Chinese media sources have reported rumors that Kris (Wu Yifan) may be starring in another Chinese movie.

It was reported in Chinese media that Kris could be starring in yet another Chinese movie, a remake of the popular historical drama series “Scarlet Heart” or “Startling by Each Step.” 

He as well as actress Zanilia Zhao Liying have been rumored to be casted as the two leads. Zhao Liying has starred in various other historical-themed works such as “New My Fair Princess,” “Legend of Lu Zhen” and “Boss & Me.” The rumors originate from Weibo posts that reveal the updated cast. 

Wang Xiaodai: “The movie version of ‘Scarlet Heart’ will cast Zhao Liying as Ruoxi with the Fourth Prince still a secret!”

Entertainment Gossip Commentator: “The movie rendition of ‘Scarlet Heart’ will begin filming at the end of the year! Ruoxi is said to be played by Zhao Liying and the Fourth Prince is very likely to be Wu Yifan. Wu Yifan has been so busy lately! But why is Ruoxi Zhao Liying, is it going to be ruined?”

The drama “Scarlet Heart” is a historical period drama with a time-warp premise. After a traffic accident, the female lead from the 21st century finds herself in the dynastic period amidst a power struggle over succession. Zhao Liying is set to play the role of the spunky female lead while Kris is rumored to play her love interest, a prince of the era. 

Despite Kris’ popularity, fans have been objecting to this casting, stating that his age would not match the profile of the character he is set to play. Some do so in loyalty to the original drama cast, stating they will only accept Nicky Wu and Liu Shishi as these roles. Objection towards Zhao Liyang’s casting have also arisen as fans have doubts about her performance, expressing suspicious as to why she was chosen for the role. 

The movie is set to begin filming at the end of this year. 

In related news, Kris recently attended the premier for “Somewhere Only We Know” and also participated in the soundtrack for “Tiny Times 3.”
