Nightmare

Drawing the Line

“N-Noona”

Hoseok took a step back, then another before grabbing on Soa’s whole arm and pushing her behind him so that she was shielded from the older girl’s view. Soa merely comprehended his actions as she stood there with her nose against his back, peeking over to the beautiful woman that oozed with charisma and success. Bundled up in a coat that screamed richness, she gulped and returned her gaze to her boyfriend’s jacket, eyes never looking away because of her being intimidated by the other woman.

How the did Hoseok know all those pretty women? And why the hell was he even dating Soa when he could definitely have better?

She never felt so crappy about herself until that particular moment.

“Hoseok, what the hell are you doing?” the woman asked him in an unusually husky and sultry tone, raising a brow at the boy. Soa almost jumped at her alto-like tone as it gave her goosebumps.

“U-Uh, I…Uhm” Hoseok- the bad and rough and more than a bit aggressive Hoseok- was reduced to a mere little schoolboy when her gaze flattened him down. Someone that could crush Hoseok within a heartbeat with their eyes only was someone that Soa had to respect, for the boy definitely did not have many people he respected as much. On the contrary, it was scary to see him so panicked about her presence and if she hadn’t been involved in tis mess as well she would’ve laughed and made fun of him till the rest of his days on earth.

Soa stopped pondering over thoughts when the mysterious woman settled her gaze upon her hidden form, and she gulped in slight fear.

No wonder the boy was practically trembling.

“Mom’s not going to be happy about this” She sighed while ruffling her perfectly groomed curls, “You know that”

Soa blinked, wait a minute, she thought crossly, Mom?

Wait a freaking minute, everything stopped turning inside her head.

“I don’t care” Hoseok huffed and pushed her behind him even more, a frown gracing his face “Mom can kick me out whenever she feels like it”

Does that mean…the pieces of puzzle fell into place and clicked in Soa’s mind, before a gasp was emitted from her lips. This must be Hoseok’s older sister, although she wasn’t even aware that the boy had siblings. Now that she looked with a closer look, the woman did have Hoseok’s eyes and his strong, proud nose that stood tall onto his face. Her eyebrows however contrary to her smaller brother had a strong and defining edge to it, unlike Hoseok’s soft baby eyebrows that could be ruffled by the wind. There definitely was a family resemblance, but a subtle one.

His sister sighed again in exasperation, and Soa swore she saw her rolling her eyes, “So, aren’t you going to present me?”

Hoseok, with some slight hesitation, wrapped an arm around Soa’s waist and brought her close to his chest still keeping a protective eye on her and her interaction with his sister. Cautiously, he motioned towards her form and said “This is Kang Soa, Soa this is my noona”

“Annyeonghaseyo, Jung Hyejin imnida” the said girl flashed a surprising smile that erased every negative vibe from her aura, and Soa was surprised at her teeth-rich mouth. Well, it runs in the family, Soa chuckled to herself.

When Hyejin extended her arm to hers, Soa was surprised to feel that her handshake was warm and firm, unlike her cold exterior that had shocked the girl at first glance. With that smile lighting up her features, Hoseok’s sister seemed much more approachable and friendly, and Soa was grateful for the effort she put into trying not to scare her off.

“I hope you’re taking good care of my Hobi. He’s such a brat after all, I don’t even know how you can manage with him” Hyejin sent her brother a small glare that he gladly returned.

He then took hold of his girlfriend’s arm and turned to meet his noona’s eyes “We’ll be going now, noona”

“Why don’t you bring her home, Hoseokie? Soa would love that, wouldn’t she?”

That phrase almost caused him to topple over in shock. With wide eyes, he regarded his sister with a flabbergasted look imprinted on his face. Was she stupid or just plain crazy? It was as clear as crystal water that their parents would never approve of Soa because they would find her a distraction for Hoseok’s studies, and they would probably hate her upon the first meeting and try to make her life hell at home. No, of all people he wanted to keep Soa away from, those were the first from his list, and no way was he going to bring her face-to-face into the dragon’s lair, someone would have to kill him for that to ever happen.

No” He flashed his sister a warning through his gaze, pleading her not to let a word about the particular girl pass through her lips.

And with that, he pulled Soa long behind him, his strides particular long and rapid compared to before. She stumbled behind him and tried to catch her footing twice while holding on to his arm for sanity’s sake. The amused and light-hearted Hoseok from earlier on had disappeared, only to be replaced by the cold and aggressive beast that didn’t seem to care one little speck about her wellbeing. It was so obvious how his whole demeanor changed with just one word, and the girl wondered if he was truly okay. Truth to be told, he never confessed his fears or problems to her and she knew that he thought it wasn’t her problem, and that telling her everything would just weaken his male pride, but that wasn’t it at all! Soa wanted, needed to hear him talk about his fears because then she could understand that he was human as well. The fact that he despised sharing his thoughts with her left her reeling with untrustworthiness.

