For Krystal's Birthday

Breaking Boundaries

Amber’s POV

Fulfilling the part of the deal was all set and I couldn’t turn back. I left Korea with a heavy heart and flew to China on that same day when I met Krystal and her friends. I was hesitating of bringing her along, my father was already upset with me because of Ji Won, and I didn’t want him to meet Krystal at such an imperfect time. And my little encounter with her together with her judgemental friends made me decided to stay away from her for a while and reconsider our relationship once more.

What would you feel if the person you love with all you heart and soul, the person you fought another life for, the person that you’re willing to sacrifice everything for, the person who actually is your GIRLFRIEND, denied your relationship in front of her friends and told them that you’re just a FRIEND? Your heart could possibly be numb from too much pain right?

Yes, it hurts like hell but I tried my best to understand Krystal. She might still not be ready for a public relationship with a girl in this ever growing homophobic society. I was actually afraid too; not afraid of what others might say to me but of what might others say to Krystal. I didn’t want them bad-mouth the only girl I love. For that reason, I decided to give her more time.

I’m sorry, Krystal.

And I left her on that day with nothing but a note telling her to meet me two months later.

“Is something bothering you, my lord?” It was my secretary/bodyguard, Zhang Yixing, who was personally appointed by my father. He was a decent-looking guy, about the same age as me that I treated him like a friend, disregarding our boss-employee relationship.

“I’m fine, Yixing. No need to worry,” I replied with a faint smile. It’s been more than a month since I left Korea to train being a company executive but seriously, I at this business. If only I had another choice when Ji Won was dying, I would have never ever made that deal with my dad. I might still be by Krystal’s side at the moment. *sigh*

Yixing moved closer and whispered to me this time to avoid the other employees hearing his informality. “Yiyun, I know something’s bothering you. Is it your girlfriend again?”

“It’s her birthday today. I miss her, bro. I can’t wait to see her again,” I replied. One month without Krystal was literally hell for me. I really missed her so much. Her laughs, her naggings, her scent, her touches, her kisses, her voice, I missed everything about Krystal Jung. And now she’s going to celebrate her nineteenth birthday but where am I? I couldn’t even be there by her side.

Argh! This is so frustrating!

“Why don’t you give her a call? You look crazily deprived from her,” he teased me.

“I’m still hurt by what she did, Yixing. I don’t want to go easy on her and pretend like everything’s alright. We both need space and time,” I explained. Of course I was dying to call her but I threw my phone away on the airport trash bin to temporarily cut my contacts from Korea. And Krystal’s one of them. Damn it, Amber Liu. Why didn’t you think of your girlfriend’s birthday? *sigh*

“Can’t you just make this day an exception? It’s her birthday anyway,” he advised me, pushing my mobile phone on the desk. “C’mon, just greet her. One call won’t hurt, boss.”

“I don’t have her number.”

“How can you not know her number?!” Yixing tend to overreact sometimes and raise his voice, making some employees look at him questioningly. “I-I mean, you have to make an overseas call to Korea, my lord.” He rephrased his line earlier to avoid the other employees’ glares.

“I want to. But I don’t have her number.” I sulked on my seat, feeling as hopeless as ever. Maybe I really just had to let this day pass like an ordinary day.

“How about send her something instead, my lord? A card, a gift or something?”

Yixing suggestion seems not bad.

And both Yixing and I engaged ourselves in a brainstorming session of what gift I should send Krystal and how I would make that gift reach her doorstep as soon as possible.

*ring* *ring*

“Zhang Yixing speaking...oh yes my lady, Lord YiYun is with me.”

“Jackie?” I mouthed towards Yixing who replied with a nod and later widened his eyes.

“Ah yes, my lady, I will deliever it as soon as possible!” Yixing’s excited tone was unusual that I couldn’t help but ask him as soon as the call ended.

“What did she say?”

“Yiyun, she’s asking—uh I mean, my lord. Lady Jackie asked me to deliver her some important papers today. I need to meet her as soon as possible.” My assistant who looked excited as ever composed himself when the others looked at him once again.

“Uh, right. Where will you meet her then?”

And a playful smile curved upon my secretary’s face.

“At Eastbrook Hotel Seoul.”

Yixing’s POV

Lady Yiyun was the second daughter of Shanghai’s most influential family, the second heir of Eastbrook Group. I was hired to protect her and be her secretary; I was actually expecting a beautiful feminine girl but the person I met was the exact opposite. She was a boyish girl who even looked more handsome than me. And starting that time, I decided to call her Lord Yiyun instead.

“Yiyun, I know something’s bothering you. Is it your girlfriend again?” I asked her, dropping the formality between us. Yiyun never treated me like her employee; she treated like a good friend instead. I was lucky to have a boss like her.

I couldn’t help but notice how my boss got lonelier and lonelier from the day I fetched her at the airport. And like most people’s reason, Lord Yiyun was upset because of love.

*ring* *ring*

We were busy thinking of what to get for her girlfriend since it’s the girl’s birthday today when suddenly the telephone rang.

“Zhang Yixing speaking,” I answered the call.

“Yixing, are you with Yiyun right now?” I recognize Lady Jackie’s voice from the other line.

“Oh yes my lady, Lord YiYun is with me,” I replied politely.

“Leave her alone for a while. I need the briefcase on my office’s desk in Shanghai branch. Bring it yourself here in the Seoul branch. I need it now,” she said from the other line.

