Finally

Breaking Boundaries

Jessica’s POV

“Seriously, Jess. I know how stressing med school is, you should unwind every now and then or you’ll lose yourself before you even graduate,” Sooyoung lectured me over the phone. She’s bugging me to hang out for weeks already but I turned her down all the time.

“Aish. Where the hell is that term?” I mumbled unknowingly while I was busily scanning my thick pharmacology book. It was actually Saturday afternoon but there I was, buried on my textbooks as usual. Sooyoung must have heard me mumbling things that she yelled at me over the phone.

“Yah, Jessica Jung! Are you even listening to me?!”

“Oh, I’m sorry. What did you say again?”

I heard her let out a deep sigh before answering. “I said, you better not stress yourself out. Give yourself a break, Jess.”

“I’m not stressed at all, Soo. You won’t be stressed by something you really love,” I replied.

“Oh really? Then why does Kwon Yuri stress you so much when you love her so much too? I don’t understand your logic, Jess.”

Sooyoung words shut me up immediately. How dare this shikshin remind me of the person I’ve been trying to forget for so long? *sigh* Kwon Yuri, that dork, I tried so hard to keep her picture out of my mind but just a mention of her name, I get crazy in an instant. All the terms I’ve memorized since morning are now clouded by that idiot’s face!

People say that getting yourself busy is the best way to forget about someone. Believe me, I’ve worked double time and studied until I fall asleep on my desk but how can Kwon Yuri still have this effect on me after two long years? Is my love for her still as great as before? Does Yuri still love me? Why did she leave me in the first place? Where did she go? Does she still look as cute as I last saw her? How is she doing lately? Is she working now? Does she have a girlfriend already?

But these questions would remain unanswered until Yuri comes back.

When will you come back, Yul? I miss you so much.

“Jess, are you still there?” Sooyoung called from the other line. I was too preoccupied by thoughts about Yuri that I almost forgot about the person I was talking to.

“Buy me a drink tonight for saying her name.”

“Aigoo. So the magic word is ‘Kwon Yuri’ huh? I’ll pick you up at 7pm then.” And she hung up.

Sooyoung brought me out for dinner in a not so fancy restaurant, just at the burger shop that we first laid our eyes on. I finished my meal in fifteen minutes but as expected for the shikshin, she pigged out for almost an hour. But I had fun watching her munch burgers and fries nonstop; she really looked funny everytime she tries talking while is full.

After eating her countless orders of cheeseburgers, Sooyoung finally dragged me to a pub to keep her promise. The place called Rally Point was located just a block away from my alma mater. Since it was Satuday night, the bar was fully-packed as expected. The place was a typical college bar: mixed smell of alcohol, sweat and smoke in the air, dance floor filled with ty girls grinding their asses of on those not-oh-so-good-looking guys, dancing to the beat RnB music played by the DJ, couples already making out as early as now on their seats. People were definitely having a good time tonight. Maybe I deserve having a good time too.

“Jess, stay here for a while. I’ll just go to the restroom,” Sooyoung said when we finally reached the bar counter. I just nodded and watched her back until she turned left at one corner.

“Screwdriver on the rocks please,” I told the handsome bartender who I assumed to be the same age as me. He immediately served my drink with a wink. I just returned a polite smile and concentrated on my drink, sipping it from time to time. Sooyoung seemed to be taking some time in the restroom considering how much cheeseburgers she ate earlier that I began to feel afraid when guys started darting their erted eyes on me.

But I was surprised when someone wrapped an arm around my waist and whispered ily on my ear. “Hey, babe. Let me buy you a drink.” Terrified by the sudden action, I quickly spun around and slapped the ert’s face so hard.

“ERT!”

“Yah, how dare you hit friendly people?!” the ert whined in pain.

“You deserve that you —Yul?”

The ert turned out to be the most unexpected person, the person I’ve missed all along, and the very person I wanted to see for the past two years. She still maintained those beautiful brown eyes that reflected her sincerity towards me once, those y red lips that used to utter how much she loves me and that I got addicted to kiss too, that definitely gorgeous yet cute face that never left my mind no matter how I tried. Kwon Yuri came back. She was just standing in front of me, looking at me with those cold blank eyes with an expressionless face like a totally different person.

