You Found Me

Friday. 18 Novermber.

It looks like a normal day to everyone. But in my school, it felt like there’s something big going on.

Well, of course it is a special day, especially for some girls.

Because today is Jin Young’s birthday.

“Look at Jin Young oppa, struggling to take the presents.” Yuri said. We were sitting at one of the tables outside the cafeteria. We could see Jin Young nodding and smiling at that bunch of girls inside the school.

“Oh, remember during middle school, someone wanted to give him a kiss as a present? That was hilarious!” Hana laughed.

“A kiss?” I asked.

“Yes a kiss!” they started explaining to me how did it happen.

“Hello!” a familiar voice called.

“Hello Gong Chan oppa.” I said. He sat next to me and started laughing. “Ommo, look at hyung!”

“Famous as ever.” Shin Woo said. “I’m jealous.”

“Don’t worry, I’m sure you have a lot of fans too.” I said.

“Yeah.” Sandeul who just came said. “Even those who graduated came back just to see him.”

“Really?” I asked.

“Don’t listen to him.” Shin Woo said.

“H-hey.”

I looked up and saw Jin Young carrying lots of bags, Baro was next to him.

“You made him carry them?” Yuri raised her eyebrows.

They drop the bags on the table and sat down.

“Wow! My favourite chocolate!” Sandeul said, already opening the box.

“This is cute!” Hana took out a plush toy and hug it. Each of them started going through his presents while I sip my drink.

“Sorry I’m late.” Jin Young said. “Did you wait for us long?”

Before I could answer, Shin Woo slung an arm around me. “It’s alright she’s doing fine without you. Right Mia?” he winked. I just laughed and nodded.

“Since when you two get so close?” he asked.

“Hmm…” I tapped my chin. “Just now?” I turned to Shin Woo.

“That’s right, baby.”

“B-baby? Yah.” Jin Young pushed him away. “I don’t like it.”

“I did not ask for your opinion.” Shin Woo said, scooting nearer to me.

“Hey, relax.” I said, pushing Jin Young away.

“You heard her, relax.”

Jin Young looked at me then to Shin Woo. He sighed and sat beside Gong Chan.

“Mia, say ahh!” Gong Chan put a piece of chocolate in my mouth before I could protest.

I nodded to thank him.

“Delicious, right?” he asked. I nodded again.

“Wait, aren’t these Jin Young oppa’s presents?”

The boys started laughing. “Don’t worry. I’m sure he don’t mind.”

“Yeah, go ahead.” Jin Young said.

“That’s mean.” I said.

The bell rang as Gong Chan put another piece of chocolate in my mouth.

“Yah, stop feeding her.” Jin Young shoved him away, causing him to hit his elbow.

“Hyung, it hurts!”

I stood up and took my books. “Hana, class.”

“Oh, right.”

“How about Yuri?” Shin Woo asked.

“I’m free till 5th period.” She said, still going through Jin Young’s presents.

“Do you want me to walk you to class?” he asked.

I shook my head. “It’s alright, Hana’s with me.”

“It hurts.” Gong Chan fake a sob next to me.

“Let me see.” I said, looking at his elbow. I blew on the red spot. “Better?”

He nodded happily. I couldn’t resist but to pat his head.

“I’ll see you later, okay?”

“Okay!” he said, smiling widely.

“Hey… how come you don’t pat my head?” Jin Young pouted.

Hana hook her arm around mine and grab my books. “Because you ain’t cute like Gong Chan oppa.”

“Mean!” he said. “Sandeul, your sister is so mean!”

“Huh? Whatcha said?”

“Eww, your mouth is full of chocolate brother!” Hana said. “Let’s get out of here.”

-

“Stop!” Hana said. Yuri and I froze on the spot. “He’s there!”

The three of us quickly hide at the corner of the wall and peek out.

Jin Young was surrounded with a bunch of girls holding big bags.

