“So… this is it, huh?” Sooyoung asked as she stirred her drink. “Are you sure you won’t regret it? Literally, Tiff, you can’t just run away after I do.”

The other girl shrugged uncertainly. She took a bite of the avocado toast and had a sip of the black coffee before answering, “at this point, well, what am I waiting for? Her companies will still stand for… maybe forever. She’s not going to be poor – not that I ever want it to happen – but it means she’s going to be in the spotlight forever. She’s–”

“Media didn’t lie when they call your fiancée Eligible Bachelorette Of The Year.” Sooyoung commented while wriggling her brows.

“Really now?” Tiffany increased her brow, annoyed.

“You are also no less than eligible bachelorette, Tiff. You know I’m just messing around.” The tall girl laughed at her friend’s expression.

“Not that, you silly. You wriggling your eyebrows like that. It’s disturbing.” Tiffany rolled her eyes.

Sooyoung only laughed lauder.

They were having a brunch after a while. Tiffany moved in with Taeyeon a little over a year ago. Since then, they didn’t get to spend much time together like they used to. There were a few things about Tiffany that Sooyoung noticed was different, so to say. It couldn’t be just her… right? Tiffany sat a little too straight. The way she cut her toast was also a bit too stiff, she didn’t talk while chewing, she made direct eye contact through out the conversation, her voice sounded deeper and composed, very unusual.

“Okay, real talk, though. I don’t know how you’re dealing things with Taeyeon right now. But are you going to quit your job? Frankly, your answer should be no. That way at least I know there’s still part of you that I recognize.”

“What do you mean?”

Sooyoung told Tiffany her observation for the past hour. The latter then explained that she had taken manner class three times a week. It was not fun most of the time. Taeyeon said she didn’t have to do it if she didn’t want to but her parents’ eyes said it all do it or you’re going to have a really hard time.

“You sacrifice a lot to be with her, Tiff.”

“As she does for me, too. Regarding your question, yes, nothing will change. I’ll be doing my job as usual. I’ll do my best to get promotion and maybe someday in the future, I’ll open my own digital media company.”

Sooyoung knew better not to say something like you can have your company by tomorrow, just ask your fiancée. She valued their friendship. This statement could send it straight to the deep hole and it’d be hell to gain it back.

However, she was curious.

“What did Taeyeon’s parents say about your decision? Look, it is really weird to ask about their opinion. I mean, you parents let you do you. She lets you do you. But somehow, I know they must have said something.”

“They’re not happy.” Tiffany said truthfully. “As modern as they try to be, there are still traditional concepts in their heads. Taeyeon has to be married to someone. Be it to a girl or to a guy. Preferably before she turns thirty. Whoever ends up with her, they have to follow her, support her, serve her, avoid scandal, do charity – all to make Taeyeon good in front of the world. Basically they want a maid, slave, whatever you want to call it.”

Sooyoung blinked rapidly. “You’re okay with that?”

“Aside from charity, of course no. But Taeyeon reacted faster and strongly refuse the idea so I didn’t have to say anything.”

“What did she say?”

“That I am my own person. That she or her parents don’t own me, so I can be and can do whatever I want. That she’s looking for a partner and not a maid. She added ‘I have too many of them anyway.’” Tiffany giggled at the last part. “No kidding though, she has like… one person for literally one task. It’s getting better now. Her parent cut all of her servants to show how difficult it is to do everything on her own as a punishment for being ungrateful and rude. Well guess what? We take switch on doing laundry, cooking, basically all house chores. We’re doing good.”

“I’m glad.”

Tiffany smile was filled with gratitude. “She makes everything bearable. I’d be a fool if I didn’t ask her to marry me.”
