Krystal’s POV

“YAAAAAAA! WAKE UP, BABY SIS!”

Unnie’s dolphin screech made me snap out of my dreams but it wasn’t enough to make me get up from my bed. My eyes still felt heavy and I just wanted to go back to my deep slumber. Sleeping was the only thing I could do to ease the pain in my heart; it was the only way to make me forget.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! YAAAAH! GET UP, BIRTHDAY GIRL! GET UP!”

My sister hit me continuously with a pillow but I just didn’t care. I wanted to sleep even at an important day like this. Today’s my birthday but I had no plans celebrating it with anyone but...

“AMBER MIGHT COME—

“Amber? Where’s Amber?” Hearing that name was more than enough to make me frantically jump out of bed and search every corner of the house like a CSI agent. But I didn’t see even the shadow of the person my heart was aching for these past few weeks. Disappointed, I weakly walked back to my room’s direction but was blocked by Jessica unnie instead.

“It’s time for breakfast, sis. C’mon, I cooked a delicious meal for you,” my older sister told me and pushed me to a seat on the dining table. She did prepare a sumptuous Korean breakfast for the two of us and of course, a bowl of seaweed soup for me. But I really had no appetite, I just wanted to go back to sleep for the rest of the day.

“Yah, why are you so gloomy? It’s your birthday, sis. You should be happy,” unnie said before sitting in front of me and started picking some egg rolls to put on top of my rice bowl.

You know the very reason why, unnie. *sigh*

“You should eat, sis. Or else Amber would find you skinny and not y anymore.”

And with unnie’s words, I started eating spoonfuls of rice, egg rolls, kimbap and any other food that my chopsticks could reach. No, Amber can’t look at other girls. Her eyes were meant to look at me!

“Aigoo. This kid only listens when I mention Amber,” my sister muttered while eating.

Her mention of Amber’s name affected me as usual but I felt lonely this time. It’s been thirty six days already since my llama left me and I didn’t know how I survived those days without her. I really missed her so much! But I could do nothing but wait for our 100^th day, the day she promised to meet me on the same place where we first met. And that day’s like twenty five days more!

Amber left me and I was at fault. My fear ate me up again and I knew she’s hurt by what I did.

But heaven knows how much I love you, Amber. Come back to me, babe. I promise not to hurt you again. I’ll take good care of your heart, I swear.

“Does Yuri unnie still have no idea where Amber is?” I couldn’t help but ask again. I asked every common friend we had; I even asked Kim Ji Won the b*tch, but she didn’t seem to know too.

“C’mon, Krys. When will you get tired asking where she is? Just wait for her, okay? She told you when and where you two would meet again. You have to be patient.”

“But unnie, I miss her already. I just want to catch a glimpse of her face.”

“Sis, you have her pictures everywhere in your room already. There’s even a life-size poster of that dork behind your door! Can’t you still get enough of her?”

Yes, I placed Amber’s poster in replace for Kai’s. I couldn’t wait to let my llama see the fruit of her cute jealousy. But when could I show her that? *sigh*

We finished eating breakfast and I jumped on the couch to watch something that would make me forget about Amber for a while. But it seemed that every channel was made to remind me of her! tVN was showing Grandpas Over Flowers and that penguin Sunny was the guest, TLC was showing how to make tuna cheese white fettuccine pasta, Discovery Channel was showing a documentary about llamas. Maybe I really should not forget about Amber even a single second.

*ding dong*

Aish, who the hell is that?!

“Unnie! The door!” I yelled. I was too lazy to get up from the couch.

“You open it! I’m busy! And what if it’s Amber?!”

Amber, Amber, Amber. I jumped off the couch and ran for the door. However, it didn’t reveal the person I wanted to see. But still, the familiar figure surprised me.

“Yunho oppa?”

“Krystal!” The guy in front of me threw his arms around me. “Happy birthday!”

“Uh, o-oppa. I-I can’t breathe.” I complained as I tried to shake him off from me.

