The Boy Downstairs
Eternal FlameAt 8 o'clock in the morning, Hyunjoong hurried over to the window and pulled the curtains wide open. Kyujong groaned and turned to that his back was to the window and pulled the covers over his head. "Hyunjoong... Close the curtains... It's bright."
"I wanna see him," the older boy reminded and hopped onto the windowsill, sitting there to wait.
The latter sighed and yawned as he sat up, his short canine teeth reflecting the sunlight. He slid off the bed and approached Hyunjoong. "Seriously, what's so great about that guy? You barely even know him. Only his name and what he looks like."
"And what his voice sounds like," Hyunjoong added. "You really should hear his voice tonight. It's like music. His presence is comforting, y'know?"
"No, I don't know," Kyujong remarked.
There was a dull silence before the younger boy groaned and headed back to the large king-sized bed. "I'm going back to sleep."
"I'll wake you up when I see him," Hyunjoong chimed.
Kyujong crawled back under the blanket and pulled the covers over his head, determined to get the sun out of his eyes.
Hyunjoong gazed outside at the courtyard, watching as the gentle winds loosened leaves from the branches of trees and made them float gently down to the ground, or tossing a few in the air first before giving them a place to land. I wonder where Saengie went... That little black fox... Maybe he was, just like these leaves, tossed from place to place and settled elsewhere.
All of a sudden, he saw a boy walking from the dorms into the courtyard, heading calmly towards the main entrance of the school. Hyunjoong's eyes widened as his lips curled into a smile.
"Kyujong! Kyujong!" he exclaimed excitedly, quickly jumping up from the windowsill. "Quickly, come here. Balli! Balli!!! He's walking towards the entrance. Hurry up!!!"
The boy grunted as he sat up and dragged his feet across the carpet towards the window. He looked out and only caught a slight glimpse of the boy's back as he walked into the building. Hyunjoong huffed and crossed his arms. "You didn't get up fast enough! You could've seen him if you were a second faster..."
Kyujong rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Yeah, right... Come on Hyunjoong. You should get some sleep, too. Being under the sun isn't good for you mentally and physically anyways. It's not good for any of us."
The older boy rolled his eyes and headed into the washroom. Carefully, in front of the mirror, he took off his black contacts to reveal dazzling royal purple eyes. He looked closely into the mirror and inspected his iris. Nothing seems abnormal... That's good. He put the contacts back into their small package and continued back to the bed, where he snuggled into the blanket.
Kyujong growled as he rolled over to face Hyunjoong. "Go close the curtains. I don't want sun shining into the room."
"I want to get used to it... So maybe I can go out sometime to greet him..." Hyunjoong murmured.
"Hyunjoong, he's different. He's a human and you're a vampire. Even if you two fall in love, he's going to die way before you. Trust me. There's absolutely no way you can be together."
The older boy turned away. "Thanks for telling me that."
Kyujong rolled over so their backs were facing each other. He exhaled as he closed his eyes. "You're welcome."
