Bonding with My Sister-in-Law 2

Breaking Boundaries

Jessica’s POV

My pharmacology class was dismissed early because of our professor’s emergency meeting in Hankook University Hospital. For highschool students, it literally means no classes but to university students, it means make up classes. My friends were already ranting about it but there I was, silently rejoicing because I could pay a surprise visit at my seobang’s new apartment. I was too immersed in my thoughts of what could Yuri and I do tonight that I didn’t see a person coming, accidentally bumping him—or her.

“Yah, watch where you’re going—AMBER?!”

“Ooh, someone’s thinking deeply about Kwon Yuri just now. What’s up, noona?”

The person indeed was Amber, plastering that trademark dorky grin on her face. She looked so cool in that black and white themed outfit, spiky blonde hair and full black Rayban shades. She became even more handsome but I didn’t care. For the two long years of separation from my seobang, for the two long years that she made my baby sister cry and for sleeping with my sister without my consent, I would rip off that handsome face of hers!

“You idiot, you left a mess two years ago and that’s all you can say?! ‘What’s up, noona?’” I quickly swung my handbag and hit her with it nonstop.

“I’m sorry, noona. Please forgive me,” the llama uttered while shielding her face from my violent attacks. When I got tired with the handbag, I used my fists and threw numerous punches and slaps. We quickly earned the people’s attention and they started flocking around us but I didn’t care at all.

THIS LLAMA HAS TO DIE!

Punch after punch, kick after kick, I didn’t know how many attacks did Amber welcome whole-heartedly. She kept mumbling ‘Sorry’ until I got tired hitting her and the idiot surprised me when she begged down on her knees like praying in front of a saint.

“Mianhaeyo, noona. If you still hate me, you’re free to hit me.”

“Noona, forgive him already! We know you still love him!” I heard one high school student from the audience yelled.

“Forgive your boyfriend, Agassi. He’s saying sorry,” the hotteok ahjumma said too.

“Unnie, how can you not forgive a cute oppa?” another teenage girl followed up.

Aish. Why does Amber have to really look like a guy? Now, we’re being assumed as a couple having a lovers’ quarrel!

“Baby, forgive me. Let’s talk this over please,” Amber pleaded. What? Baby? Does this llama really want to die? I’m sorry, Krys but it looks like your Amber will die in my hands.

“Yah, Amber Liu, get up! Don’t let these people misunderstand us.” I pulled Amber up but she didn’t budge and stayed on her knees.

“I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.” Amber just made it worse when she faked a cry!

Seriously, is this llama really messing with me?!

“Oppa, break up with her and just be with me instead!” another high school girl yelled and it really got into my nerves this time.

“Yah! Your oppa is my sister’s property so get lost!” I yelled back and pulled Amber this time, dragging her out of the circle formed by the crowd.

“Noona, stay here. Let me get my car,” Amber said before freeing her wrist from my hand and ran away without letting me speak. That dork, what is she planning anyway?  A minute later, a black Lincoln sedan stopped in front of me and the passenger seat window rolled down, revealing Amber at the driver’s seat.

“Hop in, I’ll drive you home,” she offered but I pretended not to hear and looked away. Amber got out of the car and opened the door for me. She removed her sunglasses and revealed her eyes full of seriousness. “I want to talk to you, noona. Please, let me take you home.”

I didn’t know why but looking into Amber’s eyes somehow casted a spell on me that I obediently entered the car. As soon as she settled on the driver’s seat, we drove off the campus gates.

“Yah, yah. Where the hell are you taking me?!” I protested when she didn’t turn right on the third block, the way to where our apartment was located.

“Let’s hang out together,” she replied with a grin.

“Amber Liu, did you just kidnap me? Does Krystal know this?” At the mention of Krystal, she immediately hit the brake pedal. Guilt was written all over her face that she avoided looking at me. “So my sister doesn’t know you’re here? She will kill you for sure.”

She let out a deep sigh. “I just want to make it up to you, noona. And I want to talk to you privately.”

“Fine, I’ll give you an hour. I have to see Yuri after this.”

Without arguing further with Amber, she drove off once again and this time parked in front of a salon in downtown Seoul. The llama opened the door for me and assisted me as I step out of her car. Oh yeah, did I mention that her car looked expensive? It looked like my former assistant made it big time already in her chosen career.

“Llama, what are we doing here?” I asked her but she didn’t reply and just hauled me inside the classy hair salon. “Yah, yah, yah, what’s this?”

“Please do everything to bring out the best in her,” Amber told one of the hairstylists and made me sit in front of the giant mirror. I couldn’t do anything anymore when three hairstylists flocked around me. On the other hand, Amber sat across me as one stylist attended her.