“Oppa?! Oh my god, it’s really you!” It was unnie’s turn to be caught in Yunho oppa’s arms and the three of us shared a mini reunion hug.

Jung Yunho, he’s my favourite guy cousin whom I haven’t seen for a long time since he started working as a model in Japan. Seeing him again made slightly happy. He’s one of the people I trusted the most, he was like my biological brother.

“Oppa, what brings you here?” I asked him while unnie prepared something for him to drink.

“Of course for your birthday treat!” he kidded. His playfulness made me smile for the first time in thirty six days. “Oh, do you have plans for today? I was planning to take you out.”

I have plans, oppa. But the person involved is not here with me.

“Why don’t you spend some time with Krystal, oppa? You have lots of catching up to do.” Unnie came with a glass of apple juice and handed it to our cousin.

“That’s a good idea. Won’t you join us, Jess?”

“No. I have to meet someone.” I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at unnie. She didn’t tell me she had other plans for today. And it’s her little sister’s birthday for heaven’s sake! “Sorry, Krys. I’ll try to catch up for dinner, okay?”

Do I look like I have a choice?

Yunho oppa took me to the amusement park where he rode the carousel with me thrice and to the department store where he bought everything I wanted. Oppa really spoiled me too much, that’s what I loved about him. He really treated me like a real sister. We were so comfortable with each other that skinships meant nothing to us. The ice cream stand vendor even mistook us for a couple. My birthday turned out to be not as happy as I imagined but thanks to Yunho oppa, it was quite fun. For a short period of time, I forgot my heartache about Amber.

“Krystal, there’s this fancy restaurant that I really wanted to try. They say the pasta there is to cry for. Won’t you mind treating your oppa at that place?” he told me with flapping eyelashes.

“Aigoo. Stop acting cute. It’s disgusting. Fine, let’s eat dinner there.” How can I resist Yunho oppa’s annoying aegyo?

We arrived at the Italian restaurant oppa was referring to. It was located at one of the most luxurious hotel in the heart of Seoul.

Candlelit tables, rose petals on the carpeted floor, violin music being played live, the place was a perfect venue for romantic dates.

How I wish you’re here with me now, Amber. *sigh*

“Now tell me about this boyfriend of yours,” oppa surprisingly asked me that while waiting for dinner to be served. “Your sister mentioned it to me once in an email. She even told me that you two fought over that person but you won.” He laughed; I got carried away by his laugh too.

I hesitated at first but I decided to tell him about Amber. “Well my boyfriend’s actually a girl.” I waited for Yunho oppa to react but he didn’t seem to be surprised and just blinked while waiting for me to continue. “Hmm. She’s handsome, dresses and acts like a guy. And actually, she’s no less than a guy. She’s a true gentleman and much much better than those jerks.”

I found myself smiling as I told oppa my love story with Amber. From the moment we met each other, our very first date, the obstacles that we made through, until the very last encounter we had thirty six days ago. Yunho oppa looked like he didn’t care that the person I’m in love with was a girl. He even took Amber’s side!

“Aish. You should stand up for Amber! Ha! You deserve the pain that you’re feeling right now, Krys.”

“I did stand up for her after that, Yunho oppa.”

FLASHBACK

*slap*

“Krystal Jung! Are you out of your mind?!” Jiyoung was fuming when she heard the truth from my own lips. “Oh my god, I can’t believe this, Krys. How could you?!”

“Keep it cool, Jiyoungie! Krystal didn’t do anything wrong!” It was Sulli who defended me.

“How can you side with her, Ssul? Don’t tell me you’re gay too?!” Hara accused and battled with Sulli with her eyes.

“Break up with that dyke, Krystal Jung. Or else I will sack you out of the organization!”

I just smirked at Jiyoung. “Is that even a threat, Kang Jiyoung?”

“Krystal, don’t talk back! How can you still talk like that?! Your career depends on our sorority!” Hara retorted.

