Eavesdropping and Break-ups
Against ItSeohyun walked easily down to the head master's office, but she couldn't help but listen to the uneven steps behind her. It was as if the boy behind her was starting and stopping, like he was hesitant to even follow her in the first place but he couldn't find the right time to leave.
Unfortunately for him, he remained that way until the two were at the door of the office. "," JungKook said under his breath. Seohyun rolled her eyes and opened the door.
The head master raised her head and smiled at them. "Oh, hello. I presume you have finished the cafeteria?" she asked. Seohyun nodded proudly while JungKook stood behind her uneasily. He hadn't really helped Seohyun and if she wanted to, the could tattle on him for it.
"Seohyun, you have a very clean record. You will have no further punishment," she stated. "As for you, JungKook..."
", here it comes..." JungKook muttered into a sigh.
"Jeon JungKook, I'm actually quite impressed. I expected you to not show up, knowing your record. Seohyun, you may leave now. I'd like to speak with JungKook privately," the head master said. Seohyun nodded and left the room, leaving poor JungKook in there by himself.
But something pulled her back, so she stayed and listened in to the conversation. This was a very un-Seohyun-like thing to do and it bothered her a little, but it had been much too long since she'd eavesdropped. Their conversation was slightly muffled through the wooden door, but it was easy enough to make out the words.
"JungKook. You and I both know that you are in here more often than you should be," the head master stated, cutting through the thick silence. It took a minute for JungKook to respond.
"Yes, ma'am," he said.
"Mr. Jeon, I'm sure you can be a good student. You are a good student, but it bothers me that you always get into trouble. Doesn't it bother you?" she continued, pausing for him to talk. Pfft. Good student my foot, Seohyun thought.
"Yes, ma'am," he repeated sadly.
"I really like you, JungKook. Even though at times it may seem like I don't, I actually do. And it would hurt me to send you back home," she said, almost like a threat.
"I... Yes, ma'am," he stopped himself.
"What were you going to say? I know you weren't just going to say 'yes, ma'am' again. Please say what you wish," she coaxed him.
"I would rather stay here," JungKook replied in a small, shaking voice. Seohyun was shocked. How could this guy suddenly be so shy? JungKook was the annoyingly bold in her mind, so it never occurred to her that he could ever be quiet and have an unstable voice.
"I know you would. That's why I'm giving you one last chance. If you can go, let's say three months, without any trouble, you can stay here and continue with your scholarship. However, if you can't, I will take full authority and send you home," the head master ended. Seohyun found herself feeling slightly bad for JungKook but also surprised that someone like him could have a scholarship.
"Yes, ma'am," he said one last time before Seohyun heard footsteps toward the door.
