Feast
The Golden QuillSoo-hyuk could hear the sound of conversation as he walked down the stairs from the third floor of the Jung Compound. When he entered the dining area the others were already eating. There was a feast on offer, chicken, lamb, fish and all sorts of sides and salads. Gaelin was missing out on a feast but she was too tired. After today, Soo-Hyuk couldn’t blame her. His wife was not eating; she was weak and still going through so much more than them. It was unfair. It was wrong and he didn’t care what he had to do to make it right.
“Is Gaelin okay?” Yoongi asked as Soo-hyuk sat beside him, “Is she not joining us for dinner?”
“No. She is too tired to eat.” Soo-hyuk stared at all the food and suddenly didn’t feel like eating.
“I don’t think she should be sleeping,” Yoongi began but then he stopped when he saw the strain on his friend’s face. Something wasn’t right and it was going to get worse. He took a sip of his wine and filled his glass again.
“She is fine.” Soo-hyuk had a delayed response. His hands were clenched and his jaw was tight. He was finding it hard to relax. Being next to Woo Minjae was sending his nerves into overdrive. He wanted to lash out, to hurt the other man.
Hoseok watched his friend but pretended that nothing was wrong and reached for more chicken. “I wish she would at least eat properly.” He commented. “She is eating for two now.”
“Maybe she would do that if she weren’t being attacked.” Soo-hyuk snapped and then stopped abruptly. “I am sorry…I didn’t mean to say that.”
Yoongi placed his knife and fork down, “What did you mean by that?”
“Nothing…” Soo-hyuk said and reached for some water.
Hoseok grabbed the water jug away and searched his friend’s face, “Something happened today. I knew it. That was why Gaelin was late.”
Soo-hyuk nodded and looked at Woo Minjae, the other man avoided his eyes, “Gaelin was attacked in the woods.” Soo-hyuk revealed and heard Yoongi in his breath.
“What do you mean she was attacked? By an animal?” Hoseok’s hands clutched the utensils so tight that his knuckles were white. Soo-hyuk knew it was wrong to draw his friends into this, he knew what type of reaction it would cause, but he didn’t care. This was Gaelin and he would do whatever it took to make sure his family was safe. He hated Minjae even more now. He didn’t think it was possible to hate someone so much. “Lee Soo-hyuk what do you mean?” Hoseok repeated slowly.
“It’s what I said. Gaelin was attacked in the woods today. Two men tried to abduct her. They revealed that they were hired to not to harm her but to take her away.”
Yoongi pushed his plate away in disgust, he had lost his appetite. “You’ve got to be kidding me. Who the hell would…” he trailed off as he looked at Woo Minjae, “You bastard.” He whispered. “How could you do that?”
“Bwo?” Minjae shook his head, “Why are you looking at me?”
“Who else?” Yoongi had paled, “How could you do it? She is pregnant, married to someone else. How could you put her in danger like that? What is wrong with you?” Minjae blushed under the moral degradation that Yoongi sent his way, “I am really disappointed in you.”
Hoseok dropped his knife so that it clattered painfully onto his plate and fell to the floor. There was no Butler or House Master to pick it up this time. Slowly he rose from his chair, “Tell me it’s not true.”
“I…” Minjae looked around the table and then at Soo-hyuk, “You wanted this right? You wanted to point the finger at me.”
“Then tell me it wasn’t you.” Hoseok banged his fist on the table.
“It wasn’t me!” Minjae said.
“Yah!” Hoseok pushed his chair away and grabbed Minjae by his shirt, “Are you going to lie to me right now? I will kill you out here in these mountains and tell everyone you drowned in the ocean and they will back me up.”
Minjae looked at Yoongi for help but Yoongi just stared, a blank expression on his face. This time, he was not going to do anything to hold Hoseok back.
“You wouldn’t do that…” Minjae whispered.
“Wouldn’t I?’ Hoseok laughed bitterly, “everyone already thinks I am a murderer. You have taken so much from me hyung. You are so selfish. Always thinking of what you want and need. Never thinking of others. What was so wrong about