“Girls, let’s talk about this. Please reconsider,” Sulli tried to convince our other ‘sisters’.

“Shut up, Choi Jinri! Unless you want to be sacked with Krystal!”

Sulli looked afraid when she heard Jiyoung’s threat that she just looked at me with apologetic eyes. I just forced a smile at her and nodded to tell her that I would be fine.

“For the last time, Krystal Jung, break up with that dyke.”

“Kick me out of the organization? Fine! Strip off the title role at the musical from me? Fine! No longer make friends with me? Fine! Do what you want to do but I will never ever break up with Amber Liu!”

*slap*

END OF FLASHBACK

“Well done, Krystal! Now you just have to wait for that Amber to return, get married in the States the next day and you two live happily ever after!” Yunho oppa told me excitedly.

“Yah, oppa. Are you really in favour of my relationship with her? I mean she’s—

“A girl? I don’t see anything wrong with it.”

“Really, oppa? I can’t wait to introduce her to you!”

“Yeah. I can’t wait to introduce Jaejoong to you too.”

After a couple of more talks over dinner, Yunho oppa and I decided to go home. We were walking out of the restaurant when I accidentally stepped on a bouquet of white roses lying on the floor. I picked it up to avoid more accidents and looked around for who may the owner be. But my eyes widened when I read the message on the bouquet’s card.

Krystal,

Happy 19^th birthday, babe! I love you. *kisses*

Your stupid dorky llama,

The bouquet had found its owner but the sender was nowhere to be found. I ran as fast as I could until I couldn’t feel my legs anymore, leaving my cousin behind. He would understand for sure. But the most important thing as of the moment was to find Amber.

My llama, she came back! She was just there, I knew she was there. But why didn’t she approach me? Yunho oppa won’t—Wait! Did she think that I was in a date with my cousin?! Nooooooo!

“Damn it, Amber. Why do you always misunderstand?”

I felt my eyes burning as the elevator travelled down and I ran again until I reached the hotel’s ground floor. My eyes searched around the lobby and there was no sign of Amber. I went out hoping to see her outside the hotel but a white SUV stopped in front me instead.

“Krystal!” The car’s passenger window revealed an unusual worried face of my diva friend Key.

“Hop in, Krys! We have no time!” It was Vic unnie who spoke this time who was sitting on the driver’s seat. She was wearing the same worried expression as Key.

“But Amber was here earlier! I’m certain that she’s here at the hotel!” I told them but Key got off the car and dragged me to the back seat before sitting back on his seat again. “Yah, Amber might be here! I have to look for her!” I protested and tried to get off the car again but Vic unnie already stepped on the gas pedal.

“She was at Sung Jin an hour ago. I even got to see her,” said Key. “But sorry Krys, she managed to escape us. I didn’t know that dinosaurs are fast runners.”

“How is she? What happened? Did she ask for me?” I continuously asked.

“Amber just got back from China but she’s leaving again!” Vic muttered while driving. “Aish, that kid is so hard-headed! Yah, Krystal, are you really dating another guy now?!”

Amber really did misunderstand. *sigh*

“No, unnie! You know I won’t cheat on her!” I defended as I started bursting into tears. “That llama! How can she not trust me?! *sobs*”

“You better explain yourself, dear. Amber really thought you’re cheating.”

 “O-ottoke? Where should we go? To Sung Jin? To the airport? Just bring me to where she is!” I burst out into tears at the thought of Amber leaving again. You can’t leave me again, you idiot!

“We don’t know exactly where she is, Krys. But the airport is the best place that we should go.”

Vic unnie drove like a racer and we reached the airport in ten minutes. We decided to separate ways and searched for the llama all throughout but Amber was nowhere to be found. It was too late. The plane bounded for China just left. And I called her name for the last time. “AMBEEEEEEER!”

“Are you sure you’re going with me?” Amber asked the girl with long jet black hair sitting beside her on the plane.

The girl looked at her with puffy eyes and nodded in return.
