Miss. Trouble

“LEERANG.” she could hear her mother’s voice despite having set the iPod on full volume. “WHAT?” whilst replying did she pull her headphone off, and it wasn’t until then when she noticed that the older woman was standing just outside her bedroom. “Open this door in an instant. We have to talk.” fearing that it had something to do with the envelope she ducked under the cover and hid, “about what?” Leerang’s mother would probably think she did it all herself.

“About why the school called and wondered why I hadn’t replied back to them about a certain prom they wanted me to take care of. Apparently had your homeroom teacher given you an envelope with the papers needed, but I haven’t, as far as I know, seen it. Mind telling me why?” to tell the truth was normally the best, well, but not in this case though. Leerang wouldn’t be allowed to visit her father if she were to tell the older woman about what’d happen. Her mother were already paranoid as it was, thinking that she would be molested by everyone in the North.

“I must’ve misplaced it or something.” that was one of her charms, being forgetful. “Really, you misplaced it?” the old woman didn’t exactly believe the excuse, especially since she knew how much Leerang disliked such events. “Well, it doesn’t really matter now, I’ve already accepted the request.” the girl stuffed her face into the pillow and groaned. She wasn’t too hyped about the whole prom thing, and had looked forward to skip it completely. But that would be impossible now, as Leerang’s mother would pester her about the whole ordeal for weeks to come.

“Can you unlock the door now?” without a choice she slipped out of bed and walked over to the door, and that all the whilst she heaved a sigh. The sight of her mother’s dressed up self greeted the girl the second the door was pulled open. “Awh, don’t look so devastated honey.” Leerang flinched when her mother reached out and pinched her cheek. Skin contact had never really been her thing. “It’s going to be lots of fun.” no it wasn’t, Leerang knew very well how everything would turn out. “Really fun.” she spoke in a sarcastic manner. This sort of lifestyle was not suited for Leerang, yet, her mother couldn’t understand that.

“Speaking of which, we’re going shopping this instant.” shopping, shopping and shopping. That seemed to be the only thing of importance nowadays. Unfortunately for the woman was Leerang not the slightest interested in doing so at the moment. The girl had enough homework to occupy herself with for the night. “I got homework.” not even that worked, “this will just take a couple of hours, and you know how important your stepfather’s birthday party is.” Leerang had heard that for several weeks already, the constant nagging to buy a present had even caused the girl to feel anxious. The older male was someone she didn’t know too well. Mainly because he was never around. Work and business trips took up most of his time. In fact, she hadn’t even bought a gift yet, as she’d already begun on a drawing that would, when it was finished, represent her stepfather.

“I know.” the said birthday party was going to take place the coming Saturday at their mansion. It was an event her mother had planned for several months just to make it perfect. What the older woman didn’t know though, was that Leerang had already made a plan to sneak away. She could only imagine how her mother would react once she noticed that Leerang was missing. Just the thought of it almost made the girl laugh aloud. “Go and get dressed then.” with that being said was she pushed inside her bedroom, “be ready in fifteen minutes.”

In the fifteen minutes that passed did she managed to take a quick shower, dry herself off and get dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and an oversized sweatshirt. It was a set of clothing Leerang felt comfortable wearing. Her mother had another view on her choice of clothes though, “you’re not leaving this house looking like that.” well, she wasn’t the slightest interested in shopping anyhow, “then I’m not following with you.” did it really matter what she was wearing? They were just going to try on new outfits, not attend some sort of high society event. “Are you disobeying me right now?” the strict side of her mother showed itself and Leerang flinched away, scared that her actions would get consequences.

In the end she just settled with changing her ‘shabby’ outfit to a more ladylike one. But it was not without feeling a bit hurt. Leerang couldn’t express who she was just because of the status they had. She was, instead of being seen upon as an individual with different charms, molded into someone who fit in. To be different was not something her mother would accept. An influential person with a huge paycheck, that’s what the older woman wanted her to become whilst a painter, like Leerang wanted to be, was something her mother would never agree on.

The ride to the first store had been awkward, as the girl was still upset. “I don’t understand why it’s so difficult for you to dress appropriately.” what was considered appropriate? Low-cut cocktail dresses that showed more than it covered? Expensive high heels you only wanted to wear once because they gave you blisters? However, Leerang kept quiet despite having enough material to start a heated conversation. “We’re not going home until you’ve found a dress, just so you know.” damn, she’d hoped her mother would grow tired and decide to call it a day once it took too long.

The first store they entered was, just like the other ones on that same street, one with only brand names and luxury. Leerang didn’t even need a minute in there before she felt uneasy and out of place. “Go find something you want to wear, the price doesn’t matter.” the girl was ordered away in an instant, an ordeal that only increased the negative feelings she had. To visit such stores were unusual, as her mother used to buy all the outfits she wore to parties and events. So, what’d made it different that time around? Did something happen?

