Chapter 67

5 Pieces' Magnae (5)

“5 Pieces, right?”

Hannah is stunned, not having any idea of how to react to the fact that a stranger just pushed her to the ground. The girls above her are just teenagers, young ones too. They look around and someone grabs Hannah’s hood, also her hair in the same grip and they forces her up on her feet and almost drags her to the side so others can’t see. Ace comes too, since Hannah is holding on to the leach. Hannah grabs the hand that is holding her hood, her hair hurting by the grip that is pulling her. Hannah asks what they are doing; taking away the grip of her hood and hair and stumbles to stand straight, just to receive a kick on her leg.

“What’s that for?”

“Go back to Sweden, b*tch,” the girl who kicked her answers. Though the girls aren’t very tall or old at all, their kicking does hurt. When they push with their hands, Hannah just pushes their hands away, but the kicking really hurts. The girls are swearing, calling her words while bullying her, pushing her here and there. Hannah gets down on her heels to pick up Ace – making sure they won’t take him or kick him – and she is pushed against the wall when she is on her heels.

“No one wants you here,” one of the girls spits at her.

“And I thought 5 Pieces was supposed to be tough,” another laughs. “You aren’t so tough now, are you?”

A hand pushes her head, but Hannah just tells Ace in a low whisper that it’s okay, because Ace is making weird sounds and is shaking. She is crying, Hannah, because it do hurts, and she is shocked. She can’t do anything; she doesn’t know what to do. She can’t hit them, that are for sure, and she finds the best way is to just not do anything. Someone kicks her on the back, and that does feel a lot.

“Let’s go,” she can hear one of the girls says, hearing someone else coming. One of the girls leans towards Hannah, giving her a warning that they won’t give up until 5 Pieces goes back to Sweden forever; never come back.

Seconds after they have left, Manager Kim gives out a scream when seeing Hannah sitting on the ground and not caring about anything else than calming Ace and stop crying. “What happened? Are you okay? Are you hurt?” Manager Kim won’t stop the questions and she picks up her cell phone to call for a ride – no way will she let Hannah walk.

Hours later, Carolina comes back to the apartment after finishing her radio. Everyone else is already at home, and Ace is cuddling on Hannah’s bed with a blanket. Next to Ace lies Hannah. She is lying on the side under the quilt, using one hand to cuddle with Ace while her face expression is sad.

She can hear the others talk outside.

Carolina asks questions and the other members tell her what they have told each other already. ‘No serious wounds, some small bruises and shock’ and ‘it won’t affect our schedule, but we will have guards with us 24/7’. Even now, Manager Lim is in the apartment. He will sleep over; to make sure the girls won’t get the idea to go outside until morning when their next schedule starts. The group will be followed by either guards or police if they go outside or to their schedule, to make sure the anti fans won’t get close. What happened today shocked everyone; even other anti fans think the teenage girls went way too far.

Hannah hushes Ace when he starts to cutely bite her finger, and she looks over at the door when it is shoved open by Emelia’s back. Hannah looks like she wants to hide under her pillow, but instead her head just sinks further down.

“I made you some warm chocolate,” Emelia kindly says, holding a tray in her arms that she takes with her inside the room. Carolina peeks inside the room too, quietly asking how she is doing while Emelia puts down the tray on the bedside table. Hannah didn’t hear Carolina question, and she has nothing to say about the warm chocolate.

The careful and insecure behaviour of her members is not something Hannah likes. They don’t know how to be around her, there is like this awkward feeling between them all. Hannah has heard Maria swear in the kitchen, talking to the others about the anti fans that have gone way too far this time. Their anger isn’t shown in front of Hannah. She is still the baby among them, in their thoughts. And Hannah is that member you can’t predict, which is why they are careful and insecure around her. They don’t know how Hannah will react to their words or be when she has calmed down, or when the shock has faded. It’s not every day you are attacked (bullied) by strangers outside the supermarket.

Julia doesn’t dare to walk inside the room. She keeps telling the others that she wished she had been there, or had replaced Hannah, since all the members are reminded of the car accident. That might also be a reason to their weird behaviour. Hannah has just recovered from the car accident; since she just some months ago was told that her body might fall apart if she won’t let her body rest. And now she was bullied in the middle of the street?

Hannah is just quiet. She doesn’t drink the warm chocolate, and she keeps spacing out to then twitch at every sudden sound from the apartment – a door to one of the other bedrooms or the bathroom closes, Carolina dropping her cell phone on the floor, the sound from the TV and the members talking – anything can causes her to twitch.

