Chapter 15
Rain On MeWe had gone to bed really late. The guys didn’t leave till around midnight so yeah, it was late when we went to bed. And then my mother and Mrs. Yoon had come by, early in the morning to take us shopping for later tonight. I allowed my mother to pick out my clothes and basically get me ready for our shopping trip. I was too tired to fight against her. When I was finally ready to go downstairs for breakfast, Yoonsan had come out of his room at the same time. He smiled a tired smile at me and I gave him one back.
“Hey.” He greeted.
“Hi.” We walked downstairs together, too tired to speak anymore.
Downstairs, the maids told us that our mothers were in the dining room. We headed over and saw that breakfast had already been served. We sat down at the table and began to eat.
“Eat well. It’s going to be a hectic day.” My mother simply said. Yoonsan and I nodded our heads, not in the mood to start anything.
After breakfast, we left the house to go shopping. Mrs. Yoon and my mother carpooled here in Mrs. Yoon’s car. My mother sat in the front with her, leaving just Yoonsan and I in the back. As soon as we were in the car, our seatbelts on, I rested my head on the headrest.
“I’m so tired and so not ready for today.” I sighed. Yoonsan chuckled tiredly.
“Tell me about it. I don’t know what’s worse, the shopping or the dinner.” Yoonsan looked over at me, tired smile on his face.
We made small talk on the car ride over to wherever our mothers decided to shop. The conversation was kind of weird and jumped all over the place. I blame it on the lack of sleep. But we were laughing a lot, at the stuff that came out of our mouths. He even did an impersonation of Megatron from the Transformers. I couldn’t stop laughing.
When we arrived to a dress shop, Yoonsan and I got out of the car with a bit more energy. Walking into the dress shop though, all my energy was drained at the sight of all the dresses. It was going to take us forever until my mother finds a dress she approves. Kill me now.
“Mrs. Kim! Mrs. Yoon! It’s so nice to see you.” An overly happy sales attendant came out from the back of the store, greeting my mother and Mrs. Yoon with a hug and kiss on the cheek.
“And this must be Eunjung and Yoonsan. Don’t worry, we’ll find something perfect!” The sales attendant giggled. Sir, it’s too early in the morning to be this happy.
“Come with me, Eunjung. My assistants and I searched the store for some dresses that we felt would look gorgeous on you! And with your complexion and pretty face and girl, your perfect figure, any of these dresses will make all the boys fall for you.” If Edward were here, he would’ve murdered this man over 500 times in his head by now. He kept jostling me every time he got excited and would yell out some words instead of speaking with an indoor voice. Maybe it’s the little sleep that’s making me grumpy.
“Come Yoonsan, your opinion matters too because her dress is going to determine what you wear.” The man grabbed Yoonsan by the arm, dragging him along. This was going to be a long day and it’s not even 10 a.m. yet.
Two hours and what felt like a never ending pile of dresses, we were towards the end of the pile. I thought we would have never gotten to that point. When the sales attendant—I later found out he owned the boutique and designed all the dresses but his name escapes me—had said ‘some dresses’ I expected no more than 20 dresses…it was way more than 20.
“Do you have anything else? None of the other dresses just cut it for her.” Surprisingly, my mother and I agreed that all the dresses I had tried on, weren’t the ones for me. Was it going to be this stressful shopping for my wedding dress?
“We have a few more” Few more my . “And were saving the best for last.”
“Would’ve saved us more time if ‘the best’ were brought out first.” I grumbled. I’m sorry, I get snappy when I’m tired.
“Come with me, Eunjung. I feel like you’re going to really like this next dress.” If I had a dollar for each time he said that these past two hours and turned out to be wrong…I could probably pay for my college tuition. Okay, I’m exaggerating but you get the point. He’s said that a lot and was wrong each time. There wasn’t even one that had me thinking twice about it. I just flat out hated them.
“I have a real good feeling about this one.” I’ll believe it when I see it.
I let his assistants take me out of the dress I was currently in and then put me in the one that they were dead set on me loving. I didn’t even look at my reflection in the mirror that was in the changing room. Not that I didn’t want to—I was extremely curious about what the dress looked like both on me and in general—but because as soon as the dress was zipped, I was dragged out the room to the showcase area. It was a small stage/platform with mirrors curving against the back. There was a couch and some chairs so the family or friends can wait and see.
As soon as I was on the little stage, platform thing, what ever conversation my mother and Mrs. Yoon had been having while waiting for me, stopped as soon as they saw me. They both gaped at me, neither of them speaking.
“Uh…do I look that bad?” I squeaked out, a little scared by their reactions.
“S-San, come here and see.” Mrs. Yoon snapped out of her trance and called over Yoonsan who I guess was trying on suits. My mother decided that if none of the dress picked out worked, then we would decide on what I wore based on Yoonsan’s tuxedo.
Yoonsan came over and it looked like he had been in the middle of changing out of his tux because his tie was hanging loosely and the first few buttons from the white button up were undone. He froze as he saw me, eyes wide.
“Really, is it that bad?” I wondered, looking at the overly happy man and his assistants who had proud smirks on their faces.
“Eunjung, you look…” Yoonsan trailed off, still staring at me. I was getting uncomfortable with all the staring they were doing.
