Chapter 25
Rain On Me“What?” Did I hear her correctly?
“I want you to call it off. San doesn’t love you, he loves me.” Colette snapped.
Was she joking? Did she really just come to ask me to call off the engagement? She’s obviously never seen a Korean drama or anything because these types of marriages, can’t be called off by me or Yoonsan. Our parents won’t do it. We have no power here. If I could, I would, so Yoonsan could be happy, but I can’t.
“I’m sorry, Colette, but that won’t happen. I really am sorry and-“ She gave me a glare that could rival my mother’s.
“You’re sorry? Is sorry going to make me or San happy? No! Just because this is the only way you could get married, doesn’t mean that you have to make San suffer.” Colette sneered. I felt myself getting angry. Yoonsan was suffering? We both were but why should we focus on that when we can’t change it.
“Seriously? You think I want to get married? If Yoonsan and I could call off this marriage, we would, but we can’t. I have my own dreams, goals that I want to accomplish. But if anything happens to this marriage, all the hard work that I’ve done, will be for nothing because my parents will make sure that I can’t do anything.” I stood up, getting ready to back inside the house and to get someone to get Colette out.
“I really am sorry that you and Yoonsan can’t be together, but neither him nor I can do anything. Our hands are tied so if that’s all you wanted to talk about, you can see yourself out. I have a cake I need to go help finish.” I started walking away when Colette spoke up.
“You don’t want to be on my bad side. I came here, asking nicely. But if you’re going to be like this, I have no choice.” Colette sighed, but a smug smile on her face.
“What do you mean?” I didn’t like that look on her face.
“You’ll see.” And with that, she walked back to the house, bumping me as she did. I stared at her retreating figure, my anger being replaced by worry. What is she going to do?
I walked back into the kitchen, wringing my hands and debating about telling Yoonsan. I know he and I promised to talk to each other but…could I talk to him about this?
“Eonni, what would you do if someone threatened you?” Sooyoung eonni immediately put down the sugar she was measuring.
“Why? Did someone threaten you?” Her tone of voice surprised me a little. She sounded angry but it wasn’t aimed towards me.
“Uhhh…no?” I internally smacked myself for how that came out like a question. Now she knows that something’s wrong.
“Miss Eunjung, what happened with Colette?” I gulped, debating about telling her what happened.
“Uh, she may have uh, demanded that we call off the wedding.” I looked down at my wringing hands.
“You need to tell Yoonsan. I’ve gotten nothing but bad vibes from her.” Sooyoung eonni said.
“Bad vibes? Oooo, never underestimate Sooyoungie when she gets bad vibes.” Nayoung eonni picked a good time to walk in but, Yoonsan also walked in, a perplexed look on his face.
“Are you okay, Yoonsan?” He looked at me as I took a step towards him.
“I’m fine but I just saw Colette leaving just now.”
“Oh, yeah, she came.” I quietly said looking down at my hands. I took a deep breath before looking up at Yoonsan. I grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the kitchen.
“Eunjung, where are we going?” Yoonsan laughed lightly as I lead him into the living room.
“Yoonsan, you know how we promised to talk to each other about anything, you really meant it, right?” Yoonsan laughed, sitting the both of us down on the couch. He ruffled my hair but left his hand there for a few seconds longer after he stopped. I hope he couldn’t see me blushing or hear how hard my heart was beating.
“What do you mean? Of course I meant it.” Yoonsan assured me with a smile. I smiled a small smile but couldn’t find myself to speak up.
“Eunjung, what’s on your mind?” Yoonsan squeezed my shoulder gently.
“Colette came over and we talked.” I watched Yoonsan’s expression for a reaction.
“Oh really? What did you two talk about?” Yoonsan smiled. I guess he thought we hung out like friends.
“Um, the wedding.” I scratched the back of my head, unsure of how I wanted to tell him.
“And what about the wedding?” Yoonsan chuckled. I cleared my throat and bit my bottom lip.
“Eunjung?” I looked up at Yoonsan who had an expectant look on his face.
“She wants us to cancel it.” I quietly said. I looked at Yoonsan who had a blank expression before laughing.
“That’s really funny, Eunjung. But seriously, what did you guys talk about?” Does he seriously think I’m joking?
“Yoonsan, I’m being serious. She came hear, demanding that we call off the wedding. When I told her that we couldn’t, that our hands are tied, she said she’ll just do things the hard way. I’m worried, Yoonsan.” Yoonsan chuckled, shaking his head.