It is like Ace knows she is uncomfortable tonight, even in her own bed. He leaves her room just to come back short after.

“I don’t know,” Hannah talks quietly to Ace when the other members are going to bed. “How am I supposed to react?”

An hour later, she is crying. As quietly as possible to not let the others hear, hugging the Pikachu cuddle toy she got from a fan and keeping one hand by Ace. She doesn’t know how she is supposed to react. Anti fans have given them warnings and threats to leave the country and never come back, they have even thrown tomatoes and eggs on the girls. But never have they gathered to personally use their bodies to bully them. Still, Hannah doesn’t give a single thought of their warning. She is used to that, it is just the kicking and pushing she is upset about.

She has bruises; on her back, her waist, and her arms and on her legs. It hurts whenever she moves, and she is happy it was just little girls who had bullied her. If it had been boys or older girls’ maybe she had gotten more than bruises. Bruises can be covered with make-up and she can tell excuses for them too, like practice since you do get bruises from dance-practice.

Hannah falls asleep crying. In the morning she wakes up by Maria taking her hand in hers. Maria looks sad when Hannah meets her eyes. You can see Hannah had cried half the night.

“How are you feeling today?”

She doesn’t know why, but something about that question makes Hannah thoughtful. Maria sounds so sad, that she pities Hannah when asking that question, and it upsets her so much compared to when the question was asked so many times the day before. She doesn’t want everyone to treat her like she is weak just because of what happened.

“Better…” Hannah answers with a wrinkled forehead. She looks at the side, trying to see the clock.

“I have a meeting,” Maria tells Hannah. “About my solo debut. But Julia will be here with you, okay?”

Hannah shakes her head. “I have classes.”

“No,” Maria sounds surprised but kind of gives a chuckle at the same time. “No, you don’t. Everything is cancelled for you today. You should rest.”

“I don’t want to,” Hannah says stubbornly and sits up, taking her hand out of Maria’s. “I’ll go with you to the agency.”

“Hannah-”

“I’m going,” Hannah seriously tells her. “I got some bruises, that’s all. I can’t sit around at home again.”

Again, that word repeats for Maria and just that word lets Hannah get out of bed. Maria still looks sad. Everyone knew how Hannah hates to just sit around at the apartment, since she has done it too much. Maria doesn’t say anything else about it after that, but she keeps an eye on Hannah.

Hannah gets ready for the day, ignoring all looks from her members and manager and even ignoring words. When leaving, she is hiding under a hat and big headphones that clearly shows that she has no intention of getting involved in any conversations. Today she brings her laptop with her, holding it under her arm as if she has something important in it. Maria goes for her meeting while Hannah goes alone to a simple room where Hannah sits down and starts to write on her laptop.

Everything in Hannah’s life can be written about. That is her inspiration: a word, a movie, a person and experience; everything in her live can be part of what she writes on her laptop. It is her way to express herself and let her thoughts wander and go through things. It’s like therapy. Hannah writes what she feels and thinks, but instead of writing her life experience down on the laptop she can write about a totally different scene, as long as her thoughts are put in her work. It’s pretty complicated, which is why she doesn’t talk to anyone about it. Once she has started to write, the words keeps getting written into sentences and line after line is written on the laptop until she has written pages in a flash.

Almost three hours later, Hannah is interrupted in her writing when she received a text on her cell phone. Though her signal isn’t loud, the table she sits by vibrates and she gives a sudden jump. Her heart fastens its beat. With a hand by her chest she picks up her cell phone, glancing around to make sure no one saw her. Jonghyun is free now. She gives him an answer and when she receives another text from him she gives a jump just like she did on the first. It surely irritates her.

She takes off the headphones, puts them on the table and she just sits there, staring at the laptop screen where the text she has been writing is. She doesn’t read it, she just spaces out. Minutes must’ve passed like that, because all off a sudden the door is opened to the room and she almost gives a scream in surprise by it. Jonghyun looks surprised when he sees her. She looks terrified, even after seeing it’s just him.

“Are you okay?” he asks in a worried voice and is quickly sitting next to her with a hand on her back.

Though she nods, she looks scared and Jonghyun puts her in a hug, telling her no one can hurt her. She keeps her eyes closed hard to not start to cry, holding her arms around him. It feels safe; he feels safe. Though Hannah feels better hugging him it is the fact that she doesn’t want to let go that worries Jonghyun. He is going crazy at her silence, because even when hugging and he asks her quietly in her ear what’s on her mind, she normally says something. But recently – even before yesterday – she doesn’t have anything to say.

