When Yugyeom Sees Shin-ae

“Where are you?” Jaebum’s voice echoed through the line. “I just bought coffee, calm down.” Yugyeom chuckled and took a rather loud sip of his steaming coffee as proof. “You better hurry up. You might die out in the cold.”
After bickering for a moment, they said their goodbyes and cut the line. Yugyeom shoved his phone into the pocket of his coat as he strolled down the streets of snowy Seoul.
It was finally December and the snow fell on the ground like feathers. The Christmas lights were bright and children raced around, playing with the cold snow.
Yugyeom liked the season. He liked the snow and how cold it was. He liked the fact that the nights were longer than the days and the sun was barely out. But the only thing that caused a frown on his face was the memories it had.
It had probably been a year since everything happened but the way he remembered every detail made it seem like it had just happened yesterday. His heart ached every time he replayed it in his mind.
Yugyeom had his other hand stuffed into his pocket while the other held onto the paper cup, filled with coffee. This was a routine of his. Every third week of December, he would go to his favourite coffee shop and buy himself a cup.
At that time, when he told Shin-ae about his yearly routine, she laughed a little but then wondered. “Why on the exact Friday of the third week?” She asked him.
He then would smile and curl a piece of her hair behind her ear, “They make the best tasting coffee on that Friday.” He mumbled and gave her a soft kiss on the top of her head.
Yugyeom remembered that scene like it was the back of his hand. They were sprawled on the couch of her apartment, watching some chick flicks that she loved with mugs of hot cocoa on the coffee table—which she also loved.
He had his arms wrapped around her as they shared their Christmas stories to each other, almost forgetting about the movie that was playing in front of them.
