Chapter 33
Rain On Me“Can you believe that it’s almost September?” Mary exclaimed as my bridesmaids and I relaxed by the pool. I laughed, taking a sip of my iced tea.
“You all seem more excited then I am.” I stated.
“Aren’t you? You and San have been doing so great these past few months. You two make such a cute couple.” Sunny pointed out. I couldn’t help but smile at that.
Yoonsan and I were awkward for a while after the kiss him and I shared. It was a cute awkward though. You know, that awkward people usually are when they first get in a relationship. Well, that’s how Edward described it. After a while, him and I just got used to us being an actual couple. We had talked everything out and I’m not going to lie, I took me some time to fully forgive him. I mean, yeah I’m nice, but I’m not an idiot. He worked really hard though, and still does. We weren’t immune from arguments though. They weren’t big and usually resolved after a few hours of the silent treatment—mainly from him, it was actually cute—but there were still arguments. I’m actually thankful for them though since it makes our relationship feel more real, more genuine. If we had a storybook fairytale relationship where everything was perfect and him and I were perfect, I don’t know if I would enjoy it as much.
“I mean, I guess. Him and I are practically married already. We live in the same house and everything.” I shrugged my shoulders.
“But it’ll be official!” Joan exclaimed. I laughed, enjoying how excited they all seemed.
“It’ll actually be official today. We’re going to register our marriage when he gets back from work.” I smiled a small smile but it got bigger when they all squealed. Even Jina let out a happy noise.
“Aish, I can’t with you all!” I shook my head.
Later, my bridesmaids left just as Yoonsan got back home. He greeted them with a bow as they left. Once they were gone, he closed the door behind them, turning to me with a smile. I giggled, shaking my head before walking into the kitchen.
“Y-yah!” I laughed as I heard Yoonsan run after me. I smirked at Sooyoung eonni who snickered before going back to doing inventory of food in the kitchen. I ignored Yoonsan as I got a snack and glass of water, fighting to keep a straight face when I felt him standing behind me as I worked on peeling my orange.
“Is this payback for making fun of you crying at Wreck it Ralph?”
“No.” I shook my head, still focusing on peeling my orange.
“Yah, Eunjung, I’ll find out. Two can play at this game.” Yoonsan stated. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, sharing a look with Sooyoung eonni who had rolled her eyes as well.
“Okay, I see how it is.” Yoonsan began to walk away but before he was too far, I hit him on the with my foot.
“That, was payback for Wreck it Ralph.” I snickered, popping a piece of orange into my mouth.
“Aish, I can’t with you sometimes.” Yoonsan groaned, but he walked over to me to give me a hug which I happily accepted.
“Aigoo, I should really get a boyfriend.” Sooyoung eonni mumbled, adding more things to the list that need to be bought. Yoonsan stole some of my oranges, one arm still wrapped around me.
“Let me go and change into something that isn’t for work. Our parents should be here soon.” I frowned at the mention of our parents. Mainly because of mine but I still didn’t like being around any of them. Except for Mrs. Yoon. I don’t mind being around her.
“You should change too. I don’t think you’d want to go and register our wedding in a pool side dress. Not that I mind but, I don’t think our parents will like that.” I hit Yoonsan on his arm, stepping away from him.
“I’ll go change in a bit, just let me finish my orange.” I leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Yoonsan took half of my oranges before darting away.
“Now you can go and change quicker.” He called out. That little…
“Ah, young love.” Sooyoung eonni smiled at me. I couldn’t help but blush and look down. You’d think I’d be used to this comments after a couple months but I still get embarrassed.
“Eonni.” I whined, causing her to laugh as she came over to ruffle my hair.
Yoonsan and I had both barely left our respective rooms, dressed to go to city hall just as our parents arrived. I grinned a shy grin when Yoonsan took my hand, intertwining our fingers. He lifted my hand so he could look at my half of our ‘engagement’ ring.
“Ready?” I sighed, nodding my head. Soon, I won’t simply be Kim Eunjung anymore. I’d be Kim Eunjung, wife of Yoon San.
