Chapter 27 : Twenty-Seven.

"Friends for years now. I think I should know." Sehun said as he kept a straight face on driving.

Han Jin Sae.
You sat on the bed as you were wondering what was going on. What were you feeling? That was another question that popped into your mind. You furrowed your eyebrows when there was an incoming phonecall. You already ate the medicine placed for you on the side of your table before you reached for your phone. Your eyes widened when it was a call from your aunt back in the province.

"J-Jin Sae." your aunt croaked out and you gulped. "W-What's wrong?" you managed to ask even though the pain in your throat was killing you. "I..I..I need you back here now." she was talking in a panic tone and you didn't like it one bit. "What's wrong?" you raised your voice this time but she couldn't say anything else. "Please come back to the province now! You need to come back here now!" she raised her voice and you hissed. You knew she wouldn't call you back here unless it was something important. "I-I'll be right there." you replied quickly before hanging up. You decided not to tell your father about this as you know he will flip if he knows you're going back to the province especially when you told him it was a group trip to Japan but you couldn't go.

There was a knock on the door and you got up hastily as you tried to shout that you'll get the door but you couldn't shout. "Screw it." you grunted as you managed to stand up and walk slowly towards the door. You opened the door only to meet face to face with Luhan who had a bowl of porridge in his hands. "What are you doing standing up?!" he raised his voice when he pushed you in gently to put the bowl on the table and lifted you up in his arms. "What are you doing?! Put me down!" you whispered as you didn't want to shout but he wouldn't listen. He placed you down on the bed and tried to make you stay put but you couldn't. You needed to go back to the province now and you didn't give a damn if you'd die trying to get back there.

Something urgent is happening and you had to get back there. You didn't know what but you knew your aunt wouldn't call unless it's an emergency. "I have to go back." you said as you got up from the bed but he pushed you back down. He pinned you down on the bed with your wrists as the sides of your body. "No. I don't care where you have to go. You're sick. You're not supposed to be moving around!" he hissed but you pushed him off. "Please!" you shouted and your throat hurt really badly. "Something's happening back in the province and I need to be there now. Something might have happened." He saw the fiery expression in your eyes and gulped. "Please," you breathed out and he furrowed his eyebrows. "I have to get back there now. Something's wrong." you sighed with the soreness in your throat killing you and he cursed. "Stay here." was all he said before he took your phone.

He scrolled down your contacts and he stopped on one person's name. He pressed dial and he tapped his feet impatiently on the ground. "Pick up damn it!"

"Sehun!" Luhan shouted and your eyes widened when Luhan called Sehun using your phone. "Look, I need you here now. Pack at least two sets of clothes and meet me in front of the university. Make sure you have a car you can drive in back to the province."

"I don't have time to explain just do it! For Jin Sae!" Luhan shouted before he hung up. "Catch." Luhan called out before he tossed you your phone. You caught your phone swiftfully and he looked around your room. "Where's your bag?" He asked and you pointed at the closet. He walked towards the closet and pulled out a bag pack. He opened the drawers and threw in at least three sets of clothes. He tossed you the bag and you caught it. "Put it on!" he shouted as he went in to the kitchen to find a tupperware. He poured the porridge into the the tupperware and he burnt his thumb a little because he on his thumb as he shut the tupperware tight with one hand. He walked back towards you and handed you the tupperware.

He crouched down in front of you in front of the bed and said, "Get on." You furrowed your eyebrows. "Luhan, this is no time for gam-"

"I'm not kidding! Get on!" He sounded dead serious and you securely put your arms around his neck and he easily lifted you up with his hands gripping onto the back of your thighs as he boosted you up to make sure you were secure on his back. "Are you alright back there?" He asked and you let out a soft "Yes." he walked quickly out of the room and shut the door behind him. He didn't hesitate to pick up the pace as he walked down the stairs and soon he was jogging with you on his back as he made his way towards the front entrance of the university.

"L-Luhan, slow down. You're going to hurt your back." you tried to make him listen but he wouldn't. Your voice was too soft for his ears to hear.

The only thing he had on his mind was making sure you got what you wanted; going back to the province quick. Good enough, when Luhan reached the front entrance, Sehun was there with a car and he opened the door for you. Luhan placed you in the car and pulled the seatbelt on you before Luhan took your bag and the tupperware from your hands. He opened the door to the backseat to put your bag and the tupperware for you and stood there after he closed the door.

Narrator.
"What are you doing just standing there?" Sehun asked as Sehun made his way towards the driver's seat. "What?" Luhan panted as he was growing tired from all the running. Not to mention he spent 20 minutes making that chicken porridge for Jin Sae who was now fast asleep on the passenger's seat. "Get in the car damn it!" Sehun cursed as he got in the car. Luhan hesistantly opened the door and got in. With that Sehun drove off, using the right road to head back to the province.

When she was asleep, she kept coughing from time to time and Luhan would try to pat her back from behind. "Don't do that. It'll make her cough even more." Sehun said as Luhan pulled his hand back before he could even pat Jin Sae's back again. "How do you kno-"

"Friends for years now. I think I should know." Sehun said as he kept a straight face on driving. "How long until we reach?"

"Pretty soon. Say 20 minutes?" Sehun said as he focused on the road. "Did she say why she has to get back?" Luhan gulped as he tried to remember. "She said it was for something urgent. She didn't say anything else." Sehun nodded his head before he stepped on the accelerator and Luhan fell back onto the car seat as he didn't get a warning that Sehun would increase the speed. "Dude!" Luhan shouted but Sehun didn't care. "Fasten your seatbelts then. We have to get there as soon as we can." Sehun said as he easily overtook a few cars in front of them before they reached the province.

