Chapter 12
Rain On MeBy the time Friday came, I looked like a panda. I wanted to do something big for the visual so I had to finish the paper early so that I had enough time to make something real nice. I finished the 12 page paper in just two days, thanks to staying up late and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee. I’ve read over the paper countless of times and have asked the staff as well and different science teachers at school.
“Miss Eunjung, you don’t look so good.” I brushed away the maid’s concern.
“I’m fine, really. I just need to eat.” I smiled at her before leaving my room and walking to the kitchen.
“Eonni, can I have some coffee please?” I asked her, leaning on the island, holding my head up with my hand.
Sooyoung eonni glanced back at me from the stove and let out a sigh.
“Miss Eunjung, you look exhausted. I thought I told you not to stay up so late.” I yawned before answering.
“I’m sorry. I know you did, it’s just, this project is just a pain and people are coming over later today and who knows how long I’ll be out of the house tomorrow and I still need to get the visual done. I’ve started but I want it to be perfect.” Sooyoung eonni tsked as she made the coffee having finished breakfast.
“Just don’t overwork yourself, okay?” I nodded my head, thanking her for the coffee and taking a sip, almost at how good it tasted.
“Good morning.” I turned to greet Yoonsan, still drinking the coffee.
“Good morning.” I finally put the coffee down, smiling at him.
“Eunjung, you look tired.” I sighed, nodding my head. If three people have told me already how tired I looked, I could only imagine what Edward will say.
“Ohmygod…you look like .”
“Hi Edward.”
Edward looked at me with wide eyes. “Girl, have you been making your aegyo-sal with charcoal?” I rolled my eyes at this but couldn’t help but to at least smile because that was funny. I just didn’t have the energy to laugh at the moment.
“It’s not that bad.” He shook his head.
“No, it’s bad.” I sighed.
“I know, I know. But the project will be done with finally this Tuesday and she’s the only teacher who did this. I won’t have to worry about anything like this until exams.” I assured him. My body wasn’t used to these late nights and I guess with the stress that my parents and Yoonsan’s parents just naturally cause, my body is just not handling it great.
“So, ready for today?” I smiled, thankful of the change of subject.
“Yeah. I know you and Sooyoung eonni will get along. I can’t wait for you two to meet. And of course, meet Yoonsan as well.” Edward smiled.
“As long as he treats you good, then he’s okay with me.”
This whole week, I hadn’t been going to the daycare center because of the project so Mr. Shin has been picking me up directly after school but today, after he picked me up, he was going to go and get Edward once he finished at the daycare center. Edward tried assuring me that he could take a bus but I didn’t want him paying and Mr. Shin already assured me that it was his job to take care of whatever I asked him to. Not that I plan on taking advantage of that, but if it helps my friends, I’ll do what I need to.
Once I had gotten home, I took a quick shower and changed into a pair of khaki skinny jeans that were rolled up to my ankles with a fluffy, oversized, light pink sweater with a black, collared, sleeveless button up shirt under. I kept my makeup light and natural and did my hair in loose curls. Once I was done, I continued working on the project. I wanted to have it done by Sunday at the latest but because of having to see family tomorrow, I’ll probably have it done by Monday. I had been so into my project, that when my phone rang, it scared the crap out of me. I had to scramble around my room to find it, recognizing the ringtone that Edward had set a long time ago.
“Is everything okay?” Was the first thing I said.
“Eunjung, I’m so sorry. But the damn manager of Daycare center put me in charge planning for that Winter fair. They’re making everyone stay late to start planning. I won’t be able to go to your house.” I smiled a sad smile.
“It’s fine, Eddie. Really. I understand.” I assured him.
“I’m really, really sorry.” I laughed. It felt like the roles were switched. I was usually the one apologizing for something.
“Edward, it’s fine. I was going to be freaking out about this stupid project the entire night anyways.”
“I swear, I’m going to make it up to you. Everyone’s been wanting to hang out with you again so one night, we’re all going to go out and have fun.”
“You don’t like going out though.” I giggled.
“I know, but for one of my best friends, I will.” I shook my head, smiling.
“Or we can just invite everyone over and do like a pool party or something. I’m not even legal to go to a lot of places.”
“Okay, sounds good. I’ll see you…Thursday?” I smiled, nodding my head but then remembering that he couldn’t see me.
“Okay, Thursday.” We bid each other goodbye before hanging up and him telling to me to tell “Mr. Handsome” hi for him . Right when we hung up, I texted Mr. Shin to let him know that he wouldn’t need to go and pick up Edward.
I turned to the visual. It was a model of the x-ray machine she had used when she helped discover the shape of DNA, which was a pain but was coming out better than I thought. I just needed to make a model of a strand of DNA and then I was done. I had printed a picture of what she had seen from the x-ray machine so I was done with that part.
“Okay Eunjung, more time to finish this. You can do this.” I assured myself, getting back to work.
The x-ray machine was nearly done when Yoonsan stopped by my room, not in what I remember him going to work in. He instead was wearing a black hoodie, the sleeves pushed up, and jeans. Instead of his hair being combed over, his hair was left down. It was weird seeing him so dressed down but it wasn’t unwelcomed.
“How’s your project?” I smiled a proud smile as I looked at the replica of the x-ray machine.
“My paper is done and I’m almost done with this. I just need to do a model of a strand of DNA and I’ll be done. But that won’t take me anymore than a few hours.” He smiled at me.
“Want to come and get a better look?” I offered. His eyes widened a bit, seeming like he was surprised.
“Can I?” I giggled and nodded my head. Yoonsan seemed to hesitate before finally walking into my room. He sat down on the floor next to me and examined the x-ray machine.
“Waaaah, this is really good. And, is this what your scientist used to discover whatever she did.” I nodded my head. He looked over at me and smiled.
“You look so tired, but there’s a shine in your eyes.” I looked at him, confused. Before I could ask what he meant, a maid came and told us that someone was here. Yoonsan stood up from the floor.
“Ah, that must be them.” Yoonsan looked down at me and held out a hand. I took it and he pulled me up.
“Let me go with you to greet them.” I followed him out of my room and downstairs to the foyer where we stood side by side. I looked up at Yoonsan and he looked down at me, smiling.
“Don’t worry, my friends will like you.” I smiled, looking away so he didn’t see my blush.
“Master Yoon, Miss Eunjung, your guests.”
