The things she loves
Safe and Sound
It’s nice to go home once in a while. The fresh wind outside the house feels welcoming and the serene atmosphere of the whole street we’re walking in is very nice and makes it all better. Myeon Hee is silently walking beside me. She is constantly staring at the trees and the flowers that we are passing by.
“You really love flowers?” I ask to which she smiles. I think this girl really loves smiling. I think she originally has a bubbly personality. I want to see her cheerful expression soon.
“I like how they make no effort to be beautiful.” She simply says.
“No effort?” I say and she nods.
“Do you think flowers know how beautiful they are?” She suddenly asks me which makes me speechless. It’s amusing how she can ask questions like that. “They are very lovely.” She says and smiles to the flowers. She’s very amusing and I’m really surprised.
As we reach the nearby park, I see her lips curved in an O shape as she sees the fountain that is the main sight of the park. “Wow…” The heavenly look on her eyes gives a great relief to me. She is fascinated by the fountain and I feel like little by little, she’s starting to get over what happened. “This is really beautiful.” She looks up and sees how the water rises and falls. It’s endearing. I wish umma and appa were here to see how she is having great improvements so far.
“Do you want to sit there?” I point a bench at our back. We can sit there and she can have the full view of the fountain. She can spoil herself to the moving water however she likes. She nods and I lead her there.
“This is wonderful.” She utters with her hands clasped together on her lap. She is staring intently – as if watching it’s every moment – not missing any part of the water’s dance. Oh. I suddenly remember this fountain holds its own show during the night where waters appear with different light colors and it dances according to the music. Once she’s fully healed and okay, I promise to bring her back here during the night where she can see how more beautiful this fountain can be.
We sit there silently – not conversing but we know in ourselves that we are enjoying our time in the park. I, too, found the fountain very fascinating as I stare for it for too long. I glance at Myeon Hee. She’s still smiling. Can I store a mini fountain at the garden so she won’t need to go here for this?
Aside from flowers, I’ll take note Myeon Hee loves fountains.
“Sunbae!!” My attention is diverted when someone calls me out. I look at the direction of the voice. I see three young boys running towards us. They are like between 16-17 years old. “Onew-sunbae!! You’re here!” They say and greet me politely. I smile back at them. These kids from my highschool always give respect whenever I’m here. It feels good to know the younger ones never forget this to be courteous.
“Hey, kids, how is school? Are you doing well?” I don’t know them personally, but this town has made me feel like all the people are my family, so I never fail to treat everybody alike. They nod brightly.
“The school is holding a science fair 2 days from now, sunbae. You should come see us!” They invite me. I also wish I could go there, but I think I will be very busy during that time. I will be in Seoul practicing with the members.
“I’ll try, but you know sunbae can’t promise. You just do well on the Science Fair and make sure our school ranks one out of all the school in town.” I say and grin at them. They all nod.
“Of course!” They shout happily. One of them notices I’m with Myeon Hee. “Sunbae… who is she?” They ask.
I look at her and she looks back. We are probably thinking the same thing. How can I introduce her? And how should she be introduced?
“She’s a dongsaeng.” I simply utter but it made the three frown and raise their eyebrows.
“But sunbae…” One boy says and the three look at each other as if they’re suspicious of something. “I thought you are an only child?” They ask.
“Oh yeah… well.” I am out of words about what to say. I am stuck and looking at her for help. She just looks back and smiles. She shrugs her shoulders at me and I know I am suddenly in trouble.
“Yaahhh…. Onew-sunbae~~” They utter in a teasing manner. “We know. We know. We promise we won’t tell it to anyone!! This is just within our town, we promise!” I frown with what they are saying.
“What?”
They all turn to Myeon Hee and smile, “It’s nice meeting you here, noona.” They say. “Onew sunbae is a real nice guy. He will definitely take care of you!!” They utter happily and I am speechless. Myeon Hee smiles and just nods. “We might be disturbing you so we need to go now, hyung. Goodluck to you and noona!!” They say and start running away. “By the way, do well on your next album, sunbae!! We are supporting SHINee!!! Fighting!” They shout when they are already far away.
I look at her embarrassed of what the kids have done. She looks back at me – rather confused. I scratched my head. Why am I being so stupid in front of her? This is not right.
“I’m sorry… those kids.. really.” I apologize.
“What album? Who’s SHINee?” She asks and her head sideways curious of what it is. Oh crap. I haven’t told her what I do and how I live my life – and I think umma hasn’t told her about it, too. I smile at her and stand up.
“Shall we walk home? You’ve told me about yourself, I think I have to introduce myself to you formally this time.” I say.
