Chapter 35

5 Pieces' Magnae (5)

The group is since morning doing a photo-shoot which will their first official introduction as 5 Pieces in Japan. The staff is Japanese, so they have a translator with them during the shooting. The concept is cute and charming, so the girls are wearing very colourful and pretty clothes.

Hannah is standing in a pair of colourful baggy pants and a tighter top next to Carolina when taking photos. Carolina puts her arm around Hannah and the two of them shows a very relaxed style in both clothes and posing, though it looks extremely well on the photos. Hannah turns her head a little on the side, moves her legs a little and when she looks towards Carolina the two of them starts to fool around a little too much by pouting their lips towards each other as if they are going to kiss – but their lips are far from each other. Hannah ends up laughing hardly and she apologizes for doing that on set, while Carolina just smiles, enjoying the photo shoot.

After changing clothes, Hannah is looking at Julia, Emelia and Maria shooting together. Since they started the shooting, a special TV program in Japan for just 5 Pieces have been around filming them. The girls have showed their cute sides, their foolish sides, and mostly their loud sides. Even now when the camera is filming Hannah from a distance, the moment the three girls are done shooting for this outfit Hannah loudly claps her hands and cheers when Julia is running over to her. Julia and Hannah hugs and turns around fast while laughing and saying ‘tick, tick, tack, tack’.

Later, the camera comes up to Hannah after that she again has changed clothes. She smiles when the camera comes up in front of her and the man holding the camera asks in Japanese what ‘tick, tick, tack, tack’ means.

“Ah, about that,” Hannah says when she gets the question, and she is talking in Japanese. “Before, Julia was going to complain about a clock… it sounded too much. And she said ‘it goes tick, tick, tack’ about the sound.” Hannah copies the way Julia says it, which was funny, and she chuckles about it herself. “A clock says ‘tick-tack, tick-tack’, so we have jokingly repeated her since. Isn’t it fun?”

Several hours later, Emelia bows when meeting the Japanese interviewer around the table, politely greeting by saying “good morning” in Japanese.

“Ah, is it still morning?” Emelia then asks the interviewer in a funny way to loosen the mood and the woman laughs and says that morning has passed already .Emelia corrects her self by saying “god day” in Japanese to the interviewer. The other members walks over to the table as well, bowing and greeting the woman who is standing up and greeting them back.

“It is our first time meeting,” the woman says kindly in Japanese, the translator sitting around the table too to translate. It is an interview for the magazine they have done the photo shoot for. “You can comfortably answer the questions and please don’t feel any rush.”

The girls all nods after the translation and the interview can start.

“As I know, Japanese fans have asked for a long time when you will make your debut in Japan. How does it feel to finally release a single in Japan?” they are asked.

The girls wait for the translation and they answer the questions in Korean. “We have visited Japan many times before to promote our Korean albums, and we have been very surprised by how many fans we actually have here in Japan. Before, we actually told our fans to wait a little longer, just a little longer for our debut single, so we have been excited to meet the Japanese fans that have waited so long,” Carolina answers.

“Then all of your fans knows that you have been struggling learning Korean while staying in Korea; have you studied any Japanese?”

“You maybe won’t notice, but we do have studied Japanese,” Maria mentions with a laugh. “We are still not very good, but we are working really hard in learning.”

“Then what is your favourite Japanese word at the moment?”

“I really like the word… Kirei (綺麗/nice),” Hannah says in Japanese.

“The word I uses the most and I got most use for is the word Kūfuku no (空腹の/hungry),” Maria says and causes laughter for her funny word.

“Saikō (最高/The best),” Emelia shortly says and they laugh again. “I learnt it to tell everyone that we are最高 and our fans are最高.”

“Ah!” all the members says in a long word. “So cheesy!” and Maria even says; “that’s something Carolina normally would say,” causing so many laughter.

“I like the word Kawaii (可愛い/cute),” Julia says in a low voice.

“For me, I don’t have a word, it’s more a phrase,” Carolina says; “Nanjigan soredesu ka? (何時間それですか?/what time is it?)” They laugh again, especially the interviewer who asks why she likes that phrase. “It is a very needed.”

They go on with the questions.

“Hello all viewers, we are pieces of one-” Hannah says in Japanese and the group together says; “5 Pieces!”

The group is standing together and compared to all the interviews they have done in Korea for the past three years, Hannah is talking the most among them because she can speak in Japanese.

