Chapter 18 - The Pact

Sungmin helds his chest as breathes rapidly. He puffs his cheeks and blows some air to calm himself.

"Just... what the hell happened!?" He asks myself as he recalls how he blushes with that simple statement. He turns around and looks at the door. "That jerk."

So, you're quite special for me.

He shakes his head as he closes his eyes tightly. "No, no, no, shut up!"

"Who are you talking to?" He opens his eyes and sees Kyuhyun coming out from the house.

He is very embarrassed so he just looks away. "We need to get going. I need to study."

Kyuhyun smirks. "Well, I didn't know that would come from you."

"Whatever, Cho," Sungmin turns around and starts to go down the stairs. "Let's go, twerp. We need to get moving."

They reach the plaza. They are in a shop that sells phone accessories.

"Look, there are a lot of phone cases for your phone here. What do you want so that I can already go home?" Sungmin walks towards a table where phone cases are. Kyuhyun approaches Sungmin and looks for a phone case. After a few seconds, Sungmin grabs one phone case and shows it to Kyuhyun. "How about this? Green looks good on your phone."

"Green? Why green?" Kyuhyun asks.

"Nothing, I just observe that you are a nature person. You have a mini garden outside your house, that is why," Sungmin explains. "And I think green suits you."

"It suits me, how?" Kyuhyun asks again.

"Because you're a ert!" He exclaims and laughs. Kyuhyun looks around when people glance at them. Sungmin's voice is too loud, enough for everyone to hear it.

He glares at Sungmin who continues to laugh. "How am I a ert?" Kyuhyun's voice is soft but is emphatic. "Did I even touch anyone? Do I show public display of affection with the people I don't know?"

Sungmin narrows his eyes. He realizes that Kyuhyun is talking about him. "You're a ert. Period."

Kyuhyun just rolls his eyes.

Sungmin looks back at the phone cases displayed. His eyes twinkle when he sees a pink phone case that looks exactly the case that he is recommending to Kyuhyun. "Oh my gosh! A pink one! I am so gonna buy this," He calls the person attending to the customers and asks for the price of the phone case. He searches for his wallet and becomes disappointed when he sees that his money is not enough for two phone cases. "Ugh! I hate this. Do I need to save money again!? Pink looks good. You told it yourself before. I'll just buy you a pink one."

Kyuhyun does not argue anymore. "Fine. Buy the pink one using your money."

"You like pink too?" Sungmin asks excitedly.

Kyuhyun does not confirm nor deny it. He just tells Sungmin to pay for it already.

When Sungmin gets the phone case again and pays it, he asks Kyuhyun for his phone. "Give me your phone."

"Why?" He asks. He is about to give it to Sungmin but he remembers that he has a sleeping Sungmin wallpaper. He takes it back. "No. I'll just put it myself."

"You're weird," Sungmin snatches the phone from Kyuhyun's hand. Kyuhyun gets startled when Sungmin looks at the screen. "It's still the same."

He secretly sighs as he realizes that the phone is locked. Sungmin can't open it. He just watches Sungmin while putting the phone case on his phone.

"There!" Sungmin gives the phone to Kyuhyun who in turn looks at his phone, thinking that pink somehow looks good, despite of him not liking it eversince. But since it is what Sungmin likes, then fine. "Aw, that pink case really looks good. I'll really buy it sometime. Oh well. Let's go!"

Sungmin does not wait for Kyuhyun anymore. He goes out from the store.

Kyuhyun turns back to the table and grabs another stock of a pink phone case. He then goes to the cashier and pays for it.

They eat in a burger chain afterwards.

"All those shopping exhausted me," Sungmin comments as he bites on his burger. "Thanks for this, Kyuhyun. I'll just pay you back."

"May I ask when?" Kyuhyun asks. He didn't order a burger for himself because he was still full. "You rely on your allowance so I don't think you can pay me back."

Sungmin pouts. "Don't underestimate me, Cho. I can pay you back, I tell you."

