Chapter 53
Rain On MeA/N If you haven't read chapter 50, 51, and 52, read those before continuing
I guess today was going to be a bad day for Yoonsan and I. I saw it coming though since last night. When we returned home from dinner, there was an envelope taped to our door. Yoonsan snatched it off with one hand while he held me close with his other arm. When he opened it, there was only a picture of us from dinner and on the back of the note was the exact same message that was on the sign outside of our apartment window. Yoonsan insisted that we called Angie and Rani but I was already so done with everything. I told him that we can just tell them in the morning which caused an argument between us to break out. We went to bed angry and I guess that anger carried on into the morning.
“Where are you going?” Yoonsan sharply asked when I was putting my sneakers on.
“Taking Mushu on his walk.” I simply answered.
“I haven’t even called Rani or Angie to let them know about the picture. Can’t you wait?” Yoonsan sounded annoyed but I just rolled my eyes.
“Do you want to clean up the mess he makes when he goes inside or tears up house because he didn’t get his needed exercise? Go right ahead!” I sarcastically said with a smile before getting Mushu’s leash and harness off the hook we keep it on.
“Why are you being so stubborn?!” Yoonsan exclaimed before snatching the harness from me.
“Because this is stupid and annoying! I don’t want to be cooped in here anymore because some psychos don’t know how to deal with not getting their way! I’m taking Mushu on his walk and that’s final.” I said through clenched teeth, snatching the harness back before putting it on Mushu who had been sitting between us this whole time.
“Well hate to break it to you but life isn’t fair and you’re just going to have to get used to it until Colette and Keith are put behind bars.” Yoonsan’s voice had risen a little.
“No! I’m not. You can call Rani and Angie about the picture but I’m taking Mushu for his walk.” And with that I walked out of the apartment with Mushu and slammed the door behind me, forgetting for a moment that we had neighbors. I walked out of the building and turned right, going the path I always take for Mushu’s walks. It was a good walk and if I went far enough, there was a dog park that Mushu liked.
“Was I overreacting, Mushu? I mean, I know San is just acting like that because he’s scared.” Mushu glanced back at me as we jogged. It helped tire him out and gave me exercise.
“But at the same time, we shouldn’t let those crazy people run our lives like that. We shouldn’t live in fear because that’s not even living. We’re just going through the motions.” I sighed as we got to a crosswalk, the red hand telling us it wasn’t our turn to go yet.
“If only Edward was here. He was always nice to vent to.” I sighed, suddenly missing South Korea.
“You know Mushu, I think I took everything I had for granted. I thought I didn’t but moving here opened my eyes. I know here I have a bigger chance of pursuing my dreams and I never would’ve gotten you if we didn’t move here but it’s just not the same.” We walked across the street before jogging. Mushu would stop to sniff something every now and then before continuing to jog. It always took a while before he went to the bathroom.
“I think you would like it in South Korea, Mushu. Especially our old home. There was a huge yard that you could run around in and the house was really big too. Nayoung eonni would’ve loved you too. She always wanted to get a big dog but Sooyoung eonni kept saying no because their apartment didn’t allow pets.” I couldn’t help but smile at the memories and how many times I would hear Nayoung eonni whining to Sooyoung eonni about wanting a dog.
“Mr. Shin would probably like you too. He gives me that vibe. Edward probably would’ve been a bit more apprehensive but he would come around.” I assured Mushu. I could see the park and knew Mushu was itching to get off the leash and run around.
“Maybe I can convice Yoonsan to take a trip this summer. I know Mina misses us a lot. She says you’re adorable.” Mushu glanced back at me and it seemed like he was grinning. “She really liked that card that we sent to her. You were so handsome with the elf hat on.” I cooed.
A few weeks ago, I made Yoonsan take a picture for a holiday greetings card so we could send to our friends and his mom back in South Korea. We had a Christmas tree up and decorated and Angie has a friend who has her own photography business. Yoonsan and I wore our headbands from the fair and Mushu had a elf hat on. The three of us posed in front of the tree but Yoonsan surprised me with a kiss on the cheek right before the picture was taken. That was the picture that we used for the card and everyone loved it. Mina said she was going to carry it everywhere and show it off to everyone.
“Mushu, you want to play fetch when we get to the park?” Mushu picked up speed a little so we were running instead of jogging. I knew he’d recognize the word ‘fetch’.
Just as we got to the crosswalk that lead to the park, I got a text. I stopped walking so I could see who it was when a car pulled up in front of us. I only glanced before going back to putting my password in since we were by a stop sign so no duh a car would be there. I looked up though when I heard a door open but before I could react, I was pulled into the car. I let out a scream and heard Mushu try to attack who grabbed me but before I knew it, I lost my grip on Mushu’s leash and I was pulled completely into the car.
“Go! Forget the dog, we got the girl!” The man who grabbed me said. I tried to fight out of his grip but this man was strong.
“But, he said to shoot the dog.” Another man said, I presumed the driver.
“No! Don’t shoot him!” I begged only to have a hand placed over my mouth. I was trying hard to not sob and to be strong and to fight my way out of this but it was getting hard to breath and focus.
