Chapter 24
Rain On MeNearly a month passed and already we had a venue, date, and colors picked out for the wedding. Everything was fine still, between Yoonsan and I. He still spent time with Colette, but it wasn’t like before. I couldn’t fight the jealous feeling I would get every time though. I’d constantly scold myself though when I felt that. I had no right to be jealous, I’m marrying Yoonsan, not her. But also, Yoonsan and I aren’t emotionally attached. We’re not in a relationship. We’re only together because of our parents. I kept reminding myself that when I felt even remotely jealous.
“So, Eunjung, what’s going to happen when you and Yoonsan get married?” Sunny asked me. I had set up a date for my bridal party and I to meet up and just hang out. Mainly because I wanted my two new bridesmaids to get comfortable with Sunny, Joan, and Megan.
“What do you mean?” I asked, taking a sip of my iced coffee.
“Like, you two will obviously go on a honeymoon. I doubt your parents will let you not go. So…will you two, you know?” I tilted my head.
“Uh…how do I answer if I don’t know what you’re asking?”
“Are you two going to have ?” Jina—one of my new bridesmaids—deadpanned, causing me to choke on my coffee. Joan and Mary—another bridesmaid—reached over and patted my back.
“Jina, did you have to be so blunt?” Mary lightly scolded as she handed me my napkins. Jina simply shrugged her shoulders, taking a bite of her red velvet cake.
“I don’t think that’s crossed either of our minds.” I said once I was able to talk.
“Well you guys better start figuring out how you’re going to give them grandkids.” Megan snickered. I threw a waded up napkin at her.
They continued to laugh at my expense and joke about my—because I don’t know about Yoonsan’s, not that I want to though—non-existent life. I ended up laughing with them though since they were only joking to make me feel better which I appreciated. We had deterred from that topic and onto a different one after a few minutes and I had been laughing at a story Mary was telling about her boyfriend when Joan smacked my arm.
“Look who just walked in.” She whispered, pointing to the entrance. It was Colette, but no Yoonsan. He was booked with meetings all day. I was planning to stop by after this with some snacks that I picked up earlier, to help him feel better since work meetings caused him to stress.
“Is that Colette?” Jina wondered, bored expression on her face. But then again, that’s just her face. She always looked bored and uninterested but she’s actually really nice and super sweet. She kind of reminded me of Leo from VIXX.
“Yep, that’s the .” I sighed at Sunny’s comment. I blame Edward.
“She’s not a . She’s actually really nice.” I tried to defend her but, my friends can be stubborn about things. Doesn’t help when Edward is involved.
“I mean…she looks pretty.” Mary tried to help me. Jina looked over at Colette before shrugging her shoulders.
“Eunjung, you said she glared at you when Yoonsan opened the car door for you.” Megan said.
“I know but that could’ve meant anything.” I sighed. Joan, Sunny, and Megan tsked, shaking their heads.
“You can be too nice sometimes, Eunjung.” Joan said, patting my shoulder.
“I know.” I mumbled. Edward reminded me that many, many times. It seemed that Joan, Sunny, or Megan weren’t ready to drop the subject of Colette as they began talking about what I should do to show her that Yoonsan was ‘off the market’. Mary would give her input every now and then too. But, I hardly spoke up since I really didn’t want to discuss this. It made me uncomfortable.
“You should go to Disneyland.” Jina spoke up all of a sudden.
“Huh?” All of us turned to look at her. She was staring out the window, watching the people pass by.
“You and Yoonsan should go to Disneyland for your honeymoon. Or Disneyworld. You like everything Disney, it’d be fun.” Jina looked over at us, bored expression on her face still but when she looked at me, her face softened a little. Did she, did she just change the topic for me?
“Oh! Where are you two going for your honeymoon?” Joan excitedly exclaim. I gave Jina a thankful smile. She ducked her head, the tips of her ears turning pink.
We were discussing different places for the honeymoon when I saw Colette make her way over. She grinned at me, waving and I awkwardly smiled, lifting my hand to wave.
“Ohmygosh, is she coming?” Sunny deadpanned but thankfully, she was whispering.
“Please guys, behave.” I pleaded with them before standing up to greet Colette.
“Hello, Eunjung! I didn’t know you were here! I could hardly recognize you. You look so different when you’re not dressed up.” Colette got me by my forearms, kissing both my cheeks. I was shocked by her actions and comment. Was it a good different or a bad?
“Hi, Colette. How have you been? How’s the modeling?” I decided to brush away the comment, smiling at her.
“I’ve been great! I’m loving South Korea! And the modeling is really fun. I mean, why else would I become one.” Colette laughed and I joined her, but out of courtesy. I didn’t really understand what was so funny.
“And you, Eunjung? How’s the wedding planning?” I noticed her eyes hardening at the mention of the wedding but it was probably my imagination because it was gone in a second.
“I’ve been better. I mean, the planning is actually going by smooth, thanks to the wedding planner but it’s still a bit overwhelming. Speaking of wedding, these are my bridesmaids.” I motioned to the five girls who were still sitting at the table, watching our interaction. Colette smiled and waved to them.
“Hi, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Colette Bellrose.” Colette held her hand out to the closest person which happened to be Megan.