"I don't want you to pay me back, honestly. Your company is all worth it," Kyuhyun says. Sungmin is frozen for a moment, but he easily recovers and continues to eat. "Oh, and I have something for you."

Kyuhyun gets the same phone case that Sungmin bought and shows it to Sungmin. Sungmin angrily stares at Kyuhyun. He is displeased. Very displeased. "Are you nuts!? Why did you buy another one?"

"Just think of it as an incentive to strive harder," Kyuhyun says. "Besides, I appreciate your effort of going to my house to personally thank me. You're my first ever visitor so you're spe-"

"Shut up!" Sungmin shouts. He knows what Kyuhyun is going to say again, and he is afraid that he can't handle it again, so he tries to stop Kyuhyun from co tinuing. "Okay, I'll accept it. Thanks."

Sungmin gets his phone and attaches the phone case. "I didn't know that you liked pink too. A lot of guys do not like that color because it is kind of girly, but I disagree. I like it and I think that it suits guys very much."

Kyuhyun smiles. "Actually, I hate pink."

Sungmin glares at Kyuhyun. "But why did you ask me to buy the pink one if you hate it!? Are you just playing around with-"

"You said that pink looks good, so I think it really does," Kyuhyun says and smiles. "Well... I am a guy, so it suits me too, right?"

you, Cho, Sungmin curses Kyuhyun in his mind. He feels that his cheeks are burning again for the second time. Why is he even feeling that around Kyuhyun? He awkwardly finishes his burger and drinks his soda before speaking again. "I said that, but it doesn't mean that it applies to you."

"If you said so," Kyuhyun says.

Kyuhyun volunteered to take him home. It is really awkward for Sungmin, because no one has also taken him home and has gone to his house except Kyuhyun. Sungmin told him to not go, but Kyuhyun followed him still.

They arrive in front of Sungmin's house. "Don't expect that I'll let you in," Sungmin says to Kyuhyun.

"Why? Am I also the first one who goes here?" Kyuhyun asks.

"Of course not!" Sungmin answers defensively. He is obviously lying. "Go home now, Cho. I have to study."

"I am serious about what I said before, Sungmin," Kyuhyun says. "If you pass all your subjects, then I will be your friend. I will act as civil as possible in front of you and our friends. I don't easily accept new friends to my life, but you proved to me you're different from what I thought you were. Now, do you accept my deal?"

Sungmin stares at the hand that Kyuhyun offers him. If he becomes a friend, then he can help Ryeowook more. He can convince Kyuhyun more that Ryeowook is the one for him. He looks at Kyuhyun and grabs it to shake hands with him. "I accept it. I will not fail, Kyuhyun. For my best friend. For everyone."

"Okay. See you later after examinations, Lee," Kyuhyun removes his hand, turns around and walks away. Sungmin remains there until he can completely not see Kyuhyun anymore. When he can't see Kyuhyun anymore, he enters the house.

He is totally in a good mood when he goes to his room. He unknowingly smiles as he sits on the bed. The fact that Kyuhyun is looking forward to see him after examinations makes him happy. He is also asking him to pass the examinations to be his friend. But he still doesn't know why he was very glad hearing those words from his number one enemy.

He browses his notes and studies. Then he looks at his phone. That pink phone case really looks good. He decides to thank Kyuhyun once again by texting him.

'Thank you for the phone case.'

Kyuhyun receives a text message from Sungmin and it makes him smile and feel giddy. He replies.

'You're welcome. Go and study now. Good luck.'

When he is about to keep the phone in his pocket, he bumps into someone and drops the phone to the ground. When he is about to get it, he sees Donghae who turns out to be the one that he bumped into. He forgets that he dropped his phone. "Oh, Kyuhyun! Is that the phone case that Sungmin bought for you? Why pink? Don't you hate pink?"

Donghae grabs the phone and looks at the phone screen. Kyuhyun gets nervous when he sees Donghae's expression.

Donghae looks at him unbelievably and asks, "Why do you have Sungmin as your wallpaper!?"
