You glanced at the clock on the corner of your desktop and raised an eyebrow. It was eleven, and your boyfriend had promised to come knocking on your door at half past ten. You messaged him on Facebook but saw that he has been inactive for twelve hours. This was quite remarkable. He basically went to sleep and never went back on.

            A niggling suspicion urged you to get up from your seat and you grabbed your ID before walking up the flight of stairs to the next floor. The two of you had gotten rooms on top of each other and you were grateful as you pounded on his door.

            “Jongup! Jongup! Open up!”

            You continued to knock vigorously on the door. You heard footsteps and stepped back only to see Sungjae’s face.

            “Hey,” he greeted you. “Jongup’s still sleeping,” his roommate said with a laugh.

            You rolled your eyes. “Of course. I’m sure his alarm rang?”

            Sungjae was now back on his bed and lounging in front of his laptop. “Each time, he shuts it with a groan. I told him you were waiting but he just mumbled something before disappearing under the covers again.”

            “You don’t mind human torture in the room, right?”

            All three of you were good friends so it was with a wicked grin that Sungjae nodded. “Hey, teach your man a lesson.”       

            With a determined look, you walked up to the bed and could hear Jongup’s faint snoring. You rolled your sleeves up to your elbows and yanked his covers down. His arms fell with them, as he desperately tried to hold on. “No,” he mumbled.

            “Moon Jongup!” At the sound of your voice, his eyes flew open and you saw the sinking dread slowly overcome him. He tried to pass it off with one of his adorable smiles, though.

            “Oh hey, good morning.”

            “Good morning? Let’s try good afternoon. It’s nearly there.”

            He shyly covered his bare arms. “It’s kinda cold.” Jongup was still trying to worm his way out by being cute.

            “We were supposed to meet an hour ago. But not only are you still lazing about, you don’t seem to remember.”

            His face fell. “Wait, that was today?” When you nodded, he smacked himself on the head. “Ugh, I’m sorry. I forgot. Let me get up and get dressed. I’m sorry, sorry.” Now, he really was being a contrite puppy.

            You stared at him as he slid past you, off the bed and started to search for his toothbrush. He ran a hand haphazardly through his hair, trying to comb through the cowlicks and your heart softened. Yes, he was a bit irresponsible, and yes, he was a lazy bum when it comes to his bed. But he was still as sincere as anything.

            Sungjae laughed when Jongup stepped out and asked you, “So what exactly was he late to?”

            “We were supposed to spend the whole day studying for finals together and now we’re cut short by a couple of hours.”

            He was silent for a while. “Studying? You’re mad because he’s late to a study session?”

            “Well, it’s mainly because I had breakfast planned and now it’s gotten cold.”

            Jongup’s roommate arched an eyebrow. “Somehow I doubt you’re going to get much studying done.” He smirked and lifted his brows in a suggestive manner. “Make sure to return Uppie not too late after midnight,” he cackled as Jongup walked in to a very confusing scene. Why was his girlfriend lounging forward to strangle his roommate?
