Chapter 22
Rain On Me“Yoonsan and that is here.” What? Yoonsan and Colette were here?
“Edward, she’s not a .”
“I don’t care, she’s trying to move in on your man and…” I began to tune Edward out as a pain in my head began to grow. I shut my eyes, trying to fight it.
“Eunjung? Are you okay?”
“Yeah, just…” I trailed off as a sharp pain shot through my head. I cried out a little, putting my hand to my head to apply some pressure, in hopes that it will cause the pain to go away.
‘Hyunnie oppa!’ One memory and sharp pain. ‘Sung oppa!’ Another memory and sharper pain. ‘Jeong oppa!’ Another memory and even sharper pain. ‘Eunjungie, meet a friend of ours from France. His name is Yoon San.’ One more memory and the pain feeling like a knife stabbing through my skull.
“Eunjung!” I felt the floor and some things land on me before I even knew what was happening. It hurt to open my eyes, the pain still there and strong.
“Hyung! What happened?! What’s wrong with Eunjung?” I could hear the worry in Sungwoon’s voice and feel someone lift me into what I guess was a sitting position.
“I don’t know. Kidmon, go get the car. One of you help me get her up.” Edward was the one who had lifted me up since his voice sounded close. I felt another pair of hands on me and soon I was being moved to a standing position but the hands were still on me.
A few moments passed and I felt myself moving. Before we left the store, the pain become bearable enough for me to open my eyes and I saw that Hojeong oppa and Edward were the ones holding me, leading me out the store while Sungwoon oppa quickly went around us to open the door to Kidmon’s car.
“Where are we going?” I whispered, scared that if I spoke too loud, the pain would worsen.
“The hospital.” Edward answered firmly.
“No, I’m fine. It was just a headache. I’m fine, really.” I tried to get out of their grip but they just held tighter.
“They never caused you to fall. We are going to the hospital.”
“Please Eunjung, we just want to make sure everything is okay.” Hojeong oppa pleaded.
I was about to tell them again that I didn’t need the hospital when I heard Yoonsan’s voice behind me.
“What happened? Is she okay?” Oh, now you care?
“Oh, now you care?” Edward muttered.
“We don’t know, San. We just heard Edward hyung call her name and then she’s on the floor.” Sungwoon oppa explained, holding the door open.
“Was it a headache?” Yoonsan asked me. I nodded my head, ignoring the fact that those were the first words he had spoken to me since the letter. He looked even more worried than he did before.
“Let me take-“ And then Colette appeared. She spoke to him in a hurried tone, showing him her phone. They spoke for a bit, Yoonsan looking and sounding torn while Colette sounded like she was pleading with him. I should really learn French.
“One of you call me when you get her to a hospital, I need to take care of something.” Yoonsan sighed before saying something to Colette and the two left.
“Ohhhh hell no! No, that is not-“
“Edward! Just…just get me to a hospital.” I mumbled. Hojeong took over helping me walk—even though I could walk perfectly fine—and got me into the car. Edward stomped to the other side, grumbling, possibly about Colette and Yoonsan, and got into the care. They had sat me in the front seat, I guess so I wasn’t crowded.
“Who was that girl with San?” Sungwoon oppa wondered once Kidmon oppa had us on our way to a hospital.
“A .” Edward muttered.
“I think it was a friend. They were speaking in French.” Hojeong oppa said.
“Why hasn’t he introduced her to us? Even yet, why was he hanging out with her and not Eunjung?” Kidmon oppa questioned. I shrugged my shoulders, too tired to speak. That headache had me feeling so drained. I let their conversation and the feeling of the moving car put me to sleep.
I woke up when I felt myself getting jostled a little. I looked and saw Hojeong oppa was carrying me. He didn’t notice that I was awake so I looked around and saw that we were walking into the hospital.
“You sure you got her?” I heard Edward worriedly ask. Not like he’ll carry me though.
“Don’t worry hyung, I work out a lot.” I could hear the proud smile in Hojeong oppa’s voice. He definitely felt like he worked out a lot…not that I mind. I still felt extremely drowsy and closed my eyes, falling back asleep.
The next time I woke up, all five of us were in an examination room, with Kidmon oppa standing in the corner, talking on the phone. Edward was scrolling through his phone as him, Sungwoon oppa, and Hojeong oppa sat on the three available chairs. I had been placed on the bed in the room. You know the one that can be turned into a seat and has that loud piece of paper laid out right in the middle. Yeah, that one.