“Incredible.” My mother spoke up. It was my turn to be shocked now.
“Eunjung, why don’t you turn around and see.” I did as Mrs. Yoon said and had to rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing clearly. Who I saw in the mirror, didn’t look like me. Yeah, it was just a dress, but the way the dress made me look, was incredible.
The dress was knee length and the skirt had two layers. The under layer was a silk like material and the top layer was chiffon. The top part of the dress was also two layers. The bottom part stopped a couple inches above my belly button and was a sweetheart neckline. The top part was made of lace and had a high neck. The high neck looked like a choker since it had silver and pink jewels. And around the waist, were more jewels, some making a tear drop design or flower like design. The entire dress was a pearl pink and it made my skin shine, almost sparkle. I felt like a princess.
“Can I…can I get this dress?” I turned around and looked at my mother hopefully but I saw something in her eyes that made me just as surprised as the dress did. I wished it had lasted longer because as soon as I saw it, it was gone within a second.
“You can have whatever dress you want.” Mrs. Yoon spoke for my mother. I smiled before turning back around to admire myself some more. Never had I ever felt this pretty.
“San, try on the gray tuxedo with the light pink tie then go stand with Eunjung.” I heard Mrs. Yoon say to Yoonsan.
“Eunjung, let’s go look for some shoes and maybe some earrings and a purse. You won’t need a necklace.” Mrs. Yoon stood up from the couch and held a hand out to me. I walked towards her, taking her hand and allowed her to help me step off the platform. She led me away to a different part of the store but as we walked away, I saw my mother hadn’t moved from her spot on the couch. She looked like she had been thinking hard about something. Was she okay?
“Hey, I just came to see if you were done.” I looked up and saw Yoonsan poking his head into my room. I smiled and beckoned for him to come in. I had been sitting at my desk, watching videos on Youtube. The makeup artist and hairstylists left nearly half an hour ago. I was dressed and ready for tonight but was just waiting until it was time to leave.
I couldn’t help but notice how good Yoonsan looked in his gray tuxedo with a tie that matched the color of my dress. His hair was combed over, like how it’s usually done for work, but this time, it didn’t look as clean. It looked like it was messed up a little but it looked good. Seeing him fully dressed up, I couldn’t help but blush, remembering how we looked standing together at the dress shop. It didn’t help that when we saw our reflection, Yoonsan leaned down and whispered “I can’t deny how good we look right now.” His usually deep voice, sounded deeper and huskier and woah…it was a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach.
“Is it time for us to leave?” I asked him, closing out the browser and shutting down my laptop.
“Yeah, in a bit. Our parents got a limo for all of us.” Yoonsan told me, looking around my room. I giggled at how curious he looked, like he was seeing everything for the first time which I thought was weird since he had been in here before—yesterday to be exact.
I stood up, making sure my heels were on good before walking towards him. Yoonsan looked over at me before quickly looking away. I tilted my head at this, confused as to why he did that.
“Yoonsan, are you okay?” I tried stepping into his line of vision when Yoonsan quickly looked over at me, shocking me. I quickly stepped back so that our faces weren’t so close.
“I’m sorry.” We both apologized at once.
“I’m fine it’s just…You’re really pretty.” He muttered the last part, rubbing the back of his neck and I noticed his eyes twitching like how they did the first time we met—not the sad excuse of a dinner our parents had, but the time after. I really think that it’s a nervous habit but it makes him look cute and endearing.
I blushed at his compliment. “What, did you think I would look ugly?” I joked, to try and lift this awkwardness.
“No, no, no, no. It’s just…” I laughed at how quickly he tried to correct himself.
“I’m just joking with you. You look very handsome.” I returned his compliment.
“Sir, Miss Eunjung, your parents have arrived.” A maid informed us. We thanked her and Yoonsan offered his arm to me.
“Ready for hell?” I giggled, shaking my head before grabbing onto his arm.
“Wait!” I stopped walking just as we got out to the hallway.
“I need to send a picture to Edward. He’ll kill me if I don’t and I don’t know if I’ll have the chance once we’re there.” Took my phone out of my clutch and pulled Yoonsan back with me to my room. I went to my closet and opened it. There was a full-length mirror inside and knowing Edward, he would want to see how the entire outfit looked.
I noticed Yoonsan standing shyly off towards the side so I quickly pulled him next to me.
“Get in the picture so Edward can see how good we look together.” I smiled at his wide-eyed expression. I went to snapchat, flipping the camera so it was facing the mirror instead of me. I put my hand on Yoonsan’s shoulder, posing. Yoonsan put an arm around me—but I could feel how tense he was which made me feel a little bad—and then I took the picture.
“Waaah, we look like we could be idols.” I showed the picture to Yoonsan who merely chuckled, nodding his head. I sent the picture to Edward and got a reply back immediately. It was a picture of him and Sunny eonni, their eyes both wide and the caption was “Yaaaaaaas!” With clapping hands emojis. I showed it to Yoonsan who laughed.
“Okay, let’s go downstairs before our parents get mad.” Yoonsan told me, offering his arm to me again. I smiled at him, holding onto his arm. I had a feeling that this night wasn’t going to be so bad. With Yoonsan by my side at least, this night seemed bearable.
