SBS will combine their end of year award shows
K-NewsSBS has announced that all the awards shows held at the end of every year will now be combined into one large awards ceremony, rather than three different shows.
On September 17th, SBS announced that all of their music, entertainment and acting awards shows that are held in the last month of every year will now be integrated into one large ceremony show called abbreviated as "SAF," or "SBS Awards Festival."
For many years, broadcasting agencies such as SBS, KBS and MBC have all held their respective awards ceremonies at the end of every year, nominating numerous celebrities for awards ranging from best new actor to best rookie singer of the year—targeting every media industry such as music, entertainment (variety shows) and acting.
Prior to this new idea of awards shows, SBS has been broadcasting three different ceremonies: the SBS Entertainment Awards, which focuses on nominating celebrities and shows in the variety program genre, the SBS Drama Awards, which focuses on nominating various actors, actresses, and dramas, and the SBS Gayo Daejeon (Music Awards), which targets nominations of different artists, albums and singles.
Beginning this year, SBS will be combining these awards shows into one large ceremony instead of three. Representatives of SBS stated, "The SAF will showcase all the contents of the three major awards shows starting from mini-concerts and performances by various artists to mini-presentations and stages by a variety of actors and actresses. We are expected to have many fun and entertaining things to show our viewers at this end of the year festival."
This festival will begin broadcasting the nominations and awards in the month of December over a course of several days, unlike past years’ shows where each awards ceremony had one day set to broadcast and only lasted approximately 2 to 3 hours long.