“Good to be famous.” Yuri said.

“He’s really nice isn’t he.” I said.

They both turned and looked at me.

“I mean.” I added. “He accepts all their gifts.”

“Well, that’s Jin Young oppa. He’s always nice.”

The reason why we’re hiding is because we told the boys we had extra classes today. The truth is, we don’t. The three of us are supposed to leave after school to prepare Jin Young’s surprise birthday celebration while the boys will bring him somewhere before taking him back to Hana’s house.

“Come on, what’s taking him so long.”

“Eww, look at her.” Yuri pointed.

“Wow! Is that what I think it is?” Hana said.

While the two are busy spying on him, I just lean my back against the wall and smile at some students that were passing by with a weird expression on their faces.

“Ommo, isn’t that Jin Ah?”

I looked up after hearing that name.

“Eww, what is she doing?” Hana said.

“What is she doing?” I repeated.

“She’s hugging him.” Yuri whispered.

I found myself frowning. I went closer to Yuri so I could see what they were doing. But Yuri pushed me further in as Hana hissed. “He’s coming!”

The three of us looked down and pretend that we’re reading Hana’s book.

“Wow, you have such horrible hand writings.” Yuri said.

“Shut up!”

I lifted my head slightly and saw them walking down the corridor.

Jin Ah’s was hugging Jin Young’s arm. What surprise me is that there were no other girls surrounding him.

Looks like it’s great to be the school president’s daughter.

Hana closed her book. “Okay he left, let’s go!”

I took a last look at them before leaving. I saw Jin Ah leaning her head on his shoulder as she giggles.

I could really throw a shoe at her right now.

-

“Cake, checked, Balloons, checked. Paint, checked….”

Hana was busy ticking the list as we board the bus.

“Did we missed out anything?” I asked.

“Nope.”

“Good.” Yuri said. “Now I really need some food.”

Once we arrived at Hana’s house, we headed straight to the basement aka B1A4’s practice room. We started moving all the instruments aside and took out the things we bought.

Hana started inflating the balloons while Yuri and I put out a banner and started painting HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUN JIN YOUNG.

This is the first time I’ve ever prepare someone’s birthday, it was really exciting.

We got paint all over ourselves and Hana was busy playing with the balloon, speaking to us in this really high pitch voice.

Things were getting pretty fun until my phone rang.

“Ommo, who is it?” Yuri asked, in her chipmunk voice. I couldn’t help but to laughed.

But soon I stop laughing when I saw the caller ID. It was my stepmother.

“Hello?”

“Where are you?” she asked.

“Erm, friend’s house.”

“What are you doing there? Get home.”

“I’m doing a project.” I lied.

“Your father’s company is having a dinner tonight. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten.”

I knew about it, I just don’t feel like going. I’ve been skipping it for the pass 2years. I don’t see why I have to attend all of a sudden.

“My project is due next week.”

“For god sake, you have a whole weekend to finish it. You’re the CEO’s daughter, you better be there. I’m so sick of covering you up for the past few years.”

CEO’s daughter. I don’t feel like one.

“Get home now.”

“There’s no need to rush.” I said dully. “There’s 3more hours till the dinner.”

“So now you remembered.” She scoffed. “The hairstylists are coming in a few minutes. Your father bought you a dress, so you better wear it. I don’t want you turning up looking like a freaking—oh hello dear!”

I couldn’t help but to rolled my eyes and hung up. Such a two face. I sighed and lean my head against the wall.

“What happen?” Hana asked.

“Who was that? What dinner?” Yuri added.

I looked at them and exhaled. “Looks like I’ll have to be somewhere first.”

-

Jin Young and the rest of the boys arrived at Sandeul’s house later in the evening. He was surprised to see Yuri there.

“Hello! Are you guys’ hungry?”

They were watching TV while munching on some snacks.

“Where’s Mia?” Jin Young couldn’t help but to asked.

