하루만 (Just One Day)

Th13teen

"You have barely four hours left for today."

Taeyong was able to make a comeback with Jungkook's 'territory' statement. Jimin started biting his lower lip and twitching his fingers. Taehyung still looked clueless and looked at Jungkook and Taeyong with confusion.

"Yes, four hours. But, I plan to make it last...forever."

I wanted to stop the craziness but Jimin beat me to it. He stood up and flailed his arms from side to side.

Jimin: Hold it, hold it! Why don't we play a game?

Me: Yeah, better.

Jimin: Wait up. Let me call the others.

And he called the FISSkT members to join. He wanted to play Charades. Food has not yet been served, because Jin was still waiting for some of his friends and classmates to arrive. The guests were just either talking to each other or enjoying the music. Mr. Kim had hired a piano musician and violinists for the occasion. There was the feel of a formal party because of the music.

The FISSkT boys joined the table. Jimin had also called Seul Gi and Jeno to join. The other boys were another table and the adults on another one. We couldn't fit in just one table, so Jimin led the group by the poolside. He then assigned each of us on a team. There were three teams. He led one team, and he assigned J to lead the second team, and Namjoon the third team.

Jimin: Okay, the one who will give the word will be the birthday boy. He's not part of the skate team, so he's not going to take sides. Hahaha. Wait. Let me ask Jin hyung to write some words so we can draw lots.

And he went to inform Jin. The latter looked confused at first and thought he was the one to guess the word. He then smiled sheepishly as he understood. J ran downstairs to get a pen and some paper. He immediately cut the paper into small squares so Jin could write the words.

Sehun: Hey, let's plan our strategy.

Kai: No need. I can guess them all.

Sehun: You're too confident, hyung.

Kai: Because I'm sure I'll get all the words right.

Namjoon: You better join my team then.

Kai: No swapping of members, hyung? Hahaha.

J: If I have to swap, I'll swap places with you Kai.

Kai: No, no, no. I don't wanna be leader.

J: Okay.

Baek: I really wanna go and try playing the piano.

J: You can go.

Baek: Can I?

J: Yes, of course. You want me to tell them?

Baek: Ahhh, maybe later.

Jeno: Seul Gi nuna plays the piano well, too.

J: Jinjja?

Jeno: Ne, she does.

J: Then she can play next?

Seul Gi: Aish. I haven't prepared.

J: Okay, then you can prepare first. Baek, you go on.

Baek: How about the game?

Kai: The game can wait until later when Jin hyung's other guests are here.

Then J went to grab Baek's arm and pulled him towards the piano. There was a guy playing it at the moment and J excused himself politely. When the guy stepped aside and went to their table, J pushed Baek onto the piano seat and told him to start.

Baek looked around to see if anyone was paying him any attention. He nervously looked over his shoulder to check on papa. When he saw that papa was happily chattering away with Mr. Kim and Mr. Min, he nodded to himself and took a deep breath.

Everyone of us who knew he was on the piano, looked in his direction as we waited for him to play a piece. Then he flexed his fingers and placed them on the white ivory keys. The first few notes he played was soft. It was like he was testing the feel of the keys under his fingers. Then he started playing a song.

Valse No 6 D flat major opus 64 No 1 Minuten-Walzer. One of Frederick Chopin's classic piece.

One of my favorites, actually. Most of my brothers play the piano and other musical instruments, and I have heard them play music from different genres.

As Baek played, the adults at the other table had stopped talking and listened to the music. It seemed to me like mama recognized the style, that it was Baek, so she had nudged papa in the arm. Papa turned his head to look at Baek playing the piano. He nodded as he was impressed with his son.

When you hear Baek play the piano, you won't see the mischievous, playful sixteen year old boy. Instead, you would see someone who was serious in making the music happen. His look of concentration would fool you that he was a quiet person. LOL.

After he played, we gave him a round of applause. He jerked his head around, shocked to hear the sound of clapping. He was not expecting the others to notice. Then he got up and bowed shyly. He walked really fast back to his seat and stayed there until the attention was on someone else. J had to go down again, because Jin had received a call from his school friends that they were already outside the gate. J and Jin went down together to meet them.

