=Yumi's POV=

I woke up to the sound of kids playing around us.

I slowly opened my eyes, and remembered that I was at Hangang River with Kyuhyun-ssi.

I turned to my side to see a peaceful, sleeping Kyuhyun-ssi beside me.

*sigh* He looks tired though.

I noticed that his jacket was covering my legs, and my head was resting over his arm the whole time.

Oh. I didn't remember being in this position before I fell asleep.

Hmm. Must've been Kyuhyun-ssi then. He always takes care of me.

I was startled by my phone ringing in my bag.

I opened it, and it was my father calling me.

Did they finally remember? Hmph. Too late though. It's already 6 in the evening.

"Hello?"

"Yumi-ah, where are you?" my father lovingly asked.

"I'm..just somewhere with Kyuhyun-ssi. Why?"

"Could you come home already? Some of our relatives are here visiting from the States. They're all looking for you."

"Really?! Oh okay. We'll be right there."

I immediately hung up and slowly sat up to avoid disturbing Kyuhyun-ssi's deep sleep.

I was about to stand up, when I was startled by a hand pulling my arm down, causing me to fall back to lying down again.

I fell on Kyuhyun-ssi's broad, comfortable chest.

He was hugging my neck tightly and was somewhat sniffing my hair, which caused me to jerk and blush a little bit.

"Y-yah, Kyuhyun-ssi. What are you doing?!" I sternly muttered, not wanting him to hear the anxiety I was feeling with his abrupt actions.

"Let's stay like this for a bit." he whispered softly to my ear, which sent tingling sparks all over my body.

Aish. He's such a tease.

"W-we have to go home. I have some relatives visiting from the States, and Appa said they're looking for me already."

"Oh really? They'll just have to wait then." 

"YAH!" I slapped his soft belly fat and stood up from his grasp.

"Aish. Alright, alright. Let's go." he slowly stood up and pulled me towards the bus stop.

We got off the bus and swiftly walked towards our house.

Kyuhyun-ssi lent me his jacket since it was getting colder already, and it was my mistake to wear such a mini dress today.

Well, I didn't really know that we would stay out this late.

Kyuhyun-ssi slowly held my hand, and intertwined my fingers through his.

He looked down at me with a big grin plastered on his face.

I didn't really mind since he was my best friend, but he just seemed to love skinship too much today.

A few minutes later, we arrived at our house.

I rang the doorbell, but no one was opening the door.

After a few more minutes, I decided to unlock the door myself, since I owned a spare key anyway.

I slowly turned the knob and opened the door.

Kyuhyun-ssi followed behind me.

"Why is it so dark in here?" I mumbled.

"I think you should stay behind me, just to make sure it's safe, Yumi-ssi."

I nodded and followed behind Kyuhyun-ssi.

We walked towards the light switch which was only a few steps away from the door.

Kyuhyun-ssi quietly reached for the light switch and flicked it open.

"SURPRISE!"

=Kyuhyun's POV=

We got off the bus and were walking towards Yumi-ssi's house.

It was a really fun day today, I've had the best day of my life, Yumi-ssi.

I slowly held Yumi-ssi's hand and tangled our fingers to each other.

She looked up at me with a shocked expression. I gave her an all too innocent friendly grin.

She smiled back and continued to walk.

*sigh* She's probably thinking that this is all just normal 'best friend' skinship.

Whatever, I still get to act like this around her, right? Kekeke~

We finally arrived at their house, and Yumi-ssi rang the doorbell.

No one opened the door, so Yumi-ssi decided to use her key and unlock the door herself, since it was getting too cold out here.

We walked inside, but there was something creepy around the house.

All the lights were switched off, and it was quiet.

Too quiet.

"Why is it so dark in here?" Yumi-ssi mumbled.

"I think you should stay behind me, just to make sure it's safe, Yumi-ssi."

I went in front of her, and we slowly walked to the light switch, which was only a few steps away from us.

I flicked open the light, and was startled by Uncle and Auntie,

"SURPRISE!"

Auntie and Uncle had party hats on, and was holding a birthday cake in their hands.

On it were the words, "Happy Birthday, our Yumi~"

Could it be...Yumi-ssi's birthday today?

Yumi-ssi hurriedly ran to Uncle and Auntie's side to hug them, tears were flowing down her eyes.

"Umma! Appa! I knew you wouldn't forget!"

The family hugged each other tightly. Uncle and Auntie were kissing Yumi-ssi's cheeks from both sides.

How could I have not known why Yumi-ssi wanted this day to be special?

"Kyuhyun-ah, come on! Let's eat!" Auntie called out to me as we ate the birthday noodles specially made for Yumi-ssi.

I headed for the door to go home, since Teukie hyung was calling me non-stop already.

Yumi-ssi walked me out of the house.

"Yah, Jung Yumi. I still can't believe you didn't tell me it was your birthday today." I pouted. I am actually very disappointed with myself right now.

"Well, I just didn't think it was necessary. And besides, you still made this a special day for me even when you didn't know it was my birthday." she looked into my eyes and smiled with sincerity.

Aish. Stop making me feel better.

"I feel like a failure as a...best friend." I sighed.

Yumi-ssi held my hand and squeezed it lightly.

"Don't be, Kyuhyun-ssi. You don't know how happy I am today. I'm very thankful to have a friend I can spend my birthday with. And I'm sure it would be the same for my next birthday, and the next, and the next, and for many years to come!" She beamed.

I hugged her tightly and let her presence sink into me.

Me too, Yumi.

I hope it would be the same for the next birthday, and the next, and the next, and for many years after that.

I'm just not too sure if I would be able to stay as your best friend for that long.

I hope I could wait.

Until we celebrate the birthday as something more than just friends,

I'll be sure to stay, my Yumi.
