old house, ice cream and Shin Changmin

“Wait!” Changmin panted as he tried to keep close to the ever energetic Mi Young.

It was her day off and she was excited to start her promise to her Omma. But before she left the house,  she made sure that all her work was done to perfection. She was skipping their way to some village and Changmin, who agreed to come with her but can't keep up with her pace.

“What? Come on Changmin-sshi. We need to hurry I need to see that address.” She yelled happily.

She was talking about the address written on her Omma’s old letters She was planning to deliver them to someone and she couldn’t help but feel excited because at last, she will be able to fulfill the promise that was left unfulfilled.

“Where are we going?” He was still catching his breath but there was no way Mi Young will stop walking. She was close to the place and no one will stop her, not even her crush.

“I need to go to the address Omma gave to me.”

“Are we close to it?”

“Ah huh.” She nodded. “We’re actually here.” She said as she looked at an old mansion that was abandoned.

“Here?” He frowned. The place was very familiar and he can’t be wrong but he waited for Mi Young’s reaction.

“Let’s come inside.” She took his hand and pulled him in but the gate was locked and by the looks of the house, Changmin’s thought were right. It was abandoned and no one was living in it.

“Yah.” Changmin whispered. He didn't want to let the hope in the girl’s eyes drop down. She had been talking about that house for quiet some time and she was really happy when Jae decided to give her a day off.

“Why?” she looked at him puzzled.

“It’s abandoned.”

“Abadoned?”

“No one is living there for a long time.”

“Are…are you sure?” she frowned and Changmin swore he saw a sparkle of tear at the corner of her eyes but she was strong enough to stop it from falling.

“Yah.” Changmin nudged her side as she just kept on playing with her ice cream.

They were at a ice cream parlor and sitting in front of each other.

She was sulking because the house that supposed to be the start of her mission became the end of it. She didn’t know where to start anymore. She held on the letters on her lap under the table and fought her tears. She was obviously devastated and seeing her in that situation made Changmin feel sad.  He decided to invite her for some cold treat when he saw her expression regarding the abandoned house.

“It’s melting already. Eat it.” He said. “Don't worry. I will help you fulfill your promise to your Omma.” Changmin wasn’t even sure it those were the right words to say but he said it anyway and he meant it.

She ate the melted ice cream with a pouted face. Changmin was clueless about that mission. It meant everything to her and finding that house empty was really a big disappointment. Convincing Jaejoong to give her a day off was a huge hurdle but she just blew the time away.

“Why don't you tell me about that promise?” He asked.

Mi Young simply shook her head and continued on playing her ice cream. “Not now.”

He understood and ate.

“Master Jaejoong will never give me another Day off. I just wasted the precious time!” she whined.

“Bwoh?” Changmin’s left eye brow rose instantly with her words. “Time wasted?” he hissed. “Yah. You’re with me you consider this as a waste of time?”

“Huh?” she turned red after realizing what she said, somehow, being with Changmin made her feel okay. She was with Changmin and he was right, it wasn’t a wasted time after all.

“Sorry.” She smiled. “It’s just that…”

Changmin didn’t let her continue. “…it’s just that you are so focused on that mission that’s why you forgot that I’m still here with you.” He purposely added a little sadness in his voice with a touch of puff eyes that would make any girl scream awww… and that included our Mi Young.

“Ahm….” She cleared . She was blushing so hard but Changmin was so engrossed with his ice cream that he barely noticed her. “I’m sure that handsome-face-human-eating-monster will not give me another off.” She innocently said making Changmin choked.

“Handsome –face- monster?” he said after drinking some water.

“Handsome-face-human-eating-monster.” She corrected herself seriously.

“Are we talking about Jaejoong hyung?”

“Who else?”  She smirked. She finally had the chance to burst what was inside her mind about the cruelty of her monster. She was expecting a harsh reaction from Changmin since Jaejoong was his hyung. Their relationship was more than a brother and it was but natural to defend him but instead, a chuckling Changmin faced her.