I was glad the tension was over. Taeyong got to talk with Sehun. It seemed to me like they were sizing each other up, as well. Sehun just grunted at some of what Taeyong said. While Taeyong raised an eyebrow when he heard something he didn't like from what Sehun was saying. Tao and Taehyung had gone into their own world and were sort of having a contest on who looked weirder. They were taking pictures of themselves and comparing it.

Chanyeol, Kai, and Jimin were enthusiastically answering Seul Gi's questions about Beijing. Jeno and Baek were silent in their own corners. However, they were both listening in on the conversation.

Jungkook was... I didn't know what he was doing. I couldn't hear him speak, either.

I decided to ignore the person beside me. I was not ready to talk to him after what I heard earlier. It was making me melt and if I talked to him, I didn't know what to say, either. I looked around and observed the table where the oldies were talking in hushed tones.

That table looked exclusively for senior and junior boys. Kris and Luhan were leaning forward, as Xiumin said something. Lay and Yoongi were casually leaning back on their seats listening to whatever the three oldies were talking about. Suho was all eyes and ears to the music now. The guy who was playing the piano before Baek, had resumed his seat.

Chen and Kyungsoo preferred to sit by the adults' table. I could see that Mrs. Min was interviewing Chen and Kyungsoo about their recent singing performances. Papa was quick to answer some questions pertaining to how they got their musical talent.

I had to laugh when mama made a face at papa when papa 'claimed' my brothers all got their talent from him.

Then Jin and J appeared from the stairs, with the school friends behind them. When they were seated, Mr. Kim ordered the catering staff to serve the food. It was a full course meal. Just like what you could expect from a formal dinner. I never felt at ease on formal dinners. I had to keep sitting up straight, afraid that one of the oldies or papa saw me slouching again.

As we ended the main course, Mr. Kim rose from his seat and took his wine glass and proposed a toast in honor of Jin's birthday. He called his eldest son forward as he made his way to the front.

"Good evening, everyone! Thank you for coming. Before I say something for Jin's birthday, let me congratulate some kids here for a job well done tonight. Yoongi...stand up...Suho, Chen, and Kai. These four boys have showed their hard work at the play tonight. We, your parents, are proud of you."

Catcalls for Yoongi were heard. He played the young Russian Mafia boss, and the guests were telling him to do more theater in the future.

Yoongi: Ahh...kamsahamnida yeoreobun. I cannot leave my first love, though.

Namjoon: Who? Suga?

Yoongi: Shush, Namu.

Those who knew that Suga was the iguana, laughed loudly. From what I understood, Namu meant 'tree' in Korean. I guess it was Yoongi's endearment to his brother who was taller than him.

Chen and Kai were asked to do an encore, but the two politely declined, saying it's Jin's birthday, so the limelight should be on him.

After the congratulations, Mr. Kim continued with his toast to Jin.

"It is an honor to have you here celebrate my son's birthday. As you know, Seokjin is my eldest. I am very proud of him as a father and as someone who sees a bright future for him. I and his eomma have not expected him to be this obedient boy as he was growing up. We have put our trust in him to help guide his younger brothers as we, his parents, worked hard for them.

"I thank you, my son, for not giving me and your eomma a headache over the years. You have always given your best in all you do. Today that you are eighteen years old, it's considered the legal age...hmmm...and it's the age when you can decide on your own...I just hope that you will still be humble and make wise decisions.

"My wish for you on your birthday is that, you continue to be the best you can be, and never forget your past so you can look into your future with pride, knowing how you started. Continue to be the good example that you are to your younger brothers. Hmmm... J...Hoseok, you better listen to your Jin hyung, ne? Hahah.

"Seokjin, make appa and eomma proud, ne? Make Hoseok, Jimin and Jungkook proud of you.

"And now I'd like to propose a toast to Seokjin. May he have a successful and long life ahead of him. May he have the best of health and wealth."

We all stood up and raised our glasses to him. I actually had red wine on my glass. Yup. It wasn't as if I was going to get drunk or anything, but it was a special occasion, so yeah. I toasted and drank.

After we toasted, we sang him a happy birthday.

And because most of what Mr. Kim said was in Korean, most of Jin's Chinese school friends could not understand him. Lay and Suho acted as translators. Jin said a few words of thanks after the toast.

"Thank you all. Thank you for coming. I am very honored to have you come to my birthday. To my Chinese friends, thank you for being patient with me. I'm still learning how to properly speak in Chinese. Hehehe.