“5 Pieces first single [I Love You] was released on December 6th, please enjoy listen to it,” Hannah says in Japanese before they say ‘cut’ and she awkwardly smiles and hugs Julia’s arm. She then stands up straight when they will film again and they go through within a minute what to say and Carolina is repeating her words. Hannah clears and takes a deep breathe before they start to film and promote their single.

After finish their short promotions videos for channels and such, the girls are happily taken to a restaurant.

What Maria thought was fun on their schedule was where it stood; - [Recording] 5 Pieces In Japan (5 Pieces 日本における/5 Pieces Nippon niokeru). Since morning the cameras has followed them to film them and the recording will go on the whole day, as well as the next day and the day after to show 5 Pieces on their schedule for the Japanese fans. Those cameras catches the girls happily looking through the menu at the restaurant and asking each other and the staff what this and that is.

“We’ll share,” Julia tells and points at Hannah sitting next to her. Julia then looks at Hannah to ask how you say it in Japanese and Hannah simply translates it.

“What to drink…” Emelia says in Japanese and leans over the table to point at something in the menu Julia is holding. “I want this.”

“It is beer,” Hannah laughs when she looks at what it is. Maria gives out a loud laugh on Julia’s other side and Hannah laughs quietly while showing Emelia where it stands beer. Emelia looks disappointed and says she will take Coca Cola instead.

While waiting for their food to arrive, the girls are chatting and going through useful Japanese. Emelia, Carolina and Hannah are all three sitting with dictionaries and going through Japanese words and phrases. Once the food arrives the books are all forgotten and the girls gets quiet while eating. The staff even laughs when mentioning how quiet they became the moment they started to eat. The girls smiles up from the food.

“We always get quiet when eating,” Carolina is the only one stopping to eat. Julia stretches over to take something from Emelia and the girls keeps eating in silence. When they are almost done they start to slowly get into conversations again, asking what they will do and such. They are told they have some free time before they have interviews and such, and Maria happily looks up when that is said.

“Free time?” she asks and looks at her members. “What will we do? No, I’m captain, so I’ll decide. Let’s go eat!”

“We are eating!” the others laugh. Maria makes her eyes smaller when looking at them.

“There are a lot of things I want to eat,” she says. While Maria starts to tell all things in Japan she wants to taste, Hannah asks Emelia and Julia (sitting closest to her) in the background what they will do.

For their short break, the girls head out on the streets. They are excited to see what the stands by the roads have to offer and also to look through the stores. They eat ice cream and walks around a little before heading to their schedule.

Wearing their promotion outfits for [I Love You], 5 Pieces are in a waiting room. Hannah is sitting by the table, copying the Japanese written on a paper and writes it inside their CD on her own photo. Maria is doing the same with another CD next to her and a staff is helping them next too.

“Writing in Japanese is not one of my specialities,” Hannah says in a low voice and Maria agrees.

“It’s difficult,” Maria says and reads out what she has written. On one of the chairs that are lined up against the wall, Emelia is coolly sitting with one leg over the other and playing games on her cell phone. Julia walks up in front of her, drinking some water.

In the next one and half hour, 5 Pieces is doing several TV interviews, most of them are very short. And between them the girls are going through what to say. They are talking in Japanese for the short interviews, while for the longer they are talking in Korean.

At eight o’clock, 5 Pieces is at Music Station for their very first performance on Japanese TV. They are walking around like chickens in the dressing-room, so nervous that they can’t be still. Maria puts her arms around Hannah in a hug, the two of them telling each other words to give each other confident.

“It is like debuting again,” Julia laughs and gives out a jump. “I’m so nervous that I don’t know what to do!”

Carolina is practicing her parts of the song, since it is a new language. Hannah and Maria looks at the camera filming them after finishing their hugging. “Japan has given us a lot of support, so we will try to give them a good performance to enjoy, isn’t that right Baby?” Maria says, still with her arm around Hannah who just nods in agreement.

“because we are 5 Pieces,” Hannah says.

“We’re 5 Pieces,” Maria says a little louder and then they look at each other they both says, filled with excitement; “we’re 5 Pieces!” Emelia smiles behind them, telling another camera that they often shouts or says weird things to help them from being nervous.

A little later they gather around with the hands on top of each other and Hannah can feel how she can’t stop smiling.

“Our first performance in Japan,” Maria starts off saying. “Today has been a great day, so let us finish it great as well. Who are we?”

“5 Pieces!”

“WHO ARE WE?”

“5 PIECES!”