“A Handsome-face-human-eating-monster.” He slowly said and tried digesting the words without laughing.

“Exactly!” she nodded with satisfaction. She was somehow proud with the name she made for his master. “It suits him well.”

“It sounds like a compliment.” He smiled, making her melt once more.

“Seriously?” she pouted.

“Yeah. But don't try saying that to him or else he will definitely turn into one. He’s kind and understanding, maybe he treat you harshly because of what Naomi Unnie did to him.”  He defended him but not in the way she imagined it to be.

“No.” she nodded her head, unconvinced with what he said. “He’s like that the moment I was hired.”

Changmin just looked down and chuckled. Jaejoong’s behavior wasn’t new to him and to everyone else. It was the same attitude he showed when Rei first came but his heart softened in no time.

“Hyung is getting old.” He smiled.

“Don't tell me he’s having PMS.” She fed herself with the melted I cream and frowned. It didn’t taste good since it turned into liquid.

“I don't know what PMS means but let me order you another ice cream.” He said and called the waiter.

“Wait. Changmin-sshi…” she tried to stop him but it was too late.

“It’s okay we will eat everything in this shop and it’s my treat.”

“Thanks.” She smiled and waited the ice cream. “I will cook for you again.”

“Really?” he looked at her with so much interest and Mi Young’s heart was racing.

“Yah… but don't tell Master that I’m stealing all his food in his ref. He once accused me of something i never did and I don't know how to defend myself if he caught me on this one.”

“Don't worry. Just tell him that you cook for me.”

“Yah right.” She blew her nags and pouted.

“Ah.” Changmin smiled widely. “You are so cute!” he reached for her cheeks and pinched it softly which made her blush madly and that time, Changmin noticed it.

He looked down and continued eating like nothing happened and there was silence for a while. They kept eating their ice cream without making any sound.

Both of them love food and food was their connection. Changmin was the hungry giant and Mi young was the love sick cook. They instantly got together like long lost siblings. Changmin was enjoying her company and so did Mi Young.

“Let’s go somewhere else.” Changmin said afterwards.

Mi Young just nodded and soon, their feet carried them into a nearby park and since it was weekdays, very few people were in it.

“You have to endure it Mi Young, You’ll only have to work for hyung for two months and after that everything will be okay.”

“Yah… I will be coming back to Jeju that time since Ms. Naomi is going to stay away for so long.” She sadly said while walking to the nearest swing.

“Why don't you work for us?” Changmin said out of nowhere and Mi Young’s head rose up.

“Seriously?” she looked at him and hoping for a very positive answer.

“I would love to. Especially with Yunho Hyung’s condition, taking care of him is not an easy job and I would love to have some help.” He truthfully said.

Since Yunho’s accident, things were hard for Changmin his hyung refused to return to his hometown to be taken care of by his family and even if he fail to remember most of his past including Jaemi, he was still running after her like crazy. And Changmin was left to be by his side whenever he needed him.

“Would you think Master Jaejoong will allow me to work in your house? He doesn’t even want to look at my face if he got a choice.” Her hopes went down the drain but Changmin was determined to lift her spirits up.

“I will get you from him.” He said and looked into her eyes.

Mi Young looked back and saw nothing but pure sincerity. She felt like a damsel in distress in need of a prince charming to save her from a human-eating-monster. He r eyes were twinkling and Changmin couldn’t help but laugh at her funny reaction. She was lost into space. She was looking at him but her mind was somewhere in between Jupiter and Saturn.

“Yah… Mi Young.” Changmin leaned closer to her face but still, she was lost in space. “Mi Young!” he poked her nose and that made her jumped back.

“Yah!” she yelled at him with the sudden shock. “Why did you do that?!”

“You were lost and I cant take you back to earth.”

“Ah… I’m just thinking of someone.” She said absentmindedly.

“Who me?” he asked innocently but the effect on her was tremendous. She turned her back so Changmin will not see her tomato flushed face. She was so embarrassed but he was right, it was a joke but he got it. The girl from Jeju was actually thinking about him.

