Chapter Forty-Four

He was vulnerable, too vulnerable for his liking.

There was no way that he could defend himself while holding Donghae, nor could he leave the boy behind and find his own way out. He couldn’t even touch his earpiece because he would need to put Donghae down for that and that would also make him vulnerable.

And not only that… Donghae’s life was in danger. His cold body was gradually becoming colder and if it wasn’t for the low whimpers that the boy uttered, Eunhyuk would’ve thought that he was dead. And he couldn’t handle that. He couldn’t handle that thought! How could he let someone go when he loved him…

He almost dropped Donghae because of that thought, he finally admitted to himself that he indeed loved the boy. It was utterly impossible and yet it happened. And with that little thought, he pressed his own lips on the boy’s front head again and again. He wasn’t denying it anymore, to be specific, he was done denying it. Constantly trying to hide it by saying that the boy was helping him to relax was tiring. And to be honest the feeling of being in love was something he definitely liked! Still he kept walking, knowing that standing still was even more dangerous.

“Hyuk?!” Eunhyuk quickly turned to his right and already made a movement to hide when he saw who had called him.

Hangeng was running towards him with a smile when he saw that Eunhyuk was carrying Donghae. “You found him!” He said in glee, Hangeng hadn’t thought that they would find him so soon but it was a welcoming change of events.

Eunhyuk darkly nodded, he was immediately reminded of his former friend. “Let’s go.” He told Hangeng and the older one nodded. As they both began walking further along the dark corridor, Hangeng asked: “Shouldn’t we call for Sungmin?”

Eunhyuk looked at him coldly while pushing Donghae’s cold body against his own. “No, he is fine where he is now…”

Anne was startled when she heard glass breaking somewhere outside the bathroom. Not soon after that she heard muffled screams and gunshots. She quickly exchanged a gaze with Heechul when suddenly the door was thrown open and her security officers came inside.

She couldn’t help but let out a light squeak in surprise but Heechul was thinking quicker and pulled Anne behind him. He was not about to let her get taken away again, not when he had already worn a dress to get her back. Well, okay it was true that he wore more a dress more often than just that evening (Hangeng liked it and if that helped then who was he to complain) but he never did it in public before.

“Hand her over…” One of the bulkiest security guards ordered Heechul  in bad English. Anne couldn’t see his eyes because they were hidden behind glasses but she saw that it made Heechul a bit nervous.

“You can forget that, I won’t hand her over!” He answered back in his normal man voice which clearly surprised the other guards who didn’t wear any glasses and with also a bad accent.

The bulkiest male just slowly raised his gun at Heechul, as if he had all the time in the world. “This is my last warning,” his bad English was irritating for Anne, it had always been irritating if people couldn’t get the right intonation, “hand her over, now!” He hissed.

Before Heechul could even move or speak, Anne put her hands in her middle and answered irritated: “Could the two of you stop speaking like I’m not in the room…” She began but she stopped when she saw the man’s face. Even with his sunglasses on he seemed enraged and she cringed and tried to hide a bit more behind Heechul.

She saw the bulky man lift his gun and…

‘BANG’ ‘BANG’ ‘BANG’ ‘BANG’ ‘BANG’

She screamed as Heechul pulled her down to the ground, trying to take cover from the gunfire. When it stopped they both looked up to see what exactly had happened.

On the ground lay the five dead security guards, her guards. Blood was seeping out of their guns. Anne gulped back some vomit when she saw the horrifying seen before she looked up to see who had shot her guards.

Her eyes widened in relief when she saw the two person who were standing there. One was looking with matching big eyes, full of disgust at the scene while the other was slowly lowering his gun with a smirk on his face that could only be explained as triumph.

But Anne didn’t care about that anymore, she didn’t care about anything anymore as soon as she saw Yunho. She jumped over a few bodies and pulled Yunho in a tight hug. Hugging him as long as she wanted until she heard Daniel coughing.

She irritatingly looked at him while Heechul sighed in relieve: “Oh God, I was afraid for a minute that we wouldn’t survive that. Damn, you know how to make things exciting!”

Anne pulled out of Yunho’s hug: “Not exciting!” She lashed out, “Dangerous! It’s already a disaster that Donghae’s here, what were you thinking of coming here?!” Yunho opened his mouth and closed it again, not knowing how to answer his mother. All of the sudden his logical answers were gone.

Daniel decided to help his stepson: “Anne, he was just here-”

It didn’t help, she became even more furious and she pricked him in his chest constantly to let him know that she was absolutely not amused: “And what were you thinking letting in here, he’s just a boy! He’s only twenty-one and has no experience in fighting and you let him in the enemies headquarters?!” She was yelling at him in a high tone. “What in the world were you thinking?” She screamed at him again, not being able to control herself.

“Wait, wait!” Daniel tried to save himself from his wife’s wrath, “I didn’t do it on my own, Hangeng and Eunhyuk agreed to it too!”

“Oh yeah, because that just makes it better?! Two brats who’re not even a decade older than him deciding that?! Just wait ‘till we go home, then you’re all going to get it.” She fumed but she stopped when she heard more yelling and gunshots again, she remembered where she was again.

“Donghae… Where is Donghae?” She desperately asked her husband, completely forgetting her fury from a few seconds ago and Daniel tried his best not to smile because this was just how Anne was. She could forget her anger very quickly.

“Either Eunhyuk, Sungmin or Hangeng has found him because Yesung has joined the party!” Heechul delightfully told them and Yunho hastily said: “Then let’s go find them!”

Daniel showed his stepson a grin and quickly refilled his handgun with new bullets before leading the way out of the women’s bathroom.

It was quiet in the hallway, except for some far away noises from the ballroom. Daniel walked in front, after which Yunho and Anne came and Heechul closed the line. Daniel couldn’t help but look back the entire time, checking of his wife was okay when he suddenly heard some noise from the other end of the hallway.

“Heechul!” Heechul looked in the direction from where his name was being called and saw his lover running towards him together with Eunhyuk and… “Donghae!” He heard Anne and Yunho call out.

Anne and Yunho quickly ran to Eunhyuk to verify if Donghae was still alive. With tears running over her face, Anne softly caressed her son’s face. Donghae just stirred but he didn’t wake up.

“Eunhyuk, where is Sungmin?” Daniel asked the younger one and though he could see the younger’s one’s face darkening he didn’t get an answer as they heard another voice say:

“That’s what I would like to know too…”

The entire group looked behind them and they saw a furious looking Kato with a crowd of henchman behind them who were pointing their guns at them with the obvious intention to shoot as soon as Kato gave them the order.

Everyone is together now *yay* ! Well everyone except for Sungmin that is...

Anyhow, I promised you that I would tell you the hints. First hint was in chapter 9 when Sungmin thought in wonder: he is so loyal. Quite a strange thought for someone who is supposed to be loyal to his boss too. Second hint: The gunman hid himself in Sungmin's quarters. How is it that Sungmin didn't see him if he wasn't a traitor? Besides, Sungmin could've come earlier out of the room because they were talking in a normal volume to the gunman. In 25 Sungmin only regretted not keeping Kyuhyun in the room but there was no Henry or Donghae in his mind. And the last thing is that Sungmin knew how the men who kidnapped Donghae looked while Siwon only saw them driving away while he was the first one by the door...

You probably know that there are still some loose ends to Sungmin's story for example Kyuhyun but I can't tell you everything yet, some explaining needs to be done by Sungmin himself. Still if you have question about these things, ask them. I'll try answering them but if I won't that will be because it will be explained later in the story...
