I frowned when I passed by another flyer about a dog that needed a home. I’ve been seeing it for the past few weeks and always took a picture of it so I can send it to Yoonsan. The first time I saw the flyer, I had taken a picture of it and sent it to Yoonsan. He immediately replied with “What are you implying, jagi?” I only sent him a teary eyed faced emoji with a praying hands emoji. It took him some time to reply but he sent me a message saying that cats were easier. I figured he wanted Rani’s opinion of this and she probably told him that since she has a cat herself. I asked him if we could get both a cat and the puppy on the flyer and he didn’t reply after that. Ever since then, I’m sending him a message of the same flyer but he always says no. I’m sad though since the puppy is really cute and I’ve been wanting a dog for awhile.

“Hey, I always see you taking pictures of the flyer. Are you interested in getting the dog?” I looked over and saw a girl holding the other flyers that had been hung around.

“Oh, uh, kind of. It’s just that my husband says no and I don’t want to get it without him agreeing.” I couldn’t stop the pout that I knew was on my face.

“Aw, that . Yeah, I’ve been trying to find him a home since I’m moving in with my boyfriend but he’s super allergic to dogs. And he’s a good dog too. He’s house broken, trained, real obedient. He’s a sweet dog but I can’t keep him anymore. My last resort was sending him to the pound but, you know how it is at the pound.” I sighed and nodded my head. If the dog isn’t adopted with a certain amount of time, he’ll be put down.

“And Doberman Pinscher’s are hard to adopt out too.” I added on. That was another reason I wanted the dog.

“I’m Alexa, by the way.” The girl stuck her hand out to me.

“I’m Eunjung. Nice to meet you.” I smiled as I shook her hand.

“You too. But yeah, I’m sad I won’t be able to find him a good home.”  Alexa sighed.

“Me too. I would’ve loved him. He looks like a real sweet dog.” I looked at the picture where the dog was lying down and had his tongue out. It looked like he was smiling.

“He really is. Real good with people but he can be protective. You wouldn’t have had to train him much. I even taught him how to play dead and all this other cool stuff.” Alexa seemed proud and I would be too.

“What’s his name, by the way?”

“Mushu.” Alexa grinned. I loved the Mulan reference. “Well, it was good talking to you but I need to take these flyers down before my next class. It was the last day I could keep them up.” Alexa reached over and took the flyer off the bulletin board. We bid each other goodbye and then I was heading to my last class.

When I was done, I walked off campus with Joy until we got to one of the parking lots on campus and we went our separate ways. Joy drives and always offered me a ride but since I was only live about ten minutes away, I always declined so I could walk. I only agree when the weather was bad because she lived in the opposite direction of my house so I didn’t want her going out of the way but even then, that was only once because most of the time, Yoonsan picks me up when the weather is ugly.

“Eunjung!” Maybe I should’ve taken Joy up on her offer today. I decided to keep walking and act like I didn’t hear Keith. I went as far as putting my phone up to my ear and pretend to be talking to someone.

“Eunjung, wait up!” I sped my walk up a bit more but as discreetly as possible too.

“Eunjung!” Nope, I don’t hear you.

“Eun-“ “Jagiya!” Oh thank the lord! Yoonsan jogged to meet me halfway and pulled me into a hug.

“Babe, what are you doing here?” I grinned up at him, happy he was here.

“I have to pick up a package and I might need some help.” Yoonsan informed me. I noticed he kept glancing above my head though and when he did, his gaze would harden and I think I knew why.

“Oh, really? Okay, let’s go.” I slipped my hand into his and pulled him towards his car. I didn’t even look back to look at Keith. I felt a little bad about having ignored him but not too bad since I always got a weird gut feeling around him.

We were driving for a while before Yoonsan stopped infront of an apartment complex. I was confused as to why we stopped here since I figured it would be a warehouse or something that the package was at but I guess not. I was beginning to wonder what it was. Better yet, why did he have me to help him when he has stronger friends to help him. Were they all busy?

“Jagiya, let’s go.” Yoonsan held his arm out for me to hold onto which I did, allowing him to lead the way. We took an elevator to get to the needed floor and the entire time, Yoonsan was playing with his phone but only using one hand so I could continue to hold his arm. He then pointed his phone at me with a grin.

“Jagiya, say hi.” I scrunched up my nose and put a hand up to cover my face.

“Yah! I don’t have any makeup on! I look a mess.”

“Shut up, no you don’t.” Yoonsan snickered.

“Why do you even have the camera going? Do you plan on making me carry whatever it is? Are you going to record my struggle?!” I put my hand down so I could pull it back in a fist and hit him.

“Ow! Why are you so aggressive? You’ve been hanging out with Rani too much.” I laughed this time just as the elevator stopped on the floor we needed to go to.