“Hoseok’ she tried calling out in hopes that for once, just this once he would respond to her callings. But he didn’t, the boy kept walking as if air had just passed through his ears.

“Hoseok” With a tug onto his arm, he halted to a stop and the girl sighed while twisting his body around so that she faced him. His eyes were glued to the ground, like he feared of facing her brown orbs. Right now, he presented the picture of a small vulnerable boy that got lost on his way home, and the harshness on Soa’s tongue melted as she caught a glimpse of his face.

Hesitantly, she lifted her chin and squeezed his hand with her own “You can tell me”

Still, it felt like the boy had locked his lips and thrown away the key, for he only regarded her with an impassive look on his face, like he was trying to tie down every little emotion that he feared would seep past his eyes and he reflected through his irises. A sigh left Soa’s lips once more before she turned her head away and murmured something that reached his and his only ears.

“You don’t want me to meet your parents, right?”

Her voice was laced with so much emotion that it trembled, and for a second Hoseok wanted to scream at her for being so doubtful about her.

He bit his lip and replied a “No.” straight in her face. There were many things he wished to say to her, but how to say it was the question. He hated it when Soa doubted her own person and her abilities, it was a horrible trait that could lead her to disappointment and failure when she was everything but. He wished to let her know that dear place she held his heart, how she was the only one that could trigger so many emotions into it at once, but when it reached his voicebox, the words died over his lips and he only stood there with nothing to say, or many things to say but not knowing how to say them.

He was well-aware of the effect of his words on her, and felt more than saw the tears stinging at the back of her eyes. “I see” she answered in such a small voice, like a newborn bird about to fly and trembling on its feet.

“Soa” he caught her middle when she was about to turn and walk away, pulling her body to his and pressing his forehead against hers before she could think of running from him. Ravishing in her sweet-smelling and minty scent he wouldn’t forget for a lifetime, his hand reached up to curl a strand of hair away from her face as he spoke “Not because I don’t want you to’

Her eyes were down all this time, and he didn’t like that. One push of his fingers over her jaw caused her to flutter her irises to his, brown orbs glistening with fear of rejection “It’s my parents”

“Your parents?” she echoed.

He pecked her cheek chastely “I’ll explain later. Let’s go home”

-----------

“My parents aren’t the most understanding people” Hoseok murmured in her hair once they had entered her apartment and were now residing on Soa’s single bed squished together so that her head was resting on his chest, his arms wound around her waist and his chin fitting atop her head like a missing puzzle piece. His body emanated warmth and protection to hers, and when she sniffed his shirt every time was the same cycle of trying not to swoon at his lingering scent inside her nostrils. If Hoseok were the devil then she’d be long gone to Hell. Every small part of her body that made contact with his was ignited with electric tingles that danced up and down her spine, and it took all her willpower not to shrug inside his embrace because of the amount of chemistry she felt between them.

Cocking her head at him, not a word left her lips as she urged him to continue on.

“They don’t like it that I dance. They just want me to take on their company” the bitterness was obvious in his tone, and Soa couldn’t help but notice how his eyes were lingering with the pain from those particular individuals. It made sense right now as to why Hoseok seemed to be such a rebel. It wasn’t in his nature; he just wanted to prove a point to his parents and to make them realize just how much he wasn’t fit for that line of work. He was a dancer, a choreographer, an artist that had a free spirit and an even freer will. She couldn’t picture him enclosed through four walls working at a desk; it just didn’t suit him.

“And-“ he broke off, took a deep breath with his eyes closed while his lips trembled slightly “-I don’t want you to meet them because …I’m scared they might separate us”

His eyes widened suddenly when Soa’s arms squeezed his middle in comfort.

She was hugging him.

Him.

Wow.

Before he knew it though, it was already over and the girl retracted her grasp with her cheeks ablaze with a fire that spread rapidly over her face while she tried to find a perfect excuse for her actions, although he knew it had just been on the spur of the moment.

Eyes averted, tried to create a babble of words “I’m sorry I-“

Kissing her softly before she could finish her sentence, it dawned upon Soa that she had never really kissed him back. Hoseok initiated all and she never responded to them partly because she was at lost with what to do. Although the boy was fine with that and had comforted her many times that her lack of experience was cute, she felt like a stupid rabbit in a trap every time they did.

Before she knew it, she kissed him back at the slightest; hesitantly, lips trembling with slight fear and inexperience.

But once she did, his breath halted and he stilled, body tense with shaken up desire.

Man, her lips dripped with sensual temptation. It screamed of purity and gentleness and drove him crazy. He was on the border of his sanity, and retreated before he could lose it. This was Soa, and he wanted to take all his sweet time with her, not pressuring her into anything. He wanted their love to be as pure as the fallen snow in December because it reflected her and that was what she deserved.