“Amber Liu, you’re so dead later,” I threatened.

“Relax, noona. Yuri met a lot of girls in China and they’re way more beau—

“Shut up! I’m not asking,” I snapped at her. “Uh, don’t cut my hair short. A little trim will do,” I told the stylists and I saw how Amber smirked through my peripheral vision.

However, the stylists didn’t just trim my hair. They bleached and coloured it blonde, lighter than my old hair while the blonde llama coloured her hair back to black.

“Why did you change your hair colour? You look cool in blonde.” Did I just compliment this idiot?

“Well, Krystal said she prefers black because I look more handsome in blonde. Your sister is crazy, noona.  She scolded me for being handsome,” Amber said and pouted her lips like a child.

Right, we’re crazy. I don’t want Yuri to be too good-looking too and attract a lot of girls.

I gave Amber an hour for our private talk but we took two hours in the salon. However, when she invited me to grab a cup of coffee in Myeongdong, I didn’t hesitate anymore. I had this feeling that she’s somehow making it up to me for messing up two years ago and bringing Yuri along with her.

“Yah, stay away from me. They’ll think we’re a couple,” I warned her when she playfully put an arm around my shoulder. She immediately distanced herself away from me.

“Aish. You’re too loyal to Kwon Yuri. You don’t even let a friend touch you. Oh well, Krystal won’t probably like the idea of me touching you especially that you used to have—

“Shut up! It’s a mistake, ok? How can you still brag about it,” I replied while trying to hide the pink shades on my cheeks. Seriously, I didn’t know what I found in this llama before when my seobang is much cuter, cooler, smarter, funnier, and even ier than her. Good thing that Amber just laughed at it and didn’t prolong the topic because I felt guilty towards Yuri and to my sister as well.

“Noona, do you want some ice cream? I’ll buy one for you,” Amber told me when we walked past an ice cream parlour.

“You treated me a makeover and then this? What are you really up to?” I asked her. I just couldn’t help but think that Amber’s sudden kindness had a meaning. It’s not that she’s not kind at all because she’s actually one of the kindest persons I’ve ever met (next to my seobang of course) but it’s just so unusual that she’s treating me like a princess.

“Like I said, I just want to make it up to you.” As usual, that’s how she replied.

Amber came back with two cones of strawberry ice cream and handed me one before we continued walking to an unknown destination. I enjoyed the ice cream that Amber bought for me as well as our little walk together. I just realized that I haven’t feel as relaxed as today since I graduated from college and spent all of my time in medical school.

“Here’s my sister’s favourite cafe here in Seoul. The iced Americano here is the best,” she said before leading the way inside the cafe.

“Oh yeah, how’s Jackie? I haven’t heard from her ever since,” I asked her as we settled down on a table by the glass window.

“She just left for Tokyo last night. Don’t worry, she’ll be back soon. Really soon,” she replied.

Amber left for the counter and came back with two cups of iced coffee, followed by a waiter holding a tray of different cake slices.

“I didn’t know which one you prefer so I bought everything,” Amber said while sitting across my seat and pushed the tray of cakes to me. There were eight different flavours, all of them looked delicious. “Oh, this one is mine. Mango overload, Krystal’s favourite,” she said in a dorky childish way. I couldn’t help but smile at her thoughtfulness towards my sister.

“Okay, you can start talking now.” Amber obviously became nervous when I told her that. The dorky smile on her face faded and was replaced by a faint one.

“You can ask me anything,” she replied without meeting my serious gaze.

I knew that Amber’s somehow feeling guilty for bringing Yuri along with her to China but I couldn’t blame her. Yuri explained everything already including what she saw what happened with me and Sooyoung two years ago, the very reason why she left me. The only reason that made me mad towards Amber was leaving Krystal when my sister loves her with all her heart.

“Amber, I want you to know that I’m somehow thankful for taking care of Yuri while you two were in China and for fulfilling her dream of being a chemist together. I know what you’re thinking, you’re blaming yourself for our separation but really, it’s nothing. It’s her fault of not trusting me, it’s my fault of not going after her. So don’t blame yourself, okay?”

Amber just kept her head low and nodded.

“But do you know that I still want to kill you?”

“For leaving Krystal? I know and I’m sorry, noona. I’ll make it up to her, I promise. I won’t let her go ever again, I won’t hurt her anymore—

“You better don’t hurt her anymore, llama or else you’ll taste the fierceness of Hellsica.”

“I’ve seen you go Hellsica earlier already. Don’t tell me you can do worse?”

“If you hurt my sister, I’ll make you live in hell for the rest of your life.” Seriously, I would do anything for my sister to the point of hurting the people who would hurt her. I would tear their muscles apart and crushed their bones into powders, anything for my baby Krystal.