“Oh she went home.” Hana said, eyes glued to the screen.

“You mean she came earlier?”

“Yeah she-, I mean she went home straight from school.” Hana lied.

“Oh.”

Jin Young couldn’t help but to feel disappointed. He wanted to ask her to spend a day with him today but he didn’t have a chance during lunch break. And when he called her, she didn’t pick up. Come to think of it, Mia didn’t even wish him yet.

Did she forget? It can’t be. It’s quite obvious it’s his birthday today.

“Hey, I feel like jamming.” Shin Woo said, grabbing Sandeul’s shoulder.

“Yeah, me too. Come on, shall we?”

The boys nodded. Jin Young just laugh and followed them down the basement.

But before could even walked down the stairs, someone blind folded him.

“What the-?”

-

“Mr. Jang, meet my daughter, Mi Yan.”

I bowed at the man in front of me and smiled.

“Oh yes I remembered you. You’ve really grow up well.”

I don’t even know who he is, but I just thank him.

After greeting a few more people, I went back to the table and sat down. I took off my heels and massage my legs.

Urgh, who invented heels.

“Mi Yan.” I heard my stepmother called.

“What.” I mumbled.

“Seriously.” She said. “Do you have to do this in public?”

“It hurts.”

She shook her head. “Stop sitting down and go talk to some people. Look.” she pointed. “He’s son is about your age, go talk to him.”

“Not interested.”

“Just go talk to him, for the sake of your father.”

I stood up. “Father. You always use his name against me. I don’t want to talk to him. No, I don’t want to talk to anyone. Just leave me alone.”

She grabbed my arm and led me out of the ballroom.

“What is your problem? Don’t you care about your father? Don’t you care about the company?”

“I don’t care about the company.”

“Right.” she rolled her eyes. “You only care about music. No wonder he’ll give his company to Hyun Jung.”

I flinched at that name.

“If only Hyun Jung is here, he would definitely make –”

“Stop saying that name.” I said.

She looked at me. “What’s wrong with saying my son’s name?”

I hate him.

I pulled away from her and put on my heels that I was holding. “I need to use the washroom.”

“Don’t you run away.” She hissed before leaving me.

-

Jin Young blew the candles and the lights came on.

“Yay! Hyung, you’re old!” Baro said, clapping his hands.

“Yah.”

Sandeul handed Jin Young the knife. “Come on, cut it!”

“You just can’t wait to eat it.” Jin Young muttered.

Sandeul grinned and nodded.

Soon everyone sat down and started chatting with each other. But Jin Young wasn’t really listening. He was busy thinking about Mia.

Where is she?

-

“Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for attending our company’s dinner. First of all, I would like to….”

I stir my drink with the straw while my father gave a speech on stage. My stepmother was busy admiring him next to me.

Pathetic.

I fork a piece of cake and put it in my mouth.

“Eating while someone is giving a speech? Where are your manners?” my stepmother scoffed.

Whatever.

As I took a sip of my drink, I felt my purse vibrating.

It was Hana.

“Excuse me.” I bowed and left the table before my stepmother can stop me.

“Hello?” I said when I reached outside.

“Hey girl! Still there?”

“Yup. How was the party? Was he surprised?”

“Yeah! You should see his face! I took pictures! Oh, we’re going to Han River after the boys shower. Can you come?”

“I, I don’t know Hana.”

“You can sleepover at my house if you want too. The rest are all staying over. My parents won’t mind.”

“Well…er…it’s quite hard for me to leave right now.”

I heard some noise behind as we spoke.

“Try to come, okay? I know oppa wants you here.”

I felt bad when Hana said that. I can’t believe I ditch Jin Young’s birthday celebration for some lame company dinner.

“Okay. I’ll figure it out.”

-

It was 10.30pm. The others are out at Han River playing fire crackers and bubbles by the side.

Hana was taking pictures of the boys chasing Jin Young with the fire crackers while Yuri was laughing at the corner.

