CHAPTER 35

Three years ago…

It had already been a month since she experienced coma. And just like another day, I still got the same scene this morning. The one I loved still was laying unconsciousness with many life supporting tools were attached all over her petite body. This scene, less or more, caused my tears again. As usual, I approached her. I closed my eyes and dropped a kiss on her forehead. I caressed her hair and greeted:”Good morning, Taetae” though I had already known she couldn’t hear me and wouldn’t greet me back. Then as my routine as well, I’d stare her for a moment, wondered if she could feel what I felt. I her cheek again and whispered near her ears afterward. “Tae, no matter how long it will take time, I’d always been waiting for you. Don’t give up, my Taetae.”

Afterward, I remembered, the door was calmly opened and without cocking my head I also had already known who were coming. But still, I tilted my head and beamed smile toward “ommonim” and she as usual as well, would flashed me her best smile like another morning. Usually, not long afterward, Yulsic would catch up and join us as well. Taeyeon’s mother reached me into her hug and patted my back for some moment, just like a mother soothed her daughter. This is, for the first time, I felt like having a real mom I’d always been missing for.

“Tiffany,” she said feebly and threw me a concern look afterward. “Look at you. You seemed lost a lot of weight,” she uttered and shook her head. Her fingers touched my cheek softly. I wasn’t didn’t realize it; instead I’d already noticed it, but what could I do since I really didn’t have any appetite? Under those all circumstances how could I still thinking about keeping a good diet?

“You didn’t eat properly during this time, did you?” she threw me rhetorical questions.

“Omma,” I uttered. “All the things I concern about are only Taeyeon now,” I said bluntly.

“My daughter,” she said again, this time made me touched even more. “Do you have any idea how was my feeling discovering Taeyeon lie unconsciously like this?” She paused momentarily before going on. “I felt like dying…,” she trailed off. “So please, for me, eat properly and take very good care of yourself… Because I think if something bad happens to you, I’d never be able to bear it anymore… Would you?” she seemed pleading and I couldn’t help but nodded.

“Omma…, mianhae…,” I said and hugged her tight. She smiled complacently.

“Omma,” I spoke up again. “I think I want to go to the chapel near here,” I suddenly said. “Is it okay if I leave you for some moment?”

“Joha,” she nodded. “Take your time, Tiffany.”

So finally, here I was. Inside a small chapel behind the hospital, kneeling. It was pretty quiet here. After serenading “Our Father” prayer, I opened up my eyes, stared at the big cross attached against the wall, in front of me. It was looked like the Jesus Christ stared and smiled back at me, warmly. I gulped before putting my prayer. Finally, I let out the words into the whisper.

“My Lord… I know I had already made a lot of sins; but I believe as well You will always listen to our prayer. I know I perhaps don’t deserve it, but this time I really beg you, My Lord. You know I love Kim Taeyeon very much and I think I couldn’t stand to see her under this circumstance anymore… I really want her to be able to open up her eyes again, to be sober again, and to run her life normally, just like… some days before she met me.”

       I paused momentarily again.

“My Lord, if You desire me to stay away from her…,” I trailed off, felt so hard to fire away the next remarks. “As long as you grant my wish to make her sober again… I’d do my biggest sacrifice… I’d do it… This time I’d surely leave and stay away from her…”

“But if our destiny in this world hadn’t been over yet, please one day, just let us meet up again.”

       “Amen…”

Not long after finishing my prayer, my cell-phone vibrated. It was Jessica who’s calling.

“Yeah, Sica? What kind of drink yo…,” I answered, as I thought she’s about to order some drink and ask me to bring it for her.

“No… Tiffany,” she yelled, sounded so excited.

“I have very good news for you!!!”

At that time, I felt like clenching my fist too tight, as I had already guessed what she’s about to tell… I squinted with my eyes shut…

“Taeyeon had already sober! Come on, come here!!!”

Finally she released the words that making me smile broadly yet at the same time, let my tears streamed down unstoppably. I stared at the Jesus Christ again.

       “Thank you, Jesus,” I murmured.

“Tiffany??” I heard Jessica’s voice called out my name confusingly over there.

“Sica,” I uttered feebly. “I don’t think I’d back to see her again,” with that I ended the conversation (and ended my life as well).

PRESENT TIME

       No. No. No.