“Noona, I assure you that I won’t hurt her anymore. I’ll do anything, everything for Krystal. Just...give me your blessing,” Amber told me, full determination in her voice. She really looked serious everytime she talks about my sister. I guess Amber really loves Krystal so much. Who am I to be a hindrance in their relationship?

“Fine, you can date my sister again.”

Oh yes, they could date all they want. They’re at the right age; they could even get married if they wanted to. But Yuri and I should get married first or I would strangle this llama to death.

“Please let me marry Krystal.”

Amber’s POV

‘True love comes once in a lifetime, Yiyun. And that once in a lifetime moment came already. She clearly loves you and sees forever with you. Better marry her and not let her go anymore.’

Those were the last words that Jackie noona told me before she left for Tokyo for a site visit. I just laughed when she said that since to be honest, I didn’t think of marrying Krystal yet. It’s not that I don’t want to but I just think that we’re too young for it. We haven’t even fulfilled our own dreams; we haven’t made it up for the wasted two years; we haven’t introduced each other to our parents yet. How could I marry her without our parents’ consent? I love Krystal and I want to do it the right way. I want to marry her when we’re both ready and not regret it afterwards.

But there comes a time in life when you would be left with no choice.

FLASHBACK

“Zhang Yixing, where are you taking me? I said drive back to Krystal’s place, she’s waiting for me,” I told my personal assistant who drove me back from Gimpo to Seoul after sending my sister to the airport. Krystal and I had agreed to eat dinner together somewhere but instead of driving me to the Jung’s lair, he drove to the heart of Seoul district.

“I’m sorry, my lord. Master Liu instructed me to bring you at the Seoul branch,” he replied formally which was unusual of Yixing when we’re alone.

“Oh, he’s here? What’s with the formality all of a sudden? You’re creeping me out,” I told him but he didn’t reply this time and focused on the road.

We reached Eastbrook Seoul and we were welcomed by the staff assembly bow. Zhang Yixing led me to the elevator as we were being trailed by several hotel employees who accompanied us. I didn’t even know how we fitted inside the lift.

“You can change into a finer suit inside, my lord. Please take your time,” Yixing told me as soon as we reached VIP1 and handed me the key card. He then bowed together with the other employees.

“What is this, Yixing? Tell me what’s going on,” I said in Mandarin. My assistant just looked at me with hesitant eyes and just shrugged his shoulders.

“Alright, wait for me. And please, send those people away.”

Without any idea what’s going on, I entered the room to change. There was a rack full of coats in different colours and sizes; long sleeves of different styles were on the rack next to it; a dozen pair of shoes was lined across the floor and different neck ties, bow ties and watches were displayed on a glass cabinet. I was too lazy to pick among them but then again I had to dress myself properly in front of my father; I shouldn’t upset him anymore especially now that I’m planning to introduce Krystal as my girlfriend. So I ended up wearing an all-black suit and silver tie to match up with my father’s definition of ‘formal’.

“Let’s go, bro,” I told Yixing as soon as I went out of the room. But he maintained his silence as he led me to this seafood restaurant on the hotel’s rooftop.

As soon as we reached the place, I immediately recognized my father sitting by the balcony overlooking downtown Seoul. He was in a deep conversation with a full bearded man in his late forties, sitting beside a younger girl in a white dress whom I couldn’t recognize from afar. But just by looking at her from a distance, I could say that she’s pretty somehow.

“Yiyun, at last. Come here and introduce yourself,” my father commanded me as soon as he laid his eyes on me. I wanted to ask Yixing what’s happening but that guy was nowhere to be found anymore. Hesitant, I walked towards their table and bowed for an introduction.

“Good evening, Sir. I’m Liu Yiyun.” That’s when I finally saw the girl who was sitting right beside the old man. She looked refined, classy and definitely beautiful! But Krystal’s much prettier than her.

“Omo. You really grew up handsomely. I knew you would choose a different path right when you were a kid,” the old man told me with a sly smile. What the hell is he implying? Psssh.

“Your Suzy grew into a beautiful woman too, Soobin-ah,” father replied, referring to the girl with gorgeous but poker face who didn’t even look at me. “Yiyun, sit right here and get to know Suzy.”

Uh-oh. I don’t have a good feeling about this.

Dinner was served and I silently ate, constantly glancing at Suzy who looked as awkward as I was. Everytime I catch her glancing at me, I would put on a friendly smile but she ignored me all the time. I wanted to ask her what’s going on but before I could excuse her for a minute, the elders told us exactly what was going on.