“Aigoo! You two look so cute!” Mrs. Yoon exclaimed, greeting us at the bottom of the stairs to give us a hug. “Let’s go and register the marriage, shall we! After today, I’ll have a daughter-in-law! Aigoo, I’m so excited.” Mrs. Yoon gave me one more hug.
We greeted Mr. Yoon and then my parents and soon, we were on our way to city hall. Yoonsan and I took his car while our parents went in their own cars. Yoonsan drove with one hand so he could hold mine, something he did a lot. He tried getting my to hold his hand when I would drive but I barely got my license and I still wasn’t confident in my driving skills. Yoonsan said I looked like an old lady driving.
“So, Colette’s been trying to contact me.” Yoonsan spoke up after a while of us sitting in silence. Well, he was mainly quiet and I sung along to the radio but we haven’t spoken to each other since we got in the car.
“Really?” I looked over at him. Colette hadn’t appeared since the night Yoonsan and I first kissed. We hadn’t heard anything from her and it was almost like she disappeared. We weren’t even sure if she was in South Korea anymore because she never appeared in any magazines or billboards or things that models usually appear on. It made me wonder if she even was a model.
“She’s been trying since last week.” He glanced over at me before focusing back on the road.
“What does she want?” Yoonsan shrugged his shoulders.
“I haven’t answered any calls, read any of the texts or emails. I just delete everything or let it go to voicemail.” Yoonsan gave my hand a small squeeze.
“Don’t worry, okay. She can’t and won’t do anything. I won’t let her.” Yoonsan assured me. I smiled a small smile but I couldn’t help but worry a little.
We got to city hall and followed our parents into the building. They led us down the corridors until we got to the office we needed to be at. Our parents spoke to the lady behind the desk before coming back with the forms needed. They had everything already taken care of so it was just a matter of Yoonsan and I signing. The registering of our marriage didn’t mean much to our parents though—except Mrs. Yoon, she cheered once we signed the last thing that Yoonsan and I needed to sign—until the actual ceremony happened. The actual ceremony is what everyone saw so until the ceremony, it’s not even like Yoonsan and I are even married but our parents wanted the registration done first so that it was one less thing to worry about.
“Oh, Eunjung, before I forget, we got the ring in today!” My mother and Mrs. Yoon decided to have it custom made, combining all the things they liked from the other rings they saw.
“I wanted to wait till the wedding for you to see it but I’m so excited to show you!” Mrs. Yoon dug through her purse until she pulled out a velvet box. She handed the box over to me and I held it as if it could break. I was worried that with my luck, something bad would happen to it.
I lifted the lid up, Yoonsan standing behind me to look at the ring as well. I nearly gasped at the sight of the ring though. It was so big and flashy. I mean, it was pretty, but, it was so flashy. I felt like my hand would be weighed down by the amount of diamonds on the ring.
“So? What do you think? Don’t you love it!” Mrs. Yoon gushed. Yoonsan and I looked over at her. We shared a look before we both smiled at Mrs. Yoon.
“It’s lovely, Mrs. Yoon. Thank you so much, for everything.” I bowed to her.
“Yah, you and San are married now! Call me Mina, okay.” Mrs. Yoon grinned. I smiled back, finding her smile at the moment contagious.
“Give the ring back, Eunjung. You’ll lose it.” And then my mother had to ruin the mood. I closed the box, handing it back to Mrs-I mean, Mina. That’s going to take some getting used to.
“Well, let’s go. Tomorrow we have to go and pick out your cake.” My mother spoke again. We said our goodbyes once we were outside, in front of city hall then we headed to our cars. Yoonsan held my hand as we walked to our car.
“So, how does it feel to be stuck with me?” I laughed, shaking my head.
“Terrible!” I exclaimed. “My chance to run away is gone.” Yoonsan let go of mine just to flick the side of my head and then grabbing my hand again.
“Aish, so annoying.” He muttered, but I could see him trying hard to not smile.
We got to the car then headed back home. We had a rehearsal dinner in a few weeks and it may not sound like a lot, but the thought of that dinner alone got me stressed out. And I still had to go to orientation and register for college but that sounded more relaxing than this wedding. But, only a few more weeks and soon I’ll be ‘officially’ married to Yoonsan and a college student. I just pray nothing wrong happens within those few weeks.
