Jung Hoseok

Drawing the Line

Soa slapped him.

The sound of her palm hitting him square in the face whipped J-Hope’s head to the side, still in shock from what had actually happened. His mind didn’t register anything that happened until Taehyung grabbed his left shoulder, pulling him out of his momentary trance.

“Yah Hobi hyung, you okay?” Taehyung’s eyes flashed with annoyance when he turned to Soa, who was busy seething from having been practically violated in public. “What’s your problem!?”

The latter’s deep voice sent chills of fear down Soa’s spine, and her resolution to keep a low profile practically jumped out of the window the moment she felt a hand at her skirt, lifting it up to show the world what exactly was underneath. Her cheeks were burning with a fiery blush, and yet her gaze was hard and unmoving, her hands clenched into fists.

“What’s my problem?” She repeated with venom laced in her words “Excuse you, what’s his problem?”

“He didn’t do anything to you” Taehyung frowned with a scowl forming onto his face.

“Of course he didn’t. Because lifting up a girl’s skirt is something you do everyday, don’t you?” Her nails dug into the skin of her palm as a soft redness appeared from her closed crescents. Se hadn’t felt this helpless since school started; she had never felt this kind of exposure before. Sure, when she had had to adapt herself to her new life, she had been like a monkey on a dance floor, but right when her life had took a turn for the better and she had finally stabilized herself with the area, something had to come up to make her life hell and cause a ruckus. It was amazing how shameless those boys actually were.

Right now, she yearned to hide her face, to hide herself forever. Lifting her skirt was a disrespectful gesture, one that would leave her scarred for quite a bit of time.

YAH!” Hoseok finally found his voice while his anger slowly seeped through his veins at her action. How dare she hit him when he didn’t even do anything wrong?! He wasn’t one to get into useless fights about whatsoever, but this was different. She was accusing him when clearly he hadn’t even touched her to begin with! A small glare was sent to the responsible that slowly took a step back, then another and another as J-Hope angrily turned to the stranger and grabbed a hold of her arm to point at the culprit.

“How DARE YOU lay your filthy hands on me when he’s the one at fault!?” He didn’t hesitate to shove her. Girl or not, she had gone over her boundaries and he wasn’t one to let someone who crossed the line to get away with it that easily.

“You’ll pay for this, ” and with that last shove at the last word, he watched her fall to the ground and barely missing the steps that would’ve caused her to tumble down the staircase. His anger was so deep and in vent that he couldn’t care less about her safety. She deserved every bad thing that happened to her, and the concern he had held for her just a few seconds ago was washed away by the fury that slowly embedded his bones and took over his whole body. That girl was about to live the hell of a rollercoaster, and he would be the one controlling every single string.

Walking away, he was quite satisfied of himself when a string of words left the girl’s mouth in silent fury. Something like “ing bastard thinks he’s all that” which caused him to turn around and glare at her.

But the girl, instead of shutting up when she had to, looked into his eyes with a scowl of her own imprinted on her face, saying it again with vigor “ing bastard thinking he’s all that”

Bwoh?” Hoseok’s voice was practically muffled from his inner devil trying to resist himself from launching his fist at her and ing putting her into place. But fortunately just in time, Taehyung’s hand came to a rest onto his shoulder, pulling him back and murmuring something like “it’s not worth it hyung”

To the girl, the younger boy scoffed “You’re pathetic, you know that?”

And with that, they were gone. Thank god for his younger friend, or Hoseok didn’t know if he would’ve been able to keep a grip onto his sanity.

Soa watched them go with a mixture of emotions playing across her face. Was she angry? Of course she was, the guy had the nerve to disrespect a girl in public. He definitely wasn’t a gentleman and was just too impulsive for his own good. She sill wasn’t over the fact that he pushed her. Pushed her, yes. In front of everyone like she had just been a piece of trash. Maybe in his eyes, she was. But she was something to her, she meant something to herself, and the fact that he had humiliated her ego in front of everybody caused her to shudder in embarrassment. Although he was partly right, because maybe it really hadn’t been him that had lifted her skirt up like a red flag. But she didn’t regret it when her palm had struck his face, because she believed that he and his -like attitude needed some spanking and a wake up call.

She didn’t regret it one bit.

Not wanting to attract any more attention than she already had, Soa proceeded to gather herself and walk away from the crime scene with a hand clutching onto her skirt for fear of the same thing happening again. She wanted to cry, the tears threatening to fall when she shook her head and told herself that it wasn’t worth it and that she would be even more vulnerable than anything.

Don’t cry Soa, it’s all right. Everything’s all right, you’re strong right? She chanted inside her head again and again barely holding herself together. Yes, she would be all right. Everything would be fine. No one was staring at her, no one was making comments. She just had to ignore her classmates who did, with their pointed fingers and ugly giggles that caused goose bumps to rise upon her arms. Not liking the sudden interest that had rose among the students around her – apparently they were supposed there was even a girl named “Kang Soa’ in their class- the girl turned away to watch the falling leaves of the trees in the courtyard, wishing that she was someplace else other than this sudden hellhole.

