Chapter 42
Compelled to LoveLuhan’s POV
“Ladies and gentlemen we have now landed in Seoul, South Korea. We thank you for flying with us, Beijing Airways, this day and wish you a continuous nice day. Thank you,” the stewardess said in the speakers. I glanced at Mirae who was going through her handbag for the tenth time or so. I wondered what she did. It wasn’t like she could be searching for the same thing ten times and tried again because she didn’t find it the first nine times, it would be ridiculous. We hadn’t talked all flight and I didn’t know if that was entirely because of that thing that had happened when we played videogames, but it certainly was one of the factors, in my opinion. We stood up and got our bags then made our way out through the pass control and so on. Mirae walked slightly behind me while looking down into her phone. I slowed down my pace in order to walk beside her instead, in case someone would bump in to her. She looked up at me with a wondrous expression. “To make sure you don’t walk in to someone,” I explained to her.
“Oh...” I smiled as her cheeks turned a pinkish colour again. She was so cute when she blushed. I didn’t expect that we would be met by any of our family members since they were so busy, but I would’ve preferred that over the phone call I got from my mother on the way home to our house.
“Hi, mother,” I greeted her.
“Hi! I’m so glad you’re home! How was your flight? How’s Ra Hael? Where are you now, on your way home?” My mother was good at asking a dozen questions all at once.
“Yes, mother. We’re home,” I chuckled. “We’re in the car now. Everything went well. Ra Hael is sitting here with me, she’s good too.”
“Good, good! So you’ll be here in half an hour? Or maybe an hour?”
“W-what? Wait, what are you talking about? Where are we going? We just got home,” I questioned confused. My mother’s laughter on the other end didn’t make me less nervous.
“We’re having a small gathering with the family to welcome you back home. I’m sure you’re both able to drink a strong coffee, change some clothes and then get over here! We’re at the Kim’s residence. I’ll see you in an hour, dear! Bye!”
“Mother! Wait! Hey! Mom! Dammit...” I mumbled, looking down at my phone with a deep frown.
“What is it?” I jumped a bit, having totally forgotten about Mirae. “Luhan?”
“Oh, sorry. Uh... Our mothers are quite hopeless.” Mirae raised a brow. “They’ve arranged a ‘Welcome back’-gathering. It’s in your house with both our families. We have to be there in an hour...” I informed Mirae who instantly scowled. I noticed that her lips went down in a small pout, which I thought was adorable.
“Hm. Okay, I guess we have no choice,” she said in a low, rather upset, tone. I wanted to cheer her up somehow, though I didn’t know what I could say or do to make her feel better. I gazed out the window and suddenly an idea dawned on me.
“Mr Park! Stop the car!” I shouted. The driver immediately stopped. “Wait here, please,” I said to him and got out of the car. I jogged to Mirae’s side of the car and opened the door. “Come,” I told her, holding out my hand. Mirae’s big, confused eyes made a smile form on my face, and I also believe it calmed her down and gave her courage, because she took my hand. I helped her out, shut the car door and pulled her with me across the street where there was a woman selling the one thing anyone would feel a thousand times better after consuming: ice cream. Mirae gasped.
“Ice cream?!” she exclaimed. I chuckled.
“I think it’s perfect if you want energy and become happier. What flavours do you want? My treat.” Mirae bit her lip and turned to study the flavours. I obeserved her the whole time, and there was no use: I could not hold back a smile.
“Hm... I want... Lemon and pistachio, please!” The woman smiled while she scooped up the ice cream for Mirae. She bowed to the woman and tasted it. I handed over the money to the woman. “Aren’t you having one?”
“Oh, no. I’m fine,” I replied with a softer smile.
“Hm. Here!” Mirae took another spoon, took some ice cream and held it out to me. I looked at her questioningly. Did she expect me to eat it? Mirae tilted her head. “Eat!” she encouraged. I leaned forward and let her feed me the ice cream. “It’s good, right?”
“Mm, very good,” I answered. Mirae handed me the spoon and continued to eat with her own.
“Aw, it’s not often I see couples as cute as you two are,” the woman suddenly cooed. Mirae and I turned to her with wide eyes then we faced each other.
“We’re not...” I started.
“Thank you!” Mirae cut me off. I had a quite astonished expression on my face. “Your ice cream is delicious, mam. Goodbye.” Mirae grabbed my hand and pulled me back to the car again. “Thanks for the ice cream. It’s really good. Do you want more?” I shook my head, slowly.
“No, I’m fine. I’