It was a fun birthday to celebrate with his closest friends. They made him played treasure hunt to find his presents. They played games and those who lost have to be drawn on their faces. They raced all the way from Sandeul’s house with their bicycles to Han River.

But yet he still felt empty.

Mia. The missing piece, is still not around,

He sat on the grass and look at the fire cracker as it slowly burned. The boys and Yuri were spinning theirs to make an L.O.V.E effect on the camera.

He laughed when he saw Baro was struggling to make an ‘E’ shape.

“Not joining them?” a voiced asked.

“Nah, I’m just….” Jin Young stopped as he looked up and saw the face that he wanted to see all night.

-

I tried my best not to make a sound while speeding off from the ballroom.

Now where’s the entrance….oh there it is!

I started walking normally when some people are giving me a weird look.

“Mi Yan?” a voiced call.

That voice. Uh-oh.

“D-dad.”

“Where are you going?” he asked me.

Crap did he follow me?

“Washroom.”

“It’s not that way dear. It’s over there.” He pointed.

“Okay.” I said.

He nodded but didn’t walk away.

Come on, move. No, don’t come to me.

“Are you leaving?” he asked.

I was contemplating whether to go back inside with him or run away right now.

“It’s okay. You can go.”

W-what?

“I’ve been looking at you the whole day. You look like you need to be somewhere urgently.”

Yes I do.

He put his hand on my shoulder. “I’ll get my driver okay?”

I shook my head.

“It’s late. It’s dangerous out there.” He took his phone out and started dialing.

“Dad.” I called.

He held his hand up as he spoke. “Where to?” he asked me.

“H-han River.”

He looked at me for a second before telling the person on the line.

“Alright, settle.” He put his phone inside his pocket. “Don’t be home late.”

“Erm, can I, stay over?”

He gave me a suspicious look.

“It’s a girl, don’t worry. We need to work on a project.” I lied.

“Alright. Give me a call tomorrow and I’ll come pick you up okay?”

I nodded.

He smiled and patted my head. “Take care, my little princess.” He gave me a kiss on my forehead and left.

I touched my forehead as I got into the car.

That’s my nickname since young. I miss being called by that name. Maybe I was wrong about my dad. Maybe he doesn’t hate me at all.

“Not joining them?” I asked, trying not to pant hard.

“Nah, I’m just….” He stopped and looked.

“M-mia.”

He eyed me from head to toe.

“I know.” I said, looking at myself. “Stop looking at me like that.”

I sat down and pulled my coat lower to cover my legs but failed.

“Aish, never mind I’ll stand.” I said.

“Mia!” Yuri called from down. I waved at them.

“Come on.” I said, pulling Jin Young up. “Why so gloomy?”

-

Jin Young looked at the Mia as she loosens her bun. Her hair was slightly curly as she let it fall. She took off her heels and put it at aside and joined the girls.

“She’s hot.” Shin Woo said.

“Yeah she-…Shut up.”

He laughed. “She’s here already, stop looking so emotional. Go to her!”

Shin Woo pushed Jin Young towards Mia who was playing with the camera.

“Smile!” she said and snap before Jin Young could even prepare. She looked back at the photo and laughed.

“Your face!” she continued laughing. But Jin Young had his eyes on something else.

“You’re wearing it.” he said.

“Hmm?” she looked up, smiling.

“The necklace.”

She touched her neck and nodded. “You should have told me.”

“Surprise.” He laughed.

“Well. Don’t do it again. But thank you, I love it.” she smiled.

They stared at each other for a moment until Mia broke the silence.

“Come on, I want to play too.” She said, taking his hands in hers.

Jin Young smiled as he followed her. This was the first time she held his hand voluntarily. He couldn’t help but to blush.

-

“Alright we’re going home.”

“What?” I said. “But I just reached!”

Hana laughed and patted my back. “Not you silly. You’re staying. We’re going.”