“Soa-ssi” she jumped when someone called out her name, and for a brief moment thought that she or he might have been mistaken her for someone else. But when footsteps reached her desk, Soa gulped and looked up to find one of her classmates with a slight smile present on her face. It was obvious how the girl was nervous around her, since she probably never uttered a single word to her before apart from the occasional ‘hello’ in the corridors or during lunch when they passed by each other, but that was about it. Soa was certain that the girl was only interested in knowing the gossips that have erupted amongst the students the second she got up from the floor earlier that day.

“Y-yes?” Soa answered unsurely.

“I heard abut the incident earlier. Are you okay?”

Was it concern that Soa heard through her tone? Or was she just dreaming? Nah the girl probably was only doing it for the good deed and to get some kind of information about the incident because Soa was sure that the moment she opened to speak about how much of a bastard that strange boy was, the latter would go and twit with her friends, casting her horrified looks as they did so. Instead of replying her, Soa just sent her a wanly smile along with a nod, turning away to face the window once more to show that the case was closed and she wasn’t about to speak about it ever again. The classmate’s sigh was loud enough for Soa to pick up, and behind her back she heard something like “She’s not even making an effort” and “I even tried being friendly but she’s just weird”.

Maybe there had been some good intentions along the line, maybe the girl was actually concerned though it puzzled Soa why it should bother her that much since they weren’t even friends. But better be safe than sorry, they said.

Maybe Soa should’ve said sorry.

Because technically it wasn’t even Hoseok’s fault, and there she went and slapped him where a boy’s pride was at the highest. She was sure that it had probably bruised most of his male ego more than it did actually hurt, and the girl felt guilty for having done that to him.

However, when she tried looking for him he was nowhere to be found, and thus gave up and went home, thinking that he would’ve already forgotten it tomorrow. She had heard from the rumours though about their group.

The Bangtan Boys, and him going by the name of J-Hope when in fact he was called Jung Hoseok.

Soa had taken Hoseok’s threat lightly, brushing off his attempt to scare her off and even having the gut to forget about his words that had slipped out of his mouth the day before. But when she caught sight of the said boy leaning against her locker the next day, the memories of yesterday replayed themselves behind her eyelids, and with a gulp she was about to turn away and make a run for it when the boy called out her name.

“Kang Soa” she swore even without looking that he had a smirk playing over his lips. The girl looked down at her feet and suddenly gained a huge interest in the hole in her right shoe, analyzing it with the finest detail just to avoid his stare.

He advanced towards her, loving the sudden power he dominated over her small frame. In the morning light cast over the school corridors, she didn’t look all that threatening and bold. On the contrary, she looked like a small kid in a young adult’s world. His anger from yesterday burst through his veins once again as he recalled the blow to his cheek that he hadn’t deserved in the least. It still throbbed from her slap and the skin was sensitive to the touch, but he wasn’t about to let her know that because J-Hope wouldn’t be called J-Hope if he did.

He stopped just a few steps before her, his eyes hardening slightly when she didn’t glance up at him even though he knew that she knew that he was right in front of her, fully aware of the situation and yet still trying to ignore him royally.

“Yah, Kang Soa. Look at me when I’m talking to you” he snapped, about to grasp her chin himself and lit it up for good measure when she did so herself. Surprisingly, her eyes were as hard as steel.

“I’m sorry” she said bluntly. J-Hope was taken aback by her sharpness, and even though her lips were saying it, her eyes were definitely not apologizing.

That pissed him off all the more.

He roughly grabbed onto her shirt, practically lifting her off the floor “Who the do you think you are?”

He wasn’t shouting, and yet his deep tenor resounded through her body, scaring her to death about what might follow after that. Would he bang her against the wall like in the movies?

“I’m..” she faltered slightly “I said I’m sorry”

This time, when Hoseok glared at her he was surprised to find a soft glow of guilt swimming in her brown orbs. It was almost enough to make him forget exactly what he had been doing here in the first place. Almost.

“Just because you said sorry doesn’t mean that I accept your apology” with that, he took a hold of her bag and threw it to the floor, not wincing the slightest when the contents burst out and her books scattered over the cold tiles. Hoseok watched in satisfaction when he released his hold on her, watched her helplessness as she bent over to pick up her things one by one. He didn’t feel the least bit guilty when he pushed her over so that she fell onto the floor looking like a pitiful mess. A smirk was the only thing he let past his lips when he swiveled around and walked away from the ruckus.

Soa curled her hands into fists and bit so hard on her lip that she tasted the metallic copper of blood in . She wasn’t about to cry in public, not when they had all already witnessed so much weakness from her part. She was doomed forever, because now they knew that she wasn’t as invisible, wasn’t as stone cold or wasn’t as strong as they thought she was. And if Hoseok really adhered by his promise to make her life hell, well she was in it for a rollercoaster ride and would have to stick with this terrible fate until she graduated, because there was no way her parents would let her transfer schools once again.

“You’ll pay for this, ” and with that last shove at the last word, he watched her fall to the ground and barely missing the steps that would’ve caused her to tumble down the staircase.

Soa bit her lip once again at the thought, cursing when she tasted once again blood on her lips. She was in for it now, there was no backing out of this.