Soa’s eyelids fluttered open when he backed away and bowed her head in shame thinking that he didn’t like her kiss “I-I’m sorry I don’t know-“

He kissed her again shortly but with harshness, shutting her words up before he replied with a stern gaze “Stop saying sorry”

Sighing, the girl only burrowed her face deeper into his shirt and closed her eyes. Hoseok started playing with a strand of her hair absentmindedly as a photo on her nightstand caught his eye. More than a little intrigued, the boy furrowed his brows as he tried to make out the details.

“Who’s she?” he asked abruptly. “On the photo?”

Her voice was barely a whisper “my younger sister”

“Ah” her personal file records flashed before his eyes upon the recall of this memory. He said no more however when he caught sight of her orbs darkening. She may not want to talk about it, he reasoned with himself before ghosting his lips upon her forehead.

“Sleep now.”

It was past 3 a.m and Hoseok had given up on the thought of going home when Soa’s body restrained him from doing so – the girl’s legs were clamped around his waist and her face was lodged in the depths of his neck- when Hoseok heard her whimpering softly in her sleep.

Still a bit drowsy for having been woken up by the sound, the boy frowned in darkness before he realized that it was actually coming from the girl cradled in his arms. Looking down at the latter, his frown deepened even more when he glimpsed the crystal reflection of tears at the border of her eyes, threatening to cascade down her cheeks while never-ending sobs and begged whispers were thawing their way out of , pain laced through her tone.

“No. Please… Stop…stop it!” the boy jumped when she screamed out loud. What the heck was happening? Was she having a nightmare? That could be the reason for her tears for the boy knew that Soa wasn’t someone to cry for anything and everything.

Tentatively with one arm still supporting her body against his, his other hand reached out to clasp her shoulder, and he shook her softly. “Yah Soa”

“I’m not like her!” She shouted loudly, making the boy wince at the loud and shrilly tone before her eyes sprung open in shock. Her chest rose with panic and she looked around, disoriented when her gaze came to a stop upon Hoseok’s form.

He tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, “It’s okay. It’s just a nightmare” and rubbed her arm softly while cradling her against his chest.

Her forehead was sticky with sweat, her eyes looking from right to left to every direction, and her lips opening and closing as she tried to breath in deeply and calm herself down. Hoseok had never seen her in this state, wondered if it was a recollection of her past that had caused her to have such a dream. Was she having this every night? He thought to himself as worry and concern bubbled up from the pits of his stomach. He knew that the girl would deny it if he even asked though, just because of her stupid damn pride and her ego. Not that he could complain because he was sure he was just the same.

He made a mental note to remind her in the morning. He was going to get down to the nature of her tormenting, he promised himself that.

He didn’t want her to hurt anymore.

-----------

Namjoon never looked for trouble.

But trouble always found him.

It was ironical, how someone like him with the name of “Rap Monster” was just a simple pacifist that hated war and fights and all the aspects that trailed after it, not forget the consequences that would follow. He was someone simple and loved living life without having to think twice about his decisions, only because he just couldn’t be bothered anymore. Truth to be told, he had spent his entire life living with the constant fear that something bad might happen to him, and his intuition never failed him. It would either result in breaking a chair or two, or marking a hole in the blackboard. It had even come to a point where things he broke every day just became normal to him, something that must happen for him to complete his day. It was weird but on the other hand, what was normal anyway?

However, for once in his life, when he caught sight of Hani’s form entering a café in the neighborhood whereby he lived, he couldn’t help himself. He had to find out what was going on with that girl, because something was definitely fishy, and that meant trouble.

So for once, he took his courage with two hands and went to look for what he shouldn’t have meddled with in the first place.

His gaze followed the girl as she ordered a drink before sitting herself down in the far corner of the café, her gaze never straying away from her cup of steaming hot liquid. Swiftly, he made his way over to her in two strides and made his presence known by slightly scraping the chair just in front of her.

Hani looked up at him, recognition dawning through her eyes when she saw whom it was.

“Lee Hani” he drawled her name with his husky accent while gesturing towards the chair “Can I join you?”

With a hesitant nod, he proceeded to slide down opposite her and placed his elbows upon the hard surface of the table, his gaze glued upon her form that had took a sudden interest in her drink.

“I want to ask you something” His voice was cold, hard.

The girl looked up and blinked innocently “What?”

“Why’d you do it?” he watched her face for any sign of emotion, but stayed impassive like a mask had been folded over her features. Either she was a very good actress or she didn’t have any clue about what he was talking about. Namjoon didn’t think it was the latter however, because she was well aware of Soa and Hoseok’s relationship even before they made it official.

A blind individual could’ve figured it out, and Hani wasn’t dumb, no matter how much you looked at it.

“Do what?”

I’m not falling for your game; he thought to himself as he replied impassively “Stop playing around. You think I’m stupid?”

Hani blinked some more and that aggravated him, “I don’t know what you’re talking about”

“I hope that you know what you’re doing”

“Namjoon-ssi really, I don’t know what you’re talking about”

He let out a snort “You’re really something, aren’t you Lee Hani?”