‘Oh dear….’ She mumbled in between her breath. ‘I’m falling for this guy… help.’

“Are you saying something?” he asked.

And of course, she denied it. “Ah… nothing. Will you help me next time?” she said with the best puffy eyes she could possibly give, hoping Changmin will fall for her Jeju beauty. She secretly praise herself for learning how to flirt and promise herself that she will only do it with Changmin because she herself found it embarrassing.

“Of course, I promise you that a while ago right?” he smiled and continued to walk, leaving her in dreamland. “Cute.” He whispered.

“Yah!” Jaejoong’s voice roared around the house. He was at the staircase and yelling at Mi Young whose half body was still outside the door. “What took you so long?!”

He was definitely at rage and Mi Young prepared herself for a round of non stop nagging. She sometimes thinks that Jaejoong was an old sad lady that nobody loves during his past life. He wasn’t just bossy and cruel, he also loved his voice to be heard around the house and the more she hears it, the more she was getting tired of it. She sometimes wondered why her Unnie loves DBSK so much. Well, Changmin was great but her master really made her think twice about loving the famous boy band that everybody loves. No wonder she wasn’t thrilled when she found out that Jaejoong was one of them. In fact, she will never get thrilled about it. Slowly, her patience was lowering down and she didn’t know when she will erupt.

“Master… I… I…” she stuttered once again for countless of times.

“Hyung! She’s with me!” Suddenly, Changmin appeared behind her and her eyes widened like she just saw a ghost.

“You’re with her?” Jaejoong’s eye brows boxed like hell and it made the girl nervous.

“I thought you went home already?” she whispered with gritted teeth.

“I’m hungry so I decided to go back for some free dinner.” He whispered back with a smile and for the first time, she wanted to smack Changmin’s head.

“I’m right.” Jaejoong smirked as he slowly walked down the stairs with arms crossed on his chest. “You’re not just a thief but also a liar.”

“Ya-“  She wanted to yelled at him but Changmin stopped her.

“You said you wanted to deliver something but you just went out on a date wit our maknae.”

“That’s not true!” she protested.

“Yah!” Changmin turned to face her. “We dated!”

“What?” she couldn’t believe it. Changmin pulled her down and she was trapped.

“We ate ice cream right? That’s considered as a date.”

“Yah right.” She hissed and made a mental note to cook for Changmin ever again.

“Liar.” Jaejoong chuckled.

She just stood there and looked down. That day was too depressing for her already. Without Changmin, she could’ve gone down to the drain but he eventually left her hanging in front of a monster.

“What are you waiting for?” Jae yelled once again, making her jump. “Cook! I haven’t eaten dinner yet.”

She cleared her ears with what he said. HE wanted her to cook. And base on what she clearly remembered, he told him not to cook for him ever again and that what she voiced out.

“But you said…” and Jaejoong didn’t make her finish her sentence.

“Changmin will eat here so you can cook. You won’t put any poison in his food so it’s okay to allow you to cook. I will make him taste what you cook first.” He said mockingly.

“Bu--!” she wanted to protest once again but she told her self to clam down and took a very deep breath and slowly walked her way to the kitchen silently cursing her master.

“Hyung. You don't need to be so harsh on her.” Changmin said as they sat down on the couch to watch TV as Mi Young cooked in the kitchen.

“Oh. SO you’re telling me to be nice to your girlfriend.”

“She’s not my girlfriend.” He said calmly.

“Come on Min.” he tapped his shoulder. “You don't need to hide it from me.”

“But I’m not hiding anything. I just helped her to return the favor because she always cooks for me.”

“What? She cooks for you?” Jae frowned.

“Yah and we went to deliver some letters to someone.”

Jae was so engrossed with the idea that Mi Young was cooking for Changmin without him knowing that he almost didn’t hear Changmin’s last words. But they sure got his attention.

“Someone from your old house.” He said looking at his hyung seriously.