I saw her had already been few yards away, leaving my place. I couldn’t lose her anymore. Three years I had struggled hard to lose my feeling toward her, but I really couldn’t.

“God…,” I whispered silently. “My Generous God, please forgive me if You this time… If she’s really my destiny, this time let us been paired again… and don’t separate us again…”

With all my might, I shouted.

       “Kim Taeyeon!”

She stopped at her track and turned back, looked at me confusingly. I briskly approached her, and now was standing in front of her, creating few feet gap in between. I could see she struggled hard not to let her tears down, just same with me.

“If I told you that he wasn’t my child, will it make any difference?” I asked her, in the middle of my unsteady breath. She seemed surprised and looked at me in bemusement. I nodded and repeated once again.

“If now I’m telling you that Kyu Hun isn’t my child, will it make any difference?” this time I said firmer.

Surprisingly, she just stared at me for some moment, without saying anything. Taeyeon didn’t step forward. She didn’t approach me like I had expected. Otherwise, she slowly turned around and just left me…

“No… It won’t make any difference…,” she remarked before leaving, making me suddenly like got attack and spread some sting all around my body…

       Ache… Ache…

Oh… So… Now she didn’t have any feeling toward me anymore?

She must think that I’d been unfaithful, leaving her that way when she needed me so badly… Oh, Taeng, if only you knew… I’d passed through these three years painfully… There wasn’t a night I could sleep without not spending time to think about you… Can’t you read my mind now? Can’t you look into my eyes now and find what is inside?

       Love.

I’m miserably in love with you, Kim Taeyeon.

So this was the end of our story.

GOTCHA!

TAE

Discovering her remarks suddenly making me drifted into huge exultation! God! Thanks God! Am I dreaming??? She indicated that Kyu Hun wasn’t her child, rite? Oh, Tiffany Hwang… you’d almost made me die in excitement!!!

I smirked in amusement and a sudden thought just emerged on my mind. This time, despite of the way, I had to make her mine again! I promise to myself and to the world!

I approached to the nearly stage I’d been passed over few minutes ago then I climbed onto it. I felt so excited so I thought I’d even lost my mind. I didn’t care.

TIFF

“Tiffany?” a nasal voice suddenly was heard near my ear, but I just bothered to tilt my head, as my concentration all were just focused on the one who had already stood on the stage.

W-what? What did my beloved one do?? I widened my eyes in surprise.

“Owhhhh,” I heard Jessica gasped in surprise once I caught she noticed what I was looking at.

Another voice was chimed in. I recognized it as Yuri’s one. “Oh my God… I can’t believe it!”

She lifted Kyu Hun and carried him carefully, but didn’t let her sight out from the one who was planning something on the stage…

From above, Taeyeon’s eyes were only pinning on one spot that was no other than the one she had always been missing for. The one she loved. The one that she knew, she’d never let her go again. Her face was turning into bright one. Tiffany, similar with her, peered above, didn’t even let her sight out from the one she’d been waiting for during these three years.

(Taetae… Is it real? Is it you?)

After exchange some meaningful gaze, the intro was heard. Taeyeon grabbed the microphone. Everyone seemed just stopped at their track, willingly to know what was about to go on. Their curiosity had already made them pay attention to the stage.

For the first time after their row, she widened a sincere smile… Warm smile… The smile that Tiffany once thought she’d never see it again…

Starting by it, the serenade beautiful voice from the girl was released…

On the other side of a street I knew

Stood a girl that looked like you

I guess thats déjà vu

But I thought this can't be true

Cause you moved to west L.A or New York or Santa Fe

Or where ever to get away from me

Oh but that one night

Was more than just right

I didn't leave you cause

 I was all through

Oh I was overwhelmed, and frankly scared as hell

Because I really fell for you

Oh I swear to you

I'll be there for you

This is not a drive by

Just dorky girl looking for a two ply

Hefty bag to hold my love

When you move me everything is groovy

They don't like it sue meeither way you do me

Oh I swear to you

I'll be there for you

This is not a drive by

On the upside of a downward spiral

My love for you went viral

And I loved you every mile you drove away

But now here you are again

So let's skip the "Jal jinaessae"

And get down to the "marry me" at last

Oh but that one night

Is still the highlight

I didn't need you until I came to

and I was overwhelmed, and frankly scared as hell

Because I really fell for you

Taeyeon ended the song awesomely. She bowed to the audience, and… winked to the dumbfounded Tiffany. All the people listening and watching her just voluntarily clapped their hand excitingly, giving her a genuine applause for her great performance.

