Youngjae 93

B.A.P. Oneshots III

“You’re joking, right?” Youngjae smiled at the producer kindly and laughed off what he just heard. “I’ll focus on filming the music video, I promise. No more fooling around.” He turned around to continue his individual shoot but saw that all the cameras were put away. “Where did everyone go? We’re not done!”

“Youngjae, you need to go to the meet up. We’ll film your parts tomorrow.”

“Wait, but that was just a joke to get me to stop wasting time, right? I’m not really going on We Got Married.

His stylist was serious when she nodded. “Yes you are.”

            “But why me?”

“Because the girl especially chose you. Now get to it. Don’t keep her waiting.”

Hearing this made Youngjae excited. He jumped up and down and clapped his hands. “No way! Who is she? Is she a pretty actress? An idol? Are you sure she asked for me?”

Their manager rolled his eyes affectionately and patted Youngjae’s arm. “Alright, let’s get you ready to be a husband-to-be.”

On the car ride, he scrolled through pictures of celebrities in his year and wondered who it could possibly be. He was considered young, so he was sure she was either a noona or someone in the same year. Could it be Suzy? His heart raced for a moment before he dismissed the thought. Krystal? Or, maybe he got lucky and landed an actress. He wrote up pros and cons of his top two choices and giggled to himself. We Got Married, who would have thought?
When they arrived at the venue, he walked out and smoothed his hair. He wanted to have a good impression for his wife. As he entered, however, he was stopped by a security guard. “Sir, I’m afraid you need to present identification.”

“Uh,” he looked around and saw his manager walk up to him before pinning a name tag to his chest.

            “There you go.”

The security guard bowed slightly. “You may enter.”

When he proceeded, another man in a mask came up to him. “You have to go past a couple of missions before you meet your wife. Please put on this cape and proceed.”

Youngjae slid on the cloak and wondered why it had to be so difficult. He walked a few steps and read the mission card. First, he had to make it across the lobby, holding onto a bouquet of flowers and avoid the lasers. But there were no lasers.

Utterly confused, he took a step forward. Immediately beams of light webbed the room and he saw that his stepping onto the floor had triggered the lasers. He grabbed the flowers from the table and precariously made his way through the lasers. The cloak made the task ten times more difficult and he muttered profanities to himself. Who in the world was this?

His foot nearly slipped as he had done a particularly difficult twirl, trying to go under and above at the same time as keeping his cape from touching the beams of light. Breathing harshly, he began to make his way through the final few laps.

Once Youngjae was safely on the other side, another card was waiting for him and he picked it up. He had to go through a haunted maze and find the present for her in the middle. He squared his shoulders and used the cape as a means of protection and the bouquet as a weapon.

The maze was dark and eerie and he walked rapidly before letting out a giant scream. A hunk of the maze had fallen off to reveal a decapitated body. Youngjae breathed deeply and saw a one shining on him. Confused as to what that meant, he continued on.

He turned the corner and reached a dead end and had to go back to the fork he had just passed. When he started on the next path, someone came out from their crouch. He laughed a little. He’s seen the fake ghosts on variety shows before. He bowed and quickly hurried.

When he reached what appeared to be the ending, he hurried and then saw something fly at him. Youngjae let out a scream out of shock and saw the number two shine on him. Now he understood, they were counting how many times he was scared. Determined not to make the number higher than he had to, he bit down on his lip and hurried in.

There was someone sitting on a seat. “Sit here and receive your punishment before you are allowed to go forth.”

He tentatively sat down and was immediately bound to the chair. There was a squeezing feeling in his legs and he saw that they were being pulled away from him. They had purposely not gagged him to see if he would scream. He didn’t.

After what seemed like forever, they finally released him. “You may take the present and continue.”

Youngjae shook out his limbs. Whoever it was better be worth it. As he took the heavy box, he saw that he had another mission card. “Congratulations. You have reached your final mission. Please hold your belongings and get past this obstacle course.”

The entire floor was covered with acupuncture mats and bars to jump over. How could he do it, holding this heavy box? He took a deep breath and stepped on, only to hop off again in absolute pain.

“Calm down. A pretty bride is waiting for you. Just it up.” He told himself. He hoisted the box and struggled to put his shoes on top. Then stepping gingerly on his toes, he made his way. There were difficulties when he had to jump over the bars and he mumbled angry curses under his breath.

He tripped, fell, and had to painfully get back up. When he finally slid down the final slide, his face was red and he stood up, trying to get himself presentable before continuing on.

His heart rose in his throat as he approached the figure sitting in the chair. He approached and she turned around. Youngjae dropped everything he was holding and screamed. Daehyun was wearing a veil and smiling at him.

“Hi Youngjae!” he said in a squeaky voice. Daehyun was slowly approaching him and he backed away, and kept walking, walking until finally Youngjae sat up with a jolt.

He stared wildly about him and saw that he was safely in his bed. He shuddered and closed his eyes, waiting for his heartbeat to slow. As he finally slid back down under his blankets, Youngjae made it a point to never mention it to Daehyun. If the other boy knew he was dreaming about him, Youngjae would never live it down. And it was with a shudder that Youngjae dared fall back asleep, this time dreaming happily about the true girl of his dreams.