“Liu Yiyun, I know I’ve never been a good father to you but I want you to know that you made me feel that somehow I have the son that I never had.” It was the first time that my father talked to me that way that I couldn’t help but doubt the sincerity in his voice. “Your mother and I had always force you to change because we believed that it’s the right thing but we realized that we should support you no matter what you choose to become.”

Like seriously? No, you’re joking, father. You need something from me.

“Suzy-ah, daddy is sorry for not being with you as you grew up, for fulfilling my duties in our company but neglecting my duties as a father to you. I hope you understand that I did those things for our family, for you. And we decided that this is the best way to secure your future,” the old man, whom I found out to be CEO Bae Soo Bin of Sooji Chemicals, told his pretty daughter, Suzy.

The girl just looked at her father hopelessly and just nodded weakly. Mr. Bae met my father’s eyes and they both nodded at each other.

“Yiyun, now I formally introduce to you your fiancée, Bae Suzy.”

END OF FLASHBACK

Life’s always unfair, right? My father accepted me for who I am but I had to marry some girl that he chose for me? I would do everything to make him acknowledge me as her daughter but not this way. Krystal is the only girl I wanted to exchange vows with and no one else! I couldn’t sleep last night, thinking about everything that happened. And this morning, I ended up making a sudden decision.

Marrying Krystal is indeed the only way. Maybe Jackie saw this coming already that’s why she brought the topic up in Krystal’s presence. My girlfriend obviously had no plans yet to think that we only got back together. But I had to marry her without our parents’ consent because they would separate us for sure. I might be selfish and unfair to Krystal for not doing the right thing but I couldn’t bear losing her anymore.

“Are you ing kidding me?!”

As expected from Jessie noona, she freaked out when I asked for her blessing. I wanted to at least have her permission to marry her baby sister but I doubt that she would give it to me.

“Amber Liu, this is not funny. Don’t play a prank on me,” Jessica told me, shaking her head lightly like she really couldn’t believe what I said. Is it really that hard to believe?

“I’m dead serious, noona. Let me marry Krystal.”

I watched how she rolled her eyes and let out a deep sigh.

“At least tell me the reason why you want to marry her all of a sudden,” she spoke sternly this time. “Why are you in a hurry? You just got back together and this? Wait, don’t tell me you’re a second generation chaebol or a princess in the Land of Far Far Away and you’re engaged?”

Aish. She really has to know everything.

But before I could speak anything else, she laughed at her own statement instead. “No, no. Impossible. You once worked a $500 job for me back in college, you can’t be a princess.”

I mentally facepalmed hearing her laugh heartily. “I’m a chaebol kid, alright,” I told her but she just laughed even more. Don’t I really look like one? *sigh*

“Noona, please. I love Krystal and I want to be with her forever. Though I mess up all the time, I promise to make it my life’s mission to make her happy always. I want to spend the rest of my life with her and I want the rest of my life start as soon as possible.”

I might have sounded cheesy and all that but I didn’t care anymore. My lips uttered those words on their own, my tears started to form in my eyes as thoughts of breaking up with Krystal again started to fill my mind.

“This certainty comes once in a lifetime, noona. I never felt so sure. Please trust me. I love Krystal too much that I wouldn’t do anything to ruin our relationship once again. Let me be with her forever,” I pleaded. I was willing to kneel in front of her but she held my hand to avoid me from doing so. She looked at me with teary eyes and gave me a meaningful smile.

“Take care of my sister, llama. And yes, I would let you marry her,” she told me while holding the top of my hand tightly, making me feel how happy she was for us.

But our little private in-law talk was interrupted when I heard that familiar voice.

“UNNIE! DON’T TOUCH MY AMBER!” And there was my gorgeous girlfriend, marching towards our table, darting soul-piercing glares at our connected hands.

“Stupid, what do you think you’re doing?!” I panicked when Krystal finally reached us and she herself removed her sister’s hand off from mine. “Unnie, don’t ever touch what’s mine again, okay?!”

“Krystal, I told you not to barge in.” It was another familiar voice.

Oh dear god, what are they doing here?

“Yuri-ah.” It was Jessica’s turn to panic when she heard her girlfriend’s voice. No matter how hard Yuri tried to hide her jealousy, I saw it in her eyes when our eyes locked.

“Yuri unnie, I told you they’re doing something fishy behind our backs!”

“Seobang, no. We’re just talking. You trust me, right?” Jessie noona tried to search an answer from Yuri but the latter just pulled out a cold blank expression.

“Amber, what’s this? We just got back together!”

“Baby, please don’t misunderstand—

“STUPID! YOU AND ME, OUT!”

Aish. I better calm her down or else I’ll get rejected right away.