"Anyway, I know it was a short notice, but because I was thinking of a simple way to celebrate my birthday, I forgot that it was just a few days away. So I was not able to properly invite you all. Appa, eomma...thank you very much for everything. Rest assured that I will fulfill your wishes for me. Hoseokkie, please listen to hyung always, ne?

*chuckles*

"Jimin...same thing to you. Hahaha. And Kookie. Maintain your obedience to hyung. Well, actually, thank you to you three for being there for me always. I will make you proud of hyung."

And he made a deep bow. We sang him a happy birthday again and clapped. Because of the short notice on the invitation, we were not able to prepare gifts for him. But what I didn't know was that, mama had already asked Luhan to buy a gift for him from our family after he dropped Tao and Baek at their martial arts classes. I was knocked out for three hours earlier that afternoon, so I didn't know that.

"See? I'm a good guy."

Jungkook nudged me by the arm as he whispered. I was startled at that and I turned to look at him.

Me: I didn't say you were bad...

JK: Uhm...I just wanted to say I was good.

Me: *nods* Yup, you are good.

JK: Xiexie ni.

Oh god, there he goes again with his Chinese. He was not done with "xiexie" he said his previous sentence in Chinese, too.

JK: Wo shi yige haoren.

Me: Shi-a. Ni zai haoren.

JK: Ahemm, you hear that, Taeyong?

He had smoothly turned his head towards the Brat. And the Brat just smirked at him and said, "Gongxi."

Dessert was served. There was not one dessert that was the same on each plate. Actually, dessert was by special request, as long as it was on the menu. It was one of those fun stuff that the catering company offered. They handed each table a dessert menu and we had to choose which one we wanted.

I chose vanilla ice cream with strawberry syrup and cherries on top. Simple dessert for my simple taste.

Actually, I chose that dessert because it reminded me of Jungkook. Should I elaborate more or should you just guess why it reminded me of him? Hmmm... I should just let you guess.

Violins were playing in the background and because it was dessert time, the mood became easygoing. Jimin had resumed his game of Charades. He already had the rolled up paper in a box for us to pick. But I had to go to the ladies' room. And it was not my house. I dared not ask the person beside me because I felt awkward. I hurriedly got up from my seat and went to mama.

Mama was the one who asked Mrs. Kim where the nearest comfort room was. There were two stairs leading up to the rooftop, I just noticed. Mrs. Kim had told me to take the stairs that led to the second floor of the house. The bathroom was two doors on the left just off the stairs. I thanked her and discreetly went down.

When I reached the second floor, I saw several doors before me.

Second door after the stairs. Which door? Left side or right? I forgot to ask.

I had to try both the doors, then. But before I didn, I noticed some doors had signs...or nameplates on them. The door nearest the stairs had a copper nameplate that read "JIN" in Korean letters.

Oh, so that was Jin's room. It looked so formal compared to the other rooms on this floor. But I spoke too soon. I didn't see the door hanger that said "Bio-Hazard" on it.

Jimin's door had on a large peace sign after the Korean letters for "JIMIN." There was also a sort of 'warning' sign under. "Knock once, otherwise, you be the one knocked twice." It was in English. I had to giggle at that. Beside his room was J's. It didn't have any Korean letters on them. Just a plain large letter "J" that was made of broken glass mosaic. The only other thing on it, was a Tony Hawk sticker that served as the 'period' after the letter J.

Pretty creative.

Across J's room was Jungkook's. He had stuck a "No ID, no entry" signboard outside. There was also another sign that said, "Please enter your Password" and a drawing of a keypad beside it.

I was sort of walking into a deja vu. My brothers' rooms were like this. I had to laugh at the bio hazard door hanger, because there was exactly a sign like that on Lay's room back in the old house. These two really had a lot in common.

The second door on the right had Jungkook's name on it, so obviously, it was not the bathroom. I went to the one on the left and felt relieved that I found the right door. I went in.

I stayed for a bit inside the bathroom, combing my hair and admiring myself in the mirror. Let's face it, we girls have those times that we love looking at ourselves in the mirror. I was not an exception to it.

I think I spent a good fifteenminutes talking to myself and admiring myself in the mirror. When I felt satisfied with myself, I stepped out the bathroom. Then I heard a faint sound coming from the floor below. Someone was playing the piano.