“Don’t be a wimp.” I allowed Yoonsan to lead the way but he didn’t even put his phone away and continued to record our walk. What was he even doing?

“Yah, San, what are you doing?”

“Oh, San. Am I in trouble?” I only called him San when I got annoyed or angry at him which was pretty rare.

“Yes.” I deadpanned. Yoonsan just laughed, shaking his head. We stopped in front of a door and asked me to knock since his hands were ‘full’.

“Just put the camera down, dummy.” I grumbled but knocked anyways.

“Oh, you guys are here! Awesome!”

“Alexa? What are you...Yoonsan, what’s going on?” Yoonsan shrugged but kept his phone up.

“Come in, come in.” Alexa waved us in and I allowed Yoonsan to push me into the apartment. I was still trying to figure out everything.

“Walk, jagi. Don’t you know how to use your feet?” I shot my arm back so that I ended up elbowing Yoonsan in the gut. I grinned when I heard him go ‘oomph’.

“Mushu, come say hi.” Wait a minute.

The Doberman pinscher that I’ve seen so many times on the flyer came out from a room and immediately came to greet us. I grinned and bent down to pet Mushu. He happily rolled onto his stomach so I could give him a belly rub which I did.

“Yoonsan, are we-“ I looked up and saw him smile from behind his camera and nod his head. I couldn’t help the happy tears that began to pool in my eyes as I looked down at Mushu who was still enjoying the belly rub.

“I’m so happy Mushu will have a good home. Your husband called me a few days ago about wanting to adopt Mushu. He didn’t want me to say anything though since he wanted to surprise you.” Alexa had sat down next to me so she could pet Mushu as well.

“Happy early Christmas, Eunjung.” I reached over and lightly punched Yoonsan on the leg.

“You jerk, making me cry.” I sniffled but couldn’t stop the smile.

Later, when we had brought Mushu home, I didn’t want to leave Mushu’s side. Mushu instantly made himself at home and got comfy on his bed that Alexa had given us. I had placed it right next to the couch so he could lie there when one of us was in the living room but I knew I would end up bringing him onto the couch. Yoonsan and I took him out onto a walk together so we could get Mushu used to the area. Yoonsan had sent the video to everyone and Rani instantly replied with “We’re all going to die” and right after that “Thanks a lot, now Angie wants a ing dog.” I had no regrets though.

I was taking a bath, trying to relax from my first final. It had been easy and I felt good about it but it doesn’t mean I wasn’t stressing. Doesn’t help that my last four finals were going to be the day after tomorrow and only a few minutes between each one.

“Ugh, school is tiring.” I groaned, leaning my head back. I sat up straight though when I heard the door handle opening. I grinned when I saw the door open slightly and Mushu come in. Alexa had told us that she’s trained him to open unlocked doors and I found that extremely amusing. Yoonsan though, hates it because we saw it happen a few days after having gotten Mushu. Yoonsan and I had been doing a rather intimate activity when Mushu came in. I ended up laughing so hard while Yoonsan sent Mushu to his bed in the living room but the moment had been ruined since I kept laughing.

“Mushu, what are you doing buddy? Hungry?” I reached over and scratched Mushu behind the ear. He stood next to the tub and looked like he was contemplating something. I grabbed my phone and took video, talking to him. I gasped though when I he began to get into the tub and continued to take video, laughing. I placed my phone on the toilet seat and leaned over to kiss Mushu on his nose after saving the video and sending it to everyone.

“Babe! Come see this!” I called out for Yoonsan, continuing to pet Mushu who seemed to be enjoying the tub and water. I took this as a sign that when we give him baths, it’ll be easy.

“What’s wro-“ I looked at Yoonsan with a grin.

“Babe, he got into the bathtub with me! Get my phone and look at the video, it’s so cute!” I exclaimed, scratching Mushu behind both ears. Yoonsan merely sighed before walking away.

Author’s Point of View

Yoonsan was taking a shower, still trying to wake himself up. He hated getting up the days he had to go and work and wished he could just stay in bed all day but knew that he had to get money to support him and Eunjung and now Mushu. His mom was helping them and sending them money but Yoonsan wanted to be a man and be the one to earn money while Eunjung was going to school. Not that he didn’t appreciate his mom’s help but he like the satisfying feeling he got when he received his paycheck from his architect job or a paycheck after his performances.

Yoonsan jumped when he heard the door open to the bathroom. He called out to Eunjung, think it might be her even though he knew she had her last four finals that day and she was in the middle of taking one of them at that time. Before Yoonsan could look and see what it was, Mushu had pushed the shower curtain just enough for him to poke his head through. He was looking up at Yoonsan, almost as if asking for permission to enter the shower with him.

“Bed.” And with that simple word, Mushu was going to his bed in the living room. Yoonsan closed his eyes, shaking his head. He should’ve just gotten Eunjung a cat.
