Chapter 15: Framed

KO One Re-Live

"Mr Ding Xiao Yu, you are under arrest."

"What?" Yu Yan blurted out as the faces of Zhong Ji Yi Ban dropped.
The officers handcuffed Xiao Yu who looked at them in confusion, "What did I do?" he asked.
"What did you do? I'll tell you what you did," one of the officers barked, "You are under suspicion of assaulting Miss Su Jia Li earlier this morning.”

Su Jia Li! Wang Da Dong's mouth opened in shock, remembering that name from Yu Yan's phone call the previous day.
"Xiao Yu would never do such a thing!" Ya Se defended.
"Officer, there must be some sort of misunderstanding here! Xiao Yu is the most behaved student in Zhong Ji Yi Ban!" Tian Xin added.
"Well that's not what the evidence suggests!" the other officer retorted.
"What evidence do you have?" Da Dong spat, "You can't take away any of my classmates without my permission!"

"Ding Xiao Yu's school blazer was found at the scene and the attacker was seen to be wearing it, now tell me young man," the officer turned to Xiao Yu with a hard glare, "Where is your blazer?"
"That's a load of crap!" Da Dong exclaimed.
"I didn't do it," Xiao Yu confessed.
"Then tell me, where is your blazer?" the officer persisted

Wang Da Dong looked at Xiao Yu, knowing that Yu Yan was the last to have his blazer. Doubts about Yu Yan began rising within him and no matter how hard he tried to push them down, they continued to grow.

"I repeat, where is your blazer?" the officer questioned once again.
"Come on Xiao Yu, tell him it's in the washing machine or something! Tell him the truth, that it wasn't you!" Jin Bao San urged, supportively but Xiao Yu's heart pounded. He knew Yu Yan had had it and that it being found at the crime scene had something to do with her. He looked over at Yu Yan, not wanting to tell on her. He didn't want her to get into any trouble. She looked back at him, wondering why he wasn't spilling the truth. She could take the trouble that would come if the blame was shifted to her but why wasn't Xiao Yu saying anything? He was trying to protect her wasn't he? She knew he knew that she had had his blazer and that's why he wasn't saying a word. This idiot. This stupid little fish. She wanted to slap him. Why was he protecting her? There was no need to protect her. They weren't friends. So why? Why was he risking it? He was innocent, she wasn't. Surely it should have been the other way around. But why did it bother her that Xiao Yu was in this situation? Usually she didn't care about what happened to others, she'd be fine with it if someone had taken a hit for her, at least she was okay. But not now, she didn't want Xiao Yu to be wrongly accused.

"Silence just confirms your guilt!" the officer yelled, "I'm going to ask you once again, where is your blazer?"
"I...I don't know." Xiao Yu breathed, looking away, “I… lost it.”

Da Dong and Ya Se's faces fell and they could feel their hearts sink. They had gotten away with so many fights and brawls in the past but this small thing had brought them down?

"Aha!" the officer exclaimed, "You're coming to the station with me, we'll see how you get punished!"
"Get in the car!" the other yelled, pushing him.
"Get your hands off him!" Ya Se yelled, "We won't allow you to take him away!"
"That's right, he's innocent!" Da Dong continued.
Yun Han brought out her truth telling whip, "You won't leave here taking anyone," she spoke coldly.
"Yun Han, stop," Xiao Yu spoke up, "There's no use, everyone just stop. It's okay, I'm sure I'll be let off because I know I'm innocent."
"Innocent? Don't make me laugh, you're all delinquents here and you all have crimes you've committed! Whether or not the law sees them or not, none of you are innocent!" The officer yelled.
"Please Officer, you've made a mistake! He's been framed!" Tian Xin broke out, "Please, let me at least come too!"

"You're all pathetic," Yu Yan spoke coldly; "You let the police do as they please to you, what happened to being a member of Zhong Ji Yi Ban? I thought you losers were fearless and now you give in to the police? Don't make me laugh." she spat.

Zhong Ji Yi Ban sat in their classroom, waiting to hear any news from Tian Xin about Xiao Yu. The police had taken him away along with Tian Xin who had volunteered to go with him.

Wang Da Dong paced back and forth, not knowing what to do. Anger was brewing up inside of him, why did Jiang Yu Yan let him get taken away so easily? Was she the one who framed him? Da Dong trusted her but now he couldn't understand why she didn't speak up. Xiao Yu protected her so he knew something was off about Yu Yan, but why wouldn't he tell the truth? Suddenly, his phone rang and immediately he answered it.

"Hello? Ban Dao? Is Xiao Yu okay?" he asked quickly, feeling on edge.
"Xiao Yu seems to be fine but they've put him in a cell," Tian Xin replied, "This is really outrageous, this whole thing makes me angry. That blazer indeed belongs to Xiao Yu but I'm 100% sure that he's not the culprit, how can the police just go off on just this?"
"What?! They locked him up?" Da Dong clenched his fist, how could they lock up an innocent person?
"Don't worry for now Da Dong, he's only in there for a day for questioning. If he's found to be innocent, he'll be free to go but if he's found guilty..." Tian Xin sighed.
"Why do you say it like that? Of course Xiao Yu's innocent!" Da Dong replied.
"I know he is Da Dong, but..." the form tutor trailed off, "but... he refuses to speak."
Yu Yan... He's protecting her again! Why's he going through such lengths to protect someone like her? Why? Da Dong's anger began to rise.

