks he needs closure from Kyuhyun himself. If he finally knows, maybe, he can stop Ryeowook's feelings before they become deeper, and of course, his feelings too.

He blows some air out and finally gathers all his courage to knock. "This is it."

He knocks on the gate. No one is answering though. However, he realizes that the gate is open, so he slowly enters.

"Kyuhyun?" He calls, walking towards the door which is also open. "This guy is so careless, leaving everything open." He enters the house and opens the lights. Seeing that Kyuhyun isn't around, he turns back. "I think I can do it later-"

He steps on something, then he sees some photos on the floor. The photos look like they were thrown in one single drop, because the photos are not scattered. He blinks as he tries to pick them up and he looks at them.

"Huh? A plant-"

He remembers the marigold plant that he gave to him. And the photos that he is holding seem to be the photos of the plant. He looks at the back of the photos and sees some caption.

One day old. Do not water too much!

He looks at another photo.

Two days old. It needs direct sunlight.

The photos all have captions. The captions look like they are instructions of proper care of the plant.

Three days old. The sprout starts to show up.

"What are you doing here?"

Sungmin drops the photos and sees Kyuhyun. Kyuhyun notices the photos and gets them. "I-I... I wanted to ask you about something, and by chance I saw those photos-"

"Leave," Kyuhyun says strongly as he looks away. "Leave now." Sungmin just stares at Kyuhyun who turns to him and yells, "I said leave me now!"

Sungmin gets startled so he runs away. He isn't able to say anything, or confront him, because Kyuhyun's eyes look so scary.

When he reaches his house, he runs to his room and goes directly to the marigold. He feels guilty when he sees those photos. The marigold has grown already, but there are some leaves that turn brown. He almost forgets to water the plant, that is why some of the leaves dry up.

He remembers that Kyuhyun sent him some photos that he didn't even bother to look at. He takes his phone from his pocket and browses its gallery. The photos are the same photos that he saw at Kyuhyun's house.

But why would Kyuhyun keep those photos? Why did Kyuhyun give the plant to him?

"Take care of my heart, Sungmin."

Why didn't he take care of it properly?

He covers his mouth and unknowingly dials Kyuhyun's number. He panics. He panics for the first time, because he is not able to fulfill a promise. Kyuhyun has really cared for him, enough to buy that plant and even to give him proper instructions to take care of the plant.

"K-Kyuhyun... the plant... I'm sorry!" He feels so weak for no definite reason. "S-Sorry..." he murmurs.

After some time, someone opens his room's door. It is Kyuhyun. He goes directly to the plant, and Sungmin approaches Kyuhyun who gets scissors and cuts the drying part of the leaves. Sungmin feels his eyes becoming watery as he observes Kyuhyun being so focused in cutting some leaves.

When Kyuhyun is finished, Sungmin starts to talk, "I-I'm sorry, I didn't know what to do-"

"I will take the plant back," Kyuhyun declares. Sungmin gasps as Kyuhyun carefully takes the pot and prepares to leave. "I told you to take care of it but you didn't." Kyuhyun walks passing by him.

When he finally snaps back to reality, he unknowingly pulls Kyuhyun's shirt. Kyuhyun turns to him and he is surprised to see Sungmin crying. "P-Please... don't take it back."

There is silence between them, and Sungmin is the one who cuts it.

"It's my fault that I wasn't able to take care of it properly, and when I saw the drying leaves, I panicked. I... I didn't know what to do. I know I wasn't able to do as I promised but please give me a chance to take care of it!" Sungmin begs and bows his head. Kyuhyun turns to him and pushes the plant back to Sungmin. Sungmin lifts his chin only to see Kyuhyun staring at him. He gulps as Kyuhyun hugs him, with the plant in between them.

When Kyuhyun pulls himself from the hug, he says, "Do you know why I gave the plant to you? Not only because I wanted to help you in your project, but because I wanted you to take care of it, because you're the only person I knew who could take care of it well. I thought it was important to you, but I got upset when you told Hyukjae that it was worth passing. I actually thought my effort has been wasted, and that you didn't really care about it-"

"That is not true!" Sungmin denies. "I was thankful to Hyukjae because... it wasn't necessary anymore to pass the plant because I wanted to keep this since I promised to take care of it. I couldn't take care of it when it's already passed, right?"

Kyuhyun smiles sweetly and pats Sungmin's head. "I'm sorry too, for being such a jerk and for suddenly yelling at you."

Sungmin wipes his tears and puts the plant back to the table. "I will promise another, and I am sure it will be done. I will take care of the plant because it's your heart."

"And if it's not my heart?" Kyuhyun walks beside Sungmin.

"Then I'll still take care of it because you are the person who gave this to me," Sungmin declares.

Kyuhyun is pleased with that declaration.

Kyuhyun happily goes to work the next day.

He stayed a little while at Sungmin's house and they talked about a lot of things, particularly about Luna. Kyuhyun wasn't really jealous at Luna, because he knew that something was behind their relationship. Sungmin admitted that they were only doing it for her twin sister.

Luna goes to the ice cream parlor and waits for Sungmin. She plans to tell Sungmin about her real feelings towards Kyuhyun - that he is the person she likes.

Since Sungmin is busy, Kyuhyun is the one who attended to her. "Hi, may I take your order?"

"U-Uhm, one banana split please," she says. "I-I didn't know you're working here too."

"Well, yeah," Kyuhyun nods and smiles. "I was absent yesterday. I am sorry about yesterday too."

Luna waves her hand. "No problem, Mr. Cho."

"Just call me Kyuhyun, since you're Sungmin's girlfriend," Kyuhyun says. "Oh, I will get your order. Be right back."

Luna blushes. Ryeowook's eyebrows meet as he realizes that Luna is acting weird around Kyuhyun. He approaches Luna. "Hi," he plainly greets. "I am Sungmin's best friend, Ryeowook."

Luna smiles. "Hi, Ryeowook. Sungmin likes to talk about you when we have time."

"Say, do you like Kyuhyun? I have this feeling and I can't remove this feeling," Ryeowook asks straightforwardly. Luna gets shocked at the question. "Sorry to say, Kyuhyun belongs to-"

"Sorry to keep you waiting," Sungmin attends to her and sits across her chair. "I just fixed some things inside the kitchen," Sungmin turns to Ryeowook. "Oh, Wook, are you two discussing something?"

Ryeowook chuckles. "No, we're fine. Right Luna?"

Luna just nods and smiles awkwardly at Sungmin. "O-Oh, yeah, he's right!"

"Hmm, don't harass my girlfriend too much!" Sungmin laughs. Ryeowook nods.

"Don't worry, Min. I was just telling him to whom Kyuhyun belongs to," Ryeowook assures and Sungmin scratches his head. "Nothing to worry about!" Ryeowook leaves the two.

Sungmin notices that Luna suddenly looks occupied. "Problem, Luna? Why did you suddenly go here?"

"Have you asked Kyuhyun about the person he likes?" Luna suddenly opens up. "Oppa, I want to be honest with you. When you asked me who I liked, we were interrupted, and I was not able to tell you the answer. Now, I would like to confess to you that the person I like... it's Kyuhyun."