“What’s happening here?” A woman wearing an extremely short backless dress with low neckline suddenly came and to my surprise, she linked her arms around Yuri’s. “Yul baby, are you okay?” I was dumbfounded when the girl started caressing Yuri’s cheek while the latter didn’t seem to budge at all and maintained holding my gaze. The woman glared when she realized that Yuri wasn’t responding to her at all and turned to me. “Yah, how dare you slap my baby!” I was prepared to be hit by the girl when someone stopped her from doing so.

“Don’t dare hurting her.” It was Sooyoung who came and prevented the girl from laying her hands on me. She exchanged glares with the girl until they both calmed down. “I’m sorry, Jess. I shouldn’t have brought you here.”

“No, it’s okay. I hit her first,” I replied and turned to Yuri and the fuming girl again. “I’m sorry,” I told Yuri straight into the eyes. Her expression seemed to change easily; her cold but puzzling stares a while ago then turned into burning furious glares.

“Whatever.” Leaving me with a shattered heart, Yuri just walked back to their table. She was now surrounded with ty girls, being all touchy and flirty with her.

“Jess, do you want to go home?” I heard Sooyoung ask me.

Go home? How can I go home when I just found her?

“No, Soo. We’re not going anywhere.”

We’re not going anywhere until I get her back.

Sooyoung’s POV

Hellsica was almost unleashed when a stunningly handsome girl sneaked her arm on Jessica’s waist. I was also infuriated by the girl’s bold gesture and pushed the crowd until I reached them but recognizing the girl with that long jet black hair and the pair of eyes that scared me when I first met it outside Jessica’s apartment two years ago, I knew I should not meddle with them. But when a girl came and almost hit Jessica, I automatically shielded her, leaving the black-haired girl a step behind. I saw how she almost moved her hand to protect Jessica herself but seeing me might have frozen her on where she was.

Why do you have to be so slow, Kwon Yuri-shi?

“A bottle of whisky please.” I was surprised when Jessica daringly asked the bartender instead of ordering another glass of cocktail.

“Jessica Jung, are you out of your mind?” Knowing how low her alcohol tolerance was, I knew she could pass out soon. “Yah, you don’t have to do it this way. Alcohol is never the solution,” I told her.

“Technically, alcohol is a solution, Soo.”

Without further ado, I just watched her drink several shots. Jessica was too busy drinking to her heart’s content that she was oblivious of how Kwon Yuri flirted with that girl earlier but constantly stole a glance at us. She also never failed to give me a stern scornful look everytime our eyes meet, a proof how much she despised me after she witnessed how Jessica and I kissed two years ago.

Maybe I was at fault too.

FLASHBACK

My body was damn tired after sixteen hours of flight but I didn’t care anymore. I wanted to see her so bad, I wanted to hold her in my arms, and I wanted to tell her how much I love her until now. I couldn’t afford wasting another day, I wasted five years already, I had to earn her back until it’s too late for the two of us.

On the way to the Jung’s apartment, I accidentally overheard someone mumbling things on one corner. Since it was none of my business, I ignored the voice and continued walking until the girl’s voice caught my attention once again.

“Jessica Jung, will you be my princess? Please be my girlfriend...Aish. Whatever, it’s now or never... ”

Threatened by the planned proposal of whoever the owner of that voice was, I scooted to Jessica’s door and pushed the doorbell until the door opened and revealed the girl I have always loved after all those years. Knowing that the person earlier could be eavesdropping and just watching from afar, I purposely made my confession in English. Fortunately, Jessica replied in English when she rejected me, the stranger wouldn’t have an idea about it.

We kissed twice and though the second was a goodbye kiss initiated by Jessica, I still felt triumphant when I could no longer feel someone watching us from afar. My rival might have misunderstood everything that happened and she might be the reason why Jessica rejected me but I didn’t really care. She should have continued her proposal if she really loved her.

Until I stepped on a silver ring on the floor, a simple band engraved with Yuri<3 Jessica on it. My guilt started eating me up alive and I contemplated whether I should give it to Jessica or not. In the end, my conscience won over me.

END OF FLASHBACK

“I’m sorry, Jess.”

“What are you sorry for?”

“For everything.”