“I have to sing…” Hannah mutters, the corner of touching his shirt on his chest. She is again spacing out. Jonghyun lets her out of his arms, looking at her face. It takes a second before she moves her eyes to look at him. He nods.

It’s now a question if he can come along. She turns off the laptop and brings it with her as they change room to one of the music rooms. Jonghyun takes the laptop she is holding on to, looking at her distant face when she lets go of the laptop so he can put it on the side with the other things. He takes her hand in his and leads her to sit next to him by the piano. Again he glances at her face, taking out the notes before he starts to play.

Quietly he starts to sing the beginning of [Bound To You] by Christina Aguilera with her, just to help her out at the beginning. When he knows she follows the song, he focuses on just playing on the piano. Hannah’s voice is beautiful, even if it is distant. She is quickly into the song, thinking of the lyrics and keeping her eyes on Jonghyun’s fingers playing. Her voice gets more and more into the song too and Jonghyun can’t help but to glance at her.

She is beautiful.

He sings with her. He sings in a low voice, finishing half of the song together like they have practiced before. When the song ends and Jonghyun plays the final key, Hannah rests her head on his shoulder. She thanks him. Its simple words, but how she says it and how she puts it really makes him know she means it.

Their relationship started with friendship. They could joke with each other, talk and share things. It clicked between them, something that Jonghyun loves about Hannah. He got to know her when they couldn’t speak the same language, and they have shared tearful stories just like happy stories with each other since. He has seen her cry and laugh; she has seen him cry and laugh. They have embraced each other for comfort, both before and after they became a couple. Someone he thinks he will always worry about is just her. She is always in deep thoughts, thinking of things others don’t think about, and though they talk a lot, he knows she doesn’t tell him everything. That makes him worry. That she hugs him now, not saying anything, makes him worry too.

“Can I read what you wrote before I came?” he asks her. She shakes her head, sitting up straight. They are sitting on the piano stool, so he easily moves his one leg to the other side so he can face her. He takes her hands in his, simply kneading with his thumbs on her hands. “If you won’t let me read, then you need to talk. Don’t keep me outside, Hannah.”

“I’m sorry…”

“Don’t say that,” Jonghyun sighs.

“I’m scared,” Hannah admits, not looking up from their hands that he holds together. He is quiet, letting her go on when she feels for it. “I’m scared that … that what happened me yesterday, will happen again. I don’t want me, or the girls, to be afraid to walk outside. I’m scared that … that I will do a big mistake, and it will ruin everything for the group. And …” she shyly looks up at him. “I’m scared that I one day will have to choose between you and pieces, and I am being put in a situation where I don’t want to choose.”

She is talking really slow, as if she thinks of every word she says.

Jonghyun knows exactly what she is talking about. About the last part, he really knows. He loves to sing, he lives to sing, but to have Hannah in his life has become like breathing for him. He knows she is there, he knows she will answer his text, that if she doesn’t answer his call she will call back as soon as possible and she will tell him why she didn’t answer because she would feel bad about it, that when he worries about something she will always welcome him with open arms. A soul mate, he has found.

Hannah smiles, that embarrassed and shy smile of hers and she looks away. Jonghyun smiles when seeing that. All his worries can disappear with just her smile, and he tells her that. Hannah smiles a little wider over his words. She isn’t comfortable talking like that.

Without looking up she sits on her knees, places her hands on his shoulders with her fingers just lightly touching his neck and when she looks up their eyes meet right away. She gets a little higher than him when sitting like that and Jonghyun slightly parts his lips when she leans closer. Jonghyun closes his eyes when she is inches away from him and just when he thinks she will kiss him he can hear her lean back and when he opens his eyes he sees her smilingly leaning back.

“I got practice,” Hannah says with that charming smile when she gets up. Jonghyun gets a slight surprise that she just left him anticipating like that, and when he a second later comes back to sense he runs up – almost knocking over the piano stool in the move – and he is fast to turn Hannah around and press his lips against hers. At the same time as he kisses her he stumbles since he had hurried up and Hannah laughs, kissing him back.

“You don’t have practice,” Jonghyun mumbles, his lips not leaving hers in the open kiss. He can feel how she smiles.

“I have.”

Jonghyun shakes his head and he smiles when meeting her eyes, pausing the kissing. “I can change your mind,” he tells her and holds on to her body with his arms. Hannah gives a laugh, kissing him again.

“I bet you can,” she whispers against his lips, “but can you change my teacher’s?”

Now it’s Jonghyun who laughs, and he says that can be tricky. Minutes later, Hannah leaves his arms to go to practice.