“I’m Megan Bowen.” Megan smiled at her, shaking her head.
“Joan Kim.”
“Sunny Dahye.” Thankfully, they were polite. I introduced Jina and Mary to Colette since their English wasn’t that great.
“Anyways, I need to go. I was only supposed to be gone for a bit. My manager must be going crazy. It was nice meeting you all and good to see you, Eunjung. We should hang out sometime.” Colette kissed my cheeks again before leaving the café. I sat down and watched the others watch her leave. It wasn’t till Colette was out of the café that they turned their attention back to me.
“Okay, what the hell was that?” Megan exclaimed.
“Did you see the look in her eyes when she brought up the wedding?” Sunny added.
“Eunjung, she is after Yoonsan. She’s after him!” Joan clutched my hand.
“You better watch your back, she might get you out of the picture.” Mary clutched my other hand.
“And she practically called you ugly! You look completely different when you’re not dressed up.” Sunny made her voice high pitched and nasally.
“Like, what the heck? She’s obviously jealous of the fact that you look gorgeous with and without makeup.” Megan added.
“Why did she kiss your cheeks? Is that a French thing?” I heard Jina mutter and I couldn’t help but shake my head with a laugh. Well, at least I have some great bridesmaids.
“Eonni, is the batter good?” I tilted the mixing bowl towards Sooyoung eonni who was working on another cake. She looked at the bowl, lifting the whisk out to check the consistency.
“That’s perfect. Now, pour it into this pan and then we can put the two pans into the oven.” I followed Sooyoung eonni’s instructions and poured the batter into one of the round cake pans. I helped her get the two cake pans into the oven just as Yoonsan got home.
“Ooo, what’s that smell?” I smiled at Yoonsan as he walked into the kitchen.
“Eonni and I are baking a cake.” Yoonsan smiled, greeting me with a hug that I happily reciprocated.
“I think I’m getting diabetes over this scene.” I heard Nayoung eonni let out a yelp. Yoonsan and I looked over, his arm still around my shoulders. Sooyoung eonni was glaring at Nayoung eonni who was rubbing her arm.
“Yah, Sooyoungie, that hurt.” Nayoung eonni whined.
“Good! Now you leave those two alone and get me the bowl with the diced fruit from the fridge.” Nayoung eonni saluted Sooyoung eonni before doing what she was told.
“Noona, what’s the occasion?” Yoonsan asked as he took a strawberry from the bowl, popping it into his mouth. His arm having yet to leave my shoulders.
“Actually, I asked her to help me. I always wanted to learn how to bake.” I shyly admitted. Yoonsan rubbed my forearm, smiling at me.
“I’m sure it’ll be great.” He assured me. I tried to ignore how fast my heart was beating at the sight of his smile. I was amazed every time I saw his smile and how his face just always lit up. It always managed to make me feel better by just seeing it.
“Eunjung?” I jumped when a hand waved in front of my face. Yoonsan looked at me with a worried expression on his face. “Are you okay? Is it a headache?” The hand he waved in front of my face, he put it to the side of my head.
“A-ah, yeah. I’m fine. Um, were you saying something?” I squeaked out. Yoonsan pursed his lips, still looking worried.
“Noona was asking if you wanted to help make the frosting.” I turned and saw Sooyoung eonni reprimanding Nayoung eonni for picking at the fruit from the bowl.
“You little , cut it out! There won’t be anymore for the cake.” Sooyoung eonni flicked Nayoung eonni’s forehead.
“Sooyoungie, why don’t you love me?” Nayoung eonni spoke in a baby voice, pouting.
“Ew, eonni, never do that again.” I shook my head, moving to gather the ingredients that Sooyoung eonni had gotten out for the frosting.
Sooyoung eonni was able to get Nayoung eonni out of the kitchen and away from the fruit that had fallen victim to Nayoung eonni’s fingers. Sooyoung eonni and I were singing along to the songs on the radio when a maid came into the kitchen.
“Miss Eunjung, Colette is here.” I gave Sooyoung eonni a confused look, thanking her for the hand towel she handed me so I could wipe my hands.
“Have you told Yoonsan?” I asked the maid. She shook her head.
“No, Miss Eunjung. She asked specifically for you. Should I bring her?” I nodded my head and the maid went to go and get Colette.
“Why is she here?” Sooyoung eonni wondered. I shrugged my shoulders. Her guess was as good as mine. And also, why was she looking for me? Did she really mean it about us hanging out?
“Miss Eunjung.” I thanked the maid and then smiled at Colette.
“Wow, Miss Eunjung. Fancy.” I chuckled, nodding my head.
“Hello, Colette. Not that you’re not welcomed here, feel free to stop by whenever you feel like, but, why are you here?” I hope she isn’t offended. Colette smiled.
“No, it’s fine. I know it’s surprising. I actually wanted to talk to you.” Oh? “Is there somewhere private we can go?” I nodded my head, motioning for her to follow me.
I lead Colette out to the garden, motioning for her to take one of the seats at the little table outside.
“So, what did you want to talk about?” I asked her once the two of us were situated. I bit back a gasp when the nice, friendly smile on Colette’s face was immediately gone, being replaced by an expression that reminded me of the evil queen from Snow White.
“This sad excuse of a wedding.”