“Huh? Me alone?” I asked.

The rest got onto their bikes.

“No. You and me.” Jin Young said, smiling.

“What the…”

“Because you’re late.” Hana said. “So now you have to spend time with birthday boy.”

“B-but..”

Hana hopped onto Sandeul’s bike. “See you guys at home! You got the keys right?”

Jin Young nodded.

“Bye!”

“Yah, wait, don’t ju-.” Jin Young held my arm.

“Shall we?” he said.

I sighed. “Okay.”

“So..how’s your day? He asked.

Before I knew it, I started ranting about the dinner party. All he did was nod his head.

He told me what they did earlier as he swings our hands.

“Oh!” I stopped. “Happy birthday.”

He looked at me and laughed. “Thank you.”

“Erm, about your present….”

“Oh, right. No one gave me a clue.”

“Well, there’s none actually.”

“Hmm?”

“I er..” I looked down at the ground. “I forgot to bring your present.”

I was still looking on the ground until he burst out laughing.

“S-sorry.” I mumbled.

“No, I just…haha.” He continued laughing.

“I’ll give it to you next week.” I said.

He shook his head and ruffled my hair. “Oh Mia, come here.”

He pulled me into a hug and rested his chin on my shoulder.

“Oppa…”

“Just for a while.” He held me tighter. I swear I felt his lips slightly brushed through my neck.

I didn’t know what to do. My arms were still hanging by my sides. This is the first time he hug me like this. No, this is not our first time…

“What are you thinking?” he asked.

“Erm…”

I stopped talking when he my back.

“Are you cold?”

“Hmm.”

He pulled away and held my hands in his.

“Still cold?”

Seriously? Holding hands? I prefer hugs.

“Aish.” He flicked my head as if he read my mind.

“Hey!”

He laughed. “Come on, let’s grab something hot.”

I nodded.

We walked towards where Jin Young parked his bicycle hand in hand.

“Hold my waist.” He said to me when I got on the back.

“It’s okay, I’ll hold here.”

He sighed and grabbed my hands, wrapping it around his waist.

“Fast or slow?”

“Slow please.”

“Okay.”

He started pedaling as fast as he could. I held onto him tightly and buried my face on his back.

“J-jin Young!”

He laughed. “I knew you’ll do that.”

I looked up and saw him smiling. He slowed down, swinging the bike left to right.

“Yah…” I poke his back. He chuckled and stopped.

“You must be tired.” He said. “Close your eyes.”

“Hmm…”

I leaned my head against his back and close my eyes. I could feel the wind softly blowing on my face. Jin Young was humming to a song as he took a right turn.

“Oppa.” I said.

“Yeah?”

“Are you mad at me?”

He chuckled. “How can I be mad when you’re here with me?”

I smiled.

-

“Are you free tomorrow?” he asked as I sip my drink. We were taking a stroll at a park nearby.

“Y-yeah, I guess.”

“Good. Let’s go out.”

Again?

“With the rest?” I asked.

“Nope, just the two of us.”

“But-”

“You owe me for ditching me on my birthday.”

“Oh…”

He took my free hand and put it in his sweater pocket.

“Better?” he smiled. I nodded.

We drank in silence until I saw a playground.

“Oppa, let’s go!” I said.

“Yah. How old are you.” he teased.

“Yesh. There’s no one here right now. Besides, there’s nothing wrong playing at a playground.”

He laughed. “Alright. Finish up your drink.”

We tossed our empty cups in the rubbish bin and walked inside.

I brushed off some leaves on the swings and sat down.

“Do you want me to push you?” he asked.

“It’s okay I’ll- wow!”

Jin Young pulled me backwards.

“Yah!”

I heard him laughing as he grab the string and swing me higher.

This is fun.

“W-wait. Stop.”

I put my legs down on the ground and turned to him.

“Don’t stand there, let’s ride together.”

