Jessie's Heartbreak

Breaking Boundaries

Jessica’s POV

How are you, Amber? I miss you so much already. :’(

I tried my best not to think about Amber but I just couldn’t get her dorky image off my mind while the sincere and joyful moments we shared together during our ‘date’ also played on repeat. These days without Amber made me stressed out even more but I constantly withdraw strength by just looking at our happy couple image. Experiencing the dork’s warm embrace made me yearn for her even more. I tried rejecting the thoughts of her once again and focused on my thesis.

“Jessica-shi, are you okay?” I heard Kwon Yuri’s voice. She made me step out of my thoughts and brought my wandering mind back to the organic chemistry lab. “You’re spacing out too much. Do you want to take a rest?”

It was Saturday night and I was working on the lab again with Kwon Yuri. She might not be as good as Amber but she tried her best to come up with successful results. And Yuri was definitely attractive; she had this charming smile and strong aura that could make any guy or girl drawn into her. But she couldn’t match up to Amber. You’re just biased, Jessica Jung.

“Pack up, Yuri-shi. Let’s call it a night,” I told her weakly and started arranging my papers. I didn’t know why my heart felt uneasy right now but one thing’s for sure, every heartbeat calls out for Amber. I really had deeply fallen in love with her.

“Are you sure, Jessica-shi?” Yuri asked me once again.

“Yes,” I simply replied as I shoved my lab gown inside my bag. “Did you receive a message or a call from Amber?” I couldn’t help but ask; I didn’t hear anything from Amber since Thursday night.

“Nope, but I’m sure she’s fine,” Yuri replied softly as she started cleaning up without even looking at me. Her concerned tone changed all of a sudden. Is she mad or something?

“Where will she stay there? Is she with her classmates?” I blatantly asked since I was really too desperate to find out how Amber’s doing. The dork didn’t even think of telling me what’s happening in Busan. Uh. It’s none of your business, Jessica Jung. You’re not her girlfriend for real! -.-

*ring* Yuri’s phone rang and I could see her raised her eyebrows when she saw who the caller was.

“Yoboseyo,” she answered weakly as she glanced back at me. “Uh, yeah. We’re doing fine. How about you? Did you do it already?”

Is it Amber? I couldn’t help but continued eavesdropping as I pretended fixing my things.

Yuri’s irritated face suddenly brightened up seconds later, making me even more curious about what they’re talking about. “Woah?! Really?! Good for you then! Yeah. Have fun!”

“What did Amber say?” I asked Yuri who tucked her phone back in her pocket. I knew it was Amber. How can that dork not drop a single call at all when I’m here worrying too much about her?! >.<

Yuri looked away when I asked her like she was hesitating to tell me what Amber said. “Okay, don’t tell me. I guess it’s not really my business,” I scowled before I prepared to leave. But I regretted asking about it with Yuri’s next reply. She let out a deep sigh before breaking the saddest truth in front of me.

“A-Amber p-proposed, th-the girl said y-yes, th-they’re officially on.”

Yuri’s POV

Amber, Amber, Amber. Nothing came out of Jessica’s lips but Amber. I came running to the lab because I thought she called me up for work, not to answer her questions about Amber! That llama was planning to propose to Krystal for heaven’s sake! And you Princess Jessica should stop worrying about her since she already had the girl she loves by her side!

But I couldn’t utter those words straight to her face. I couldn’t tell her to stop loving Amber and love me instead. So I just contented myself by watching my princess daydream from afar.

*ring* I picked up Amber’s call in front of Jessica.

“Yul! Krystal said yes! We’re officially a couple now!” Amber said happily from the other line. The llama did ask Krystal to be her girlfriend and she was lucky enough for that girl to say yes. I couldn’t be even happier for them after hearing the good news. My friend finally found the love of her life after going through two long miserable years.

“What did Amber say?” Her Royal Highness asked me with her scary death glare that I lost a grasp of myself. I shouldn’t be the one to tell her this but her eyes really scared the hell out of me that I ended up saying the harsh truth.

“A-Amber p-proposed, th-the girl said y-yes, th-they’re officially on.”

Uh. Stupid, Kwon Yuri! Why couldn’t you keep your mouth shut?!

Silence then filled the lab. I just kept my head down to avoid seeing Jessica’s reaction. I couldn’t bear seeing the pain all over her beautiful face, the pain caused by her one-sided love for Amber.

“I-I’ll g-go home first,” she told me in a cracking voice before slowly walking out of the lab.

Oh no no. Don’t cry, please. A part of me was urging me to walk her home but I knew she needed time for herself so I just sneaked like an NIS agent far behind for her not to notice but close enough to keep my eyes on her. Her Royal Highness was walking like a soulless individual that she accidentally bumped on someone for several times. I saw how she ignored those people while they just scowled at her.

Jessica stopped in front of a convenience store while I blended with the other people on the streets and waited for her. Buying something to eat, I guess? But I was surprised when she came out with a paper bag and a pack of Hite. Aish. You’re going to treat yourself with alcohol too, huh? Tsk.