Sehun drove them until they reached Jin Sae's house in the village. They drove past some paddy fields and they stopped right in front of a small house nearby the fields. Sehun got down and he went in straight into the house. He's been here countless of times before. "Sehun!" Jin Sae's aunt cried out the moment she saw Sehun coming into the house. "What happened? What's going on?" Sehun asked softly before Jin Sae's aunt just came and hug Sehun tight. "W-what?" Sehun croaked out as he returned the hug. "S-She.." her aunt couldn't go on as she began to sob really loud.

Sehun didn't like this feeling one bit and Jin Sae opened her eyes in the car only to realize they were back in the province. As happy as she was, she couldn't exactly enjoy all of this knowing something had happened. She tried to unfasten her seatbelt but it was pointless. Her hands were shaking and Luhan got down of the car, opened the door beside her and helped her unfasten her seatbelt. He carried her in his arms as it would be faster for her to reach the front door instead of her attempting to walk instead. He placed her down in front of the door and she pushed open the door weakly only to see Sehun and her aunt hugging each other tightly. "What..?" she croaked out softly as she blinked at them.

Sehun broke the hug and he came towards Jin Sae. "J-Jin Sae." Sehun breathed out with a tear rolling down his cheek. "What's going on?" She whispered softly but her aunt couldn't help but pull her away from Sehun to hug her tight. "It'll be alright." Her aunt hushed her and Jin Sae furrowed her eyebrows. "What happened?" Jin Sae grew irritated when no one would answer her. The discomfort in and the weakness in her body wasn't helping with the whole situation either. "Where's mom?" Jin Sae asked as she walked inside the house to enter her mother's bedroom. "No Jin Sae!" her aunt and Sehun cried at the same time but it was too late when Jin Sae entered the room. Luhan stood by the door as he watched all of this take place. What else could he have done?

She entered the room and smiled when she saw her mother's peaceful sleeping face. "Mom.." Jin Sae breathed out as she struggled to walk towards her mother. She kneeled down beside her mother and reached for her mother's hand. "Mom, wake up. I'm here." Jin Sae called out softly as she shook her mother's hand. She furrowed her eyebrows when her mother wasn't waking up. Sehun and her aunt came by the door and Luhan followed quietly behind the two of them. Her aunt kneeled down behind Jin Sae while Sehun couldn't bring himself to walk towards her now. Luhan's mouth gaped open when a tear rolled down Jin Sae's cheek. "M-Mom, this isn't funny. Wake up." Jin Sae called out and her aunt couldn't help but hug her from the back. "She's gone, Jin Sae-ah." her aunt croaked out and Jin Sae's mouth gaped open.

Her breathings got heavier and she managed to pry away from her aunt as she shot up to stand closer to her mother's bed. "No! She can't be!" Jin Sae's voice cracked as she was suffering from a sorethroat and at the same time she can't accept this fact. The pain increasing in her heart was much more painful than the pain in . "Mom! Wake up! I'm finally here!" Jin Sae raised her voice this time even though it would hurt . As much as she didn't want to face the cold truth, she had to. Her mother wasn't exactly the most healthy person out there especially when she's working overtime every single day. Not until one day she fell really ill until she couldn't move. She didn't even want to tell her daughter or anyone about it. Not even her husband or her ex-husband. Her current husband was in overseas and he would return in a few days but up until now, the only person Jin Sae's aunt had contacted was Jin Sae.

"M-Mom!" Jin Sae cried out again, louder this time even though it would make her sorethroat worse but nothing mattered in the moment. "Please open your eyes. I'm finally here. You can see me again!" Jin Sae cried as Sehun came to hug her tight from the back. "J-Jin Sae, please." Sehun begged as he wanted Jin Sae to stop acting this way. It broke his heart and Luhan standing by the door managed to let a tear run down his cheek. "No! She can't be gone! She promised me that one day she'll finally watch me if I perform on stage! Where are all those promises now?!" Jin Sae shouted but her voice cracked half way and she couldn't take it anymore that she fell onto the ground again before hugging Sehun tightly. Her aunt placed a hand over before she turned to look at Luhan. Luhan glanced at the girl on the ground and he couldn't help but just walk away before he would join her in crying with her.

Not once he has seen her in so much pain and now would be the most horrible time of her life. He wanted to walk out of the house but he couldn't when her aunt grabbed his wrist to place a ring on his hands. "W-What's this?" Luhan asked softly and her aunt gave him a weak smile. "Give this ring to her when the time is right." Luhan furrowed his eyebrows as he wanted to return the ring. "I'm sorry but you've got the wrong person. I'm just a friend."

"Just keep the ring and give it to her when it's right. You're not just a friend. You're more than that."

"I'm just a friend." Luhan said as he handed the ring back to Jin Sae's aunt. Her aunt took a step closer before pulling his hand out to place the ring on top of it again. "You should accept your feelings for her. The faster you do, the happier you'll be. And hopefully, she'll feel the same."

"I'm sorry bu-"

"You can't keep running from your feelings forever. I know that look in your eyes very well." Luhan gulped as he looked down on the ring she had placed in his hands. After a while he decided to put the ring in his pocket as he went outside to wait in the car.