“Okay.” He smiled. “Get down.”

“Get….down? Why?”

“Just get down.” He said and walked towards me.

I regretted getting off that swing. Because he made me stand on it, with him.

“We’re not supposed to stand on it!” I said, holding onto the swing.

“Okay. Do you want to sit on my lap then?” he grinned.

“W-what no!”

“But you said you want to ride together.” He pouted.

“Yes I did. But not in this way!”

He laughed. “Hold me.”

“No.”

“Just trust me.”

“No! I think I’m getting do-. DON’T SWING IT!”

He started moving his body and the swing followed.

“Oh my god oh my god, stop!”

It was fun in a way, but it was scary too.

“I d-don’t want to fall!” I screamed.

“Don’t worry, I won’t let that happen.” He said and swings it harder.

“B-but, I will!”

He smiled. “Then I’ll catch you.”

I shook my head. “Stop, please stop. This is scary!”

“Why? It’s fun!” he laughed.

I screamed again when I slip, I let go the bar I was holding and grab onto him.

Wrong move.

He lost balance and fell. Well, I fell with him too.

I closed my eye hoping to feel the pain as I fell down, but the ground was surprising soft.

I open my eyes and saw that I landed on Jin Young instead of the floor.

“Ommo, oppa. Oppa, are you alright?”

Jin Young’s eyes were closed. He was just lying on the ground.

“O-oppa?” I said again, shaking him a little. He did not move.

“Oh my god, wake up! Yah! Can you hear me?” I shook him harder.

Did he hit his head?I put my hands at the back of his head and lifted it up.

Before I could even check for bruises, he suddenly opened his eyes and shot up.

“Baaaaaah!!”

I screamed so loud that even the next country could hear it.

He was laughing hard as he held onto my arms.

“You haha…” he kept on laughing.

I took my hands off his head and put it on his shoulder.

“Idiot! You scared me!” I could feel tears forming in my eyes as my vision got blurred. “I thought you fainted!”

“S-sorry.” he continued laughing, but stopped when he realized I wasn’t.

“Hey.” He wiped my tears with his thumb. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“Well you did.” I mumbled.

He smiled and rubbed the apple of my cheek with both of his thumbs.

I looked up and our eyes met. I didn’t even know our faces were just inches away from each other.

My heart beat started accelerating. And it pound harder when I realized I was basically straddle in between his legs.

My mind told me to move, but my body wasn’t listening.

Jin Young stopped caressing my cheek and cupped my face. I could feel his hot breath on my lips as he started to lean in.

Oh my god. Is he going to kiss me?

I was literally frozen on the spot, just staring straight behind him. I couldn’t even close my eyes.

His lips slightly brushed against mine until I felt something vibrating. I jumped and pushed him away.

“Erm, p-phone.”

He looked dazed when I fumbled for my phone.

“H-hello.” I said. Oh my god, am I panting?

“Hey little princess, I was just wondering have you arrived at your friend’s home.”

Dad…

“Y-yeah. We’re getting ready for bed now.”

“Okay. Sleep well my dear. Good night.”

“G-good night.” I said and hung up.

I stared at my phone for a while until I felt a hand on my arm.

“Erm, sorry.” Jin Young said without looking at me.

“I-it’s okay. Let’s erm, go home.”

“Yeah.” he said. He turned back to me but quickly turned away.

“Y-your…your dress.” He said.

I looked down and saw myself freaking exposed. I pushed myself up and straighten my dress.

The ride home was quiet. The rest were upstairs as the living room is empty.

“Sleep well, okay?” Jin Young said to me as we reached the first floor.

“Yeah. You too.”

He nodded. “Good night.”

I grabbed onto his arm before he could enter the room.

Do it Mia, just do it. Now.

“Yes?” he said.

I went up to him and kissed him on his cheek.

He eyes widen as I pulled away. “You…”

“Good night.” I smiled and ran into Hana’s room.
