It was the night of Kai’s party. Your jaw wasn’t aching so much, but it was still visibly swollen.

Eunhae would be here soon to pick you up.

You were sitting on the edge of your bed with deflated shoulders in your pretty black party dress with white polka dots.

There was a gentle tap on the door.

“Come in.” You called. Daehyun poked his head inside. “Hey,” He stepped into the room and shut the door behind him. “Why are you looking so glum in such a pretty dress?”

“Because I’m not pretty enough for the dress. My cheeks are still swollen. How am I supposed to go to the party looking like a mess?!” You lowered your head in depression.

Daehyun bent down on one knee in front of you. “Yeojin, look at me.” Gently, he cupped your chin. You raised your head to meet his eyes. “Don’t say such untrue things. You are a girl who is truly beautiful inside and out. Like Eunhae said, your cheeks don’t look so bad. The swelling has gone down, too.” Daehyun comforted.

“I just wish this mask would cover my mouth instead of my eyes.” You glanced at the black mask next to you.

Daehyun’s eyes mischievously twinkled, “I can grant that wish.”

“What do you mean?” You asked, puzzled.

Daehyun pulled out something from his mask. You gasped at the beautiful black sequined mask. It was a lovely, mysterious mask that covered the mouth and nose area along with most of your cheeks, as you wished. “Oppa…” You whispered in awe. “I was going to lend you my mask, but I thought this would be more appropriate.” Daehyun smiled. “Do you like it?”

Your eyes grew wet at his sweet consideration. “I love it. Thank you, oppa. It’s perfect. Now I don’t have to worry about being the ugly duckling of the party.”

“Silly Yeojin.” Daehyun clasped the mask around your mouth and bumped his forehead against yours lightly. “You were never the ugly duckling.” Your eyes twinkled, and he smiled back. “Now you’re the one with the mask on.” He tickled your belly, and you giggled.

Ding Dong.

“Oh! I think Eunhae is here!” Your words came out muffled.

There was a knock on the door, and Zelo popped inside, “Noona, your ride is here.”

Daehyun stood up and held his hand out, “May I you to the door?” Beaming, you nodded. He led you down the stairs and into the limo. You waved goodbye and went inside. Eunhae and you waved at Daehyun as he became smaller in the distance. She turned to you and lightly nudged your knee, “Girl, you look beautiful. Love your dress and that mask. So unique.”

“Thanks. Daehyun oppa got it for me.” You beamed.

“Your mouth is covered, but I can see your smile shining brightly as the moon.” Eunhae teased.

You chuckled. Before you knew it, both of you had arrived at the Kim Manor.

The maids let you enter the gigantic mansion. It was your second time here, and the place still amazed you. You couldn’t recognize anyone because of their beautiful masks. A boy bumped into you from behind. He bowed, “Excuse me.” You didn’t recognize his face behind the mask, but you noticed his shy lisp right away. “Sehun?” He blinked and pulled his black mask away from his face. “Oh! Yeojin?”

Smiling, you nodded, “Yeah, it’s me.”

“Your mask…” Sehun tilted his head.

“Oh. Wisdom teeth.” You whispered. “Ah, I see.” Sehun nodded in understanding.

“Do you know where Kai is?” You asked. “Yes. I’ll you.” He held out his elbow.

“Thanks, Sehun.” You smiled appreciatively. Sehun put his mask back on and led you into the main room. It was decorated fabulously with snowflakes and colorful tinsels. There was even an ice sculpture with punch flowing out in a fountain right behind it. “There he is.” Sehun pointed to your group of friends. Chorong and Eunji looked lovely in their satin dresses. “Yeojin is here.” Sehun announced. “Yeojin!” The girls ran towards you. You ran up to greet them, and they enveloped you in a warm hug. They fawned over your dress and mask. “You look beautiful!” “So stylish!” You giggled, “Thank you. Both of you look beautiful as well.”

“Yes, just ignore the host.” A voice said. You looked up to see Kai dressed all in white with a white mask that covered his sparkling eyes.

“Oops,” Sheepishly, you smiled, “Sorry, Kai.” You gave him a hug as well.

“What’s with the mask? It covers half your face up.” He said.

“That’s kind of the point.” Eunhae came out of nowhere, “Her wisdom teeth operation, remember?”

“Oh, yeah! Take it off! I want to see what you look like!” Kai demande