“Yah, I’m the one who should be dramatic here so save that drama of yours for next time,” the half-drunk Jessica told me with a faint smile.

Maybe I was more of a coward than Kwon Yuri. She might have feared rejection after she saw the person she loves kiss someone else but being unable to bring myself on saying the truth in front of Jessica was no brave act either. Or maybe I should not say it. I didn’t want to lose even the friendship I share with Jessica until now.

Choi Sooyoung, you have to do something and make everything fall back to where they belong.

Yuri’s POV

“Let’s go somewhere else, baby,” Hyuna whispered while planting feathery kisses on my neck but I just ignored every move she made. I was too busy eyeing that walking bamboo who happened to be Jessica’s girlfriend, the same person who messed my proposal two years ago. I’ve been observing them closely for quite some time now and the bamboo smirked at me several times already.

On the other hand, Jessica was chugging down the whisky all by herself and I couldn’t help but think how she would go home after getting drunk. Oh well, she had her girlfriend with her.

And they might end up having a steamy hot in that bamboo’s place tonight.

“Sh*t!”

Frustrated by the thought, I pulled Hyuna for an aggressive kiss and plunged my tongue deeper insider while I her relentlessly. She let out an evil laugh when she finally got me triggered. But the building pleasure was immediately ended when I heard Jessica’s voice.

“Yah, where are you taking me?!” I panicked when I heard Jessica’s dolphin screech amidst the loud disco music. She was being dragged by her girlfriend against the crowd, on the way out of the pub.

Stupid walking stick, where are you taking Jessica?!

Without hesitation, I pushed Hyuna away and every person that came in the way, afraid that she would take advantage of Jessica’s drunken state. The reason why I was doing that wasn’t clear for me too since my body automatically moved on its own, yeah, it was my voluntary muscles’ fault.

Upon reaching the pub’s entrance, I immediately felt something cold on my wrist. Someone pushed me hard on the wall, face first, and I felt my hands were being tied together. No, they were being...handcuffed!

“Oops, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you’re that too weak,” a familiar voice said behind me. My body was being pushed too hard on the brick wall that I felt like my face was going to tear anytime.

“S-Stop, m-my g-good-looking f-face will—

“Soo, stop it! You’re hurting her!” And I felt the hand released me in an instant.

“This idiot seriously needs a whack on the head but I’ll leave all the beating up to you, Jess.”

Jess? Jessica? Jessica Jung?

“Yul, are you alright? I’m sorry it has to be like this,” Jessica said as she worriedly attended me, cupping my cheeks and checking if I earned some scars. Her ice cold hands literally froze me that I didn’t have the chance to protect the wall that I built. Yes, a wall just like Amber’s but the wall was just halfway done that Jessica managed to get through it. Aish.

“Kwon Yuri-shi, I’ll leave Jessica with you,” the girl who harassed me just now said with a smirk. “And Jess, I hope you clear this idiot’s mind tonight.”

“Yah, you called me ‘idiot’ twice already! You want a piece of me, huh? Let’s see who the idiot between us is,” I challenged the bamboo girl and started kicking carelessly but Jessica stopped me before I could hit the girl.

“Maybe next time,” the girl replied with an irritating wink. “Good luck,” she told Jessica and kissed her cheek before leaving. Aish, do they really have to act intimate in front of me?!

My annoyance easily subsided when Jessica turned to face me and gave me a drop dead smile that my heart skipped a beat. She looked sober with only a tint of pink on her cheeks that I found irresistibly cute. I couldn’t help but panic once again when she moved closer and closer to me until our faces were only an inch apart. But my stupid body didn’t move at all.

“Y-Yah, y-you—

Jessica planted a quick peck on my lips, enough to shut me up and freeze me on where I was. The feeling was like I was a kid being kissed for the first time; my face was as red as a cherry for sure. It took some time before I recovered from her little gesture and when I did, I tried my luck on breaking away from the handcuff.

“Jessica, will you please get this thing off me?”

“I missed you.” It was short and simple but the way she looked at me in the eyes when she said those words was just so sincere. Okay. It would take some time again for me to recover.

“Yul, let’s talk.”

“We’re talking,” I said impatiently while wiggling nonstop to free myself from the handcuff, avoiding her cold but loving eyes.