I was kinda curious, so instead of going back up, I walked slowly towards the sound. I found the stairs going down and I tiptoed downstairs. I didn't wanna surprise the one who was making beautiful music there.

Whoever it was, he was playing the piano. I have never heard of the piece before, but I liked it.

I peeked from the stairs, not wanting to go all the way down, for the person might see me and stop playing. The sound was louder from the stairs. The piano must be situated near it. Then I saw a grand piano. I couldn't see who it was playing, so I crouched low and poked my head farther down.

It was Jungkook.

Then I recalled him playing piano for me one night. I sat on the stairs, listening to him play. He was playing the same piece over and over. When he played a wrong note, he would start over. I rested my hands on my knees and my chin on my palms, as I listened. Then he stopped abruptly.

And poked his head to the side.

He realized someone was there, watching him, listening to him.

When he saw me, he smiled.

"Xiao Yi. Come here."

I got up from the stairs and went down. I stood beside the piano and he patted the space beside him on the piano stool. I sat down and he smiled some more.

JK: You know how to play the piano?

Me: Just a bit.

JK: I learned from Jin hyung.

Me: He's a good teacher, then.

JK: But he is very strict.

Me: You turned out well...

JK: Ne...

Silence for a minute. And he ran his fingers through the piano keys once more. The same tune, yet a little slower this time.

JK: Do you know this song?

Me: No.

JK: It's one of J hyung's compositions. Actually, him and Jin hyung worked on this.

Me: It's nice.

JK: I helped with the beat.

Me: What's it called?

JK: Haruman.

Me: Just one day...

JK: Yeah.

Me: I like it.

JK: Me, too.

Me: Shouldn't we be going back to the party upstairs?

JK: I only have two more hours left for today.

Me: What?

JK: Uhm...Nothing. Let's go back.

But he was hiding a smile.

I got up first and started walking back towards the stairs and he followed.

"What were you two doing?"

J had come down the stairs and looked at us suspiciously. He placed both arms on his chest and wiggled his fingers as he raised his eyebrows.

JK: Was just practicing my piano piece.

J: You sure? Because eomma had noticed you were gone.

JK: Yes.

J: Hmmm...

And I went up the stairs. Jungkook followed. J kept humming as he followed us back up.

Luhan's eyes were on me as I got back on the rooftop, followed by Jungkook and J. I went to sit beside Sehun. He and Taeyong had started an armwrestling match. The other boys were betting on Taeyong, but Kai was egging on Sehun.

"Who is the sangnamja between you two? Let's see."

Jimin served as the referee. Chen and Kyungsoo had joined our table. Baek and Tao had replaced them beside mama at the other table.

"Taeyong, my man! I have bet my whole week's allowance on you."

"What? Just a week's allowance?"

"I got no more money orz."

"Sehun-ah, just surrender."

"No way."

"Don't listen to them, Sehun-ah. I trust you would win."

"Wait, wait. Just half a week's allowance. I changed my mind."

"Whatever Chanyeol."

"Yahh! I said just half a week, okay. Final decision."

"Am I worth just half a week's allowance, Chanyeol-ah?"

And the Brat has spoken. But even as he spoke to Chanyeol, his eyes had darted towards Jungkook. The latter didn't react to what was said, rather he just sat down and watched the armwrestling match.

Barely two hours left for today.

Did he mean two hours with me?

I cleared my throat and leaned back. He turned his head to look at me and said softly, so that I was the only one who could hear.

"Twenty four hours...Can I ask for just one day?"

But Taeyong heard.

So, he lost to Sehun.

And Chanyeol lost half a week's allowance.

"Okay."

I replied just as softly as he asked. He leaned back as well, and without looking at me, "But like I said... I plan to make it last...forever."

And I saw him smile, from the corner of my eye.

Another chapter down. ^_^ Anyway, for the benefit of not being confused over Korean age difference from all other countries, I have decided to have it fixed to international standard age. And I've been listening to classical music, mostly Haydn's and Chopin's. I have also been trying to learn the notes to Just One Day, piano version, thus this chapter was born. Oh, by the way, I think Kai looked like he owned the song than Taemin for Pretty Boy. LOL xD Just my opinion. EXO still holds the number one spot in my heart, followed by BTS. I'm still deciding on the others. Hahah. If I forgot something, I'll just put them on the story feed. → 사랑해요! ♥♥♥ 我愛你們!吴愛你們!