“Jessica-shi!” I called her as I walked towards her. This time I had the chance to see her puffy eyes up close. Her beautiful face looked so pale; her deep brown eyes were sparkling with tears. Seeing her in that state was more than enough to pierce my heart a thousand times.

“Uh, Yuri-shi. Why are you here?” she asked, looking away to hide her swollen eyes.

“O-Oh. I-I’m going to buy uhmm ahh a hammer. Y-Yes, a hammer,” I stuttered like a child on her early stage of speech development. Jessica’s brows wrinkled all of a sudden that I started to become nervous inside. Uh, Kwon Yuri. What a lame excuse. A hammer at a convenience store? -.-

“They don’t sell hammer here,” Jessica replied weakly.

“Ah, r-really? Well, I just assumed,” I answered sheepishly. Of course, there’s no hammer here. -.- “Uhmm. Drinking all by yourself?”

“Y-yeah,” Jessica said with a faint smile. “Do you want to drink with me? I’ll pay you extra for working overtime.”

My heart leapt out of my chest when she asked me that but her last statement made me frown. “Uh, Jessica-shi. You don’t have to pay me for being a friend,” I told her. “Let me buy my drinks too.”

We bought a few more bottles of soju and another pack of Hite before walking home to my dorm. Jessica’s apartment was too far that we just decided to drink at my place. Upon reaching home, I immediately cleaned my stuffs and shoved them under my bed.

“Sorry, the room’s a mess right now,” I told her as I set the table for drinking session.

But I just found her frozen on where she was with her eyes just fixed at Amber’s empty bed.

Jessica’s POV

My heart felt like being stabbed by a knife, hammered by a lumberjack and electrified at a high voltage all at the same time. Amber has a girlfriend now. T.T And there I was in her room, in front of me was the small but comfortable bed where Amber sleeps every night. It was full of my beautiful memories with her; it was where we slept together, where I woke up in her loving arms, where she kissed me first. I thought those things meant something for her too. But I was wrong. /3

“Jessica-shi, the ice cubes are starting to melt,” Yuri told me before I lost myself once again. I turned to see Amber’s roommate sitting by the dining table, smiling like an idiot in front of me. She offered me a can of Hite before pouring a shot of soju for herself.

“Mix them all,” I ordered, making Kwon Yuri’s eyes widened. “They say somaek is the best treatment for a broken heart.” It would be better to get drunk and forget about Amber even for a while. *sigh*

Yuri did mix some somaek for me and I drank them straight until I felt numb and dizzy.

“Are you okay?” Yuri asked me in a gibberish voice.

“Stop asking me that,” I scowled when she reminded me of Amber. My handsome assistant asks me the same question for so many times. Amber, I’m not okay right now. My heart hurts because of you.

“Yah, forget about Amber,” the drunk Kwon Yuri told me before drinking another glass.

“And who are you to tell me that?” I replied sarcastically. My head hurts a lot and this idiot Yuri was making it worse. “I, Jessica Jung, love that dork Amber Liu so much,” I told her blatantly.

“You’ll get over her soon, I assure you,” she told me and we drank a few more glasses until we both got crazily drunk. “Yah, Jessica-shi. Don’t get too attached to that bed,” Yuri said in a drunken voice and pointed a finger at Amber’s bed.

“Yah, I have memories with Amber on that bed!”

“But she has memories with her girlfriend on that bed too!”

My heart screamed in pain at what Yuri said. Damn this alcohol, it’s not taking into effect. Amber, please tell me that everything Kwon Yuri told me was not real. T.T

Tears began to roll down from my eyes and I sobbed like a child. Tell me they’re not real, Amber. T.T

I felt someone’s arms wrapped around me, giving me that familiar warmth, it was Kwon Yuri’s. “Ssshh. Don’t cry,” she told me as I nestled my sobbing face on her shoulder. She gently caressed my hair and patted my back, telling me that everything would be alright. Yuri did her best to comfort me but it wasn’t enough to lessen the pain in my heart.

“Let’s drink more,” I told her and pulled off from her hug but I was surprised when she pulled me back and captured my lips this time.

The feeling of her lips on mine was definitely not the same tingling feeling that I felt when Amber and I kissed. But I just found myself kissing her back too. Kwon Yuri was one real good kisser, she playfully teased me with her tongue and I opened my mouth to welcome her. Our kiss got deeper and our tongue fought like swords until we both gasped for air.

We pulled off for a while but went back nibbling each other’s lips once again. Yuri scooped me out of my seat without parting her lips from mine until I felt my back laid on the bed. My hands automatically wrapped around Yuri’s neck as we shared more passionate kisses.

“Let me love you, princess,” Yuri uttered. She buried her face on my neck and showered me with kisses. I couldn’t say no to the pleasure she was giving me right now. Every kiss and every touch felt so good that I just let her continue what she was doing. Even I knew where we would end up to.