“Can I help you?” startled by the voice Leerang spun around, she hadn’t expected to be interrupted so suddenly. “I, eh, yes.” she accepted the request, as she wished no more than to go home. “I need a dress, one that look good.” that must’ve sounded ridiculously stupid, who would buy something that didn’t look good. “Within what price range?” jealousy became evident in the sales woman's eyes the second Leerang explained that there was none. “Okay, let’s see what we can find.” the two of them disappeared off, thus leaving the older woman to herself. “Do you have a favorite designer?” she instinctively shook her head, “no.”

Half an hour later and she was yet to find a dress she liked. They’d already gone through a few but none of them had captured her attention that much. It wasn’t because the dresses were ugly or anything, it was the price that caused Leerang to move on. How could the girl possibly spend so much on a piece of clothing she was only going to wear once?

Then, out of nowhere did her gaze fall on a white dress, the design was fairytale-like, yet simple and not too much. With a fluttering heart did she make her way over, totally forgetting about the employ that was still going through piece after piece of marvelous looking dresses. “Excuse me but how much does this cost?” there was no price tag on the clothes, as all the pieces were exclusive and often one of a kind. The woman gave the dress a quick glance and before she disappeared for a moment, “that one costs 3 million won.” it was a lot cheaper than most of the other dresses, plus, it was by far the prettiest one she’d seen there. “I would really want to try it on.”

Leerang couldn’t help but to smile once the dress was on and the mirror showed how perfect it fit. Though, there was still one more person she needed to convince and that was her mother. If the older woman didn’t like it then Leerang would have to look for another one. The whole, find a dress you like, was not completely right. It was more, find a dress you like that I find okay too. Unlocking the dressing room door she stepped out and headed to the sofa where her mother was seated.

“Mom what do yo -.” she came to an immediate stop when seeing that it was not just her mother there, but them as well. The six guys from the bus stood there, all of them, except for him was staring straight at the girl. A faint blush crept up Leerang’s cheeks when she understood that they were checking her out. “Mom.” the woman gave her a smile, as if there was nothing wrong with the situation. “There you are and such a nice dress you’ve managed to find.” Leerang didn’t know what to make out of that statement, she was uncertain to whether her mother actually liked the dress or not. However, to cause a scene there, inside a store and in front of so many people would create cracks in their perfect facade. In fact, she’d even gotten yelled at after the pool incident, as the woman had felt utterly embarrassed. “This is my daughter Leerang. Leerang this is -why don’t you guys introduce yourselves?”

The first one gave her a cheeky grin, “Sehun,” the other one standing on the boy’s left smirked whilst he introduced himself as Kai. After that was the one who’d made the bad joke on the bus the other day, “Kyungsoo.” Leerang flinched when her eyes fell on the next one, his dark gaze made the girl uneasy, “Baekhyun.” maybe his suit had been destroyed after all, but really, who would get that pissed over some clothes?

“Chanyeol you’re drooling.” someone pointed out and Leerang’s gaze did instantly fall upon the next boy in line. The tall male gave her a dazzling smile all the whilst he wiped his lips with the back of his hand, “I’m Chanyeol.” the smile he displayed grew wider and she blinked, slightly confused to why he looked so happy. “Lay.” her heart fluttered when hearing his voice, though, the boy refused to look at her. “Mrs. Im, I have a date so I need to leave.” Lay informed the woman who’d called them there. She’d contacted him out of nowhere and told the boy to bring his group of friends to the boutique. He had never received a reason to why though. “Of course you can leave.”

Leerang’s mood dropped when the boy left, she’d hoped that he would’ve stayed a little while longer. The fact that he had a date as well, didn’t exactly make anything better. She should’ve understood though, that such a handsome boy couldn’t possibly be single. “Do you want that dress?” huh, oh, right, “yes.” Leerang had almost forgotten that she was still wearing it, “Chanyeol, you’re drooling again.” the girl decided that it was time to change back into her other clothes again. “I’ll be right back.”

In the midst of all the commotion had one of the boys’ disappeared off to the dressing rooms. It was an ordeal that went by unnoticed until Leerang was yanked inside one of them. Shocked by the event she couldn’t even scream for help. Not that it would’ve helped because the boy slapped a hand over anyhow, “pay up for the suit you destroyed.” Baekhyun leaned in, the boy was not one you messed with. “If you don’t, then I’ll find a way to make you.” Leerang panicked when she noticed how his gaze dropped to her chest.

Had he just implied that he would her?

Chapter 72: Wow. Awesome story. Though I wonder whatever became of Leerang's mother? I bet she probably disowned Leerang for doing everything against her wishes. I'm glad that Leerang stayed with Kris and helped to get his life back on track. Great story.