“What does this mean?” Sungwoon oppa pointed something out to Hojeong oppa. It looked like he was filling out papers. Hopefully they weren’t filling out the forms on my behalf.
“I don’t know. Text Timo hyung.”
“Aish, this is so hard. Where’s San? Why isn’t he here yet?” Sungwoon oppa whined.
“Hyung is on the phone with him right now.” Hojeong oppa explained, taking the clipboard and pen from Sungwoon oppa.
“Oppas, let me fill out the rest.” I moved to sit up and Kidmon oppa was at my side immediately, helping me sit as he held his phone between his ear and shoulder.
“She just woke up…no, the doctor hasn’t come in yet…why?...so what if she’s a friend from France, your fiancé is in the hospital…” Kidmon oppa smiled a tight lipped smile at me before walking out the room, still on the phone.
Edward had taken the clipboard from Hojeong oppa, walking over and sitting down next to me.
“He’s been on the phone with your fiancé since we got here and trying to get him to get over here as quick as possible.” Edward informed me.
“How long have we been here?”
“Almost two hours. We waited half an hour to see if you’d wake up so you can fill out everything but that didn’t happen so then we tried filling out all we could, texting your brother every now and then. Your parents are on their way, by the way.”
“Why didn’t anyone wake me up?”
“You don’t think we tried that? You were out. A nurse even sprayed you with water. Those headaches just knock you out, don’t they?” I meekly nodded my head.
“Anyways, the doctor should be here shortly so try and finish what you can.” I nodded my head, taking the clipboard and pen from him. By the time I finished, the doctor and Kidmon oppa were coming into the room. Kidmon oppa looked annoyed, shaking his head at Sungwoon oppa and Hojeong oppa who seemed to understand what he meant.
“Hello Eunjung, I’m actually surprised to see you here. I looked over your MRIs and there was nothing we could find. Your brain looks perfectly normal and your blood work and urine samples show that you’re perfectly healthy.” The doctor seemed genuinely confused as he looked over the papers in his manila folder.
“And you don’t have a history of migraines in your family?” The doctor looked up at me.
“Uh…not that I am aware of but my parents are on their way so I can ask when they come.”
“Well, from what your friends told the nurses is that this was the first headache to cause you to fall.” I nodded my head.
“I mean, a few months ago, when the headaches became prominent, I’d be bedridden because the pain got so unbearable but they never caused me to pass out, for a better word.” I explained.
The doctor was taking notes of this. “And they just come at random times, is what I understand.” I again nodded my head.
“Yes sir.” The doctor asked me a few more questions, taking notes.
“Oh, this is new.” The doctor mumbled as he flipped through my file. The five of us looked at him. “It says here that you were in an accident when you were nine years old.”
“What?” I was thrown off completely by this and before I could ask him to clarify, my parents arrived, Moonkyu oppa right behind them.
“Sorry we’re late, traffic.” My mother smiled the smile specifically reserved for the public. Edward glared at her before looking at his phone.
“It’s fine. You came just in time. I want to speak with you two privately, if I may. You six, wait here please.”
Author’s Point of View
The doctor waited until Mr. and Mrs. Kim were settled before opening the folder and fishing out the paper he had been previously looking at.
“Mr. and Mrs. Kim, as you may be aware, your daughter has been suffering from headaches for the past few months and I think I may have found the answer.” The doctor looked at their faces for a reaction and was surprised to see no emotion.
“Really? How reliving. Our daughter and her fiancé have been extremely worried.” Mrs. Kim said, small smile on her face.
“Right, okay. Well, it says here that when she was nine, Eunjung was in an accident. She had been hit by a car, am I correct?” The Kims’ faces hardened.
“Yes, you’re correct.” Mr. Kim spoke.
“Did she suffer any memory loss from that accident?”
“She did get amnesia but we’re not sure to exactly what extent. We do know that she doesn’t remember a lot of her childhood.” Mr. Kim explained.
“There’s the problem. The memories seem to be trying to resurface now. It will be painful for her, but that’s expected. She’ll be fine. It isn’t life-threatening.” The doctor said, glad to have an answer for Eunjung.
The doctor spoke to them for a while more, giving them things that could help lessen the pain before the three went back to the room and giving them the okay to leave after explaining everything to Eunjung. Once the doctor was gone, Mrs. Kim grabbed Eunjung’s arm, excusing her and herself before pulling her away from the group.
“Where is Yoonsan?”
