Chapter 18
Rain On MeDouble update. Read Chapter 17 if you haven't yet
The same week I had final exams and the college entry exam, was the same week I had my doctor’s appointment for my headaches. I tried getting it either before or after but they were booked for before and Yoonsan was pushing for an early appointment. He was still scared about something bad being found and really wanted to know for sure soon. I really was touched by this and when I told Edward, he all but squealed. You would’ve thought that I got him tickets to a Monsta X concert.
My appointment was scheduled for a Thursday at 3 meaning I had to finish my college entry exam before then. Mr. Shin had driven me to where I was supposed to take my test but Yoonsan promised to pick me up since he wanted to be with me at the appointment. He had given me a hug before I left, wishing me luck. I had been studying non-stop the week before and this week not only for my final exams at school but the college entry one as well. Junhyuk oppa, Kid Mon oppa, Sungwoon oppa, Hojeong oppa, and Nayoung eonni had texted me either the night before or that morning, wishing me luck on my college entry exam. Edward and some other friends sent me silly snapchats with “good luck” or “hwaiting” as the caption.
“You’ll do great, Miss Eunjung. We all believe in you.” I smiled at Mr. Shin, thanking him before getting out of the car. As I got out of the car, I saw Kangjun getting out of his car as well.
“Valedictorian!” I rolled my eyes but greeted him anyways. He was still dead set on the idea that I was going to be valedictorian.
“You ready to die?” I asked. Kangjun laughed, walking next to me as we walked into the building.
“I’m ready to see my hopes and dreams fail before my eyes.” Kangjun joked. We both laughed and I was going to say something else when my phone notified me of a text.
“Better turn that off before we get inside.” Kangjun warned. I assured him that I would as soon as I read the text.
“Good luck.” My heart swelled as I read the simple message from Moonkyu oppa. I replied with a quick ‘Thank you’ before turning off my phone. With Moonkyu oppa’s luck, I felt better about taking the college entry exam.
I walked out the building, feeling like I haven’t seen the sun in years. The exam drained me but at the same time, I felt free. It was my last exam, I was officially done. All I had left to do was graduate high school and my life begins.
“Eunjung!” I saw Yoonsan standing in front of his car, waving an arm to catch my attention. I waved back before breaking out into a run, feeling energized all of a sudden.
When I got to Yoonsan, I wrapped my arms around his neck in a hug, having to jump a little so I could reach. Yoonsan let out a quick ‘woah’ before wrapping his arms around me, keeping me from falling.
“Uh, are you okay?” Yoonsan awkwardly asked me. I giggled, nodding my head.
“I just feel so happy that I’m finally done!” I cheered, unwrapping my arms and taking a step back. Yoonsan chuckled, ruffling my hair.
“I’m glad. Let’s go to your appointment then get something to eat to celebrate your last test of your high school career.” I grinned, thanking Yoonsan as he opened the car door for me, closing it once I was in the car.
“Let’s go and get this over with, I want food.”
My appointment didn’t take long. A nurse asked me questions about my eating habits, sleeping habits, if I’m drinking enough water, the type of pain I feel, etc. Kind of generic. They ran through the basics of checking my blood pressure, listening to my heartbeat, they even did some eye exams. Once all that was done, they walked Yoonsan and I to another level of the hospital where I would be given an MRI. Yoonsan had an arm wrapped around my shoulders the entire time until he had to leave me in the room with the MRI machine. He went to the room next door with the technician where the MRI would be worked. As soon as everything was done, Yoonsan and I were given the okay to leave.
“It’ll take a few days for the results to come in. We’ll call you.” Yoonsan and I bowed to the technician before leaving.
“So where do you want to eat?” I thought about it for a minute before turning to look at Yoonsan who just started the car.
“Cheeseburger juseyo.” I laughed at his “Yah!”
“Just for that, we’re getting Mexican.” I heard him grumble, causing me to laugh some more. He wasn’t going to take us to a Mexican place, not when cheeseburgers were an option.
“You’re lucky I’m in a good mood or I would’ve seriously chosen Mexican.” Yoonsan muttered, making me laugh even harder. Yoonsan slowly allowed himself to smile, shaking his head.
“Sure, Yoonsan, whatever you say.”
Author’s Point of View
After a lovely and filling lunch—both with food and conversation—Yoonsan and Eunjung were on their way back home. Eunjung happily sung along to the songs coming from the radio. A few months ago, she wouldn’t have been so open about singing out loud, especially in front of Yoonsan. Yoonsan smiled at the memory of when he first found out Eunjung liked to sing and could sing so well.
Yoonsan had a meeting early Saturday morning and had just gotten back home, excited to take a nap for a few hours to makeup for what he had to miss. He was passing by Eunjung’s room when he heard a Sia song coming from her room. He slowed his pace to enjoy the song a bit more, humming along. It wasn’t until the chorus when he noticed the voice singing, wasn’t Sia’s. He stopped humming, trying to figure out who it was that was singing but gave up after a few seconds and decided to just walk in and ask, thinking it was a cover Eunjung was listening to. He stopped though when he saw that it had been Eunjung singing. He moved away from the doorway, hiding by the wall and continued to listen. He was mesmerized by her voice. It wasn’t perfect, but it was the small imperfections that made it perfect to him.
Yoonsan had sat there for who knows how long, listening to Eunjung sing along to song after song. He heard her sing along to songs from American songs, Korean songs—both languages had different genres—and Disney songs.
Yoonsan chuckled, shaking his head. Eunjung had been surprised to walk out of her room only to find Yoonsan sitting outside her room. Yoonsan had been surprised to be caught and was worried this was going to make their friendship—which was barely forming from their acquaintance status—weird and cause them to be awkward around each other again.
“I didn’t know my fiance was a ert. If I did, I would’ve fought against this marriage harder.” Yoonsan had laughed, causing Eunjung to smile. She had extended her hand out to him to help him up.
“In the night when she comes crawling~” Yoonsan was brought back to the present by Eunjung singing—screaming—along to The Weeknd.
“Yah, let him sing by himself. He doesn’t need you harmonizing.” Yoonsan told her. Eunjung merely scoffed.
“Please, he wished he had me harmonizing with him.” Eunjung continued to scream along to The Weeknd.
Yoonsan had a small smile on his face as he drove. Eunjung was different from the other girls who had the same social status as them. Their smiles and laughs were rehearsed, regardless of who they were with. Eunjung laughed and smiled freely, not one to hide how she felt. The other girls only helped others if they felt it would benefit them and their image. Eunjung spends all the free time she can at a small daycare center out of the love she has for kids. The other girls didn’t know the meaning of dedication and perseverance. Eunjung, in his eyes, was the definition of those two words. If he had an ideal type, Eunjung would more than likely be it. The living epitome of it.
