Chapter 6
Rain On MeMy drive to my new house wasn’t so bad. Mr. Shin—it was the only name my driver gave me when we met—asked me how my day had been. He asked me what I did at the daycare center. He even asked me about Edward since he waited with me until Mr. Shin arrived. I told him about school, how there had been a pop quiz that I had aced and he actually seemed proud about that. It was our second meeting but already, Mr. Shin was gaining a special place in my heart. When we got to the house, Mr. Shin didn’t let me open my own door since he had said it was part of his job then lead me into the house.
The house—or should I say mansion—was huge. I gaped at the size, wondering how I wouldn’t get lost. I mean, my house—it really was another mansion—was huge but I had lived there my whole life so I knew the layout of the house. This was going to be difficult. Inside—and even the outside—was beautiful, but it wasn’t a home. The rooms looked like they were taken directly from a magazine. It didn’t look lived in, or liked anyone lived here. I felt like I was visiting someone else’s house, instead of seeing the house I would be living in.
“I hope everything is to your liking, Eunjung. We’ve got the best of the best interior designers in here to decorate.” I jumped in shock to see Mrs. Yoon standing at the top of the staircase, looking like she was the one who owned the house.
“It’s beautiful.” But not my style, as if I would tell her that though.
Mrs. Yoon smiled, making her way down the staircase. “Anything for family.” I nodded my head, not sure what to say.
“My son will be here soon. He had to work.” I just nodded my head.
“Let me give you a tour.” Mrs. Yoon lead me around the three story house. She showed me the giant kitchen, stocked with the newest appliances. She showed me the dining room that could fit 20 people. She showed me the living room, the basement that didn’t look like a basement. There was an Olympic sized pool and a gym. On the second floor, it was rooms. She showed me the master bedroom—after assuring me that Yoonsan and I wouldn’t have to sleep there until we’re married. Not even if we’re comfortable with each other yet, it’s when we’re married. She then showed me the other bedrooms, making six in total. There was also the office that she told me Yoonsan will be using, almost like she was hinting that only he would be working.
“And I think you would enjoy this part of the house very much. I know I did when I first saw it.” She lead me to the giant backyard where I felt my breath get taken away.
There were flowers of different kinds, trees, bushes cut to make up different shapes. There was giant oak tree, perfect for a tree house. One of the branches had a bench swing attached. The grass looked perfect and in the distance, I could see a gazebo. There was also a gorgeous fountain with crystal clear water. I knew that I would spend a lot of my time out here.
“It’s, it’s beautiful.” I whispered and for the first time since I’ve met her, I saw a genuine smile on Mrs. Yoon’s face.
“I knew you would.” Maybe she wasn’t as bad as I thought.
After she showed me a few more things of the house, Mrs. Yoon left, saying she was going to meet my mother. I walked her to the door, bowing to her and thanking her for the tour. When she was gone, Mr. Shin had brought out the staff of the house, making introductions. I tried getting them to calling me just Eunjung since Master Kim was weird to me and also the fact that they were all older but they said it would be inappropriate, just calling me Eunjung. In the end, we all agreed that Miss Eunjung would be fine.
“Would you like me to make you something, Miss Eunjung?” The chef asked me. I then realized how hungry I was.
“If it’s not too much of a bother.” I sheepishly said. The chef chuckled, shaking her head.
“No, no. It’s no bother at all. It’s my job after all.” The chef reminded me of a mom. “What would you like to eat?” I thought about it, trying to think of the most simplest thing.
“Miss Eunjung, don’t even try to tell me that you want just a sandwich. I can make a real good sandwich but the first meal I make for you shouldn’t be just a sandwich.” I blushed, knowing that I was going to ask her that.
“Then um…Italian?” The chef smiled, nodding her head.
“Any dish in particular?”
“Surprise me. I’m just in the mood for pasta.” The chef bowed to me, before going to the kitchen to begin cooking.
Once the staff left to go and do…whatever it is that they were doing, I made my way upstairs to my new room. Everything had been unpacked for me, clothes and shoes in my new closet. I had to figure out where everything else went though so that took me a bit of time.
My new room, was the same size as my old one and had the same layout. A walk in closet that would probably be the size of a room in smaller house. But instead of the daybed I had back home, it was a queen sized bed with a black, metal frame. There was also two giant windows on either side—something I didn’t have in my last room. I played around with the remote, figuring out how to draw the curtains, turn on the lights and fan. I’m pretty sure something broke though in the process, just not sure what. There was a bathroom attached to the room as well but I think all the bedrooms had an attached bathroom. The room basically looked like something from a magazine but give me a few days, it’ll looked lived in. I saw the plush Lady I’ve had since I was little. My brother had given it to me for one of my birthday’s and I’ve slept with it every night since. I smiled, petting the head of Lady as if it was a real dog. The Lady and the Tramp was the very first Disney movie I ever saw and has been my favorite of them all. I love all Disney animated movies and Pixar but that one has a special place in my heart.
I grabbed a change of clothes from the dresser, going to the bathroom to take a nice, refreshing shower. By the time I got out and had changed, dinner was ready and Yoonsan had come back from work. I took a deep breath, giving myself a pep talk before following the maid out of my room and to the kitchen where there was a table and chair set for everyday use.
The maid allowed me to walk in first and I got a good look of the guy who would eventually become my husband, whether I liked it or not.