“Trent, just drive, damnit!” I tried to focus on the sound of Mushu barking and the car moving because Mushu kept jumping. I saw a window roll down and saw the driver’s hand raise, gun in his hand.
“Stop!” I tried to scream out when I heard the gun fire and Mushu whimper before the window rolled up and the driver sped off. I began to sob. It’s my fault they killed Mushu and it’s my fault I’m even in this mess. I didn’t even tell Yoonsan that I loved him this morning because I was angry and now I don’t know if I’ll see him again.
Author’s Point of View
Yoonsan sat on the couch, phone between his hands as he waited for Eunjung to reply to his text. He felt bad about the argument from last night and this morning and just didn’t want to fight anymore. He usually didn’t apologize first but this time, he felt like he should. Yoonsan tried to see things from Eunjung’s point of view since she’s the one being targeted and he was beginning to understand Eunjung’s frustration. He wished she saw things from his perspective and understood why he was getting worked up but he knew that majority of the time, she tried hard to try to see things from both their sides for them.
“Yah, is she seriously still mad at me?” Yoonsan questioned as he saw that it’s been a bit of time since Eunjung replied. She would’ve at least responded with a ‘K’ to his long text because she knew it annoyed him when people did that.
“This girl, I swear.” He decided to just call her. Maybe if he did some aegyo, she’d forgive him.
Yoonsan pressed the little green phone icon next to Eunjung’s name and waited for her to pick up. He was surprised that it went to voicemail.
“Is she really that pissed?!” Yoonsan exclaimed. He decided to just go out to the park and surprise her—even if he got hit—so he changed into some jeans and threw on a shirt before putting on his shoes and grabbing his coat and car keys.
As Yoonsan was driving to the park, he saw something that made him slam on the brakes, ignoring the horns blaring at him from the cars behind him. He got out of the car, waving off the yells that he got from other drivers and sprinted to the sidewalk.
“Mushu!” Said dog stopped running and turned to look at Yoonsan before sprinting to him. Yoonsan knealt down and basically took Mushu in with open arms. Yoonsan took notice of the leash still attached to his harness and wondered where Eunjung was.
“Mushu, where’s Eunjung?” Mushu merely whimpered and whithered around. Yoonsan looked behind him in the direction that he saw Mushu come from but he didn’t see her. Yoonsan brought Mushu back to his car and Mushu immediately jumped in. Yoonsan got behind the wheel and took off in the direction that Mushu came from. When he got to the dog park that he knew Eunjung took Mushu too, he stopped the car and got out, again, ignoring the blaring car horns. The dog park was small so Yoonsan didn’t have to look much to know that Eunjung wasn’t there. If he had a bad feeling in his gut before, it had spread to his entire body.
“Sir, you can’t park there.” Yoonsan turned and saw a shop owner from across the street was talking to him. Yoonsan ran to him and got his phone
“Did you see this girl here earlier?!” Yoonsan quickly showed him his lockscreen that was a selca of Eunjung with Mushu.
“Uh, I think so. Her and that dog” the shop owner pointed to Mushu who was still in the car. “Stopped at the crosswalk when a car pulled up. I went to the back but heard screaming and then a gun shot and then a car peeling out.” At the sound of this, Yoonsan’s heart went cold.
“AND YOU DIDN’T DO ANYTHING!?” Yoonsan all but screamed at the man. The shop owner didn’t seem too happy to be yelled at.
“Look, it’s not my business what happens as long as my shop isn’t disturbed.” And with that, the shop owner went back inside, leaving Yoonsan behind. Yoonsan was having trouble controlling his breathing as he worked on calming down and not panicking. He had to call Rani or Angie and let them know what happened.
He dialed Rani’s number first, ignoring the fact that it was considered early for said girl.
“This better be a ing emergency, .” Rani grumbled. Yoonsan could hear Junhyuk’s voice in the background but ignored it.
“Eunjung’s missing.” Yoonsan croaked out, feeling the tears begin to roll down his face.
“What the hell do you mean ‘Eunjung’s missing’?! This isn’t funny, San.” Rani exclaimed, sounding more alert.
“She’s gone, Rani! Someone ing took her! She’s gone and I don’t know where she is!” Yoonsan broke down, and began to sob, everything sinking in.
“Okay, calm down. Where are you? I’ll send someone over to pick you up. You need to stay calm though.” Rani said as she left her room. Yoonsan told her where he was before the phone got handed to Junhyuk who tried to keep Yoonsan calm. Junhyuk had no idea what exactly was going on but it seemed serious and he just hoped that everything was okay.
Yoonsan ended up being moved into a little café by a passing old lady who seemed concerned about a sobbing man standing in the middle of the sidewalk. She had gotten Mushu out of the car after some incoherent mumbling from Yoonsan about his car and Mushu. Yoonsan continued to sob as he listened to Junhyuk on the phone and the old lady who tried her best to help as well. The only thing on Yoonsan’s mind was the last thing him and Eunjung did was argue. He hadn’t even told her that he loved her this morning because he had been pissed over an argument that now seemed petty.
