#2. Old Man
NeffyShortiesTaeyeon sat as straight as she could manage. She almost could hear the cracking sound from her backbone. Slowly, she cut her meat into pieces. Afraid to make any inappropriate chewing sound, she swallowed the meal without caring about the consistency.
Needless to say, she wasn’t enjoying her dinner.
“Do you like book, Taeyeon?”
“Um, I like comics.”
“That’s children’s book.” Mr. Hwang wiped the corner of his mouth. “I mean real book with real content.”
“Err… Packed lines in one page hurt my eyes,” Taeyeon answered honestly. She glanced up to Tiffany finding her girlfriend smiled encouragingly at her.
“Oh well, I thought since I am a writer, we could discuss some interesting idea. Guess not,” he chuckled. “By the way, how’s the steak, Taeyeon? Good?”
Taeyeon smiled stiffly. “Very good, sir.”
The man had a satisfied look plastered on his face. “I specifically ask my butcher friend for the best fresh meat.”
“F – fresh?” Taeyeon repeated dumbly.
“Yes. He butchered the cow this morning. Told him my daughter is bringing her girlfriend along.” Mr. Hwang nodded.
“O – oh. T – thank you?” Taeyeon squeaked.
“You’re very much welcome!”
Not much to Taeyeon delight, this family had an evening tea tradition. If it were up to her, she’d pass without hesitancy. But of course, she couldn’t not join.
Asking permission from his daughter to get to know Taeyeon more, Mr. Hwang invited the short girl outside. So here Taeyeon was, at the terrace with one and only Mr. Hwang himself.
“Lovely night, isn’t it?”
“Yes, sir.” Taeyeon used the cup to hide her face. She sipped the hot bitter water carefully.
