Against ItJungKook heard the stuttering from the engine, whispering a low oh, , really? as he began to pull away from the highway onto the side lane. His car began to slow down and the stuttering became more constant and terrifying. "Oh my god, please. No, no, no... No!" JungKook whined as the car pulled to stop. Thankfully, in the grass next to the highway, not on it.
"Well, isn't that just perfect?" he muttered, looking out the window to the pouring rain and horrid darkness. He pulled out his phone to check the time, growling when he remembered it was dead.
JungKook got out of the car and checked the engine, coughing when he opened the hood and found smoke. "God ing damn it! Are you ing kidding me?" JungKook cursed, slamming the hood shut and yelping at the pain he received as he smashed his fingers under it.
Knowing of nothing else to do, he kicked the tire and stuck out his thumb to oncoming cars as if there would be a taxi driver coming for him. He wrapped his other arm around his body to keep himself warm. JungKook didn't even want a ride; he just needed to call someone. A car whizzed past him, which he flipped off as it left and went back to his thumb facing the other cars.
It took him an hour to finally get someone to stop for him. His eyes lit up when the driver got out of the car, giving a confused look at the strange, soaked-to-the-bone boy. "Thank you! Thank you so much!" JungKook said, giving a small but thankful bow to the man.
The man gave an even more confused look and shook his head, saying something completely foreign to JungKook. Oh my god. He's speaking Japanese. You've got to be kidding me... he thought.
"Okay, umm... Hand phone? Hand phone?" JungKook asked in Korean, making the small sign of a cell phone with his pinky and index finger and putting it next to his ear. The man looked incredibly confused until JungKook rolled his eyes because goddamn it, he was cold and wet and wanted to go back home to his friends and girlfriend. "Ugh, why did I not learn Japanese..." he muttered to himself.
"Keitai?" the man asked. JungKook knew little to no Japanese, but he knew (embarrassingly) how to say hello on a phone. JungKook looked back to the man and did perhaps the stupidest thing ever. He pretended to tap numbers on his imaginary phone with little beeps as extra sounds.
"Moshi moshi?" he said, wanting to strangle the person whoever made that stupid saying.
Either way, the man understood and nodded, taking out his phone and giving it to the boy. "Arigato! Arigato!" he thanked the man swiftly before tapping in Seohyun's phone number, which reasonably hurt because of his purple fingers holding the phone.
"Hello?" she asked. JungKook sighed in relief.
"Oh my god, Seohyun. I can't tell you how much I miss you right now. It's me, JungKook," JungKook told her, running his fingers through his wet hair as a nervous habit. He didn't even notice he was speaking in his Satoori accent until he listened to his own words.
"JungKook! I've been trying to call you so many times for the past few hours! Why didn't you pick up?! Did you turn off your goddamned phone, you babo?!" There was the worried, scared side of Seohyun that he always received.
"I'm so sorry, Joo-hyun-ah. My phone died a long time ago, and my car broke down on the highway a few hours ago. I'm cold and dripping wet, too. It's ing raining over here and thank god you taught me what little Japanese I know because this guy that pulled over for me does not know Korean," JungKook explained shakily, chuckling dryly to make himself feel better.
"Aww, JungKook... I'll come get you. You must be freezing. I was so scared," Seohyun cooed.
"I know you're scared. I'm scared too, and I'm so sorry, and I didn't mean for this to happen, and..." JungKook choked up. He cursed himself for not keeping it together for his own terrified girlfriend that was scared to death of losing him right now.
"Shhh. You're okay. I'll come and get you, so don't stress about it, okay? Where are you and what's the closest thing you're near?" Seohyun asked. JungKook willed himself to stay together as he said the highway name and told her about the exit sign he was just about twenty meters away from. "Okay, don't worry about it. I'm coming."
"Thank you, Seohyun," he said.
"Get in your car and turn on the blinkers. Please stay warm, JungKook. Bye, I love you," she told him.
"Okay, I will. Bye, I love you, too," he ended the call with a sniffle, handing the phone back to the man and plastering a smile on his face for him. "Arigato," he thanked the man once again. He didn't notice the younger girl standing behind his leg, staring at him, until now. He smiled and waved to her. "Konichihwa."
"Hello," she replied, speaking in Korean. Why could she not have been here before?
"Hello. You might want to get back in the car before you freeze out here, okay sweetie?" JungKook said sweetly.
"Okay," she replied simply, pulling on her father's pant leg to tell him to get back in the car. He said something to the girl before she looked back at JungKook. "Do you need a towel?"
JungKook shook his head and smiled. "No, no. Please. I'm okay. I'm waiting until my gi- sister gets here. I don't need a towel," he kindly denied. He waited until the family had driven away before getting back in the car. The air was cold and uninviting, but hey, it was dry. He did as Seohyun had told him and the blinkers, locking the doors for extra protection.
It took about 45 minutes until Seohyun honked at him and got out of her car to talk to JungKook. She quickly tapped on the window, smiling when she had his attention. He opened the door and got out to look at her. "So, how have you been?" she asked casually with a bright smile.
"I've been better," JungKook chuckled, wiping away the stale tears in his eyes and sniffling. He couldn't even believe that he had cried. It seemed so dumb and useless, and it especially didn't help when he was panicking.
"No, duh. Are you okay? Do you want anything?" she asked worriedly.
"No, I'm just... I'm cold and tired and really wet," he responded, smiling softly.
"I can tell. Oh my god, what happened to your hand?" Seohyun asked. JungKo