“Ah yes, my lady, I will deliver it as soon as possible!” And she hung up. I couldn’t help but feel thrilled with Lady Jackie’s order; I might be able to help Lord Yiyun too.

“What did she say?” my boss asked me the moment I finished talking to her sister.

“Yiyun, she’s asking—uh I mean, my lord. Lady Jackie asked me to deliver her some important papers today. I need to meet her as soon as possible.”

“Uh, right. Where will you meet her then?”

“At Eastbrook Hotel Seoul.”

As expected, my boss’s eyes widened in surprise and stood up, walked back and forth when she heard what I said. “I could deliver a gift for your girlfriend, my lord. Did you finally come up with something to give her?”

Yiyun stopped walking back and forth and turned to face me.

“Can you really deliver her that gift, Yixing?” she asked me seriously. It was the first time I saw Yiyun that desperate. Maybe she really missed her girlfriend so much. I knew the feeling of longing for someone; I couldn’t sleep at night thinking about my girlfriend in Japan too.

“I’m more than willing to deliver that gift, my lord.”

“Good. Book two tickets to Seoul, the earlier the better,” Yiyun told me and started packing her things, shoving everything in her bag. Two tickets? Could it be...

“Do you already have something for your girlfriend, my lord? Buy it now before—

“You’re not going to take ‘something’ to Seoul for my girlfriend, Yixing.”

I knew it. “Yes, my lord. I’m taking ‘someone’ instead.”

And we smiled meaningfully at each other.

Amber’s POV

Aaaah. How I miss the air here in Seoul.

Yixing and I arrived at the airport at around 4pm. My heart was beating like crazy at the thought of seeing Krystal once again. I hope she’s not mad, I hope she’s still waiting for me. I hope she still loves me.

We decided to part ways for a while; Yixing went to the Seoul branch while I went straight to the nearest flower shop and bought a bouquet of white roses for my girlfriend. Krystal would hit me with this bouquet for sure but I didn’t care. I wanted to see her, wrap her in my arms once again and greet her a happy birthday. And after that, I would go back to China with Yixing again, continue the remaining one month of my training and go back in Krystal’s arms again.

Yes, I decided to tell Krystal everything. I just hope that she would understand. Maybe I could persuade her to go study with me in the States next academic year too. We could date there without thinking of what other people might say and get married after college.

Oh yes, I’ll marry you Krystal Jung. I will love you forever.

*ring* *ring*

My little daydream was interrupted by a call from my secretary.

“Yes, Yixing?”

“I’m sorry, my lord. I didn’t—

“Liu Yiyun! Get your here in my office! Now!” It was my sister’s scary voice from the other line.

If Jackie found out that Yixing brought me with him, she would fire my secretary for sure! And without hesitation, I took a taxi to Eastbrook Hotel Seoul and marched to my sister’s office. Yixing was just standing there, looking all tensed up while my sister looked at me suspiciously.

“I’m sorry, noona. I tagged along Yixing because it’s my girlfriend’s birthday. I swear I’ll go back to China tonight too. Just let me see my girlfriend and give these flowers to her,” I begged Jackie.

Jackie’s eyes widened when she heard me and a wide smile curved upon her face. “Girlfriend? Are you with Jessica now? I’m so happy for you! Take her out for dinner in one of our restaurants. Do you want me to reserve one of the VIP rooms for you? What’s her favourite food? I’ll tell the chef to cook it especially for her,” my sister talked nonstop excitedly when I mentioned my girlfriend. But sadly, she’s not the person that my noona was thinking.

“I-It’s not Jessie, noona.” I saw how my sister frowned and raised an eyebrow at me. She really liked Jessica for me. “But you’ll like her too. She’s actually Jessie’s sister.”

“What?! You ed Jessica in Busan, now you’re dating her sister?!”

“Noona, it was not Jessica who was in Busan with me. It’s Krystal, her sister, the girlfriend that I’m talking about!” I explained. My sister really loved jump into conclusions. *sigh*

“Whatever, Yiyun. Fine! Go and do what you want! I’ll reserve a restaurant and a room for you guys. I’m giving you overnight, Yiyun. You’re going back to China tomorrow. Got it?”

“Got it! Thank you, noona!” I hugged my sister tightly for allowing me to spend some time with Krystal and turned to Yixing after. “Thank you, bro. See you tomorrow.” I patted his shoulder before I ran out of the office.

Jackie noona’s suggestion didn’t seem bad at all. A romantic dinner date with Krystal in one of the hotel’s restaurant would be great. I just needed to choose which food would suit my girlfriend’s taste. Since Krystal loves pasta, shall I choose Italian food then?

I rode the elevator to the hotel’s tenth floor where the Italian restaurant was located. The place was definitely perfect! Candlelit romantic ambiance with classic background music, it reminded me of our lunch date together. I looked around to see if there were many people and found only like three couples having a date.

But I was taken aback when I saw a familiar figure sitting by the window, looking happy while talking to a guy sitting across her. The guy was holding her hand; the girl didn’t seem to care about the guy’s gesture but was actually smiling at the guy too. They looked so good together. And the girl, I thought I was just hallucinating but my eyes were telling me otherwise.

The roses fell on their own, my feet stepped back automatically. I kept telling myself that it’s not her but no matter how much I tell myself, the truth in front of me wouldn’t change.

I guess I don’t have to wish you a happy birthday anymore, Krystal Jung.