“Eunjung, I’ve known Colette for 8 years. She’d never do anything like that.”
“Yoonsan, please. I know you two are close, but I feel like she’s up to something. Edward and the rest of my bridesmaids have been trying to tell me but-“
“Eunjung, as much as I enjoy your friends company, but they’re just trying to start drama. They have youtube channels after all. They probably need something to talk about on their channel. I can’t believe you’re letting them influence you like that. I thought you were better than that.” Yoonsan rolled his eyes this time and didn’t sound as happy as before. I actually was a little hurt by his last comment.
“Yoonsan, please listen. Colette, she’s been giving me ugly looks ever since I met her. When I bring up the wedding around her, she gets a weird look in her eye. I’ve tried to ignore it and brush it off but her coming here earlier just proved that she doesn’t like me or this marriage.”
“You’re just overreacting. I think you’ve been hanging around our mothers and your friends for too long. I know Colette and if she was upset about anything, she would’ve told me. I thought that when I promised that I was going to honor our marriage, you’d be fine. I didn’t think you’d stoop as low as to make false accusations against Colette.” Yoonsan’s voice raised in volume towards the end and I couldn’t help but flinch. He’s never raised his voice before at me.
“Yoonsan, I’m not making false accusations. I’m telling the truth. Why don’t you believe me?” I pleaded. Yoonsan scoffed.
“Seriously? Your mother has been breathing down your neck about making sure Colette gets that you and I are getting married. You’re just trying to make sure you can go to college. At first, I admired how much you wanted to go to school but I never thought you’d do something like this. You’re as bad as your mother.” Yoonsan walked away, leaving me on the couch. I don’t know what’s worse, him not believing me or him comparing me to my mother. Either way, I felt my heart crack at his words and I hated it.
I furiously wiped away the tears that began to escape, not wanting to cry. I told a passing maid to tell Sooyoung eonni that I wasn’t feeling well and wouldn’t be able to help her finish the cake before hurrying to my room. I knew if Sooyoung eonni saw me now, she’d want answers and if she got mad at Yoonsan like I knew she would, Yoonsan would get even more upset and claim that I was trying to turn everyone against Colette with lies. I don’t think I could handle him being more upset at me.
“Eunjung, not that I don’t love seeing you, but why are you here?” I smiled at Edward who was putting away some toys. After an hour of crying, I needed to get out. I came to the only other place I felt secure at. The daycare.
“I missed the place. And you. I felt like it’s been forever since we’ve hung out.” I laughed, hoping he would buy it. He scoffed. I can’t get anything past him.
“I could see those tear streaks from a mile away. Help me so we can get out of here faster then we can go to my house. I doubt you’d want anyone to see how much of a mess you are in.” I couldn’t help but smile—a real smile—and shake my head. I went to go and help Edward clean the rest of the playroom and we were done in no time. We took a taxi back to his place and as soon as Edward was changed and comfortable—I had just plopped onto his bed—was when he made me talk.
“Okay, who made you cry and do I have permission to kick their ?” I laughed, hugging one of his pillows close to me.
“As if you could kick someone’s .” I joked. He pushed my head back by my forehead.
“You’re lucky I like you.” I giggled, shaking my head.
“But seriously though, what’s wrong? Is your mom giving you a hard time? Your brother?” I shook my head.
“Surprisingly, no. Not this time at least.” I sighed before continuing. “Colette came over. She wanted to talk to me.”
“What did this say?”
“She’s not a-“ I stopped myself. Why should I defend her now that I know her true colors? “Don’t call her a .” I wanted to smack myself. I’m way too nice.
I explained to Edward what happened between Colette and I and then I went and told him about what happened when I tried to tell Yoonsan. He wasn’t very happy.
“Oh hell no! No, I’m going over there right now. Who the hell does he think he is?! ‘I can’t believe you’re letting them influence you.’ ‘You’re better than that.’ ‘You’re just like your mother.’ Uh, , no. We’re not influencing you, like, what the ? And you’re not like your witch of a mother. He’s stupid for not believing you like, what the ?! And who the does that French think she is?! Acting like she can go to YOUR house, demanding that you call off YOUR wedding like she’s some big .” I stayed silent during his rant, but giggled at his impersonation of Yoonsan. I didn’t feel sad or angry anymore, just, disappointed. But, I was thankful for Edward.
A/N Heehee...I regret nothing XD
