Miss. Trouble

Two days had passed since the incident at Kris’ mother’s café and Leerang was seated at her studydesk, trying to come up with something to draw. A task harder said than done as several thoughts invaded her mind every other minute. Her mother had called earlier as well, to inform the girl about the University applications that needed to be filled and sent in. To bring up Korean National University of Arts would be a bad choice, more so since she wanted to take that face-to-face. Unfortunately was time not on her side, it was only two weeks left until all papers had to be fixed. There was also this other small problem; she had to send in a work of her own with the application as well, something the girl hadn’t even begun with. The reason to that though, was because of the theme, one she had trouble with.

“How am I supposed to draw something that makes me happy?” to put such an emotion into a drawing was hard, even more so when she had absolutely no inspiration. Sure, there was a lot of things who made her happy and cheerful. But none of them were special, not in the way Leerang wanted it to be. Plus, the joyous feeling wouldn’t exactly find its way to her after all the chaos that’d taken place the past week, and the girl had even turned down an offer to see an art exhibition together with Jungah. “Everything is so stupid.” frustrated she shoved the sketchpad away, “why does it have to be like this?” tears threatened to spill as she thought about her father, whom she loved so much but who also made idiotic decisions. Did he not understand what kind of pain he was causing her?

Barely a minute later was the door downstairs slung open, “LEERANG?” panic washed over the girl and she hurried to wipe away the small traces of tears before making her way down, “yes?” her mother stood there, both hands filled to the brim with bags from different kind of brand shops. “I need some help, there’s still a few bags left in the cab.” Leerang gaped once she’d made her way over to the taxi, it wasn’t just a few bags. “Why does she buy so much things when they’re only going to be shoved into the closet?” her mother was an expert on that, to buy clothes and shoes and then never wear them.

“Can’t you hurry, we don’t have all day.” a sense of worry grew within Leerang, but before she managed to say anything did her mother interrupt, “I need you to come with me to the mall. There’s a few things that are needed for the prom.” the girl was suddenly reminded about something she’d wished could just dissapear. The whole event was simply too much, even more now when her mother was pulling the strings. “Do I have to?” a stern glare from the older woman was all that were needed for Leerang to give in, “never mind.”

An hour later and dressed in some decent clothes, as her mother would call it, did they enter the enormous building. “It’s going to be a masquerade. So everything revolving around that theme is of importance.” it wasn’t like Leerang would be of any help, “okay.” proms and parties weren’t her stronger side, therefore was she going to keep shut and let the older woman deal with the problem. “We need to look for a suitable dress for you as well.” the girl couldn’t help but to sigh, an action her mother heard, “you’re not ruining it, you hear me? Because I’ve already settled for you to go with Lay.” Leerang came to an immediate stop, “what?” her mother had no right to act like some matchmaker, especially not when it included Leerang. Fine, she liked the older boy but it was nonetheless embarrassing.

“Why are you so worked up, I thought you liked him?” still, the girl wanted to approach Lay on her own, without any help, “I do -.” the older woman cut her off before she got the chance to finish, “then why are you acting so upset? Shouldn’t you be thankful I went through the hassle of finding someone who could take you.” Leerang let another sigh slip from her lips, the situation was unbelievable, “because you’re taking decisions I should be deciding.” it’d come to a point where it felt like the whole world was against her. Nothing worked anymore.

“You’re being very ungrateful right now.” oh really, blame it on her, as if it was Leerang’s fault all of a sudden, “and you can go shopping on your own.” frustrated by the turn of events the girl walked off, the adrenaline rushing through was so strong she paid no attention to the possible consequences her actions might get. “I’m not a baby anymore, I can actually take care of myself.” Leerang muttered to herself as she advanced forward, her destination still unknown.

Much to her dismay could she not take any public transportation either, as she’d left all her stuff except for the cell phone, at home. In other terms would Leerang have no other choice but to head back to the car later on. “Why did I leave my credit card?” she’d stopped right outside a restaurant after her stomach had rumbled a couple of times, “I’m hungry.” to get back and ask for some money was a definite no, she wouldn’t let her mother win this time around. “Just keep it together.” hopefully would it only take an hour or two, that’s if the older woman didn’t decided to vent out her anger by shopping countless of unnecessary things. It wouldn’t exactly be the first time.

“Ugh, look what the cat dragged in.” Leerang moved about, not the slightest pleased to have stumbled upon Seoyoung and her group of friends, “leave me be.” she tried to step around the other girl, but found the task impossible when Seoyoung grasped onto her arm, “you’re not going anywhere until I say so.” reality began to dawn and the girl let out a cry when feeling nails pierce her skin, “stop, it hurts.” Leerang couldn’t believe they were ganging up on her like that.

