As I approached the playground, I saw who it really was.
Myungsoo?
I went and sat on the swing next to him. He didnt notice me.
"Yah Myungsoo what happened?", I asked. No response.
I started to swing.
"If there is something wrong, you've got a good listener sitting next to you",I said. He smiled. He faced up and looked at me.
"How did you know?", he asked.
"You havent been yourself for the whole week and plus you dropped from being the ranked number one to number seven", I said.
I gave out a little laugh. "Those are just ranks. Useless numbers. What can you accomplish with them?", he asked. I didnt know how to answer. I kept quiet for a while and stopped swinging.
"You are right. Ranks are mere numbers. But what do you want to accomplish by acting this way all the time? Dont you care where life is going to take you anymore?", I asked.
"You just love to ask these sorts of questions right", he said.
"Says the one who said that its better to talk to someone", I laughed. He smiled.
"Well at night I've been getting these nightmares. The same nightmare for the past few days", he started off. A nightmare? He continued.
"I am one of those people who had their first love at a young age. I'm only 15 but I had my first love at 13, 2 years ago. She was a noona?"
"Noona...?", I wondered.
"Well she was older than me by months but I loved her a lot"
I looked up. "You already had your first love? I'm so envious", I said.
"But she left me...", he stopped. I turned to him.
"She didnt date me because she loved me, she dated me to make others jealous, to prove that she could make someone younger fall for her".
"Woaah, no wonder you back away from girls", I said. "Not all girls are like that though. You were probably really immature back then. No offence though.", I stopped and looked up to the sky. It was snowing.
"You see Myungsoo, there is a difference between love and true love. You can love anyone, even if that person is not the right person. But true love is totally different. Its when you", I stopped again and looked down. I didnt know what to say.
"What is it?", he asked.
"I dont know what true love actually is", I admitted. "But its a feeling you get that you get for no other. Your heart would tell you straight if its the right person of not. If it comes to love, its your heart that should be thinking and not your brain. Thats why people in love end up in weird situations sometimes", I giggled and turned around to look at Myungsoo who was staring at me. Oh god what did I just say. Its embarrassing. I looked down. He giggled too.
"Whether you are right or not it doesnt matter. After all both of us dont know the right answer.", he said. I was still looking on the floor.
"Well just get up now. You are going to catch a cold in the snow", he said after getting up and pulling me out of my seat. "Who knows maybe we will know the true meaning in the future", he smiled.
I've never seen this side to Myungsoo. He was a lot different from who I used to know. A completely different person with the same face as him.
"Here", he said after putting his coat on me. "You are so stupid. Just walking around in school uniform in this weather."
"Arent you going to be cold? I mean it is snowing and you are only wearing a hoodie!", I asked.
"Just shut up and keep it", he said. Thats the Myungsoo I knew. I cant win against this Myungsoo. I kept thinking. He has so many sides to him. Back there that was a Myungsoo I've never seen before. Someone who was willing to open up and express his feelings. Also on that day. He was understanding and a good listener. Its like they are completely different people. I turned around to look at him. He was about to fall asleep while walking.
"Yaah Myungsoo dont fall asleep", I shouted. He didnt respond. His eyes were starting to shut but he tried his best to keep them open.
"Myungsoo?", I called while tapping his arm. He isnt responding. After a few seconds he collapsed into the white snow.
"Myungsoo", I bent down trying to shake his up. I felt his forehead. He was burning up. I took the coat of and lifted him up and put it on him. I took my phone and dialled for the ambulance. I tried to keep him warm and supported him by holding him in order for him not to fall into the snow. A few moments later the ambulance arrived to take us to the hospital. In the ambulance his temperature, blood pressure and blood sugar levels were checked. The paramedics had a brief discussion.
"Um excuse me? I was wondering what his temperature is.", I asked.
"Its 40.6.", she answered. My expression darkened. I heard so many times that people died with such high temperatures.
"Was he under stress lately", another man asked. I remembered what he told me about his nightmares.
"We had exams this week", I made up. "He didnt sleep for a week and didnt eat properly". Their faces brightened up.
" Its probably just the stress that caused him to get a high temperature.", the lady said. My face brightened up.
"He can be dismissed after he gains conciousness. Just makes sure he rests a lot and eats normally". I nodded.
"Good thing you were there to call the ambulance though. I dont think anyone could survive in this weather." I nodded once again.
"Are you his girlfriend?", the man asked.
"Huh?"
"Are you his girlfriend?", he repeated.
"No no no", I exclaimed. "Just his neighbour". They smiled and we went to the hospital. They put Myungsoo on a bed until he regained conciousness and also gave him glucose solution through his arm. When he woke up he looked around.
"Geez I cant believe you. This much commotion over a nightmare", I complained. He didnt say anything.
"Sorry to make you worry this much.", he answered. It was the other side of him. I smiled.
I helped him up and after the doctor saw him we could go back home. We didnt talk much in the bus. Myungsoo seemed to feel really bad.
"You dont have to blame yourself. Just make sure to not stress so much over a nightmare. Just flip the pillow onto the good side", I joked. He finally laughed. I dropped him of and before I could enter the house he stopped me.
"Hey do you want to go and see a movie?", he asked.
"Huh?"
"That movie by that dude. Lee Dongho was it?"
"Lee Minho", I shouted.
"Yes yes him. I got two tickets"
"Why so suddenly?", I asked.
"As a thank you and as a sorry.", he whispered. "Anyways be ready at 11am tomorrow morning!", he said before going in.
I went inside my house and shut the door.
"Lee Minho, Lee Minho", I sang. I stopped.
"Wait! We are going alone?!"
