~Author’s Point of View~
Since Friday, Yoonsan had been very distracted, messing up easily with his work. The news Junhyuk told him had been on his mind and it didn’t help that he wouldn’t be seeing Eunjung until Monday. Even on Monday, he was distracted. It actually seemed like he was more distracted than on Saturday and Sunday. His personal assistant told him it was because he was nervous about officially meeting Eunjung. He waved off the idea, but knew that was more than likely it. Their first meeting was botched and he worried that Eunjung had a bad first impression of him since he was the one she would be marrying.
“Yoonsan, that’s the eighth circle you drew. What are you even trying to do?” Jung Nayoung, Yoonsan’s assistant, sighed. Yoonsan looked at what he had been doing, confused about the different shapes and scribbles. He had been designing a building for his and Mr. Kim’s future project together.
“Uhm…a building?” Yoonsan sheepishly said. Nayoung chuckled softly.
“Well, if you can build that exactly, I give you props.” Nayoung noticed the time.
“Oh, shouldn’t you be heading home now?” Yoonsan gave her a confused stare, thinking it was early afternoon but when he looked at the clock, he let out a curse, jumping up from his desk. He hurriedly shoved things into his messenger bag.
“Thanks Nayoung. You’re free for the rest of the day!” Yoonsan called out as he ran out of his office.
Yoonsan got home, letting out a string of curses when Mr. Shin told him that his mother had been there when he brought Eunjung.
“How was it? Did she say anything she shouldn’t have?” Yoonsan worriedly asked.
Mr. Shin shook his head. “I’m not sure San. I was shooed away by her.” Yoonsan let out a heavy sigh.
“But Miss Eunjung seemed fine after. Sooyoung has just finished with dinner, if you want to go and sit.” Mr. Shin told him, taking Yoonsan’s coat and messenger bag, handing it to a maid who went to place it in his room.
“Thank you, uncle Shin. Would Eunjung be eating with me?” Yoonsan shyly asked. Mr. Shin laughed at the nervousness that emitted from him.
“Yes, San, she will. Loosen up will you. She’s a very nice girl. I doubt she’ll bite.” Mr. Shin clapped Yoonsan on the back.
Mr. Shin had worked for Yoonsan’s family since Yoonsan was a toddler. Yoonsan saw him as a second father but fondly called him uncle. Mr. Shin was going to be fired by Yoonsan’s parents once Yoonsan moved out but Yoonsan hired him, just so he could have him around and help Eunjung.
Yoonsan walked into the kitchen, greeting Sooyoung as he passed.
“Did Nayoung behave?” She asked him. Yoonsan chuckled, nodding his head. Sooyoung smiled, handing a plate to a maid so they could put it on the table. “Good. Let me know if she ever gives you a hard time so I can prepare a punishment dish in time.” Yoonsan grinned, nodding his head before going to the table.
Yoonsan nervously messed with the silverware and his cup, constantly looking at the French doors, watching for Eunjung. When she appeared, Yoonsan stood up quickly to greet her but smacked his knees into the table, sending him back down to the chair. A maid that had been setting Eunjung’s place jumped in shock from the noise.
“Master Yoon, are you okay?” Yoonsan bite the insides of his cheek, letting out a groan. He nodded his head, rubbing his knees.
“A-are you sure you’re okay?” Yoonsan snapped his head up, staring directly at Eunjung who was standing next to him, concern evident on her face. Yoonsan immediately stood up again, catching Eunjung by surprise.
“It’s nice to meet you again, Kim Eunjung.” Yoonsan tried to come off as calm and cool as possible, but stumbled and sped through his greeting, blinking more rapidly than usual.
“It’s nice to meet you again, Yoon San.” Eunjung smiled a small smile, bowing slightly.
“Uhm, care to sit?” Yoonsan wondered, gesturing with his arm to the table that was now set. Eunjung nodded. She moved to pull out her own chair but Yoonsan beat her to it.
“Uh, thank you.” Eunjung sat down, Yoonsan pushing her chair in as well before moving to sit down.
Their dinner was a bit awkward. Neither of them were sure of what to say to the other. Yoonsan would sneak glances at Eunjung, watching her eat. He took notice of how tense she looked and was about to tell her to relax when a phone went off.
“Go best friend that’s my best friend that’s my best friend! Yaaas! You better fu-“ Eunjung quickly answered her phone, sending an apologetic look to Yoonsan who was trying not to laugh at the ringtone.
“Yah, Edward!” Yoonsan froze at the familiar name, trying to make it seem like he wasn’t listening.
“I know, I forgot, I’m sorry…no, everything is fine…heavy sigh yes Edward, I promise…okay, sounds good…I’ll try, okay. I don’t know what my mother has planned…okay, see you tomorrow…bye.” Yoonsan quickly went back to eating.
“I’m sorry about that. I shouldn’t have brought my phone with me to the table.” Yoonsan waved away her apology.
“It’s fine. I can thank that ringtone for breaking the ice.” Eunjung coughed, covering a giggle.
“So, Edward is a…boyfriend?” Eunjung’s eyes widened at the mention, looking at Yoonsan like he was crazy.
“Boyfriend? No, no. Edward is a good friend.” Yoonsan was curious of how quick she denied him being a boyfriend but didn’t have a chance to find out more because this time, his phone rang. He let out a sigh, seeing that it was his dad.
“I have to take this.” Eunjung nodded her head, putting her attention back to her food.
Yoonsan knew the phone call was his dad asking him about the building design and it ended with Yoonsan having to pull an all-nighter basically to have the design done by tomorrow for a meeting.
“I’m sorry, Eunjung, but I’m going to have to finish my food in the office. I’ll probably be in there the rest of the evening.” Yoonsan seemed genuinely apologetic to Eunjung who assured him that it was fine.
“I have studying and homework I need to do anyways.” Yoonsan bowed to her, picking up his plate and leaving to his office.
Eunjung released a breath that she hadn’t realized she was holding, staring at Yoonsan’s retreating figure. Maybe he wasn’t like she thought he would be, but she could never be too safe.
~Eunjung’s Point of View~
Once Yoonsan left, I grabbed my plate and made my way back to my room. I always hated to eat alone so I usually ate in my room while I did work for school. I got settled at the desk in my room, plate out of the way of my textbooks and laptop. It didn’t take me more than an hour and a half to get done with the homework and studying since there hadn’t been much to begin with but I didn’t want Yoonsan feeling bad about having to finish in his office. It seemed like he genuinely wanted to eat dinner with me since it was our first meal as an engaged couple. Speaking of Yoonsan, I needed to see if he was okay with me continuing school.
I worked up the courage to stop by his office after leaving my plate in the kitchen. I planned to walk in, a speech that I went over continuously in my head during the walk from the kitchen, to his office. If he didn’t allow me to continue school, I planned to demand him to let me continue, ready to stay as long as I needed to.
“Yoonsan, we live in the 21st century and as a woman of this century, I should be allowed to continue my education and become a contributing citizen to our society. I’m not asking for much, but to be allowed to finish high school and even go to college.” I muttered under my breath. But, as soon as I got to the closed door of the office, I froze.
“Maybe I’ll ask him later.” I told myself before running back to my room, not wanting him to know that I was there.