“Let’s grab a cup of coffee.”

“Alcohol and coffee is a bad combination. Both are bases, if you know what I mean.”

Please Jessica, don’t make it difficult for the both of us.

“Then let’s just walk around and sober up.”

“You’re clearly sober already considering how you came up with this sh*t. Now please, remove this thing from me, I have to go back inside.”

“You’re free to go back inside since you’re feet are free but it looks like you really wanted to stay,” Jessica told me with a teasing smile that got me defeated in the end.

Are my walls made of jelly? What the hell happened?

“Orange juice and walking you home.”

Jessica’s POV

Maybe the dork still has some feelings left for me, considering how she followed me and Sooyoung out of Rally Point, making it easier for Sooyoung to execute her ‘plan’. Yes, I knew nothing about it. She just made it happen. I didn’t even know where Sooyoung got that handcuff for heaven’s sake! She just said that it’s the only way for Yuri to talk to me.

But the handcuff didn’t serve its purpose tonight since Yuri willingly offered to walk me home. I was happy that somehow Yuri gave me a chance to talk about us. Talk, yes, that’s all we need but the idiot’s doing a great job in keeping shut until we reached the front door of my apartment.

“Now give me the keys, Jessica-shi.”

But instead of giving her what she needed, I sealed her lips with mine instead. Yuri seemed like she had no idea that I harassed her just now since I took advantage of her handcuffed hands. But when she prolonged our kiss and pinned my body between her and the door, I believed that she just really didn’t care anymore if we harass each other.

She kissed me slowly like I was a fragile thing, making me feel how much she cares for me until now. It was nothing compared to the way she kissed that girl earlier at the bar but she didn’t fail to make me feel loved with the way she’s kissing me now. It was gentle yet intoxicating, subtle but obsessing. The kiss lasted for almost five minutes until she kissed my forehead and leaned on me. I just maintained the silence between us as we catch each other’s breath.

“I asked for the key. What’s with the kiss?” she told me before pulling her face from mine and met me with her questioning eyes.

“Oh, the key. I heard you say kiss,” I teased. I opened the apartment door to escape from Yuri’s interrogations and found the place still dark. Maybe my sister had no plans going home tonight and celebrated with her friends after Victoria’s wedding.

Yuri followed me to the living room and didn’t fail to bring the keys-kiss topic up again and whined like a child. “I did say keys but not kiss. You’re such a naughty girl,” she replied.

“Ooooh. Am I really the naughty one here? Fine, no more kissing. Let’s just talk.” I couldn’t help but smile at Yuri’s pissed expression though her face was as red as a tomato now.

“But Amber once said that talking while kissing is fun. Why don’t we try it?” Yuri teased this time.

“Yah, don’t dare mentioning that llama’s name inside my house. Good thing that Krystal’s not here,” I scolded her. My sister would probably go berserk again if she heard the name. “And besides, Krystal once said that talking while kissing is not a good idea. You’ll lose yourselves before you even finish talking about the something.”

“How about talking while hugging?”

Yuri’s tomato face turned as red as a cherry which I found so irresistible that I threw my arms around her. I felt like crying when Yuri snuggled closer to me, making me feel how much she missed me. Wanting to feel her arms around me, I unlocked her handcuff and threw it away. Yuri didn’t fail to grant my wish when she finally returned the hug and assured me security in her arms. How I yearned for this to happen for so long.

“Will your girlfriend kill me if I hug you like this?” she told me in her sweet husky voice.

“No, she’s not violent at all. In fact she’s the sweetest person who ever existed,” I replied, still resting my head on her chest, hearing the sound of her heart beat.

Yuri let out a deep sigh. “She’s lucky to have you.”

“I’m lucky to have her too.”

“Do you love her, Sica?”

I just smiled as she called me Sica once again. “Of course. I love her so much. She’s just too stupid not to know that.”

“Then maybe you should tell her every day.”

“I’ll do that from now on.”

Yuri loosened her arms around me and weakly removed my hands from her. I knew what exactly this dork was thinking and I couldn’t let her walk away from me anymore. Thus, I pulled her back in my arms for a tighter hug.

“You idiot, are you going to leave me again?”