Ya Se put a hand on his shoulder, "Egomaniac, ask how much it would cost to bribe his innocence. I can get money from my dad."
"I'm afraid the price to bribe his innocence is extremely high," she explained, "Because he's a member of Zhong Ji Yi Ban and is labelled as a delinquent, they won't let him off so easily so they've increased the sum of money."
Ya Se cursed under his breath.
"I'll call you back later, Da Dong."

Da Dong sighed as he slipped his phone into his pocket, before turning to Yu Yan, "Why didn't you say anything?" he asked her.
"What does she have to do with it?" Ya Se asked.
"You were the last person to have his blazer so why didn't you speak up for him?!" Da Dong yelled, trying to contain his anger.
"He has a mouth doesn't he? Why should I speak for him?" Yu Yan replied.
"But you know he's innocent!" Da Dong barked, "Do you have no heart? How could you let that happen!"
"Am I the dimension flow? Do I decide the course of events?" Yu Yan questioned, "If you want to blame me, go ahead but it won't hurt me."
"Egomaniac, calm down," Ya Se told him, "There's no point in getting worked up about it all."
Da Dong breathed heavily, trying to calm himself down.

"There's something wrong with you, Jiang Yu Yan!" Jin Bao San exclaimed, "If you had his blazer last then doesn't that mean you framed him? That you're the true attacker?!"
"Be quiet Jin Bao San!" Wang Ya Se shouted, "You're making things worse!"
"But it's true! Dong Ge, you know it too!" Jin Bao San replied, "Jiang Yu Yan is the one who attacked Classmates Liang Zhi and Xia Ba!"
"And s-she's not really blind!" Da La stuttered.

Silence fell upon the classroom.

"Jin Bao San, wait till I get my hands on you!" Da Dong hissed, "There's no evidence to prove any of that!"
Yu Yan laughed, "Now that's funny! You idiots think I'm the attacker?"
"Well I do! You're that type of person!" Tao Zi exclaimed.
"Sure if that helps you sleep at night," Yu Yan answered, entertained.
"You're a traitor Jiang Yu Yan!" Linda exclaimed.
"Go away and leave Zhong Ji Yi Ban!" Fu Tou added.

"Shakespeare said: 'There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.'" Ya Se proclaimed with classical music playing in the background. "We shouldn't be quick to doubt each other. No one's a traitor; everyone's innocent until proven guilty! You can’t just judge others from a single story or in your eyes they will become labelled by that story."

"I don't need your fancy words to defend me," Yu Yan replied, "Clearly you guys don't trust me and that's absolutely fine with me. But you're hypocrites. I remember that Little Fish said you guys don't want internal conflict but here you are starting one now when you should be focussing on saving him and not on trying to dig something out of me."

Wang Da Dong wanted to ask her about Su Jia Li but decided against it, now wasn't the right time. "You don't have to explain the other things but can you prove you're really blind?" he asked.
"Why should I have to prove anything to you?" she spat annoyed, touching her eyes, "You losers don't have a good memory do you? I told you my eyes were fake." She started fiddling around with her eyes and then brought them both out and held them out on her palm. The two glass spheres that sat in her palm glistened under the classroom lights."See? Artificial. If you still think I can see even with these you need some help because you're stupid as hell."

The class looked at Yu Yan’s empty eye sockets and squirmed at the empty holes that had once housed her real eyes.

The girl who Jin Bao San had met the other day walked into a dark room late in the night. She approached Jiang Yu Yan with a yellow lollipop in and a red one in her hand. "Lollipop?" she asked, holding it out towards her.
"Yu Ting," Yu Yan sighed, "You know father doesn't allow me to have sweets."
"But you look a bit bothered today, I just wanted to cheer you up, Yan Yan Jie." [A/N: 'Yan Yan' is just a nickname Yu Ting uses to address Yu Yan] Yu Ting answered, sitting down next to Yu Yan.
"What would I be bothered about?" Yu Yan asked, "You don't need to worry about me, I'm completely fine."
"Maybe something happened at school?" Yu Ting guessed.
"And what would that be?" Yu Yan replied as she thought deeply.
"I don't know, you tell me." Yu Ting responded with a shrug.

"Go get me a bagel." Yu Yan suddenly ordered.
"A bagel?"
Yu Yan nodded slowly, "Yes, a bagel. Do you not have ears?"
Yu Ting tilted her head, "I'm deaf remember?"
Yu Yan looked at her sister with a smile, "Oh right. Can you not read my lips?"
Yu Ting giggled, "What would you need that for? Your lunch for tomorrow is already packed and father is against late night snacks."
"Stop asking questions, just do what I say." Yu Yan then got up to leave.