Tiffany felt couldn’t stop the water tickling down her cheeks now. But this time, not like the three years she had passed through… this time… she earned a happiness tears.

She… never changed… She’s still as dorky as ever…

She’s still my Taetae I used to know…

Taeyeon, still with her silly smile on her face, jumped out from the stage and hastily approached Tiffany. Their eyes met again. They stared each other again in the silence, but both of them already known afterward there were no more sorrowful tears again between them…

“Hi, Tiffany Hwang,” finally Taeyeon piped in and stepped forward, getting closer to the one who was still managing her tears.

Out from her expectation, Tiffany hastily jumped into her and peppered her with many “smack”…

“Babo! Babo! Babo! Babo! I hate you Kim Taeyeon! You made me cry again! Babo!” she said desperately while kept smacking the latter. Taeyeon widened her smile and let her did it… It was actually just a “lift hit”… Not even could kill a mosquito…

(Fanny~aaaa…just kept hitting me… do anything to me if I can make you mine again)

Finally Tiffany stopped it and Taeyeon just reached her into her hug. She hugged her very tightly and caressed her back for few moments… gently… tenderly… softly…

“Did you wanna to kill me by saying ‘it won’t make any difference’????? You did not have any idea that I was scary to the dead when you’re about to leave me again!!!! Babo!!!”

Taeyeon widened her smile and touched her cheek.

       “Mianhae…”

“Your babo girl came again… to see you…,” Taeyeon murmured. “I miss this side of you, Hwang…,” she murmured.

“And when I said ‘it won’t make any difference’… I was serious as well… because… my feeling toward you had never been changed, Tiffany… So… what difference I would make??? I know… I’d only spending the rest of my life by kept loving you…Only one.. It’s you, Tiffany Hwang…”

       “Taetae…,”  Tiffany seemed so speechless.

       “Taeyeon… Taetae… I miss you… miss you a lot…”

“I miss you more than a lot, Tiffany Hwang…”

“Mianhae, Tae… I didn’t mean to leave you when you…”

“Sssshhh…,” Taeyeon hushed her with putting her fingers to her lips.

“It’s unnecessary to tell, my Tiffany…”

“I know you’d already bear so many pains because of me during this time…,” Taeyeon continued.

“Taetae… This time I’d never let you go again…”

“And didn’t you hear it when I said: I swear to you, I’ll be there for you? All the lyrics I sang, Tiffany… really represented what I wanted to tell you…”

“Tae… You are my beloved silly girl…,” finally Tiffany beamed a broad smile.

“But I love you…,” she continued.

       “Nado saranghae, Tiffany,” Taeyeon replied.

       “Tae?” Tiffany called out cutely.

“Kiss me please? I was so ravenous about your kiss…,” Tiffany admitted bluntly. Her face now was getting blush. Taeyeon grinned witnessing how cute her girlfriend was.

“Which one? Forehead? Nose? Cheek? Or… your plum lips?” she teased, making the latter smiled coyly even more.

       “Taeyeon~aaa…,” she felt hotter.

“Ara… Ara, Fanny~aaa,” she couldn’t hold it anymore.

She angled her face and pulled Tiffany’s closer by her neck. Tiffany closed her eyes and anticipated it… In a blink, a sudden warm sensation just crept over all her body… It was… when Taeyeon smooth lips brushed her in such a gentle way… Tiffany kissed back… And they were drifted into undescribable silence for some moment, that only they two who could genuinely mean it…

“Tae…,” Tiffany piped up again after releasing herself from the kiss. “My father… entrusted this letter to you…,” she said while hauling up a note from her pocket.

“I always bring this thing with me… In hope… one day I’d see you again…”

“Entrust?” Taeyeon threw her a baffled look.

“My father… had passed away… two years ago…,” Tiffany said. Taeyeon eyes widened.

“He has gone?” she repeated in disbelief.

“That’s right,” suddenly a voice was heard from behind. Taeyeon had already recognized it. She tilted and saw the happy couple stood side by side, intertwined their fingers, while another Jessica’s hand held Kyu Hun.

“Tiffany… I’m… really sorry for your lost…,” Taeyeon said feebly. Tiffany flashed her smile.

