Chapter nineteen: Clueless

Before- three years ago _____________________________________________________________________________

“I’m so scared, no, I’m really scared. Ka Eun… Ka Eun…” He whimpers during night time. Somehow, I want to slap him across the face because he’s being really annoying right now.

“What’s wrong?”

“I had that dream again.”

“What dream was it?”

“It’s always that same person talking to me, I don’t even know why.”

“Jaejoon gets scared too? I never knew any of this, I’m so surprised.” I walk over to the couch he lay at and patted his arm, “It’s okay, it’s far from reality, everything is just a dream, dreams aren’t meant to be in the real world, you wake up and it’s gone.”

“Ka Eun, but… it seems as though the dream is trying to tell me something.”

“It’s not telling you anything, dreams are messed up and don’t make sense.”

“But…”

“Since when have dreams made sense? Once I dreamt about sleeping in my own room, then I randomly woke up in a jungle and the baboons started chasing me and then a gorilla wanted to eat me.” He weakly chuckles, placing his hand on top of mine.

“I… I know it’s weird for me to act so gentle isn’t it? But please, if I have a nightmare can you please comfort me?” He asks, using his manners, surprising me once and again.I kneel down beside him, and his hair like a puppy. “Maybe I’ll be nice to you today as well Jaejoon.”

“I can’t sleep.” He states. When he’s like this, I feel a slight fear inside me. Is this even Jaejoon? Seriously, I’m so scared. Why is he so weak? Is he pretending? “You’re pretending right?”

“I’m not.” I look at his eyes, illuminating under the moonlight, seeing fear inside them. He’s like a big baby isn’t he? “Comfort me to sleep Ka Eunnie.” He suggests. I guess he’s still the same Jaejoon, so demanding in every way.

“Well… how about I tell you a bed time story?”

“Okay then.”

“Once… there was a stupid boy who was afraid of sleeping. He said that if he sleeps, he may get nightmares and he’ll be scared… he’d always sleep in his mummy’s room and she too, would tell him stories until he….” Jaejoon flutters his eyes shut and rests his head on one my hands. I continue to his hair and his smooth, milky cheeks. Gosh Jaejoon, making me act like your mummy now?

Now- three years later _____________________________________________________________________________

“Eh Jaejoong-ah, how come there’s only classes in the afternoon?”

“Isn’t that a good thing? We don’t have to go to school until one in the afternoon, so I guess you can use this time to rest well. Oh and there’s no classes tomorrow which is good.”

“Says the person who woke up just as early as I did, it’s not like you to spring out of bed at eight”

“Hah, I don’t enjoy sleeping for too long if it wasn’t a nice sleep.”

“So what do you mean by that?”

“It doesn’t matter does it? You don’t have to know anything about me.”

“Fine.” I say, walking off towards the kitchen. Should I try cooking breakfast again? I promise I’ll be careful and not get weirdo Myungsoo to help me. I’ll get one of the chef’s assistants to help me. Jaejoong steps in and eyes me suspiciously. “What are you planning on doing?”

“You don’t have to know anything about me.” I reply, mocking him. “I already know though, you’re planning to up the kitchen again and kill your own hand again.”

“That was only an accident.”

“I don’t trust you in the kitchen. Get out.”

“Who are you?” I sternly ask. He lets out a sigh and pushes me out of the kitchen, and seats me on the dining table just in front. “I’ll make breakfast.” I can’t believe those words. He says he’s only going to make breakfast for his wife, who obviously isn’t me. Why does he seem so moody and emotional today? I can’t help but feel a little worried for him inside. I get up and decide to walk towards him, I want to ask him what’s wrong because it’s scaring me.

He widens his eyes and stares at me furiously. “Sit down, don’t you dare come near me.”

I nod, and obediently sit back down. Seriously, did something bad happen to him? He’s so… he’s so strange today. I mean I know when he has those days where his personality changes dramatically but I didn’t expect him to be so different like he is today. I rest my chin on the table, waiting for the food. I’m so hungry.