“But Sica, you said that you already have a girlfriend.” Loneliness was evident on Yuri’s voice.

“How can I tell her that I love her everyday if she’s going to leave me?”

Yuri fell silent for a while and let out a deep sigh again.

“I’ll take you back from her once she left you.”

Seriously, Kwon Yuri was so dense that I couldn’t help but hit her stupid head, hoping that she’ll realize what I was trying to say.

“Aw. What’s that for?” Yuri whined while caressing the spot that I hit. Her eyes widened when I showed her my hand with a silver ring on my finger.

“I love you, Kwon Yuri. I will never get tired of telling those words to you every day. You left me for two years already; I won’t let that happen ever again. Sooyoung and I, we’re just friends. She’s my first love, my first girlfriend, but you Kwon Yuri will be the last. I know you still love me so stop playing hard to get and just come back to me.”

I didn’t know where I got all that courage from but I was glad that I finally had the chance to say those words. Yuri looked like she was dazed by my confession that she just stared at me blankly.

“So I am your girlfriend?” the idiot asked me and I just nodded when she finally got what I meant. “And you are my girlfriend?” I nodded again. “We’re together now?”

“I’m officially yours since two years ago. The moment I wore this ring when Sooyoung returned this to me, I am already yours. Or even before that, just when you were still planning how you will ask me to be your girlfriend, I was already yours—

Yuri didn’t let me finish when she wrapped her arms around me.

“Sica, I love you. I love you so much. I’m sorry for being too stupid, for not trusting your love me. It’s just that you have always been my dream girl like literally, from the moment I met you, I dream of you every night and even during my siestas and class naps. I just couldn’t believe that you would fall for a ert like me. I’m sorry for leaving you, Sica. I really am. Please let me make it up to you from now on. I promise, I won’t break your heart. I love you, Sica.”

“Promise?”

“I promise.”

“You won’t cheat on me?”

“I never cheated and will never cheat on you.”

“Really? Then who’s that b*tch at the club earlier, huh?! How dare you make out with another girl and cheat on your loyal girlfriend, you stupid, idiot Kwon Yuri?!”

And I started throwing fists at my idiot girlfriend.

“Seobang, where did you go after that night? I turned the whole Seoul upside down just to look for you but you’re nowhere to be found,” I asked Yuri while we were resting in each other’s arms after getting tired of running after each other.

“Amber brought me to China with her,” she simply replied.

“Amber did what? Yah, so you two were together all along?!”

I can’t believe that the two idiots were in this together!

“Well, sort of. We finished our degree together in Hongkong and worked at—

“Now where the hell is that dork?! How can she leave my sister and brought my girlfriend as well?! I’m really going to skin that llama Amber Liu alive!”

Amber Liu, you idiot! You shouldn't have left with Yuri in the first place!

“Relax, Sica. I’m back already. You should thank her instead for being there for me or else I could have ended up in a mental asylum.” Yuri coaxed me by planting little kiss all over my face. “And speaking of Amber Liu, let’s take a selca together and tell her that we’re back together.”

Without arguing further, Yuri and I smiled cutely together at the camera and *click*.

“Amber will be thrilled when she heard this,” Yuri said excitedly while clattering her fingers on her mobile phone to tell her friend the good news. “Sica baby, don’t be mad at her. As for your sister, Amber had her own reasons why she left her.”

“Yah, Kwon Yuri! Are you siding with that llama now?”

“It’s not like that. I just happen to know everything that Amber went through so you better not judge her just like that.” Avoiding a further argument with my girlfriend, I just shut my mouth up.

*beep*

“Oh, Amber replied. She said—uh, nothing. She said nothing,” Yuri nervously said and kept her phone away from me.

“Yah, what did the llama say?!” Yuri protected her phone from me but I hit her arms so hard that she lost grip of it and the phone landed on my hand. “Let’s see...Congrats, Yul! I’m happy for you and Jessie noona. Krystal and I are back together now too. We’ll see you tomorrow.”

Attached to the message was a picture of my sister and the llama who were acting lovey dovey and smiling happily at the camera, lying on the same bed. SAME BED!

“AMBER LIU YOU IDIOT, I’M REALLY GOING TO KILL YOU!”