“Gwaenchana… I have got over it, Taetae…,” she said and instinctively wrapped her arms around Taeyeon waist.

“It was about two months before we’re getting married,” Yuri added and grinned as she saw Taeyeon was in surprise to see them again.

“Yuri… Sica… You two… already got married?” Taeyeon asked.

“Couldn’t you can see this boy inherited my cold appearance?” Jessica grinned and carried Kyu Hun.

“Oh my gosh! I supposed to know it earlier!” Taeyeon giggled discovering her stupidity.

“He likes to call Tiffany “Omma”, and I think he’d like to call you so as well,” Yuri explained.

“Well, Tae, we’re really glad to see you here,” Jessica uttered. “But I think now you have to make some quality time with this one,” Jessica grinned while pointing out Tiffany with her eyes.

“Yeah, we’d leave you two for some moment.”

“Awh, what such a very understanding pals!” Taeyeon exclaimed.

“Of course,” Yuri whispered near her ears. “Just make a happy ending this time. Okay? We’re too tired to see you two run lotta tears… Really.”

“Don’t worry about that,” Taeyeon whispered back and winked.

“Fanny,” Taeyeon called out her again after Yulsic couple left. “What’s happened with your father?” she asked in concern.

“He experienced and and eventually heart attack took him away… But, no, not like you’re thinking about, Tae,” Tiffany briskly added.

“Initially he was indeed mad at me… He felt so humiliated but strangely he didn’t blame you at all…,” she trailed off, looked like cogitating the moment. “I thought… he felt sorry… And despite of everything he did, I felt so grateful… he realized his fault and remorse it…”

       “He… didn’t hate me?”

Tiffany shook firmly. “No, he didn’t.”

“How could you sure about it?”

“As I told you earlier… Before he gone, he entrusted this letter to me… He really hoped someday I’d have a chance to see you again…”

“Would you like to read it, Tae?” Tiffany asked sweetly and proffered a letter to her.

Slightly trembling, Taeyeon received it and unfolded the letter.

Taeyeon Ssi,

I wonder if you would forgive me after all those things I did to you, to your father, to your family.

I know I had done so many mistakes and I even didn’t dare to expect any forgiveness from you.

But now, as I could see the death is coming, I really want to make a chance to say some things to you.

Taeyeon Ssi, I had no idea how much you hate me for causing you many sorrow and troubles in your life. I also had realized that I hadn’t been a good father for my beloved daughter, Tiffany.

All the things happened between you two, I couldn’t put all the blame on her either on you.

When a daughter made a mistake, it’s undeniable the parents had responsibility behind it.

But, I didn’t want to drag it into this letter. I didn’t want to talk about it, as finally I could see,

Love will never fail.

What I see into my daughter eyes was love when it came to you.

I could say as well, you’re absolutely her happiness.

So, please, pretty please, don’t punish her because of me, Taeyeon Ssi.

Please don’t break her heart, don’t hurt her, and please… just love her with all your heart…

Because only by entrusting my daughter with the one she loved most and loved her most as well,

I think I could leave this world in peace.

If I have another chance to redeem my fault to you, Taeyeon Ssi, believe me, I’d do it for you.

From now on, to seal this letter, I’d like to say that… I’d be glad to give you my full blessing to you and my daughter…

I’m sure you two would be able to make a new chapter, make a new history, and live happily ever after until your hairs been grey and eventually only the death that can make you be apart.

My blessings is all yours,

Mr. Hwang

Taeyeon’s eyes were blurry as she finished read the letters… The unexpected letters… From the father who entrusted her daughter to her…

       “I think… I got your father wrong… He’s a great father, Tiffany…,” she said and stared her.

There was a short pause before finally Taeyeon summoned her courage to say the next remarks.

She held Tiffany’s hand gently and looked at her deeply.

“Tiffany Hwang… would you marry me?”

Tiffany couldn’t help but dropping tears…

“I’ve been waiting so long for today, Tae… I’ve been waiting so long for hearing those words from you…”

Taeyeon wiped her tears gently and smiled.

       “So… Your answer?”

       “Definitely yes, Taeyeon Kim…”

Taeyeon smiled complacently. She reached Tiffany into her embraced. She swung her around for a moment to celebrate their happiness.

And they tacitly knew and felt like seeing....

Mr. Kim and Mr. Hwang stared them happily… somewhere above… at the different world they had never known yet…

       And gave them their blessings…