“Didn’t I tell you to stay away from Chanyeol.” another cry escaped the second she felt Seoyoung grasp even harder, and it wouldn’t surprise her if the action drew blood, “but he’s my friend.” laughter could be heard, “you, friends, right. Who would want to be friends with you?” all of them laughed, as if it was some kind of joke. Seoyoung quiet down though, after a few seconds, before she turned dead serious, “you don’t want to upset me.” unconsciously did Leerang gulp, terrified of what the other girl was capable of doing. However, to stay away from Chanyeol was out of the question, more so since she needed him. The kiss might’ve made it a bit awkward, but he was nonetheless her friend. “Just do what I say, okay.” Leerang bit down on her bottom lip as the other girl squeezed hard and then let go of her arm, “such an eyesore.” tears pricked her eyes whilst she watched Seoyoung and her friends wander off, suddenly dreading the fact school would start in two weeks time.

Feeling the tears roll she hurried to wipe them away, and that before anyone saw her pathetic self. But the thoughts however, wouldn’t stop. They continued to make themselves known and she glanced down on her arm, blood was evident and Leerang drew in a deep breath as she gently dabbed her fingertip around the small bruises, “ouch.” yet again was she hurt. “Half a year and high school is over.” the girl reminded herself it wasn’t that long before the torture would end. Unfortunately did it not give her the comfort she so desperately needed. Six and a half month was still too much and with the new threat Leerang knew the next coming weeks would be troublesome.

Having decided to simply head back to the car the girl swept a hand over her face, as if to make sure all the tears were gone. Leerang never made it that far though, because a certain blonde haired, tall, male stepped up and placed himself in the way, “move.” she didn’t have time for him, especially as she wasn’t in the mood to argue with the older male. “You’re bleeding.” Kris extended his hand and was right about to grab onto her arm when she pulled it away, “don’t.” the pain was too much and the girl didn’t want anyone to touch it. Leerang was slightly confused, too, as she’d thought he was needed at the café, “why are you even here?” during the whole time had she not even spared him a single glance, something Kris found rather disturbing. “Because I work here when there’s barely anything to do at the café.” Leerang couldn’t help but to wonder how many jobs he had, more so since he seemed to do nothing else but work. On the contrary however, did the girl feel like she had no right to pry into his business. What he occupied himself with wasn’t any of her concern.

“MOVE.” a voice called from behind and Kris latched onto the younger girl’s hand before Leerang even got the chance to react. Despite the warning though, did something connect with her back and she stumbled forward, thus crashing right into Kris, whose eyes widened and heart raced at the contact. “S -sorry.” Leerang was beyond flustered and tried to pull back as soon as possible, only to notice how some of the blood had smeared onto his shirt. Panic washed over the girl, “I’m sorry.” not realising the intimacy she reached out and placed her hand against his fabric covered stomach. “Ahh, so stupid.” the words were close to inaudible and Leerang pouted when Kris grasped onto her hand, “I didn’t know we were that close.” his statement caused her cheeks to flush bright red, “we aren’t.” embarrassed Leerang tried to look elsewhere, an ordeal which became rather difficult as she, every other second, glanced at his hair. Seeing him sport another color than black looked good on him.

“Leerang.” shocked to hear her mother’s voice Leerang spun around, slightly distressed, “what?” she hadn’t forgiven, nor forgotten about the ordeal with the prom. “We’re leavi -.” the words died away as she glanced towards the tall male standing right behind her daughter, whom she also recognized from that restaurant a few weeks earlier. The woman frowned in disgust, she was not going to allow her daughter to be seen with such low life people. “Annyeonghaseyo.” Kris bowed, if not slightly awkward as he hadn’t expected to meet Leerang’s mother there. “Who are you?” the girl felt the previous anger boil within, more so since she knew her mother was simply doing that to make him uneasy, “he’s my friend.”

It was obvious the older woman disliked her friendship with Kris, because she’d literally dragged Leerang away from him, “I forbid you to see him.” purposely did she slam the car door as hard as possible, “you can’t do that, he’s my friend.” the girl would never agree on such an absurd thing. “I’m your mother and I decide that you can’t.”

Chapter 72: Wow. Awesome story. Though I wonder whatever became of Leerang's mother? I bet she probably disowned Leerang for doing everything against her wishes. I'm glad that Leerang stayed with Kris and helped to get his life back on track. Great story.
